Dear all,

I never find it relevant to post anything here until today.

My wife miss her period and she got a pregnancy test done (Positive)

We immedietely went to see a gync to comfirm and get a ultrascan.

Upon scanning, doctor couldn't see anything and went ahead with vagina scan and still couldn't see anything.

She said it could be too early and arrange for another scan 2 weeks later.

After we exit she requested my wife to do another urine test which shows positive.

As my first, i could be just paranoid but i'm really indeed worried.

I scan through a few old threads but couldn't help but create one for my 'case' .

Is it normal not to be able to detect anything at all at 5 weeks?'

What are the symtoms i must take note of?

I only know my wife breast feel sore and stomach cramps at certain time, (now no longer i think)

And also have anyone been to thomsom medical clinic and seen by DR Wendy. any experience to share or gyn to recommend around Serangoon

At 5 weeks should be able to at least see the sac (6 weeks see heartbeat). Hmm, maybe your wife ovulated later so it's not 5 weeks yet? Sore breasts and cramps are indeed symptoms of pregnancy. If she experiences pain must go see gynae immediately to rule out ectopic pregnancy, which can be dangerous

Did doc ask u go tmc for detail scan? Wat abt blood test? My case is doc cant find the sac. Done the blood test n hcg is rising. Again bb sac cant be found. Doc straight away ask me go thomson for detail scan. Finally found the sac.

She did not comment much. She only try ultra cant find then do vagina test. Still can't test then she say too early.come 2 weeks later tgats all.

My gynae din say come again. He straight do blood test bcoz i told him i hv tested positive. Heard lots of ppl say morning urine are more accurate. I hv done my ultra scan at thomson medical. Dr refered me there.
Coz facilities there are better than clinic.
If u r really so impatient to wait maybe u can try other gynae frm tmc. Mine gynae is dr adrian woodworth. His clinic is in cck n sengkang.

maybe ur wife ovulated late.

when i was preg with my son, i went to see gynae at 4weeks plus. oso cant see anything. gynae say could be too early. ask me come back 2 week later.

and ya 2 weeks later can see plus the heartbeat oso , so dun tink too much... unless there is are symptom like bleeding and cramping

Good to go for a blood test to confirm the pregnancy. Once confirmed, good to go for detailed scan if nothing can be detected in the womb to rule out ectopic pregnancy.

You can consider dr Benjamin tham at Thomson medical centre. Lots of good comments about him.

Most gynae will wanna do scan asap to rule out etopic pregnancy. Tatz wat mine said.

Aw, my gynae is dr yvonne chan frm tmc. She took care of me for my 2 pregnancies.

I am now in my 5 weeks too... i went NUH for a scan yesterday due to abdominal cramps and brownish discharge and using th normal scan at the emergency room, the doctor actually said shes unsure whether is this a healthy pregnancy anot and i got a heart sank! then She sent me for a detail scan, during the scanning session, they will use both on tummy and transvaginal, then during the transvaginal, i manage to see something inside the sac!! i was super delighted!! that was when the doc did the double zoom super zoom then can see something inside!! now i am awaiting for my next appointment to check on my bb's heartbeat... this are the stages which worries most... hur hur

James: I went to the gynae when I was 5 weeks pregnant. By convention, "5 weeks pregnant" means 5 weeks from the first day of last menstruation. In essence, it means the baby is only 3 weeks old, if you assume ovulation happened exactly 2 weeks after first day of last menses.

For most people, ovulation does not happen exactly 14 days after last menses. For me, I have ever ovulated as late as 30 days after last menses (due to stress experienced during that cycle). My usual ovulation is on day 18, which is 3/4 of a week past the usual 14 day mark.

If your wife is like me, your baby could be < 3weeks old at 5 weeks, which means it might be too early for you to see anything.

At "5 weeks" (for me, because I did my own calculation using my ovulation date, I know my fetus was 3 weeks old), we managed to see the gestational sac. No further details, no yolk, no outline of the fetus, heck it's not even a fetus yet (only a fetus at 11 weeks :D).

At "8 weeks" we saw the baby, the blinking heart, its yolk sac and heard its heartbeat. My advice: prepare your phone/cam to video the moment down

At "11 weeks" we could see the baby's face and make out where its limbs are.

All the best!

James: Oh and, symptoms-wise, my morning sickness first surfaced middle of week 5. Since then I've been constantly nauseous. It does differ from person to person. My mom had fainting spells, I didn't. Your wife's resting heart rate will increase too, by some 15 beats. This is due to an increase in blood volume associated with the pregnancy. Her breasts will be tender due to hormones preparing them for breastfeeding. She might get crankier than usual -- I actually threw things once in week 6 in a moment of anger, something that I've never done ever. She might get heartburn from a sluggish digestive system brought about by the hormone relaxin coursing through her body that prepares her joints for labour. Let me know if you want more info.

As for obgyn in serangoon area (I live in serangoon), my husband and I have visited the following gynaes:-

- Phua Soo Mear (clinic walkable from Kovan MRT, delivers at Mt A and TMC, extremely affordable, very traditional)
- Paul Tseng (clinic in TMC, delivers at Mt A and TMC but prefers TMC, pricey, professional, fantastic clinic support staff)
- Kenneth Lee (OUR PICK -- clinic in Mt A, delivers at Mt A, mid-range pricing, very engaging, chatty, forthright, wife is a paediatrician, we were convinced and didn't need to look further)

Hi Joyce, I currently in my 5th week n I m seeing the gynae tmr. Wat can I expect tmr? Will a scan b does n wat do I c in the scan?

Hi Mrs R, I got an ultrasound scan at 5 weeks through my tummy and I saw my baby's gestational sac, which pretty much confirms the pregnancy

No further details because it's still too early. I only heard heartbeat at 8weeks.

If you are gassy and nothing shows up on ultrasound through tummy, your doc might do a vaginal scan to get a clearer look. This is what happened for my scan at 8 weeks.

For my case (back in 2009), I made my baby based on ovulation test strips (Day 15) and tested I got pregnant on Day 30 thru pregnancy test strips. But to double confirm, I went to pharmacy to buy the pregnancy test kit and the same result tested was positive. But on the same day, I got heavy bleeding and I went to my gynae, she used v scan because it is in too early stage but can see anything. Although pregnancy tests kit given the positive result, she still go ahead with blood test. Blood tests are indeed more accurate than home urine tests. The blood test is checking the level of the pregnancy hormone (hCG) and you have to go back after 2 to 3 day for second test. They will that the two test to ensure the pregnancy hormone, because if is pregnant, the hCG level will be doubling.

Hi Baby Dino, Mrs R and Joyce, can I check if you experience any soreness in your breast before you know you are pregnant?

Sorry to post here while u guys have discussion. I need a little help. Do get to me for adoption of baby. As I'm trying to adopt one with reasonable amount which dont exceed 9,000.

Due to not able to give birth anymore(knew the news last month due to 2 times miscarriage in a year), i decided to go for adoption. The news really hurts me lOts coz I'm just 24 and have not even a kid yet. And the news do hurt my mum a lot too . She went a little bit far more than depressed and always thinking that baby is still in me whenever she thinks of it. Consult doctor but was saying medication can't cure only control as she needs to work out herself. So despite I'm very sad and depressed I got to think of not only me but her too.and at this point of time, Husband left me too. So my dad and I came out with a solution, since I can't give birth, why not adopt those who are keen to put for adoption so that my mum can be better and I can have a better motivation of living my life better.  kindly do help out for this.  it will be good for going to give birth de or newborn as they still can't recognise if not its like so cruel for those who alrd know their parents. Kindly give a helping hand. Apps 83006803 thank

When I was pregnant with my younger son, my gynae also can't see anything... He only manage to see a "hole" and said it is there... but he didn't managed to find it until he magnifies the ultra sound by a lot.

That scan was the longest in my all my ultrascan experiences. Then after the first scan, the second scan I only see a hole with nothing inside, but doctor said "See... your baby here?" -_- so I just listen to doctor and assumed baby there.

My gynae was Dr John Tee from KKH.

Symptoms of being pregnant is very obvious for me. Always feeling greasy and like want to vomit even though I have ate nothing. Feeling dizzy all the time etc. And I don't remember there's any soreness...
