Latching on direct is always quicker and minimize steps.
Unless you are currently latching on direct and pumping to drain immed after to increase or establish supply, you may not needed to pump while you are out shopping.
Another factor to consider would be the length of your outing. Many of us used to pump immed before going out and we would pump again once reaching home three hours later.
