(2014/08) August 2014

previously I attended TMC Mrs Wong Boi Boi's class even thou I delivered at Mt A. She's very popular, her class is always very full!

Just checked out antenatal class schedule at Mt E, and it seems next series of classes will only begin in early July and complete by end July. Do you reckon this is too late? My due date is third week Aug.

Or should I check out antenata classes at other hospital even if I will be delivering in Mt E?

Been wanting to ask, do you take calcium, iron and fish oil tablets together? Or do we need to separate iron and calcium tablets?
Keep forgetting to ask my gynae. Next visit in a month's time, so any advice from all MTB and Mummies will be appreciated. My rationale for taking calcium and iron separately is i know iron and milk cannot go together. And since calcium is essentially found in milk, could this be an issue as well?

I was told to take my calcium pill in the afternoon and my fish oil in the evening.
I didn't ask why though... I just follow as told.

Then as for iron, my gynae gave me multi-vit which he asked me to take 1 hour after I drink my milk.

I called the one at Gleneagles. Receptionist recommended to attend only in June/Jul for delivery in August! Gleneagles one costs I think $280 for Fri night classes and $320/$330 for Sat morning class. Their sessions are in early Jun/Jul.

I take my multi vits in the afternoon after lunch. Fish oil.. Always forget to take and only end up taking just before I sleep.

I'm not taking calcium tablets. I asked today if its necessary and was informed as long as I'm drinking sufficient milk I'm fine.

It's much cheaper in Gleneagles than Thomson then, but I think since I registered and paid for Thomson will stick to them. July sounds a bit cutting close to the date cos what if deliver early :)? ha ha but of course if attend too early then may forget the lessons. I plan to video some part of the lessons so that I can remember them if need be.

Different gynaes really have different practices. My gynae put me on calcium since 6-7th week, and upgraded me to super big calcium tablets once I hit 2nd trimester. I read somewhere that if overdose on calcium baby will come up with teeth in them! I told my gynae this and he laughed it off, saying he would rather I had more of calcium than not enough of it as baby really needs lots of calcium. I'm also on fish oil (twice a day) almost since day 1.

@Seaturtle - Ya that's why they don't recommend to attend any earlier. I wanted a May slot one lor!! Haha! June should be best la.

I read somewhere that there is a safe upper limit for calcium. So although we should get around 1200mg a day, a safe upper limit is like 2000+mg!

I'm on multi-vit , calcium n fish oil.... Not taking extra iron.

Consuem high Iron food will be sufficient for our need. Iron in most supplements are chemical produce n fat soluble thus not advisable unless prescribe by doctor.

@queeensg - ha ha ok I go check with my gynae. no mg mentioned on the packet so I also clueless. My vitamins are quite expensive at my gynae but I prefer to get from him cos I trust his medication. My multivits are super big and bright pink somemore lol. Still I think so far I can see their effects - my hair and nails are stronger, and I don't really have cramps at night (which be caused by calcium deficiency) though might be early days to comment.

I signed up for prenatal class with Thomson in May. Many mummies recommend Wong bio bio class, but the slot which I wanted conducted by another lady. No choice.

The super big and bright pink pills - Is it New Obimin pills?

I just signed up for pre-natal class with Thomson, conducted by Mrs Wong BB.. Quite expensive because it's a weekend class, my husband only free to attend with me on weekend, so no choice. :p

Hi xlxin I don't know the brand cos gynae keeps it unknown heh. He said he has been using for past 40 years so I sticking to it.

Think it's different.. My gynae also gave me this multi-vit that is big and bright pink...
But it's too difficult for me to swallow + there's a smell to it that caused me to vomit out a few times..
In the end, I feedback to him and request for a change and he gave me another type which is capsule form, easier to swallow..
But the new vits cost double!! -.-"

Waiwish, I will be delivering at TMC but my husband and I have registered antenatal class at NUH, at Saturday class starting on 19 April at 11am.

Most hospitals have antenatal classes, u may check their timing and slots available

yep, I was told to take separately. usually I'll take fish oil, iron & vit c in morn. then calcium in the evening.

do be careful abt the salad dressings. had severe vomiting & diarrhea (probably food poisoning) when I had caesar salad during #1. had to take 2 jabs to stop the vomiting & diarrhea. was so worried that will get dehydrated & affect baby.

I ate lots of carbs & beef, & gained 20kg, when I had #1. but I rather have the weight gain & have a healthy baby.

Hi may I chk what injection they gave u? Thks!

I've also signed up for Wong boh boi class under TMC at AMK hub. Opted for Thursday evening coz cheaper than weekends. :)

I didn't know weekdays were cheaper :p but both hubby and my schedule doesn't allow for weekday nights so no choice weekends. Glad that @waiwish you got the weekday discount!

Anyone interested in Prenatal Yoga?
I just sign up for a free trial this Sat at Yoga Inc.
Anyone who is interested to try out, can check it out. =)

Hi may I chk what injection they gave u? Thks!

it helps to stop the diarrhea & vomiting, not sure abt the name.

but recently when I had diarrhea (ate wrong food again), my gynae juz gave me some probiotics (lacto forte) & didn't give me any injection. she mention that the injection is not very good, it stops the stomach & cause the toxins to build up inside. it's better to take probiotics & let the body purge out the toxins naturally. so they try not to give injection unless absolutely necessary.

@waiwish - agree with babykangarOo. It's more of a "pantang" thing. I found the following explanation in a blog (http://jjme.wordpress.com/traditions/superstitions-and-practices-during-pregnancy/) which summarises what my mum used to tell me as well:

Superstition: This superstition can be related to the traditional Chinese belief of a person’s birth time, Four Pillars of Destiny (生辰八字 Shēng Chén Bā Zì, see link). Most traditional Chinese weddings choose an auspicious date for their wedding celebration, and in reality this auspicious day may not be everybody’s lucky day because each person has their own Four Pillars of their birth time. The Chinese believes the qi energy and the “luck” of the bride and groom is at their highest on their wedding day. If the pregnant mother’s 生辰八字 somehow clashes with the bride and groom’s, there is a risk that the counter force or energy will backfire and cause harm to the health and luck of the pregnant mother, thus indirectly affecting the fetus.

I think it's up to you whether to follow this precaution. I would avoid weddings more because I'm scared of crowds actually, unless very close to the couple getting married.

Is it a taboo to attend wedding functions now?
Ya... Agree that it depends on individual..
Personally have not attend any weddings but went for 2 baby showers already.
I think the clash part for wedding is more applicable for the morning customary, wedding dinner/lunch normally is quite ok.

Any started shopping yet? Me very eager to shop but yet to know my baby's gender. Hmm... And wonder if it's too early to shop now? So many things and brands to choose. I am quite lost tho. :p

I think it is good to start to source for milk pump, stroller, etc cos there are afew bb fair upcoming soon, so can go thr and str away buy.

I know it's pure superstitions but what @Seaturtle shared also sounds logical if you are into bazhi.

I can't help being affected after suffering 3 losses in a yr, and I'm sure God will continue to show the path.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

On a separate note, anyone thinking of getting second hand electric pump? It's costly to get a brand new one but I'm wondering what needs to be changed for second hand pump and do u reckon it's ok?

anyone having planned c-sect? which date u planning?

I'm having planned c-sect this time. #1 is emergency c-sect, so tot it's safer to juz go for planned c-sect. planning for ~38W (last wk of jul/ first wk of aug), but can't decide on actual date.

btw, the hospital probably gonna be packed & service standard might drop on popular dates like 8aug & 9aug.

re breast pump, I bought a parallel import set from US. it's brand new & much cheaper (almost half price) than in SG. only downside is no local warranty. but there r some BP sellers selling with their own warranty or they let u test first during collection. u might want to consider.
