Anyone seeing Dr. THeresa Cheng

Goldwoof,

I've seen Theresa Cheng before. I don't like her. We almost abort our baby for nothing because of the negative comments she had given about my pregnancy. I'm glad I've seek a second opinion else I would have taken an innocent life.

However, I did come across some thread with reviews on her. 80 percent were negative but there were some positive ones also. Heard that she's a gynea who prefers her patients to go for C-sec and her rates were expensive compared to my current gynea. However, it's still one's preference in regards to gynea. For me, I believe I deserve to be treated more professionally and nicer as a patient.

Hello Kelcqi,
Thanks for your comment. We also are going for a 2nd opinion after consulting with her today... we've been going to her for about 3 weeks now (wkly), and the information she provides is too sketchy. and the vibe is too negative and yet not receiving enough information to even guage "is my pregnancy safe". I've been placed on home leave much more than anyone I know, and when we ask is it because the pregnancy's not safe, we didnt get a direct answer... I wasnt able to locate any threads on her so far.. I'm glad you did not abort your baby and had sought a 2nd opinion! When are you due? I'm definitely not one who supports C-section, so i'm also glad to read that remark from you.

We are considering between Dr. Paul Tseng / Dr. Joycelyn Wong for our 2nd opinion... Both came recommended via friends. Who are you seeing now? Are you comfy with your current obgyn?

Hi goldwoof,

After 1 visit to her, we decided not to see her anymore. Cos I don't want to spend money getting uncertain answers for my pregnancy. She's like after seeing us, just schedule the next appointment for the next week and just say we'll see how your pregnancy progress from there.

The next week I went to see another gynea recommeded by my colleagues. Alot of my colleague seeing him for pregnancy also. And the first thing when he did the ultrasound, he informed me that I had a cyst rite beside my sac, that is why I am experiencing the pain. And prescribe me hormone pills to stop the cramp. By the 10th week into my pregnancy, my cyst was gone. So glad I never spend on more visits to Dr Theresa Cheng. Her fist visit we paid 180 plus and no answers. I feel the money spent is not worthwhile.

You can view reviews on Dr Thersa Cheng from this thread. http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/messages/36738/64755.html?1205665267

BTW, my gynea is Dr Fong Yang. He's a fertility doc as well. He have 2 clinic. One in Tiong Bahru and the other one at Paragon. I'm very comfortable with him. He's those Ang Moh Pai gynea. And he also will encourage the hubby to participate in the pregnancy. Any pain I suffered, he'll turn to my hubby say help me massage at nite. Then he also tell my hubby now I pregnant, don't let me do any household chores. If hubby not nice to us, sometimes he'll tell the hubby off one. Haha... Under him, he made my walk in pregnancy a very big issue. Now at home being treated like Queen like that. Haha...

His rates for Paragon clinic is 70 for 1st consultation, 2nd visits onwards is 50. & 70-90 bucks for ultrsound. After adding medication, sometimes ranging from 170 to 220 per visits depending on the medication you are getting from him. But for 20 wks onwards, they'll offer package liao. At 600 bucks all the way to delivery. Can claim via medisafe for 450 on hospital bills. The hospital he deliver is TMC and MAH.

I consider his overall service very gd. Although some ppl think the price we paid before the package is still ex, but to us, he is professional enough and the price we are paying is perfectly worthwhile.

And one more thing we like about him is he thinks for our pockets. He is not one gynea who'll recommend any unnecessary tests. For example, I did not have to do any Oscar test cos he'll do all the measurements and told us we only need to do triple test.

I told him I did blood test before, he asked me for the results. Cos he said if my blood test results is very recent, I can also skip the blood test. But mine was done in 2005, so we decided to do the triple test.

And when I ask him do I need to do this and that test, he'll look at our age and scans to advise accordingly. Also one gynea who doesn't force sell any products to us. Those supplements like calcium, fish oil is we asked from him one. If we don't want, he never insist also.

When I asked him on Ante-natal class, he also said if I really want then he'll recommend. Else, don't need to spend extra money on all these. Very patient gynea.

I am thinking even after I give birth, I'll still go back to him for those gynea check-ups. And if have another bb in the future, I'll still go to him also.

my sis-in-law love her... but I think she is not too good.
as a professional, she has lots of myth... I'd never came across any gynae that advise the mummy not to do this do that not to eat this eat that.

Sue,

I also don't like her. Heard she's not those gynae that's pro-natural one. Any small thing, she advise C-sec. Maybe cos she gets to earn more by performing C-sec.

My current gynae is those very pro-natural one. Even my colleague wanna give up half way pushing, my gynae can use "Ji Jiang Fa" on her, telling her she'll have to spend more money, stay hospital longer, and experience pain longer to make her think twice on C-sec. In the end his method really works, got the 3.99kg baby out via natural birth.

Hi Sue,

Can share why your sis-in-law "love" her? Just curious as it seems that most comments about her is not so positive.

Hi....
I have been seeing Dr Cheng even before my preg....agree that sometimes her moods aren't good and she snaps at you.

I have 1 colleague who had 3 kids delivered by her and another who had her girl delivered by her too. They highly recommend her.

Since my last period have been 5-6 weeks, she commented that mine was too small at 4mm, which should be at 20mm....if counting date of conception, i guess mine would be around 3-4 weeks...She gave me a jab on my left and right butt, said to improve blood flow to my uterus.

She rather ex though....have not seen her for less than $200 and she does not accept credit cards or nets.

Experienced doctor...but works according to her moods.

I have seen her quite sometime back for a ovarian cysts, but my impression of her is very bad. She got mood swing and sometimes she talks very curtly and bluntly without considering people's feelings. I remembered her to be very costly, and in the end i swopped to Dr Ann Tan now based in Mount E who is so much better. I have heard alot of negative feedbacks bout Dr Theresa and i do not encourage anyone to see her unless you do not mind her mood swings.

hi mummies, I share your feedback completely. As a first time mum, having dr cheng as our obgyn was really not a helpful experience. Her explanations were unclear, and when we asked what we would expect going forwards, she actually told us not to count our eggs before they are hatched! I thought that was very uncalled for, ESP when we are 1st timers and merely want to receive info on what to expect and the milestones ahead. Time flies, we have just given birth to a beautiful baby girl and I switched to dr joycelyn wong of acj clinic at thomson med. She's great, and has given us a great pregnancy experience with her patience and clear and structured explanation.

oh and 1 more thing, we enquires abt the oscar test when we were at her clinic, and she actually answered us and said rather brusquely that she doesn't know what oscar test is. Really quite unbelievable!

Ya, it seems another one of my friend went to her to do pap smear. And cos its my friend's first time, she asked Dr Cheng if it is going to be painful. Dr Cheng just bluntly answer her if intercourse is not painful for her, then what is this. My friend was shocked she consider her very rude. My friend swears never to go back. But i really dunno why her business is still so good despite all this bad reviews.

Hi Rosabel,

Oh no, same experience as my friend. When my friend told me, i was shocked too. I wonder how is her business these days as it has been years since i last went to see her for my cyst. But i sure hope business is not as well as before then she will wake up.

Hi, when I was there for my pregnancy checkup which was about 9 months back, it's still rather crowded. I guess this tells us not every crowded place means good...

Hi all,

I am with Dr Cheng.
she has been very concern and cautious over my preg so far (I will deliver end this mth)
She gives straightforward and clear instructions with no Maybe/Perhaps etc.

I am very comfortable with her. And she often speak to us in a friendly manner - even chatting about shopping etc.

So do not judge her based on others experience..
Everyone has diff styles and perhaps her style doesnt match with urs.

Hi all,

Im see-ing Dr cheng as well.. im 31w preggie now.
She kept telling me not to eat so much when i only eat 2-3 meals a day (portion same as pre-pregnancy)

She also advised me not to drink milk..

Telling me that baby is fat and big.. head's big..might have to go for caesarean..

read so many bad reviews about her, im kinda lost now.. wonder should i believe her words and opt for caesarean when the time comes..

btw, im a single mom at age 18.. so anything related to the costs, means alot to me.

if my baby can come out by natural birth, i dont see a point for me to opt for caesarean..

Hi Rina, I had my first baby delivered by Dr Cheng this Feb by C-section.

Like u I was adamant not for C-section but Dr Cheng broached about C-section when my baby was about 8mths, saying his head and body size was too big but I kept quiet and did not respond and agree to C-section. She then said possible to try natural delivery...

In my 38th week, I had small contractions early in the morning at 9am and by 12.30pm, after calling her clinic I was asked to check in to hospital for check-up. There my cervix failed to open even for 0.5mm so after the nurses called Dr Cheng, she cited that I had low amniotic fluid during my 7th mth and asked to schedule a time for C-section. I agreed to book the Op Theatre and hoped that at a later time my cervix would open but alas, at 6pm, my cervix still refused to open, haiz...I was pushed into the op theatre at 7.45pm. I saw Dr Cheng before I ko-ed from the anasthesia, she said she will check why my cervix did not open, and till now she did not tell me why, I too, forgot to ask...

I had colleagues who delivered babies by Dr Cheng, they all been C-sectioned by her. Seems she is pro-C-sectioning...

Do consider if you want to continue to see her...

I am considering another doctor when I have my second one. :p

Anyone care to share the pre-delivery costs incurred? I have seen Dr Cheng before for other gynaecology issues and know that her charges arent low. Need a rough gauge on pre-delivery + delivery costs so that we can be better prepared, as I have heard that she doesnt offer maternity packages.

Pre-Delivery Charges (how often does a pregnant mum need to see gynae?) --

Hi people, i just started my package with Dr Cheng, paid $500 for it... not i sort of regret it... its too late.

she said i ate too much when i ate as per normal... and told me not to drink milk too... =\

I delievered my girl on Jan 2010 by Dr Cheng.
I delievered my girl natural w/o epidural.
Dr Cheng allowed me to try natural even thou my girl was still quite high up when i went into labour.
Do convey your message to her if you prefer natural birth, and she will advise. She has nvr advice me to go for C-section thou she did mention my girl is big. N she is...
Dr Cheng do have some mood swings, but for me I do not care abt her mood swings, I paid for her "service" and I'm glad that I'm in good hands. My stitches was well-done and my after delivery care was given by her visits every morning when I'm in the hospital.
So don't be too worry...

I think judging from 1st or one visits cannot put Dr cheng's expertise to doubt. She is a doctor afterall, and a gynae in long time practice, she may not be a warm glib tongue sales person coz she's a true expert. . She's very long time experience gynae, I gave birth to the most healthy baby which hardly falls sick, judging on my petite size weighing just 38kg during my pregnancy, her sharp prescription on medication and food advises has since enable me thru a smooth process & very fast delivery without any extensive labour pain, I gave birth within 2hrs on 31st Dec 1992. . My son is a healthy army boy now. . I continues seeing her after20yrs. .I'm a happy 41 yrs old working mum. .glad I have met a good woman's specialist. I respect her very much. .trust me she's a kind doctor. Goodluck.
