I am rather confused, are we allowed to sell 2nd stuffs eg: clothes that are outgrown or things we do not want it anymore?
Maybe at the front of the forum, u shd put down some guidelines for us to follow.. Thanks
 
Actually, JJJ and she_she, what we can do on the forum is in the Terms of Use when you register for an account in the forum. Click on Register, and the link is there in the "Terms".

But to answer JJJ's query, we can sell our 2nd hand stuff, and even do bulk purchases, provided that we are doing it privately, and not making any monetary gain out of it, like commissions, or private biz. Problem is that there are some pple out there promo their own biz or selling their biz products, under the guise of bulk purchases. Hence the bad name for bulk purchases.

I see that some mommies are doing some rental of their freezer/toys/etc...does this constitute as pte biz (as this may be different from selling your used stuff or BN stuff at a loss)?

kinda hard to tell at times where the line is drawn....i know there are stated terms on what u can or cannot do, but frankly it's mostly jargon to me, and different people can interpret the same terms differently...it may be easier to put out examplse (real life scenarios which we have so many here) and then say whether that is acceptable or not....

"You again" - why log in as a guest and not your true id? If you didn't like that email - my primary aim was to ensure you make the right decision when it comes to deciding on an insurance prdt, why didn't you just delete it or reply 'no'? Did you receive any more emails to 'chase' you for an answer? My purpose of PM you was so this is not seen as soliciting publicly but really to find out if you really need help/advice. Plus to consider aspects others than price alone. Otherwise, I could just hv posted this as a response to the thread.

I think some of the mummies in this forum needs to stop being so narrow minded and pass judgement readily on others. Do give benefit of doubt and focus on something more constructive than playing vigilante to feed own self-righteousness.
 
Chin Leng, lest my acct get revoked without me having my say on the matter, I'd request that you consider whether or not my posts have their merits in bringing to attention some of the considerations parents need to make before they commit to any insurance policies. I have also taken great care not to 'solicit' biz based on what I understand, using this forum as a platform.

Rather I'd sent PRIVATE msg to those members who have posted messages that indicated they might benefit by discussing their needs with me. At no time at all were they under pressure to buy anything from me. If they do not respond, I am totally cool.

I do think some of the mummies here are over-zealous in helping to spot people who advertise their services which might turn out to be beneficial to the other mummies. I think some leeway should be given, depending on the merits of each case. I look fwd to your experience and tact in handling this 'complaint'.

Finally, let me say I have been enjoying the many postings which have been tremendous help to me as a first-time parent. I have endeavoured to participate beyond just helping with my understanding of the industry and in other ways as I truly believe in the benefits of open, matured discussions. Thks.
 
Chin Leng, i agree with wat 'You again' is doing...and i think she did it right. If there there will be many cases of ppl soliciting biz by PMing the forum user here. Me too hv same experience being spammed by Liew.

In my opinion, and as wat u mention earlier even soliciting business via PM is not allowed right? Anyway we all do agree that no soliciting of business is allowed. What is the diffference betw someone who solicite business openly or by PMing? Wat more he/she din ask him for email and yet he jus send.. it is still openly soliciting business by spaming ppl's PM which i dun think is right.

Pls do something abt it esp when ppl like him can be annoying at times when help is offered when we dun ask for and it jus deem that he is getting clients here.

I hope u can do something to control this and make this a really homely and nice place for mummies to share tips and not for insurance agent to intrude in getting clients.
 
I do not recall sending you any emails before, Fedup. I'd only send emails SELECTIVELY to those who have indicated that they might require help. And I am pretty sure it did not exceed 10 to-date.
Sorry to have to say this, but I have long noticed this thread started (?) and actively contributed by you. I do not necessarily think you are doing a great service for everyone here though you might like to think so. I think you should really get a life and let the moderators moderate only when people become overzealous in pushing their agenda etc. Oops, does being a vigilante in this forum count? These can become annoying too.

I would like to state clearly that we appreciate efforts by members of the forum who informed us of users who try to benefit through the forum without advertising through the proper channel.

Regardless whether the user aggressively follow-up and solicit for business, by the act of providing "advices", the user would be getting potential clients and the user would be benefitting financially already. Once a user would be able to benefit financially through the forum, without prior approval, it is not allowed. The user would have been using our resources (like bandwidth and traffic) for his/her own financial gains.

It is based on this principle that we do not allow service providers or business owners to solicit for prospects in the forum. Similarly, sening PMs through our system for this purpose will not be allowed.

If any user would like to gain financially through the forum, we would greatly appreciate if the user would sign-up as an advertiser instead.

It appears that many mommies just don't see the point of preventing users of this forum from doing their biz. They just see that "Hey, great deal! Good prices! Must buy!", regardless of whether the seller is promoting own biz or not.

Hey, I love a good deal as much as any other person, esp when it comes to making me look good, or is for my child, but perhaps it's 'cos I know a little of this industry, and I know how hard and costly it can be to maintain a 'simple' thing like a forum, so yep, I'm one of those who don't like to participate in a deal that looks suspicious to me.

Am I being self-righteous? I don't think so. I'm just not letting someone get away with being a 'cheapskate', or trying to get more profit from 'free' self-advertisement.

There's this great thread with an article that helps to explain the situation, and why promoting own biz is frowned upon. Unfortunately, not many bothered to read this thread! So I now attach the link here in hopes that it promotes greater understanding as well.

So, Liew, your intentions were intended to be good, but I daresay you also stood to gain quite a bit from it, and hey! 'free' advertising too! No need to pay pple to send out leaflets, or put up banners, what a savings of money, while using other pple's resources! Did you see it that way?
 
There's been a lot of questions about what can be and cannot be done/sold in the Mktplace.

I just like to offer a very simplistic view of this forum, which is also the one I personally take when using this forum

I'm sure many (if not most, or even all!) of us have bought parenting magazines from the newsstand, and some mags have a section like Mktplace, where pple post their ads on sales of secondhand stuff, or about wanting to meet other mommies. I view SingaporeMotherhood forum as such.

Pple who wish to sell 2nd hand stuff in such magazines usually have to submit details like contact, person's REAL name, addy, and such, and certainly you don't see pple promoting their own biz in the Mktplace section in these mags. Rather, they have to pay thru their noses for full/half/quarter/column ads, with colour, text, etc...

Certainly, I doubt many biz even DARE to dream of trying to pull a fast one with these magazine companies, knowing that if legal action should be taken, they will lose a lot of money, unless they win the legal case!

So doesn't this forum perform functions that a parenting mag does? Even offering more, like instant response from mommies, a specific topic that you can post on (rather than hoping that the mag carries such an article), and you get to save a lot of money with the great deals you can get.

But then, if this forum is not earning anything from its users thru subscription fees, who's paying for this forum then? Even if Chin Leng runs this forum from his home (!), his electrical bills alone must be sky high! Not to mention the ISP, the time put in, labour costs, needing to solicit for pple to advertise to get revenue for the forum, etc...just like any other online venture.

So using the analogy of a parenting mag, I just follow the principle that if it's not done in a mag, then it shouldn't be done on a free forum. Therefore, pple shouldn't use this forum to advertise for their own biz/profit without paying for the advertising.

Pple who've been accused have slammed the 'whistle blowers' and accused them of kpo-ing, but it IS our business! We're all using this forum, for free!! Imagine if we all had to pay subscription fees comparable to magazine rates, and the 100's, if not 1000's, of users in this forum! Imagine that and realise how much this forum is NOT capitalising on! Rather it operates like Google, take money from advertisers instead. And do you know how much Google is making!?!?!?!?

Like I said, this is a simplistic view, and I have made many generalisations and assumptions. But I'm just hoping that if more pple share this view, then pple will realise what the Mktplace is for - for mommies who just wish to get back some money for their unused stuffs - definitely not for pple to solicit for their own biz/profit for free!

Will comply since this is your forum and these are your rules. Would appreciate if you can remove the post by "You Again" which forwarded my email bearing my id & name. Indirectly and unwittingly, she's soliciting biz on my behalf.

For the record, I have not benefitted financially at all, as the few whom I contacted chose not to reply, which is totally cool. However, I still hope my primary objective of consumer awareness & education is met. Lovebb is right on one thing though, I am good and I do not need to depend on 'soliciting' biz here to survive. Therefore, I am sorry my good intentions are either misunderstood or exploited.

I hope too that the rules apply equally, whether the person has intrinsic interest of running biz or not e.g. mothers who recommend their contacts who offers 'free' advice. We can never be sure of the relationships though she has expressed she has no stake in his biz.

As a constructive suggestion, perhaps you will consider a section that allows free play by all -
members can choose to go to that section if they need explicit advice on services rendered e.g. baby massage. As a parent, I will consider that very useful advertisement/contact info.

Motherhood forum only welcome mothers?? I do not see that exclusivity reflected anywhere. I am first and foremost a Parent & like many others, I benefit from some of the discussions here. I've already explained my primary motivation earlier - not nec to reiterate.

If you wish to reply, expect my rebuttal to be a little delayed. Most of us have to work to support the family and definitely do not have the same amt of free time to sit around and decide for others (whether they asked for it in the 1st place or not) what's right & what's not.

Chin Leng, Would there be any way to bar troublemakers here and make everyone unhappy. I really wonder if edliew is a parent or he jus feel he is too free to make ppl uphappy here and there. Perhaps that goes to show how free he is... and tat perhaps explain why he nds free advertisement here.

Abt his email i dun think ChinLeng shld remove but rather perhaps jus erase or edit his email away and tat would act as a deterence for other ppl who want to get themselves advertise free too and of cos for those mum who got his email to know wat kind of person he truly is and whether you really want such person to handle yr insurance or financial matters.

We're the mummies of Any mtb/mum staying at Woodlands thread. Would like to bring to ur attention to a particular person using the nick Arielene N Ling and also lovebb at the same time. She claims tat the nick is used by 3 different person which causes our confusion. Therefore in the thread u will be able to see some queries to her. We are just clarifying things with her and nothing person.
