Hi, i will be a FTM soon and am thinking about hiring a maid. I was referred to a maid agent by my mum (her friend’s relative) and was shocked by the upfront fees that I have to pay for a new maid from Indonesia:
1) agency fee: $1.2k to $1.4k
2) other admin fees (bond, insurance, permit etc): $0.4k to $0.5k
3) maid loan: $2.5k to $3k (ie about 5 to 6 months of upfront maid salary)
Wanted to check with fellow mummies here if these are the usual ‘market’ rates? Im worried that by hiring a new maid, if she requests to return home within 8 months, I will have to repay all these costs again (plus her return airfare!). Also concerned about how refundable is the maid loan - has any maid agency tried to play punk?
Will transfer maids be cheaper in terms of upfront fees? Any mummies here able to share advice on hiring maids? Thank you!
