No la bcos last time i used to go Jantzen at Bt Batok (Westmall) the hairdresser also shared the same name as yours. so curious ask lor. later on she also own a salon herself at Bt batok HDB shop which i went once only

i'm quite shocked that the antenatal class advised against breastfeeding on demand. breastfeeding on demand is a must if you want to establish (and maintain) a good supply of BM. you should regulate your supply of BM according to your baby's needs instead of getting your baby to drink to a pre-determined schedule like fixed 2 or 3 hour intervals. your baby will usually drink best if he/she is hungry. no point getting yourself all stressed up from constantly following a clock, and then feeling worried when baby don't drink well during your pre-determined drinking timings.

technically, babies who are totally breastfed within the first six months of their life do not need to be fed any water at all during these first six months. that said, there's nothing wrong if parents still want to feed water. i guess it's just a matter of choice.

i can only think of two scenarios where your nipples will experience soreness. first scenario is when you latch using a wrong technique, nothing to do with how frequent you feed the baby. so you can be latching on up to 12 times in a day (which is what i did when #1 was in his first month) but not get any sore nipples at all. second scenario is when you choose not to latch on but express your milk using a pump too many times in a day.

i have sorta educated my #1 to believe that breastmilk's only suitable for babies. and that big boys drink their milk with a straw/cup. took a very very very long time to convince him, but he understands now. recently, been preparing him that i'll have to stay in the hospital for two days when the bb arrives.

Gina... so u can stagger your maternity leave? my reporting officer didn't approve, so in the end i take leave starting this week although EDD is early Sep, so as to minimise "loss". she actually asked me to work this week as one colleague went for reservist, she asked me "to try my best". very funny, how to "try my best" not to pop?! i don't care and told her that gynae asked me to rest

no prob! you can get the maternity ward nurses or lactation consultant to help you latch on correctly after delivery. if you're not sure that you're doing it correctly, then try to extend your hospital stay by one more day to make sure everything is done right before going home.

I have actually packed some stuff in my bag ( Actually took it out of the car to check if I missed anything out >.< )

Is it more practical to bring a button shirt so that it'll be easier to BF?

TMC website said that they provide these for BB:-

• baby vests
• disposable diapers
• toiletries
• a baby bag
• wrapping blanket
• a pair of mittens

So I don't need to bring these? What is chargeable?

I brought a shirt for BB and a pair of socks. Did I miss out anything?

For myself I brought :-

• 5 disposable panties
• 2 nursing bras
• Some toiletries
• Clothes for going home
• Photocopy of Marriage Cert
• Receipts from Doc visits
• Mat ( In case I stain the bed? )
• Plastic bag for soiled clothes
• Disposable breast pads

Yet to put in Bag :-

• HP Charger
• DS & charger
• Other toiletries

Jul is damn busy lah. Our sms conversation take very long to reply one. She sms me ytd morn 7+, I reply in the afternoon 3+, then she reply again this morn 7+. Hahaha. She is doing "great" now (said with a strong hint of sarcasm from her).

Pamelia / Re: BF on demand
Feeding on demand is actually good in a way. But super tiring for the mom! Because all kids go thru certain periods of growth spurts when they will suddenly eat alot. So if you insist to BF on schedule, it will affect their growth spurt and make them cranky lil monsters cos they're constantly hungry and you won't feed them.

I only feed on demand to get a grasp of the kid's pattern, then I'll slowly adjust it to a schedule that works for both of us. Personally I like 3-hourly feed lah. And I like to fix it to 3pm, 6pm, 9pm, cos easy to remember mah.

With J he was a natural 3-hourly feeder, I just had to adjust the timing to my preferred hours. Cos after 9pm feed, then i can spend time with Hubs, cos he'll be home by then. Then after 12mn feed, I would go to bed. 3am pull J to bed to BF while I continue to sleep. Then 6am can wake up nicely to see sunrise.

Regarding pumping to empty the breast, there are many schools of thought on it. But personally I subscribe to the basic rule that latch on = demand = supply, so I will plainly let my kid BF on 1 breast, empty it out if possible, before moving on to the next breast. K wasn't able to empty out anything until today, and I also didn't bother with pumping just to empty it. Ok lah, I admit it's a tad uncomfy to have swollen boobs, but it was only for 2 days, then today not engorged liao. Much better than if you over-pump on top of latching on, then end up stimulating too much supply, then you'll be engorged for a really long time. I stupidly did that when I had J, so this time I'm not making the same mistake.

No one said BF was easy wor. 万事起头难 mah. BY the time bb turn 1 mth old, BF will become such a breeze that it becomes 2nd nature.

No lah. Those children's milk good meh. I always feel like it's purposely made to target little children and make parents waste $$. Not to mention packet drinks can get very messy! We just buy normal Magnolia fresh milk (not the low fat version, cos kids need fat) then everyone can share lor. No need to be so special one lah.

I think for my #1's case, it's cos he felt he was "grown up" when he started eating solids with bowl and spoon like us. So he naturally associated BF with babies. I guess it also helps that our kids don't see toddlers being BF-ed, so it's easier to convince them that BF is for babies. Were you trying to wean him off back then? How old is he now?

We also had to prepare J for when we go hospital to give birth. We purposely passed by the hospital, showed him that we'll be coming here to "take didi out", and that Ah Ma/Ah Gong will watch him when we're at hosp. It helps that he enjoys spending time with MIL, so it was somewhat exciting for him when we finally passed his bag of barang-barang to MIL, and told him that we're going to take didi out liao. But he still looked quite blur when he finally saw didi and I still had a tummy. 1st day @ the hosp, we ask him "Where is didi?" and he still pointed to my tummy!

Now my tummy is much smaller, he has finally come to accept that didi has come out from my tummy in some miraculous way.

I ordered from New Baby. Used them when I had #1, and using them again now. The food is very decent, but I always felt that the price is steep. But all the caterers also around the same price leh. At least with New Baby I can request for less ginger and they actually do it for me.

You actually don't have to bring anything at all for bb. Oh, you might want to bring your own swaddling blanket for bb though. TMC uses a new one now, and it's so tiny cannot swaddle bb properly! Jul was complaining about it when she visited me on the day she discharged. And I also felt it's quite sucky. So small how to swaddle?!

My silly K got upside down timing! Daytime can never stay awake for more than 5 minutes, then after 3am he will stay awake nonstop! Tmr onwards I will have to adjust his timing back to daytime liao. Now I just waiting for 6am to come so I can BF him then go to sleep.

Spent the last 2 hrs trying to get him to go back to sleep but he just won't. Now gong gong lie there stare at ceiling he also shiok. I refuse to talk/play with him at night so he won't think night-time really is time to play.

I have to adjust him back to daytime before Hubs go back to work, otherwise I orh bak kak cos J up in the day, and K up in the night.

Adjust feeding schedule liao, now have to adjust sleeping schedule... Now I just hope when 7th mth really start, it won't affect the boys' sleep. *sigh*
