Out of curiosity, does your mom subscribe to the practice of not bathing/showering during confinement? Cos if she feels that baby dont' bathe will be smelly, then mommy don't bathe is even more smelly right?

Thanks will try what u suggest. I find nipples more sore when i used the cradle hold. Football & laying down was ok for me. haha

Another thing is , bb poos often, but i not sure she got urine or not. How do i know or see if she urinates. Cause her diapers not wet leh, i think....Not as often as she poos

Need advice on feeding . I'm latching onto bb every 3hrs. Is this correct ? Whenever i woke her up she will feed lah. I did not wait for her to cry for milk. Sometimes, she will be awake before feeding time and if she crieds will feed her.

I do this cos the first 2 days Nat cries even though i latched on for 2hrs on the breast. She like didn't have enough. End up we top up with FM. I don't want to top up with FM, so i feed her on 3hrs interval. This also leads me to pump out but now all the EBM got to throw cos i mixed them at different temp. Sorry for being long winded. Thanks again for your advice

What do you do when you know that your baby is a lil jaundiced? The doctor mentioned it might happen cos I'm not the same blood type as my baby

. Was told to give some water and breast feed more but it's not helping, I know the sun is suppose to help, how often and for how long? I need the sun to come up!!

Should I go to a polyclinic nearby or try and get an appt with the ped?

For me, I didn't do anything. I was supposed to suntan my boy but there wasn't any sun for a few days. His jaundice level just went down by the time he was 7 days old.

Didn't your gynae assign a pd for your bb?

Suntanning can only be morning sun and for abt 15 mins. Must cover your bb's eyes.

I can't imagine showering at least once a day, just not at night. I was soooo happy with my shower at the hospital, I was up and about by 1pm (slowly of course), my baby was born at 7.50am.

can ask your husband to take his time. i am not in a hurry to read the book, cos i still have a couple of new books queuing up at home for my boy to start, hehee. if he's not too busy caring for you and baby, then he can drop it off at blk 202, #15-102. can address it to "wong kaizer" --> that's my boy's name.

i make it a point to bathe twice to trice a day during the first month after giving birth. doesn't mean bo chap lah, but stay clean and smell nice = stay sane. otherwise, take care of bb by yourself and smell/feel horrid can really cause postnatal depression!

bf issues - it so hard.. i'm getting lazy to latch on juz keep pumping!! feel so exhausted need to rest more b4 i can re-latch again

haizzzz....now my gal hardly poo.. average once a day or 1.5 day once poo... haizzz how to bring down her jaudice!!! but urine alot!!!

so confusing... even though it no 2 yet so much diff from no 1... no 1 got colic issue no 2 don't have... total opp problems = become a first time mummy again!!!

i getting crazy .. yet still got the guts to think of no 3......

im still waiting for my turn... my edd is this thurs.. stress... tmr's my last chk-up.. doc advised me to chk in on wed, 9 sept if aft tmr there is still no news.. im stressed... bb's not moving much now though still hit abt 10 times betw, 9am to 9pm... really not enuff space to move.. but still no signs of contractions and waterbag leakage/ bloody show or whatever... argh.... stress...

ebm> how to store huh? not sure if i doing the right thing. i juz expressed out. den becos de sterilised storage bottle is hot, i din store immediately. i kept de expressed milk from 2bottles of the pump (left n right) n kept in refrigerator. after de storage bottle cooled down in de steriliser, i took out n pour de milk from de fridge into de storage bottle n store immediately in de freezer compartment. like tat de milk can last 4mths?

went to see gynae today, think #2 is happily swimming inside my tummy, it is time for him to come out liao. i'm going to be admitted into TMC tomorrow for induced labour, gynae told me to go earlier to "chop seat" so can give birth on 090909

oh ya, after breast feeding did you play with your bb or put bb to bed & sleep straight?

Bathing of bb shld we bath bb after breastfeedin session or before breast feedin or wake bb up while he asleep to bath bb?

To answer your questions:

WHY ALL MUMMIES has start pumping BM?
> For me, I pump in the early weeks so can further empty my breasts. The emptier it is, the faster your body will produce milk. And second reason is so that my hubby can get involve in feeding baby.

> Depending on baby (and your luck?). My baby is not confused at all. We bottle feed her when my hubby wants to fulfill his daddy role, or when I am too lazy/tired to get up. Most of the time, I still latch, cos easier mah, just lift up the shirt and that's it :- )

3. I duno when shld i start to bottle feed cum BF?
> Whenever you feel like building up your supply by introducing pumping. But then again, there are mummies who do exclusive latch on and their supply is also ok. Really depending on invididual.

4. I back to work in mid nov 09 though.
> If you plan to give baby expressed BM after you go back to work, usually they will recommened to start storing BM 1 month before you go back to work. I am also going back to work in Nov. Why you don't have 4 months ML?

My baby usually sleeps after feeding. If she is not, I just carry her and talk to her for a little while.

I prefer to bath baby after feeding, cos she could be very angry and wail if she is hungry while bathing her.

If your bb is poo-ing often, most definitely means that she's having enough intake. Feel the weight of a clean diaper, then feel the weight of the diaper when it's dirty. If it's a lot heavier means got pee pee inside!

Pump until you empty out your breast lor. If trying to up supply, then pump another 10 mins after breast is emptied.

If you want restock your EBM, you'll have to put in a bit of extra effort lah. You can try the following:
- pumping 1 side while latching Natalie on the other side. This also means you will need to feed her every 2hrs or so, instead of the current 3hrs. Because she's currently feeding on both breasts each time, right?
Eg: latch left side, pump right side @ 12pm / latch right side, pump left side @ 2pm / latch left side, pump right side @ 4pm. Repeat for 24-48 hrs.

- continue to latch her on every 3hrs, then pump in between feeds.
Eg: latch onto both breasts @ 12pm, pump both breasts @ 1.30pm, latch onto both breasts @ 3pm. Repeat for 24-48hrs.

It should up your supply within 1-2 days. Then 1 breast would be able to fill her up for 3hrs, while you can pump the other breast. Then you can go back to 3-hourly feed/pump already. If you have any more qns, can call/sms me @ 8201 9021.

No hor! I'm very lazy! I only wipe down bb's body until cord dropped off. So far I only bathed Keegan 3 times only!

Either cos I was too tired, or busy, then when I got free to bath him, RAINING LAH! Last thing I want is a sick kid during this period, so I'm not running the risk.

This is the reason why latching bb on directly is better lor. No wastage! Can keep the EBM in the warmer for up to 2 hours. But this varies according to the room temperature, and the warmer you are using. If you're worried that it may be spoiled, check if got "fishy smell" or not. If u don't mind, can even put a few drops on your hand and taste for any fishy or sour taste. The best way to check is to try it for yourself lor.

Re: Expressing/storing BM

I would just like to bring up a point hor... While all the mommies who have been pumping have put in a lot of effort into increasing their supply and storing EBM for their little ones, do note that the constitution of BM changes every few weeks.

The BM that you pump out and store when bb is 2 weeks old, may not be able to fit bb's nutritional needs if you feed bb that bottle of EBM when bb is 6 wks old.

This is because BM is constantly changing to suit bb's growing needs. So EBM stored when bb is 2wks old will not be able to make bb as full/happy as fresh BM as the fresh BM is 100% suited for his/her current stage of development. Imagine if 2 mth old bb drinking EBM that mostly consists colostrum, bb won't feel full at all!

If possible, latch bb on as much as you can. BB feeds average 8-12 times a day, so try not to bottle-feed more than 2-3 times each day. Nipple confusion is 1 thing, latching on to stimulate supply, clear engorgement, remove blocked ducts & foster bonding is another thing.

Best thing is to ask CL/hubby/MIL/whoever to bottle-feed bb with EBM at night, so you can sleep/rest properly thru the night. Then during daytime, latch bb all the time lor.

I hope no one finds this post offensive, as it is not my intention. But when it comes to BFing, I'm sure most of you will agree with me that starting out correctly in the first place prevents and reduces a lot of possible problems down the road.

like i said, don't worry lah. pass to me in october or november also can. just concentrate on your taking care of your baby. my number #1 had very high jaundice when he was 7 days old. so between 3-7 days old we ran to and fro appointments, before finally admitting him for a day of phototheraphy. hope all is well with your little one =)

Argh!! My sofa drank my EBM!!

I pumped 1 side while I latch K on the other side. Then after feed, he unlatch & poop, so I brought him for diaper change and left my pump standing upright on the sofa. Dunno how, but it dropped onto its side and my EBM leak out! Got 1 big wet patch on my sofa! My 50+ml of EBM leak until only left 20ml!!

The bottle is screwed on tightly to the pump leh. And it didn't leak from the "cup" of the pump. How did it leak?!?! Argh!! Unless the bottle got crack?! Crack also won't leak out 30ml so fast leh! I press my sofa seat, got milk come out... Machiam sponge like that.

Hi all, just back from my gynac check yesterday. Was given antiobotic and citravescent sachet. Gynac said urine got protein.

At 37week, BB is ~2.7kg. Was asking gynac if i will give birth early anot, he said most probably no cos baby head still floating high although head down already. He said he might consider inducing me at 39week if i really cannot tahan already.
But i forgot to ask him how to induce. Any one can share the process of inducing, is it break water bag or what?

sterilising pumps n bottles> after sterilising, de pumps n bottles are very wet. do u clean them dry or pump into them direct? cos if dun clean bottles, dey are so wet, will de milk n water mix tgt spoil de milk? but if we clean, den y sterilise? tissues not very sterilised rite? howhowhow?

jaundice> u think it's better for me to get bb checked for jaundice at polyclinic or his doc's clinic? doc's clinic at mt a. abit far plus shuld b much more costly?

flower4> i pump up cos of engorgement, even though bb feeds on once every 2-3hrs in de day n 3-4hrs in de nite. i not intending to bottle feed bb yet. juz bf. so usually i will only pump out after he have latch on n i feel tat there's still engorgement. so after pumping, i usually store dem in freezer, even though the amt is very little. but becos i got quite abit of storage bottles. so i decided to store dem in freezer. den when we go out on wkend or when i go back to wk in dec, can let bb drink those when he goes to my dad's hm.

the glass caps at mt a seems cheaper. hubby bought 2pack for less den 16bucks. each pack dunno got 10 or 12. usually bb falls asleep while bf. so i juz let him continue sleeping. when he wakes up, i dun bf him immediately. i play with him to wake him up, unless he is super hungry n keeps crying, den i latch him on immediately. i saw in mt a video dat it's good to bathe bb before bf to keep him awake. bathing him after bf will make him vomit out his milk.

Expressing EBM

FTWM - my advise to you is to start expressing early & store your EBM. It would come in really handy when you return to workforce. Yr supply will deftinaetly dipped when back to work as dun hv the luxury of latching BB for @ least 8hrs like SAHM UNLESS yr boss is so gd to let you express on 3hrly interval.

This is when yr forzen EBM will comes in handy. To counter the changing nutrient, I will usually give BB a mixture of freshly chilled EBM/frozen EBM.

What I do is to remove the bottles/pump parts immediately after sterilizing, put it in a container & store in the fridge. It will not have any more water droplets & helps to chill e freshly pump EBM
