tien>> i only managed to scroll back on the archives and read your birth story.. dun worry la, i was also a cry baby when i pop.. heehee.. i cried from the moment my gynae issued me the ultimatum of 2 hours more and no significant dilation and caeser it will be.. then from that point, i started my crying business..

630pm - gynae issued ultimatum, i cried
7pm - nurse did VE check, no progress, i cried
730pm - nurse did VE check, dilated an additional 2 cm! very happy, i cried
8pm - keep praying for more dilation, i cried
830pm - nurse did one last VE, dilation stopped at 5cm, baby's heartbeat a bit erratic, must call gynae and ask for instructions, i cried
835pm - gynae confirms caeser, i sobbed so hard i had blocked nose
and i cried all the way from the delivery suite to the OT
reached OT, i saw my gynae, i cried
OT staffs tried to talk to me to console me, i cried even harder
PD reached, came to talk to me, i also cried

see, you are not alone in all that crying la!
wad is most impt is our precious babies are here safe and sound!

was just telling miser if ME am the teng's maths tutor.. he no chance to pass his PSLE maths. the stupid man not even concerned.. his reply -->'get a maths tutor lor'. duh..

i wasn't in an air cold room then. i can still remembered that day quite vividly.. in fact it was a very very warm day.. teng was breaking out in heat rash.. and i was suffering PNA (post natel anxiety) then. hey.. then no way i can wake the sleepy head up.. he was SO drowsy and so tightly bundled up.. then fed up.. i removed everything (except diaper). the boy got startled and woke up screaming. my mum snapped at me asked me put ack his swaddle etc.. saying teng will catch a cold.. i snapped at her back 'what cold?! got rash liao? got eyes see or not?!'.. then i ignored her and locked myself in the room.. then i on aircon. teng suckled.. more alert.. but coz ss wasn't enough. after that feed fm lah. but i was happier. teng was awake. ug my mum super black face

.. dun care.. this time i will do the same

another reason for the lethargy.. cld be. coz he is nt feeding well.. and that causes general lethargy in any bbs.. and that makes them sleep more.. just keep disturbing them.. but if this persists for another 2 days or so.. and the bb appears dehydrated liao hor.. i think safer to bring to PD to ascertain if there are any underlying conditions..

ginger: i see..wah. i like ur style. firm and decisive. i know if i ever complain to miser.. miser might not do anything. he doesn't believe in telling pple off one.. hmm. got. he tells ME off.. duh..

Been busy reading to catch up with all the posts!

glass: Yah the farts are explosive! then the pong follows....hurhur

re water: i am being bombarded by ILs regarding this too! told them bb is getting 60ml of water tat is in the FM + BM also got sufficient water, but they refuse to listen. when bb cries, they start saying its coz he's thirsty n wants water! geez!!!

let me rant a bit here... but lately ILs are driving me up the wall. Since we moved back to our own place after confinement, they've been dropping by everyday. drop by its ok, but they keep passing comments on how we burp, carry bb etc... argh!!

ddnikz: i don't know y the milk leaks... It always happen early in the morning when i wipe myself clean, and when Im getting ready to pump. Thot gd, got milk but always end up first few pumps have then stop.. got to rest a while continue then manage to squeeze again... Im going to try again..

Last nite, I cried again.. Real loud this time. Had a talk with hubby... he told me if breastfeeding is the crux to my stress, he wants me to stop. Go FM for bb... cos we grew up on FM too.. he sees no harm although BM is best. He just doesn't want me to b so stress everyday and cry... He says baby can feel it and latching is not the only way to bond with bb. I agree but still want to try for a while.. If really so tough, I got to let go...

PY: Was it you who have engaged Mdm Rokiah's service for breast massage recently? Does she provide advice for breastfeeding problems or can she show how to latch baby on?

candy: i totally agree wif ur husb. no point stressing over milk ss. i have been thru exactly the same phase just a few days ago, except that i feed EBM since bb refuse to latch. sore n bleeding nips didnt help too. when the stress level went down, i find that i can express more now. dun worry, mother n baby bonding wont diminished overnight.

u r not alone. My MIL also. Damn irritating. Day 3 in hospital when milk not in yet. Kept asking why no milk? Then kept asking to give FM. Just had op no food no water of cos no milk right??? I was damn pissed. Then after that kept asking why dun we give her pacifier since she always crying non stop. ARGH!!!

Then HB told me he wanna ask his mum come over to help every afternoon. I was thinking if let her come she sure try n sabo my bf efforts. So i told him lets things fall into a routine first. Sigh...

29th Sept 2009 (Tuesday)
1130hrs - Arrived Mount Alvernia
Checked Mummy's weight - 73.4kg
Brought to Delivery Suite number 10
Changed into robe and did a urine test
Nurse gave medication to clear bowels while Daddy goes and do the admission papers
Bowels cleared, pill inserted into cervix for dilation
Did CTG for 20 min

30th Sept 2009 (Wednesday)
0600hrs - Had half a slice of wholemeal bread with 3 mouthfuls of Milo for 'breakfast'
0700hrs - Put on CTG
0900hrs - Dr Chen came and checked, still 2cm dilated. Breaking of water bag, surprisingly not painful
2 tubes of blood drawn for cord blood banking, drip hole set up for glucose and dilation drip
Extremely mild contractions felt
1400hrs - Dr Chen arrived, VE check revealed only 2.5cm dilated
1500hrs - Very constant contractions but still bearable but requested for epi
1530hrs - Epi administered in the hope of faster dilation
Shivered like crazy, drip intensity increased
1600hrs - VE check, no progress. Urine tube inserted to drain urine
1830hrs - Dr Chen arrived, VE check revealed only 3cm dilated
Dr Chen said she can feel baby's head already, but not sure why I am still not dilating
Dr Chen gave ultimatum, 2 hours no significant dilation will go for caeser
1930hrs - Nurse did VE, 5 cm dilated
Yeah! Thought if by 2030hrs can dilate another 2 cm, will be able to have a natural labour
2030hrs - Nurse did VE, still 5 cm dilated, CTG revealed baby's heartbeat starting to be irregular
Nurse gave Dr Chen a call, confirmed caeser.
The whole labour suite sprang into action - Nurse shaved me, increased epi dosage, inserted urine tube and bag, and , calls given to Anesthetist and PD to standy in OT within 20 minutes
Cried very badly coz really did not expect to have to undergo the knife
2040hrs - Dr Chen arrived and was shocked to see Mie in tears, comforted me and told me is for the good of both mother and baby, especially since the labour has been ongoing for so long and still no progress

2050hrs - Pushed into OT, shivered like crazy coz it was damn damn damn damn cold inside
All the staff in the OT comforted me whilst waiting for the Anesthetist to arrive
Dr Chen informed the whole OT that I am having a baby girl, and her name is Isabelle
PD arrived and introduced himself to me (I couldn't see his face clearly coz I wasn't wearing my glasses), I sobbed even harder when he reassured me

*All this while from being pushed out from the delivery suite to the OT and until the arrival of the anesthetist, I was alone, hubby was not allowed to come in yet*

Anesthetist finally arrived, increased dosage for epi, I could still feel my toes
Kept exclaiming to Dr Chen that I can still wriggle my toes, damn scared that they will cut me whilst I can still feel sensations
Asked for my hubby, he was being brought in by then
Anesthetist gave me gas to breathe (not sure wad gas that is) and I felt damn damn damn high.
Hubby arrived, held my hand throughout and stood next to Dr Chen and witnessed the whole process.
Anesthetist talked to me throughout the whole operation, telling me what they are doing, should expect some tugging coz they bringing the baby out, etc.. but all the while I was damn high and felt as though it was deja vu (though I really have no idea wad to expect and have never gone through this before) and I also felt that I was in dreamland

2122hrs - Isabelle arrived!!! The whole OT congratulated me and exclaimed, is a pretty baby girl! Isabelle's loud cries took over their congratulatory words (though I cannot remember that she cried very loudly). Gas mask taken off and I regained consciousness quite fast, but still a little groggy. I remember asking if baby looks like Mummy. Baby was put onto my chest and all I can recall is seeing her double eyelids,

Someone helped us to take photos, and I quickly asked hubby to follow baby whilst Dr Chen sewed me up. Was very groggy and went in and out of sleep, and remember hearing Dr Chen talking to some pple about cars - BMW, Lexus etc.. whilst sewing me.
After being sewed up, I was brought to another waiting area where I went in and out of sleep again, someone was with me, but not sure guy or lady.

Finally brought into ward, Darling was waiting at the ward for me. Only can recall I keep asking them for painkiller coz I was scared of feeling the pain from the cut, in case the epi effect wore off faster than expected. Whole night drifted in and out of sleep, Darling stayed over though he was not allowed to coz we were in a 2 bedder (1 bedder not available!). But guess they closed one eye due to my first day of operation.

Yeaps, that's it, my birth story. Pretty traumatising for me. Have never stayed in a hospital and never had an operation in my whole life, and I actually underwent the whole ordeal to have my baby Isabelle. She is my 'ming gen' now.

Hi mummies,
I am having a crisis!! My colostrum is drying up...although have been successfully latching Yu Xi on for 2 hrs inthe morning and 45 mins just now, bb is still hungry. Have to feed her glucose. Then nurse 1 fed using cup but apparently not enough so nurse 2 fed more BUT she go and 'gei kiang' fed using teats!! Almost wanted to murder her...took me a while to learn latching this girl leh!!! Now have to train again!! ARGH!!! Even the LC was mad when I told her this!!!

Now downing all sorts of liquids to get myself hydrated and massaging me like mad. Mum's here can't drink water haha...been drinking milo...SHUCKS...FAT AGAIN!!

Now a little concerned if this colostrum problem will affect the milk supply....

Hi juz to check how long u all waited after latching then to pump out the excess milk? I went to pump imm. And the yield is pathetic. Ha cl told me to wait at least one hr after latching then go and pump. But if this way if bb wake up in an hr time after I pump, is there enough for her?

I know that FM is what my CL wants cos it's very convenient. But then what can I do leh? Like I say, I don't want to offend her loh. Today is the 13th day she is hear... almost halfway through my confinement.

But once she leaves, then the downside is that I don't have time to express as much liao. Max I can express is about 4 to 5 times a day.. cos I'll have to take care of my boy myself. Inlaws are busy with my elder girl.

Candy, I'm in the same situation as you. My milk was not enough in week 3. Week 2 I could feed her and then she will cry for milk 3 hours from the start of the last feed, so I knew that she was OK. But week 3 she cried and cried non stop and there were times when she was perpetually latched on. I had to latch on and off for 2 hours. When I pumped nothing much came out. Only in the mornings would there be something.

It reached the point were I dreaded hearing bb cry because it meant feeding time, and I wasn't enjoying bb. I was so tired, feeling so giddy that at times I don't dare to carry her. Finally got to see Wong Boh Boi on Tues and she said, no milk! Supply stopped because of exhaustion and diet (can't take tangkwei, not enough fluids). My bb also underweight. So sad! I've cried everyday since I've given birth but after that consultation, I think I really hit rock bottom. I was in denial all along, I just latched her hoping that she will get enough by doing that but actually I was starving her!

So now I have to feed her formula and hopefully restart my engine. Yes, breastfeeding was a major stress point for me. My past 3 weeks all revolved around wondering if she is getting enough and being totally exhausted and frustrated over feeding. Now no choice, I have to use formula, but I tell myself that my priority is to ensure that she gets enough. I have to face up to the fact that I am not producing enough.

See a lactation consultant if you are not sure.

Astro: Yeah, Im thankful for a man like him. He's always there for me. He just didn't want me to get so stress up that I miss the time with my gal. He told me to send a pic or an update of bb's progress everyday as he is always coming back home late recently and has not carried bb for 2 days.

PY: Thanks. Btw, my gal is also called Charlotte but she's not as big as yours. Only 2.79kg at birth. I tried calling Mdm Rokiah but she was in having a class but she sent me an sms saying she would reply. I waited but has not received her call yet. Mayb i call back tmr.

Dear mummies,
I saw my baby's buttocks. Anus area is very red, and today it has little raised bumps.
It's diaper rash.

Do you know how many days on average it takes for the diaper rash to clear? Need to see PD on which day if doesn't clear?
My elder gal's diaper rash not as bad as my boy's.

CL say the diaper rash was due to his diarrheoa after taking my EBM. Today CL only fed him 40ml of EBM. After the feed, I could hear him fart like machine gun. Starting to think maybe it's due to my EBM leh.

Now I just hope his diaper rash clears. After I suggested to her to use cloth diaper, she didn't want to. But she just told me my boy is now in cloth diaper. Phew.

Mummy worry about little boy's diaper rash.

I had contractions since 36th weeks. I continued working... and on the day before I delivered I was still working. This time I seem to have higher tolerance of pain cos on the eve of my delivery, I had contractions (or tightenings) that lasted for 20 to 30 minutes, at 4 hour intervals. And I could still concentrate on my work. Fantastic I thought.

I was all rolled up and couldn't do anything, when I had my contractions, when I was preggy with my elder gal hahaa.

u have desitin? air his bottom.. keep it dry.. alllow him to go diaperless for certain intervals of the day.. it shd clear with 3 - 5 days...

Sweetzinc : I normally pump right away when baby is sleeping.

Ewe : Desitin is good. It can clear up the rashes quite fast.
I also fed my girl EBM. But my hubby insist that we can only feed her a bit. He is worried that my girl wouldn't get enough nutrient since my breastmilk is meant for a 1 mth old and not for a 2.5 yrs old. He is a gan cheong spider.

Re diaper rash - do you use barrier cream? I've used it from Day 1, always apply after a diaper change. So far bb had slight diaper rash - just red and a few bumps, I used Drapolene because can't find Desitin. Cleared up within 2 days.

But keep up the barrier cream. Now I still apply Drapolene as barrier cream (was using the Avent one earlier on).

Hey mummies guess? what my CL come and complain to me abt MIL.. say she's very restrictive.. sometimes my CL want to cook like pan fried fish or what for me.. she will like scare of oily or dunno what lah then dun allow her to cook.. ask her to steam instead.

my MIL is very very particular and niao.. my CL told me she like to maintain the cleanliness in the kitchen so sometimes if baby cries of coz she need to attend to the baby first ma.. then she tot she dun wanna wash up the dishes or left the cooking unattended..

that time my mom came over and visit me for the first time.. my MIL told my mom "aiyoh if i know, should have do the confinement over at ur place"
my mom gotta bring the pots and pans over to my mil place coz her place has nothing!!!

My mom told the CL to cook pig trotters for me.. then my MIL overheard and she just told my mom " i think cook over at ur place better" i mean hello.. my place is at bukit panjang.. mil place is at seng kang.. i dunno why my mil always like to trouble people (her son especially) by making him the delivery man. *rolleyes* so selfish.

abt full month celebration.. normally first time grandma will be very excited right? she's totally opposite wor! she is afraid of us inviting people to the place coz she scare of messing up and the cleaning up.. i mean wtf lor.. u know even giving out cakes, she also dun want .. scare of the trouble to go house by house to give out the cakes.. i really dunno what she's thinking.

Anyway also good for us. we save the budget on my HB's relatives side ha ha ha..

then i started my jamu massage 2 days ago.. i'm using her tinam for the massage (pls lah the cover is washable lor) the next day she gave me those plastic table cloth and ask me to lay over it during massage...

my goodness.. say she like clean also not v clean leh.. she can leave the bread there uncover overnight. so ironic.

ARGH i got more to rant. If only my own house got enough space for me to do confinement

the other day i told my HB that i wanted to move back.. hai..

But after that i told my HB what CL told me and she went to confront his mom.. as expected, mil got a story, cl has another story haha. whatever is it he reassure me that mil is able to allow cl to cook whatever food she wants me to eat.

Ewe: My CL said if there's pus on the bumps can go pharmacy n get a kind of medication which is stronger but meant for babies. But she doesn't knw the name. Just tell the pharmacist and they'll knw. If no pus and just red patches then apply nappy cream, will go away. She said couldn't be due to EBM. My gal also fart when she drinks EBM but CL nvr say anything leh..

Astro: I had the discharge at around 36 weeks. Mine is so thick
that it just "drop" during shower or peeing. It's actually the mucus plug loosening if im not wrong which means gg to give birth soon. Told my gynae abt it n he gave me antibiotics just in case it's infection. But I had no contractions or dilation at all even till 39 weeks! But bcos my gal is in breech position and getting big for my size (was 39kg before pregnancy) n doc suggest don't wait and opt for c-sect.

funzee: Im getting demoralised with all the pumping and only little supply, although today got slightly better yield. It's so troublesome to keep pumping and washing the parts so many times in a day. Each pumping session can last for abt an hr and i dunno where's the time to rest? Now Im getting all the backaches. Formula seems so much easier... Sigh...

Do you have a lactation consultant to recommend? Wong Boh Boi is from TMC? If I don't deliver there, can she help? How are the charges like?

Im giving myself another week to try. After that, I must make a decision and end all those misery or I cannot enjoy motherhood. Yeah.. got to be realistic.

sotong mum: i know LC in private pratice charges $60-$100 per hour and they come to your place. I called up 2, cos i gave up hope on KKH's LC cos they are perpetually busy and lack human touch. ddinkz: My CL not only does not help with breastfeeding, she just wouldn't keep her mouth shut on FM. When she 1st help me to latch baby, she perpetually shove his head into my chest. i was so furious lor, cos he just recovered from the nursing strike and is still a bit cautious everytime he latches on.

For those who has babies difficulty latching on, try your best not to stress yourself, okie? You may want to try the following: Just let baby's mouth play with your nipples (when he is relax and not super hungry). Squeeze a little milk out so that it will not be so dry. Personally, i find the skin to skin contact very comforting, and it made me feel better as i know i'm "bonding" and trying my best in a way. Incidentally, after 3 such sessions, my boy started to nurse again.

Hi Candy

Yes, Mrs Wong is from TMC. I didn't deliver at TMC, I delivered at Mt A but I attended her classes, so I went back to look for her. Consultation cost me slightly over $100 but it's $80+ if you are a TMC patient.

She made me sit down and show her how to feed. They weighed the baby before feeding, and after one breast, and after another breast. Baby only got 30 ml after drinking 15 mins from each breast. Obviously not enough. When you say little yield, how little is it? I used to get only a few drops.

They have put me on this regime, every 3 hours I have to wear a supplementor (a bottle filled with formula with tubes taped to my boobs) and let baby latch on for 10 mins each side. After that I have to pump 5 mins, massage and then pump another 5 mins. So all in, each cycle takes about 30 mins including trying to burp baby.

Mrs Wong also mentioned that if latching, should be 10 mins one side, 10 mins another side, then offer 5 mins and 5 mins if baby is not satisfied.

But I can tell you even with this reduced time regime it is very difficult! Sometimes baby and I are out of sync. At night I let my CL feed her formula, since it is important for me to rest to restart my engine. But because of that, sometimes I am engorged and need to pump but baby is not hungry, or baby is hungry and I have just pumped. Tough lah.

If you want to see Mrs Wong, make the appt early. I had to wait one week for the appt.

Shugar: re pee, I read that if it's colour of apple juice, then may be dehydrated. Should be pale yellow.

Candy, I should mention that the fee included the fenugreek that they put me on. I'm on high dosage! 2 pills 3 times a day. The bottle says 1-2 pills a day. Good grief, every morning I pop 10 pills including all the other supplements I take.

Also, try to drink less water and more red date tea. Mrs Wong said drink water no use, no caloric value leh. I was so surprised. I don't really like drinking so much sweet drinks and sometimes just need water to quench thirst. But aiyah, after that consult, I try to drink more red date tea.
