Huingee,
then u must stay somewhere near me.
happy.gif
cos West View is only 1 block away from me, and GRPS is within 1km and Beacon is more than 1km.

Agreed a lot depends on principal. Always thot MGS & SCGS are v relaxed on homework/tests but turned out this yr MGS gave more homework/tests 'coz new principal who's v academic focused so more work for students. Branded sch for sure are more holistic approach - kids enjoy their time in sch v much. My girl looks forward to sch everyday & gets upset during sch hols.. I believe in P1 shld let the kids adapt & love the new sch instead of loading with excessive homework.

Msmummy ~ The sch may keep a photocopy of your tenancy agreement so they will know how long your lease is. Usually, the sch won't bother how long you'll be staying nearby unless someone complains. That's why play safe rent 2 yrs 'coz parents usually ask abt how you get the kids into the sch in P1 only. There're now too many condo within 1km of MGS liao.. that's why so competitive. You may have to standby your 2nd option - RGPS or SCGS - usually no ballot for 1km.

Hi CP,
I understand SCGS has weekly tests to keep the girls on their toes. As for MGS having more homework/tests, I'm surprised to hear that...bcos MGS has always taken a relaxed approach.

Hi Mummies,

Juz came back from balloting. We are lucky to get a seat in the school that we want. We are the last 3rd name to be called. Scary when u see the seat being reduced.

Good lucky to all the mummies that are going for phase 2c.

I think SCGS is more relaxed than MGS now.. They do conduct topical tests on surprise basis as they don't wish to stress the kids & parents unnecessarily so no notification made. Anyway, they don't form part of the year-end grades. It's just an indication on how well the kid understand the topic. If my girl doesn't do well in any topic, that means she needs to practice more in that topic lor.. no stress lah..

Janet,thanks mine is daughter

B2B3M4,your kid also at Nan Chiau?

Good luck to all mummies going for 2C registration.

Just came back from 2C registration.... wow... we got 212 at greenwood primary school while the vacancies for this year is 270. But they say it is not first come first serve basis. I overhear the principal telling a parent that historically they normally cut off at <1km>1km might not have a chance...

Liz See,
Yep, my dd will be attending Nan Chiau, we registered under phase 2b <1km, so need not ballot. However, i just realise i won;t be able to on leave on 22 Nov, so it will be hubby attending. Feeling a bit sad.

sigh... not good news from my end too.

I called up Greenridge pri to ask. 129 places and 131 applicants. 128 within 1km. Ballot confirm, unless I am the only soul who registers tomorrow.
sad.gif

Thanks Foreverfriends.

B2B3M4, dun't feel sad. Still has a few months down the road, maybe ur leave will approve lah.

Soyabean, it seem a few schools have alrady exceed the vacnacy on the first day liao. At least we are given a chance to ballot. Still got hope, no worry ok.

b2b3m4,
take mc on 22 Nov. :p

lizuan76,
thanks. we will still give it a shot. hope that most pple KC and went down today already.

hi oceans,
are you still going for Evergreen then? do you have a backup plan? all the best to you yeah?
happy.gif

i went down to reg today. already exceed number of places so the sch on the spot gave me the ballot notice. just hope that there will not be alot more regs today and tmr.

soyabeans,
good luck to you. I think still have chance as you are within 1 km for ballot.
Staying near the ntuc block, so pretty near you bah.

hi Serene,
My boy will be attending P1 at Innova next yr.
Seems like there will be balloting for phase 2C. Are you residing < 1km from Innova?

hi alpha mum,

im in 1km-2km.. hope i can hav chance.. =)
why u chose tat sch? is it v gd? actuali i registered him in w'lands pri, bt i withdraw him todae and change to innvoa.

u aso under phrase 2C ?

hi Serene,
My boy got in under ph 2B. We went to the Open Hse last mth. My hubby and boy like the nice and clean environment. And this sch operates single-session so will be more convenient for me to send/fetch if I enrol my younger child next time.

Why did you withdraw from Woodlands Pri?

Hi Soyabean
You called the school to ask? They will entertain? I just got to know from other forums one mummy says balloting required for under 1km in Greenwood. But I can't seemed to find the info anywhere. Ask her but no replies yet... thinking if I should go to the school to ask tomorrow. Then again, know liao also sian for whole of next week.

Hi Liz,
Sorry about it...have been 'talking' to many mummies in the forum...also a bit blur lah.

Mummies who will be going for balloting, all the best to you.

hi alpha,
i went to the open hse too. =) like the enivornment too and single session is gd, cos they will hav time to rest n revise in the noon. withdraw frm w'lands pri cos i don like their uniform n the feedback dont seems gd. u uder 2B, confirm hav place lol.

hi soyabean,
ballotin infor will be available on the MOE web these week.

soyabean,
have to evergreen cos nearer and easier...
sad.gif
Today, go 1 withdraw, bring the slot up by 88. But the number of child is 139.
sad.gif
Seemed like lots of children in Woodland.
sad.gif

Linda,
Which school u registered? For Evergreen, base on past infor, balloting is required within 1km.
sad.gif

Good luck to all.

Best of luck to all who need to ballot.

Ocean,
Ya, seems like there are many kids born in 2004 in Woodlands and the schools near the Admiralty mrt side all need balloting in Phase 2C.
Which sch did you register your girl?

Hi Linda,
MOE just updated their figures. For Greenwood there are 123 applicants for 119 places.

Hi Linda

You no need to go to the sch and check it out, juz ring them they will tell you how many of the applicant are within 1km.

2 of my friends ring up the school after 430pm, the incharge can tell the exact nos that need to ballot

Good luck to all

Hi Linda,
Yes, I called the school and ask personally. In that way, I can find out about distance categories and even see if I can find out how many PRs.

Oceans,
Good luck to you! Will pray for you yeah??
happy.gif
And not only Woodlands... some other areas as well. did you see the applicants for West Grove?? You will be glad you dun live in Jurong West...

janet_lee88...
thanks!
happy.gif
btw are u the same janet_lee88 at ksp? :D

serene seah...
hope MOE can update the balloting info by tmr. anyway, i already got mine from the school. Cos they have exceeded when I went down to register, so they gave the ballot notification to me on the spot.

Hi soya,
Thanks... A mummy also called and was told that all the 123 applicants were under 1km...
sad.gif

Hi Alpha
Yeah... Was hoping that since it is only 4 more, the school may consider to accept all rather than go through balloting. I understand that some schools does that but must be accepted by MOE lah. Hope so, if not then really must go queue at another school on 18th like queueing for iphone4 like this....

Hi Oceans
I registered for Greenwood, last year no balloting for under 1km. Like you, I only have Greenwood and Admiralty within 1km. Glad i didnt registered at Admiralty. Almost twice the number of applicants versus vacancies!!
Pray hard!! I wish you good luck too.
Southview also have 2x the number of applicants... seemed like everywhere the same lor.

I thot such stress only happen to branded schools... sounds like it's even more stressful getting into a neighborhood school..

Best of luck to those going for balloting

Dear All,
Can u imagine.. most of the school conducting balloting falls within 1km. Seriously, i really dun noe why govt is not doing anything.

Wan pple to give birth, and yet, when i comes to P1 registeration, cant even go to the neighbourhood school within 1km....
sad.gif

Only tell pple have enough school, but never take into consideration on location and quality of schools.
sad.gif
Some school r just no good... haiz..

Look at the stat....Most r staying nearby....
http://www.moe.gov.sg/education/admissions/primary-one-registration/balloting/

oceans...
yes it looks scary. i did a count of 2009. total of 77 schools balloting and 46 schools balloting within 1km.

this yr, 80 schools and 57 schools within 1km.

wonder if this will make MOE change the registration phases and criteria.

Actually I think that also happens because parents want the "best" for their children. They do everything they can to enter their kids into the so-called better schools in earlier phases even if they are 200km away from that school. Hence people like us, who prefer for our kids to be in a nearby school, are thrown out of the way lor.

This is a vicious cycle.

yes, it's very stressful for all mums n kids. maybe they shld increase the numb of intake and change the distance guide. i'm only a little bit more further than 1km and have to fall in the 1km-2km range. haiz~

wish all mums and myself luck for this comin balloting! =)

Soyabean,
From the stats, it was really bad. No improvement at all. What good is to give Singaporean 2 chances when most who are balloting are Singaporean too.
sad.gif

Sorry, really felt quite upset that even a normal neighbourhood school, especially within woodland area, can be so competitive. Those that are "available" are usually those that are far far far from my place, eg. Masiling, etc.

Linda,
If you look within Woodland, the "popular" schools are mostly in between woodland and admiralty mrt....

I also tried to do PV when i noe abt this last yr aug/sep, but school rejectted me.
sad.gif

It is really sad... I really dun noe what happen to the education system that is causing all these woes to parents like us.
sad.gif

CP,
Yap, had the same impression as u too. But who noes.... neighbourhood is even worst...

serene seah (serene_mummy)
I think shld incr number of intake... else, things will be worst... hazi...

u choose innv pri right? Good luck.
happy.gif

ocean,
maybe we shld all bring tis up together and appeal to MOE?? haha..

yes, i chose innova, wish for the best on comin fri.. hope it's nt a bad fri the 13th for me.. LoL~

u chose evergreen yea? my fren's son is in tat sch. heard frm her tat it's quite a gd sch..

oceans...
u approached the school to do pv last yr aug/sep? it's late for registering for this yr leh... cos must sign up for pv before 1 july 2009 if registering this yr.

somemore if u think of it... if there are PRs applying for earlier phases like Phase 1 and 2A, they will get in without balloting also lor... so what is it about giving Singaporeans more chance? This only comes when there is balloting. Other than balloting, there is no differentiation.

Soyabean,
Yap, actually it never occurs to me that neighbourhood school can b as bad as the good school. I din noe until one of the nice mummies was asking if i do PV liao when she met me for collection.

So, i quickly check up with school and even tell them i can committ more than the required hrs. But, they reject me...
sad.gif

Then, i went grassroot, but similar, was told need to be a yr... plus no time to serve them, as i was also doing some other volunteering works, so... me ended in 2C.

I really wanna kick myself for being so ignornance!
sad.gif

Recently, alots of bad things happened to me, despite i already did my best...

I agree on the earlier phases thingy and the 2 chances issues. It does not resolve the problem. Rather, it is jus something, probably, to "pacify" us.
sad.gif

Serene,
In actual fact, my hubby was doing a quick check on the staying within 1m radius.

Apparently, even if i stay behind Admiralty MRT (school near Woodland Circle), I am still considered 1m within Admiratly Pri.

I was quite shock about this. If that being the case, then, lots of us are under 1m even if the school is just 1-2 block away.

Do u think appeal will help?

Btw, for those who already have ur school of choice, do start to teach them to buy things and toilet training.
