Aiya. some bb just don't like being naked and/or wet lor. And crying won't cause colic lah. It's colic that causes crying!
Why you eat so much sweets?! You don't want to lose weight is it??

Even if you give #2 EBM, you also have to pump mah! Pumping is more abusive than latching!!
At least, that's what i feel lah. My nipples tend to feel sore after pumping, but latching is ok.
Regardless, you are still damn awesome!!
 
My Gynae Update,

I had a hard time sleeping last night and this morning. When I "Officially" woke up and went to pee, I saw reddish brown on the sanitary pad. So I checked the toilet paper when wiped, It was also brownish red in color. I felt kinda sick. >.<

Lucky for me I had my appt today at 3pm so I went to consult my doc.

She did her checks, And she said it's fine. And guess what? She also said I will not be due YET! She says I can expect to be waiting till the 23rd this month! XD

If she was due on the 24th.. Share the same Birthday as my DH. LOL.

Now my DH is making me down 2 cups of milk everyday...

And I am actually thinking if I should rest more at home now... Because I have no idea why I am so active and BB still treating my womb like hotel >.<

She should be angry I didn't rest enough... X3

Am actually afraid my long hours on the salon floor will cause my pelvis to be weak and when I need to push or bear with the pain.. I am too weak to.

Hi everyone,

I just delivered Baby Amber on 4 Sept and have been popping in and out of this forum. This is my number 2 and No. 1 is now 22 months old. Hope to share and learn from all of you.

Noticed that a lot of you are going for full breastfeed. That's fantastic I think but I know not easy. With Joseph I gave up after 2 months from all sorts of problems. This time round better. Amber is nursing every 3 hours. I'm only BFing her from the right breast which she empties and then I express about 50-60ml from the left breast because of cracked nipple. Once that recovers, I hope to go into full breastfeed without having to express.

Amber is jaundiced too but I was told to sun her for 5-10 mins 3X a day. So far no need for intervention.

Woah, I'm amazed how often you can wake up! I find it so hard to wake up just twice at night even. I'm now going to sleep at 10, and wake up and 1am and 4am but sometimes oversleep until baby cries. :p And I'm too lazy to express at night so pyjamas all wet.

You're not the only second time BFing mum with problems. I had blisters too just 3 days after latching her. And right side was blocked etc. Sigh...

Hope you have a better day today. Dont stress out too much about how much breastmilk you are giving her. Last baby, I stressed myself out trying to put baby on full BF in the end got post-natal depression. I've realized there's nothing wrong with complementing both breastfeeding and formual. There is so much pressure around by books, and hostpitals and family etc to breastfeed that we tend to forget that as long as the baby gets some breastmilk, it is better than nothing, and if you have situations like inverted nipple that makes it hard for you to BF on both sides, then nothing wrong with supplementing. I think it's far worse to make yourself miserable. So this time round when my left nipple cracked, I supplemented with formula it recovered and I found myself a lot more relaxed and everything just naturally works out better. Chin up, girl!
 
Noticed a lot of mums worried about baby being hungry before their milk comes in and wanting to supplement with FM. I couldnt agree more with Shelled's post above. While it's hard to believe, your baby doesnt NEED any more than a few drops of colostrum the first few days. They might cry a lot and appear hungry but dont be too worried. My baby was cluster feeding on day 2 and cried non-stop for 7 hours and my nipples were so sore from latching her on so much. By day 3 , the milk came in and all was good. The only down side was one nipple got cracked from the frequent nursing but i'm now expressing from that side to keep the milk supply up. The only reason I gave FM to supplement while that nipple recovers is because i am not able to express enough to give baby enough as i dont have a pump. But with frequent expressing, the milk supply is still up and now back on full BF.

Just went for gynac check up yesterday. Baby is growing well but head is still very high. Anyway gynac said normally 2nd baby will not follow the normal procedure of getting head engage.

Yesterday was feeling ok but this morning, i feel nausea and stomachache. Now still feeling stomach abit cramp, on and off. Is this sign of contraction. Alamak, me still in office. maybe later if still got stomach ache i will go home and rest just in case.

Is your cracked nipple getting any better? Kudos to you for expressing by hand!
I've done it a few times cos pumping makes my nipple soreness worse. I think it's waaaay hard to aim my stream of BM into the bottle properly. Hurhurhur. I end up having BM on the table, chair, and quite a few other spots instead of just being INSIDE the darned bottle.

thanks for the welcome! think the last time i posted here was january, haha. gor gor is doing just fine. a bit more whiny and temperamental (and so, irritating!) than usual, but i know he loves his little sister. caught him giving her a spontaneous kiss yesterday. SHO SHWEET! makes me want to have a 3rd one! aiyoh! my PD is dr keoy from paediatric clinic. thanx for sharing what ur PD also said. phew! actually i'm quite glad dr keoy is quite chill about her jaundice. no intervention is best! and DN also doesn't like my EBM! hahahahaa...

not sure about gripe water's effectiveness. we gave our #1 that when he was much younger, but it didn't really help leh... :p

don't worry, u're not alone in the panda club. i joined 2 wks ago! x_x but u really are very good! i find it so tough to wake up to feed the baby, let alone pump. and i tried to give my #1 some EBM, but he took a sip and said he didn't like it! and i BF him for 1.5 yrs some more! oh well...

yes, i do use a warm towel to clean AND massage before feeding/pumping. i found it really helped soften the boob and loosen the milk ducts in the 1st 2 wks especially. now, it's more for cleaning. i don't get engorgement anymore.

my jamu lady told me just now that it will help if the BFg mother stops eating ginger and sesame oil, and the jaundice will go away. anyone tried this before, or is doing this? does it work?

Most probably not true. Because I skipped ginger through out my confinement (Cos i hate the taste), but my boy was still yellow yellow by full mth leh!

i set my routine to express my BF every 3hrs - and baby wake up every 2-3hrs for milk so i force myself to get up ----- tough actually but like what u sae watching them grow is a blessing and BF is the best gift we can give our child.

I went to polyclinic to get my baby girl's jaundice tested and on Monday as I thought cheaper than PD mah... it was 7.6 and they are super kiasu, they still say its above normal level, so need to do liver test, and they took ONE VIAL of blood!
poor girl was screaming her lungs out (so far never heard her cry so loud)! each leg prick and squeeze twice and the phlebotomist was like squeezing and squeezing until her heel is blue-black liaoz!

Next week must still go back and test...*sigh*

BREASTS &amp; BRAS
Is it advisable to wear nursing bra AT ALL TIMES? coz its so hot nowadays, I'm having rashes below breast..so tempted to be bra-less at home, esp at night...only need to endure leaky breast from time to time lah...

last nite &amp; tis early morning bb has been waking up every hourly or so juz to latch on. dunno if he's nt having enuf BM. finally gave in to FM tis morning. gave him 45ml but aft an hr he's hungry again n drank another 30ml! tink my BM is nt enuf to satify him. how??

I wash down my mooncakes with a BIG glass of milk! yum yum. Then not so sweet liao lor.
I cannot eat mooncakes without milk. I will feel... incomplete. It's like a habit since I was very little.
I just bought 6 mini snowskin mooncakes from my nearby bakery ytd. The chocolate mint flavor damn nice! Tastes like those hotel type one lor. But only $1.30! Muahahha. Still got OREO, durian, tiramisu flavors. Later I eat liao I give update!!

Of course you can choose not to wear bra lah. If its not uncomfy to be braless, and you are ok dealing with leakage, then by all means!
Sometimes I also feel like not wearing bra cos it's so warm lor, but I don't want my #1 to accident brush/squeeze/press against my tender nipples!
Sometimes he will GRAB my boobs as leverage to stand up from sitting position! So must protect my titties!!
 
mampoko> u must make sure ur bb open his mouth wide enugh to suck as much of de aerora as possible. for me, if i feel bb latch on wrongly, i'll definitely pull out n make him get it right. after torturing bb for 1wk+, he finally learn to latch properly.

now no more soreness or cracked nipples anymore.

if u seriously wanna give bm, pls try to stop ur fm. latch on as n when he wans to drink. u definitely have enugh milk supply for hi,

shelled - whenever i latch bb on, he suckles for less than 5mins then falls asleep. i tried stroking his cheeks n tickling his chest to wake him up (tmc nurse taught me tis last time) but to no avail. then when i put him down in cot he starts to stick out his tongue, lick his mitten n cries again.

rach - my mil n hubby oso keep saying bb still hungry feed him FM lah. oni my mum v encouraging, say muz keep letting bb latch on then milk will come. v pek chek when we trying to start our milkflow n ppl r nt supportive rite? gave hubby a gd scolding liao man.

oh no... a whole vial? poor thing. so painful!!! but gosh, 7.6 is so low compared to my bb's - 18.1! and PD said no need to do anything! btw, have u heard of lilypadz? they might be ideal for u. it's like a sticky breastpad made of silicon that stops small leaks (not big ones!) and u don't have to wear a bra. u just stick it over ur boob. it's retailing at robinsons for about $40+ a pair, or u can buy direct from the states (what i did) which is much cheaper. and yeah, it sounds like a growth spurt alright! growth spurts are supposed to happen around 7 days, 3 wks, 6 wks and 9wks, if i remember right.

yes yes! just grit ur teeth and REN! i too, gritted my teeth, stamped my feet and (almost) banged my head against the wall during the 1st wk of BFg. but what to do? tahan lor. otherwise it will take even LONGER for the nipples to get used to the "abuse". u can do it! and michelle is right. don't give FM even though it's so tempting, just latch. that will def boost your milk supply! if u find that he's wanting to latch on more than usual, it could be a growth spurt. is he abt a wk old? and don't listen to those who say u don't have enough milk. RUBBISH! the first few days, i overheard my CL and MIL pass comments like that but i just walk away. now i have a little stash of extra frozen BM in the freezer, they have NOTHING to say. HA!

I was trying to get the moms here to join my lilypadz spree last time cos it's so much cheaper to buy from the states lah, but no one was keen lor.
But I feel there is a downside to lilypadz. If you are sweaty (like me), the lilypadz don't last as long cos once the stickiness is reduced after washing, they pop off your skin when you sweat!
My last pair lasted about 6 mths only. And I didn't even wear it everyday lo.

BUT hor... my breast leaks like a TAP! T-shirt can be super wet one leh! at night leak until bedsheet all wet!

I think polyclinic is a bit more kiasu....coz when i went to my PD, her jaundice at day 6 was 13.1 and he said ok, just go sun her, then at day 11, i went to polyclinic (coz PD said monitor her skin, if not yellow no need to come back, but hubby worried so went to nearly polyclinic), her jaundice was 9.4 and the young doc there ask me to bring her back on day 15 (monday) for another blood test...and it was 7.6, so ask to do liver test coz according to her normal should be below 6

maybe u can try going braless 50% of the time instead of 100%? like immed after feeding when it's unlikely u'll leak? at least ur skin will have time to breathe for a bit.

I also don't eat anything cooked with ginger, very little sesame oil, most of the time no sesame oil, no tomatoes, no carrot, nothing yellow...but baby still have jaundice

Hi all,

I'm finally able to surf the net! Been exhausted with bb and phone calls from relatives and colleagues..

Think labour was a breeze since it's my 4th. Went to hospital on 12 Sep as there was a show and cramps were bad. Reached ard 11.30am after 2nd breakfast. Dilation was 4cm. Waterbag was burst near 1pm. Contractions came near 2.30pm. When dilation was abt 8cm, midwife told me bb was ready to pop. Started pushing ard 3.15pm and bb was born slightly before 3.30pm.

Quite happy to latch bb on the minute she was out. She was wide awake, staring at all in the labour ward. Total BF is not much of a problem. She's up practically every other hour, more frequent at night than day. Other than exhaustion, I'm glad I can roam around since Day 2. Going to BF again. Darling's up again and wailing!
Congrats to those who have popped since my 'disappearance' last Friday.

its with much reluctance and no choice that i had to do it for that few days...
but now that supply is in... i'm glad to be TBF her whole day..
last nte 1 hour interval....sooo tired..
dragging my eyes open.. hahaha....fell asleep a few times.
but its all worth it...even though CL and mum will say why make my life so difficult??
never rest and build back my own body etc etc... but who cares abt them..wahahha...

feed depends...i let het latch till she spits out... or fall asleep.... i used to burp her after every feed but after burping shes wide awake...
then wanna latch again....
so i sometmes put her to sleep .... and it seemed to work...
but HB will give her a good burping session every nite for 15-30min b4 she sleep....
coz her tummy ver bloated... PD was teaching us how to burp correctly...

if u are in my case, then u can really latch on as many times as possible and then at every hour even....
thats what i did yest... i made myself latch her on every feed...and there's no way my CL or mum can say she not having enough....
Coz whenever she wants.. i have milk to give her....
if its hard..u may want to latch on more... or u may wanna pump out..
massage hard and painful to clear the blockage..then pump...then switch sides.at least it works for me... i pump..switch... pump switch..
and each time i switch back... there's still milk coming out...
but if i continuous pump..its just air..even if i pump extra 5-10min..still nothing..
but u gotta try and see what works best for u..
i'm just sharin MY own experience..may not apply to everyone..
supply just picked up and girl is satisfied...so i'm satisfied too..
just need more rest..and drink more water also.. hehehe.. :p

yah.. told my hb need his support also... and he is very supportive....slolw la... just in our 1st 2 weeks... some of my frens take 6 weeks to succeed in TBF..
so dun give ourselves unnecessary stress which wont help us at all..
good if we have it earlier else take it easy &amp; relax..

Sorry for being away for so long... and sorry if i've missed anything. Had a 2nd episode in the hospital last friday night. Haiz... all should be better now (i hope)...

Please do not worry so much abt ur milk supply in the initial stage. It will come in de. Mine came in on the 4th or 5th day.. (mind u... i dun even have colostrum in the beginning hor...) at a mere 5-10 ml on both sides ont da 4th/5th day nia.. In order to increase my supply, i pumped diligently on both sides every 2-3 hours even aft latching my gal. Was amazed to see how the milk supply increase with every pump. (Fyi...I'm only using the Pigeon Silent Electric pump, not those hospital grade ones that have been recommended here) Its Day 11 today.. The highest i can yield on both sides even aft latching my bb is ard 300ml. Sounds like a mother cow, i know.. hurhur...

My princess is now drinking ard 90ml every 2-3 hours.. hence unable to empty my breasts. so pump lo. Daddy will feed her EBM when he takes the night shift.

So to All u mummies who have or have yet to pop... JIAYOU!!!

Thanks so much for helping me out with the updating of the list for so long. I'm still not in the condition to be online upddating so frequently. Hb will KPKB cos I have been really weak since the 2nd episode i had in the hospital. Had to do an emergency evacuation of my uterus. Currently still on medication to stop the bleeding.

Do let me know if ur too bz to cont' the updating. I tink we can stop for now? I hope the rest of the mummies wont mind?

the reason why u can see me online is cos hb is out doing bb's birth cert n to settle the baby bonus thingy.. hurhur.. me "toutou" come in..

u dun scare me hor! u mean 2-3 hourly even after u latch baby u still get 300ml??? whoa! u record holder leh, how u do it? means every 2-3 hrs ur breasts contains half litre of milk? wah then ur breasts must have weighed a tonne! LOL
 
rach - tks for ur tips! so feeding at every 1hr interval is normal? aiyo..i thot bb juz wanna latch on to sleep n nt coz he was hungry.

last nite i oso changed diaper after every feed coz bb poo-ed. is it normal? bb tends to be awake more at nite than in the day. like now, he's still fast asleep after i latched him on for 15mins on 1 side abt 1.5hrs ago. before i cud latch him on the other side he was already asleep n refused to open his mouth.

The cracked nipple has healed now and I'm back to latching both sides now. Still a bit sore from time to time but not unbearable anymore. I really pei4fu2 the mothers who latch despite cracked and bleeding nipples. So painful!!!I cant take it man.

When my #1 had jaundice last time, my dr asked me to lay off ginger but not sesame oil.

I was just going to ask the mummies here, how do you prevent milk leakage at night? During the day, I wear nursing bra plus the Avent breastshells to collect leaking milk. But at night, I dont wear bra because too uncomfortable. But then always end up with wet pyjamas, so sticky and uncomfortable. But dont know what to do? My stupid pigeon nursing pads are useless because if I stick them to pyjamas, they shift around. How??
 
Joon / Shelled, what do the Lilypadz look like? Thinking of buying because sick of leaky boobs. Do they just stick onto your boobs? What if you have sore nipples, can you still stick them on?

Anyone can recommend a baby sarong sling that is not too difficult to use and can be used to hold the baby handsfree, and also for nursing discreetly in public please?

thank you. Labour's really short this time round. Think I only pushed about 4 times and bb popped.
Think most are so worried about BF and leaking milk. I'd say the leaking milk is good for helping to heal cracked and sore nipples. I used to leave the leakage on my nipples and air them for a while before I put on my bra again. It still works now.

Hi all,

Haven't been here for awhile. I popped earlier than expected. EDD was 22 Sept but popped on 28 Aug. Was v encouraged by all your posting. My journey on BF was not easy too. Milk supply was low then managed to go more than 100 ml but drops again. Sigh!

hurhur.. the 2-3 hour pumping was in the intial stage to boost my milk supply.. now, me pumping like every 4-6 hours la.. so getting abt 300 ml even aft latching my gal.. heez..

yea.. feels so heavy n hard everytime... must pump then can slp.. that night at the hospital.. i got nothing lo.. i leak like crazy lo.. got a bath towel from the nurse n it was wet in the mornin.. whole night cannot slp cos too engorged liao.. no bb to latch, no breast pump.. haiz.. </font>
