HI dearie! Long time didn't login hor?
Josh grew up on a steady diet of commercial baby food, cos Hubs + ILs + my dad all told me it was too much trouble to DIY. Plus, the bugger has "exquisite" taste, so he won't even eat the same thing twice on the same day! Baby food jars gives us the variety without the hassle lor.
As for Kee, I will be making some simple purees if he isn't as "exquisite" as korkor.

My MIL told me last time, the parents of last generation try to faster feed porridge/rice so that the baby can drink less milk (cos mostly on FM so it's a separate cost). It's also more convenient when baby starts to eat so they can 1 shot cook for everyone.
In fact, she said my hubs stop drinking milk by the time he was 1 yr old. They change him to milo instead. Cheaper and "better".
It's probably the same reason why their entire family is like "commercial food also food, don't bother to make purees yourself lah". My MIL actually told me not to bother with purees at all. Just give porridge. (But ended up Josh hated porridge so he took rice that was softened with soup.)
And 4 day allergy rule?? WHAT RULE?? Just give and let them eat lah, at most lao sai a while lor. Used to it liao then ok already.
Seriously, last generation's methods are really very different from what we're supposed to do now...
