2016/08 August babies

Anyone going to the baby fair in mid jan? Coz it is still within the first trimester, not sure if it is wise to buy anything yet.

There are many baby fair a year. But only 1-2 that are really big & solid. Personally i will only buy after the 20week detail scan and for the expensive & big ticket items, only during one of those larger bigger fair.

not going to baby fair. I think I've most baby stuff. Need to unpack and find them after knowing gender haha. I've a whole bag of boy and a bag of girl stuff!

Hahaha you're not first time mama so most of the things you should have. I hope I don't buy too many random things. First time mother, no experience :p

What to buy and what not to buy?

i'm also hesitating to shop before gender is confirmed. don't have much to buy as will be reusing as much as possible frm #1. only interested in uv steriliser for now. steam one can put at my mum's plc.

If you have a car, definitely a car seat. Some people buy stroller but I intend to babywear, so I would buy a carrier insteas. Baby cot if you don't want to Co sleep. These are the bigger tickets item. For clothes, I got lots of hand me down. I will buy some cloth diapers because I like to use cloth instead of disposable.
Steraliser for bottle feeding. You might want to buy some bottles too - I like those glass types.
Breast pump is another must especially a double pump to save time during pumping unless you are a sahm and wants to direct latch only.

actually in e beginning if bring bb out mostly will carry cos not too heavy yet. so i tink carrier can wait. i bot my ergo w infant insert (more ex than w/o) end up my mum forbid me to use say bb spine not firm yet dun put upright blah blah... my infant insert is still brand new n collecting dust lo -_-"

Oh wow, so many things to buy. Thanks all experienced mommies for your input. Can take the chance to go shopping! Usually how early people start buying? I haven't pass my first trimester. Now only week 9 going 10.

Like kiasu if I buy at this coming baby fair?

buy those essential items first (like bottles, pumps). Those you de mei de can buy later. But i learnt my lesson..buy everything b4 last trimester..because by tt time, ur tummy will be so big until shopping becomes a chore. Walk a few steps already v tired and go shopping, just chop chop buy the stuffs and go home. Din really "enjoy" the shopping process of choosing the stuffs.

Sometimes bottles got pink/blue also. Hehe. But sterilizer, bottle water, pumps, diapers, baby cream, oil, shampoo, detergent etc indeed can buy earlier. :))) anyone here having bad morning sickness alr?

I only shop after detail scan. For those item with warrenty i buy later unless really good deal and warrenty can start from the birth of the child.

I hope i can get to shop for different gender clothing else nth much i need to buy as this is #3.

It was my first pregnancy and my first checkup with the gynae yesterday. I teared when the gynae told me that my baby is developing well and the heartbeat is strong. My baby is already 9 weeks and 4 days today. The news of my pregnancy was so unreal till I did the scan. It is such a miraculous feeling to have a baby living within me. However as I am approaching 35 years old and it is my first birth, the gynae recommended me for the oscar scan. There are 2 types of oscar scans, one at $380+ and the other at $1200+. We discussed that we should do the cheaper one first unless if *touchwood*....
My first visit cost me about $200+ . Dun know if this is consider reasonable? The consultation alone costs $120 and we still have to pay for the urine strip and scan.
i went KKH for first visit did urine test, scan, consultation, got vomiting medicine, cost about $78. subsidized rate. maybe u wanna go KKH

think scedule for appointment maybe 2-3 weeks? waiting time.... i think i was there around 2.40pm then i'm done around 5-6pm? it's a long wait. then served by a group of doctors. they just look at your file to see your record. i think if your pregnancy u don't have many question you can try subsidized. need to get referral letter from polyclinic. i think my down syndrome scan less than $200. should be around $175 or so

Wah! 2-3 hours wait....
Are the doctors trainees?

actually during this time i did urine test, scan, see doctor, take medicine, then pay bill. so 2-3 hours still ok cos did many things. but it's unpredictable. my last pregnancy i did wait quite a while to see doctor.

don't think the doctors are trainee. in fact the doctor i saw even had a trainee to understudy her. she's quite good.

Im with kkh but abit regret. Im a private patient seeing Dr Han How Chuan. Im now thinking very hard if i should change to a gynae from private hospital.

When u have a normal n smooth pregnancy, kkh is absolutely fine. But if you have problems in your pregnancy, kkh sucks. For eg. I am having bleeding issues. I tried to see Dr Han but couldnt. They only take in those with appts. If you need to see a doc urgently, u have to go to the 24hr clinic and be seen by the medical officers there. Your doctor wont care. You only get to see him on your next scheduled appt. I went to the 24 hr clinic 3 times in last 4 weeks. But if you are seeing a gynae from private practise, if you call in to tell them your situation, they will ask u to go in to see the doc. Also, their way of handling also different. Kkh is more like 'leave it in god's hands' while private docs will try to do more to save the situation.

The only good thing abt kkh is in time of child birth, if you have any complications, it is much cheaper than private hospital. This is my main concern abt not changing hospital now. But in terms of delivery charges, the differences if you are a private in kkh is about 1k cheaper than private hospitals.

My advice is if to go to a gynae in private practise if you can (tmc and mount a have some good ones). If u choose kkh, then maybe subsidized patient more worth it...but cant choose gynae.

All said, i wish all mummies here have a smooth pregnancy. Jiayou, everyone!

Oh btw, im seeing a tcm now whom i find quite good. Im abit scared to take tcm on first trimester, but after much thoughts i feel i should give it a try. Hopefully the tcm can help stabilise the pregnancy, cos i am on duphaston 3 times a day but still have same problem. If anyone needs tcm contact, let me know.

You have bleeding issue?

Yup, at first is spotting. Then fresh red blood. Went kkh 24 hr clinic, bb still ok w heartbeat, given duphaston 3x a day. Bleeding stop and 2 weeks later come back again. 3 times in 4 weeks. All 3 times same scenerio but heng all 3 times bb is alright. The doc just write threatened miscarriage on the booklet.

I went to see tcm ytd. He says by right have to complete bed rest. But kkh doesn't give hospitalisation leave if not hospitalised. My fren who is seeing a private gynae given hospitalisation leave to rest at home. But anyway, i try to avoid that cos my boss will jump. So i just do things slowly...like walk slowly n try to sit more.

I think there are different tier of subsidised rates in KKH. If you get referral from polyclinic, you will be under the max subsidised rate, you will be service by a team of gynaes. They are all trained and experienced doctors just that you can't choose who to deliver baby for you, it depends on who is on shift during your labour. Under subsidise rates, there will be houseman that will be following the senior doctors and also involve in your care. I heard that the stitching after labour could be done by the house man.
The other rate is partly subsided. You can choose your own gynae but it's not under the private suite so you still do your sonograph with the sonographer instead of at the clinic itself.

I had bleeding issue last week too and was given utrogestan, 2 times a day for 2 weeks. My bleeding is not from baby but cervix and gynae also say don't need to complete bed rest.

Maybe it's case to case basis? But I can feel how scared you were at that point of time.. Are you okay now?

I am feeling okay! Thanks! I try to stay positive. I talk to bb everyday haha. Tell bb to jiayou and mummy also will jiayou. Good thing is my bb heartbeat is strong, on mon(most recent bleeding) hb was 193 bpm. The tcm med tastes very bitter, but i just take religiously 3x a day.

That's great to hear.
Wow 193 is v fast...mine today 126...is it ok/normal?

Yes 126 is perfectly normal. How many weeks are u at? It will increase to abt 160-170 then decrease to abt 140. Mine is abit on the fast side, but the doc at kkh 24 hr clinic didnt mention anything so i think that's fine. I will wait till 16th jan for next ultrasound and check w gynae.

Hi caldaf, thanks for all the info you've shared.
I agree, KKH is a gd place with all the necessary equipment u need if there are complications during labour.
But if need special attention, I guess pte gynae still is the preferred choice. Of cuz price will be higher, cuz u paid for the service.

So r u going to change gynae or stick to Dr Han?

But what if KKH know my previous case of details.. I got to choose KKH again cause my record is there.... :(

How many weeks are you currently? Are you going to change to a private gynae?
