Dear mummies/mummies to be,

I need some advise! Done my anormly scan today with dr sim at (TMC) and everything was fine with my baby girl except for a cyst on her brain. Gynae dr sim referred me to a specialist to further examine my fetus cyst tomorrow.

does any of you entercountered the same situation as me ???
Both me and my husband are totally break down by the news.
I really pray hard that my little one will be safe and i am unsure will the cyst affect fetus brain development. I hope dear mummies that have gone through the same thing give us some good advise. Thank you

Hi

My girl had cyst during her 20 week scan too . Hers is bilateral choroid plexus cyst( cpc). In fact she had 1 on each side. I was worried sick too. My gynae told me it will disappear towards the 3rd trimester. Indeed it shrank and went off ard week 28.
I went to seek second opinion with Dr Tc Chang from tmc to have a peace of mind. He assured me that the cyst is harmless most of the time

Hi dear mummy,

Thanks for your reply. I was like so down and couldn't rest well for the whole night thinking that what will be happen to my little girl as my gynae had scheduled me a specialist to do the scanning again today.

I am not yet a mother but I do feel the worried and care for my unborn child so much! I am so worried if this issue will affect her development. I really hope the scan results will be good today and really really hope the cyst is nothing serious for my little girl.

Hi.. i have the same in my 2nd pregnancy, and my girl is now 6 yrs old, healthy and happy.

Am currently expecting #3, and also have the CPC on the 20 weeks scan. Both are 3-5cm. I wasn't worried because of my past experience and also because i did harmony test on the first trimester which showed the low risk for down syndrome. My gynae assured me that there is no issue and he encountered this CPC in 1 out of 10 pregnancy, he said quite common.

In fact, my scan on the 28th week showed that both the cyst in the baby's brain have disappeared.

Enjoyed your pregnancy. Don't worry too much.

Hi, I'm currently expecting my #2, and my gynae also found a CPC during the week 20 detailed scan. However, she said that she wasn't too concern as I did the Verifi test earlier which showed low risk for Chromosome abnormalities. I just did another scan at week 24, and the cyst had disappeared. Usually doctors won't be too concerned if CPC is the only marker that shows up.

I know it's hard not to worry, but do have faith in yourself and the lil one, and keep praying! Jiayou mummy, it'll be alright. :)

Hi mommy,

Yes I did see specialist again at 28 weeks and doctor mentioned the cpc on my baby girl brain has disappeared. Everything is fine during detail scan. If they found any abnormalities of your Little one they will inform you for further testing so not to worry if you have done down syndrome test at 20 weeks. If the results of having a down syndrome baby are low, your baby should be fine. Cpc are somehow link to trisomy 18. A condition whereby your baby had extra chomosome and specialist usually do very detail scan because the down syndrome trisomy 18 symptoms for unborn child usually lots of defects. If your scan turns out to be everything normal just with one part of his/her body with cpc, then you have nothing to worry. It will dissappeared when your baby grows bigger so put yourself at ease. I am also worried a lot and I just break down in front of my gynae when she said i have to see a specialist but without giving me a direct answer when i ask her issit going to be serious. Only after detail scan youe gynae will then explain to you whether your baby will be fine.

I also have this problem. Discovered at detail scan too. My gynae say is common. N review is after delivery. There is not another detail scan done. I can't help worrying

Next routine scan, can request for gynae to scan to see if cpc reduced or disappeared. I remember my gynae scanned for it during the normal routine check up

Me too....can't help worrying though my gynae said is common n 99% percent of babies will have CPC.
