I would like to share my experience with this bad confinement nanny. I only had her for 8 days but these 8 days were HELL.
That is because she is only interesting in cooking but cannot take care of babies at all.
When she first came, she suggested a number of traditional remedies from pearl powder to womb shrinkers to drinking water (this was first 5 days of birth, mind you) to funny concoctions to rid rashes and we have to stave off all these suggestions.
Then the real nightmare began; slowly but surely, piling up each day were her transgressions:
1. It was 1 am. My baby was crying. She told my baby: I HATE this! Don't you know I hate seeing babies with their eyes open at night! i HATE that the most (in mandarin)
2. When baby cried throughout the night, she would not pick baby up and just bend over n glare at the baby and say: Cry for what? Cry Cry Cry.. nobody wakes up at this time of the night ok!
When that didnt work, she just stopped talking altogether and stared at my baby like a gangster ( I am not exaggerating, I was in the same bed as baby and catching a glimpse of her face as I turned gave me a rude shock)
Then everyday she would nag at me to tell the baby that she should be a good baby and learn to sleep at night and be awake in the day.
3. My milk took some time to come in and at the beginning i had to latch v frequently (almost every hour) throughout the night to feed baby and build up my milk supply. She would continue sleeping away whilst I picked up my baby to breastfeed. When baby cried, she would complain that i had no milk and that I should feed formula. I finally gave in and guess what, baby STILL cried for another 3 hours! She even went round complaining to my whole family that I was starving my baby and kept wanting to give lots of formula so that baby would sleep for a long time and she could rest.
3. She was always on her phone and refused to nap when baby napped. Then she would complain non stop that this baby was one of THE most difficult ones she had EVER come across keep crying never sleeping (and of course link this to the breastfeeding again). She even said that at this rate my baby's voice would be permanently affected and that she was horrible to kick as she cried and throw tantrums (hello, babies cry thats what they do. Kicking legs is a good sign coz it shows motility in their limbds is developing DUH) and cited how her friends kid had her voice affected even though she was already 4 years old. NO mummy wants to see their child like that so I panicked n picked my baby up EVERY time she cried.. but of course sometimes she kept on crying.
4. Changing diapers - my baby always cried when she touched her to change diapers (FYI this never happened with my 2nd confiment nanny from PEM) and she would say: Aiyo! you are so weird! can tahan your own shit but cant stand me changing your diaper?? shit already must change mah. cry so loud for what! I tried to explain to her that shit is body temperature but wet wipes/water is cold so maybe that was why baby cried but apparently she refused to believe me. How insulting to my poor baby!
5. The last straw came when I was pumping my breastmilk. SHe came within 5 cm to my body and said: OMG ur uterus is still SO BIG! Your stretch marks are horrible and will never go away! And are you sure u have milk?? This pissed me off and I stopped pumping after 5 mins. Upong seeing the 10 ml that I had pumped out she sneered at me at said: what? so little? u shld pump longer! ppl pump longer! (Mind you, before i started pumping I had asked her for her advice on how long I should be pumping for and she said not too long because you would hurt urself if you try too hard) WTH man. bitch. Lack of respect for personal space was one thing, but derogatory comments were another. I certainly didnt need to hear all those.
Oh. and her hands STINK BIG TIME. That is how you will recognise her the moment you meet her. Each time she came to take baby from me I had to turn my face away coz the stench was SO BAD I NEARLY PUKED.
FINALLY! I said she can cook? After she left we raided the fridge and realised that her dishes only tasted nice because of this super G powder from Taiwan that was FAKE MSG (Essentially it tasted like MSG but was supposedly healthier). My helpers verified that she was packing heaps of it into every single dish she made. Nuff' said.
Seriously, how do people like this ever become nannies?!!
