Thanks all mommies. Anyway, now company sack me also have to give me my maternity leave. I just endure the 'face colors' the bosses give me

thks mummies!!

I have called MOM this morning and the following is an email I had sent to them so they an follow up on my case.

Really so angry that they make use of me like that. News of the company downsizing was out like 3 weeks ago. And they dun tell me about this maternity leave changes until i had helped them to shift to the new office. If want me to work pt y dun early say? so obvious wanna make use of me.
not going to let them off so easily!
This is the email :

I have made some calls to the Ministry Of Manpower regarding my maternity leave. I was advice by Mr Kelvin on the phone to send this email so as to have a black n white documatation about my enquiries.

My situation is this.

I joined my current company somewhere end of June 2009. I was given my confirmation on 26th September 2009. In the appointment letter, I have to work 8.30am - 5.00 pm Mondays to Fridays ,2 nights clinics per week operating from 6.30 pm - 9.00 pm and half a day on a week end. My salary for this arrengement is $. The HR was very aware that I am pregnant and my EDD when they give me the confirmation.

On 3rd of November 2009, I was told by my HR, Ms A, together with my > manager, Mr B, that due to the new opening hours of the clinic, the company will only need my service half a day on Wednesday (9.00 am- 12.00noon) and 1 day on Friday (9.00 am - 5.00 pm). I was also told that my maternity leave will still be paid as i am still eligible but it will be base on part time basis ($8/hr) and only paid as on the days that I am required to work as a part timer.

I was not comfortable with the proposed arrangement so I made a call to the Ministry Of Manpower. My call was answered by a Ms Friza. Upon hearing my situation, she adviced that I should voice out my concern to my HR and to further discuss if there were any other options available. She also advice that if the company terminate me at this point of time, they are atill eligible to pay me my full 16 weeks maternity leave. I was also told that the company will have to issue a new contract if they were to made anY amendments to the appointment letter and that it should be a contract mutually agreed upon.

After hanging up with Ms Friza, I called Ms A and told her that I do not agree to the part time arrangement. I was again told that she had tried to source if there were any other positions they can slot me to but apparently there were none. I asked what my options are and she said that there wasn't any other option. It was a either I stay or I go situation. I asked her if I were to go, do I tender my resignation or will the company give me a termination letter. Ms A answered that I will have to tender my resignation as I was the one who is not agreeable to the propsosed plan. I felt that the situation was really unfair to me. I am sure the company is aware that they cannot terminate me now. The options given seems like forcing me to accept a lower than usual maternity pay or to totally lose the maternity incentive by resigning. I told her that I will get back to
her about this issue.

I then made a call back to MOM and left my number with a
lady. Mr Kelvin called me back a short while later. I told him the whole situation and my conversation with Ms A.
After checking with his supervisor, I was adviced that under the MOM employment guide line, even though I am the party not agreeable to the proposed plan, I am not obligated to tender my resignation. The company should continue my employment as per the existing appoinment letter or the company can terminate my service if they think that they do not need my service due to the change in the operation
timing. Either way, the company is obligated to pay me my 16 weeks maternity leave.

Mr Kelvin had given me this email address so that I can have the advice given in black and white. I will appreciate if you could verify the above advice are correct. Please
also advice if there are still any options that I can look into regarding this situation.

Yours Sincerely

yiqi - that is good.. everything must be in black and white.. a lot of companies tink their staff dun not know how to seek for advice and will accept watever terms they give.. they forgot.. employees too .. have their rights .. and esp when u r preggie now.. i tink they juz wanna abuse you..

heng u call.. cuz remember once in last trimester.. not able to terminate.. if yes, oso must pay the maternity leave..

Hi All,

Why pay more for the Car Insurance when we can save the monies to buy pretty clothes for our kids / Lot of toys / BEST milk powder in town / send them to the MOST reputable Montessori / bring your kids for holiday / pamper yourself with branded stuffs.....and many more.

Car insurance have to be renewed every year, as with most car owners, we do not have the time to approach each and every car insurer for quotations, not to mention going through the fine prints in detail and comparing plans.

Most of us end up renewing our car insurance with the existing insurer and not knowing that we might be paying $200 - $500 more...

By comparing quotations from all 10 Singapore Motor Insurers, we will do a FREE comparison for you with all motor insurance companies in Singapore...insurers that you heard often as well as others that you have not.

For more information, please email to me [email protected] for a NO OBLIGATION FREE QUOTE.

hihi, have mummies got ready the confinement food Ingredients? Any recommendation to get from any medical hall?

Good job! Yiqi, but did MOM advise what happens if you continue on your terms of the contract but company refuse to pay you? Is there any MOM mediation officer in such cases? Wow, didn't know a clinic, big enough with a HR dept somemore can have such lousy HR policies to discriminate against pregnant women? :p

it's a wet morning here in the east.
how i wish i can stay in bed longer...
yawn.gif

morning ladies!

i've jus paid the shipping charges for babymallonline stuffs and it's so ex!!! S$300+++ for 2 big parcels!! will weigh accordingly when the stuffs reach me.

It's great, yiqi. I am glad your made your stand clear. Some companies are really heartless to make use of our situation. Don't tender your resignation or else you will get nothing! Can even write in to the forum and let the ministers read why we women are so afraid of losing our jobs because we are trying to raise the birth rate.

tks mummies!

Ytd when i went back to HQ, she keep asking my manager to ask me for and answer. She said that if i wanna sign the pt agreenment then she will have to prepare the enw contract n i can start the pt next week. FAT HOPE!!
I said I have not yet decided. Actual fact is i am waiting to see what MOM have to say.

For the past 3 weeks so many shifting to do they don't tell me the news.. after i have shifted everyting for them then they kick me aside.

Anyway.. today no go work.. cos today working in HQ.. dun wanna see her face..

morning! feelin so tired nowadays....back always ache in the morning especially in the morning. count down to my leave 10 more working days to go..... **yawn**

yup, yiqi. Don't let them pressure you in making the wrong decision. The HR woman knows what she is doing is against the labour law that is why she is pushing you to take the blame if anything goes wrong.

Is she married herself? Is she thinking of having a baby someday? Doesn't she put herself in your shoes? Or maybe she herself is acting under your big boss' commands.

My HB always says "Don't do to others what you don't want others to do to you"

and she say a lot of "bird language" say got pt complain say they missed their vaccine, called all the way to HR and complain to her.. and say she no say earlier cos she dun find it appropriate.. given their character if really got this kind of complain i dun believe they can keep quiet for so long.

really trying to take advantage.

Genesis : Wao so fast .. i still got around one more month to my ml wor. Im getting more n more tired also.

Hope gynae can give me HL lor lol.

So good!! 10working days to go!!
I have cleared all my childcare leave for #1 and left a few days annual leave for 2009.
Still thinking whether to clear them this year or leave till 2010.. hmmm..

Im super tired this week...
I really salute all working mummies!

It is not an easy task at all!
TIRED!!!!!

morning mummies!!

Ling Lee - totally agree man.. mi oso wish to stay in bed and not go work.. sianz!!

Sandy - my coligs oso say my tummy going down liao.. tink will get more uncomfy..

yiqi - tink they will find lotz of excuses now!! sick!! be firm and they cannot bully u!!

genesis - so GOOD!! my last working day next fri.. then clearing 2 weeks leave!! YEAH!!

mummyfel: too bad i work in an organization where I can't claim childcare leave unless my child is really sick. so far, i only used 1 day. My last day is next friday and I can't wait!

yiqi: stay cool ok? If I were you I'd be really angry too but now you must take care of yourself. We have the law to protect us so don't worry! Ignore the HR woman until you get the official reply from MOM, do get them to do the investigations.

After many yrs of good service (reflected in her appraisals), my aunt was sacked. She asked MOM to help and the company still found excuses saying that her work performance was bad. My aunt challenged them by asking why that problem was not reflected in her appraisals. In the end, her company revoked the termination letter. Moral of the story is, fight for what we believe is right. =)

the funny thing is hor, even she also can tell me cos this is my 3rd baby, she can claim the full 16 weeks pay fr MCYS. then y is she doing this? its not out of company's pocket.

nonsnese lor.. the ger who was suppose to come and take over my job scope when i go ML is hired also cos in the 1st place thhey r short handed.

i am sure the MOM can help.

Hi morn everyone,

can anyone update me on the address of the shop at Tanjong Pagar selling cheap baby clothes and towels?

Trying to locate the post in this thread but failed.

Sandy: I work under a foreign system. I actually did not know about the childcare leave entitlement until my son was sick last month. My equally-confused angmoh boss even asked if I was taking unpaid leave. I said I'd use my personal leave (we have 2 days for that) instead before he finally checked with the HR that as a local, I get childcare leave. But if unclaimed then too bad, over here no such thing as clearing leave.

Hi T Mum,
Are you referring to Bugis instead?
The shop is in front of the Kwan Imm temple. If you are standing in front of the temple with back facing, the shop is on your left, near the toilet.
