mama to 6js, yeah, he is there to work.

I also bought a car seat for my 1st boy last time. But i think i bought it too late. I got the car seat when he is about 8mth plus. He never like to sit in it. When he is 1 year plus i kept the car seat in my store(abit sayang).

Guess i have to let my 2nd one try on the car seat earlier this time round.

Hi mummies,

Im from Jan thread. Just wondering if any mummies here is interested to get ice-cube tray with lids (from JAPAN) for freezing cooked baby food.

For me, I find it easier to use the ice-cube tray with lid (It's definitely much more hygienic with a lid!), as compared to baby cubes. Because when baby start weaning, they dont eat alot, only small amounts, and the ice-cube size is just right I find. U can freeze small amount in the baby cubes too but I read a few books that recommend ice-cube tray to baby cubes cause it's not that good leaving a lot of air space in the cube which will encourage bacteria growth. Also i find it much easier to just twist and pop out the amount of frozen cubes that I need to prepare for my baby's feed and just keep back the rest in the freezer.

Im nothing against baby cubes. I actually bought 1 set myself but will only use it when my baby's appetite is huge enough, which I think is about 1yr old.

The reason i would like to share with mummies here is becoz I want get this very good quality ice-cube tray with lid, which is made in Japan. It's material is safe and good such that you can sterilise it, which I think some mummies will like it. It cost just $6.50 per tray but I need to gather enough orders to attain 100pcs for this price. My cousin will help bring in to S'pore direct from Japan so that I can avoid the shipping charges etc. hehe.

Im not selling anything here, hope you dont get me wrong. Just looking for mummies who would like to share order with me.

So If any mummies here would like to share this order with me, please PM me soon cause my cousin is flying in next week.

Many thanks for reading my post

Re: Infant car seat

I agree with some mommies here that you have to make it a habit to let bb sit in carseat from young so they get used to being strapped down when in the car. Otherwise once they get a bit older and more fidgety, they won't sit still in it if it's newly introduced.

For those carseats that can work for infants to toddlers, I think they are at least $300. But I feel it's a worthy investment considering it's got a lot more mileage than buying 1 infant carseat, then later buy another toddler version. Also, I think kids can get accustomed to it better since it's the same carseat. Lower chance of rejection.

Bought the Medela Freestyle BP for 800+ so not going to look! Grrr

In any case, anyone has advice for strollers?

Gerald

I've always preferred COMBI for their affordable prices and portability. The one we got for my #1 was less than $300 and weighs only 4kg.

We don't own a car – we use the NTUC carsharing service – so the times when we don't drive, the lightweight factor makes it much easier for us to manuveur the stroller around, fold it up, and pop it into the boot of a taxi.

1lady3men · Jun 2, 2009

Hi Mummies,

I have some BN and rarely used wide neck BPA free bottles for sales. Pls PM me for more details.

Thank you

Thanks for the note. I'm also considering the Combi (either MT or Ricco W). Downsides are the colour, the lowness of the seat (meaning I'll be bending over all the time), and the flimsy feel of the stroller worries me.

It's a headache for me since I'll be around only half the time, leaving the kid and the car to the wife. That makes Combi the most fabourable to her sadly.

shelled · Jun 3, 2009

Gerald

My hubs also decided on COMBI because I'm the person who uses it the most. The lightweight really was a lifesaver in the early months. I'd put the baby in a sling, and carry the stroller on my shoulder until I got a taxi. Then single-handedly load it into the boot. I don't think that would have been possible if it was the heavier strollers like Quinny.

COMBI strollers may FEEL filmsy, but it's really quite sturdy, so don't worry too much about that.

And about bending over, if your baby is the type who's happy to sit in there and watch the world go by, you'd hardly need to pick him up!

As for the color... Hahaha I have to agree with you. The colors can be somewhat dowdy. The one we have is a grey and red, which is the most acceptable combo that they had at that time.

new_mtb · Jun 3, 2009

Combi is indeed very lightweight and good for travelling on public transport.

However, I've seen my friend's Combi stroller topple backwards before. Thank God there was no baby in the stroller, else the poor baby's neck sure snap one. It was so scary!

My hubby and I usually drive around so we got a heavier one that's more sturdy, about 7-8kg. We were deciding between Peg Perego Pilko P3 and Capella S705. After testing both out, we decided to get Peg Perego cos it's definitely better made. It's designed and made in Italy compared to Capella which is designed in Korea and made in China. The quality is also very different.

And besides that, if the Lord blesses, my hubby and I hope to have a 2nd child in about 1-2 years time. The Peg Perego one has a standing platform behind that the older child can stand on.

But, do take note, the Peg Perego one requires 2 hands to close. So if you're going around alone, you'll prob need to sling your baby before closing the stroller.

dlareg80 · Jun 3, 2009

wat! It toppled over?!?

sigh... see la! In any case, I'm going to play around on Fri evening. Bringing a 10kg backpack to load the strollers and see how they fare.

Thanks for the advice everyone!

jul_04 · Jun 3, 2009

So busy *sigh* Only have time to quickly browse thru the posts.

Car Seat

Thanks for ur comments on the car seat. Anyway my thinking is to get an infant car seat to 'supplement' the child car seat that my SIL gave me. Hoping that it will be cheaper than buying those convertible ones, which I agree is better value for $$ but I dun really need one, b/c I already have a car seat! Argh. the downside of hand me downs.

I gather Britax, Safety 1st etc are good brand sof the convertibles? What abt for infant car seat? Any recommednations & price estimates?

shelled · Jun 3, 2009

New MTB

My COMBI also topple backwards when I take my boy out. Cos I hang too much stuff around the handles! Was that the case for your friend as well?

What I realise is that as long as the kid is inside the stroller, there is almost no chance of toppling backwards. Because as Gerald has mentioned, COMBI seats tend to be lower, therefore lower CG which ensures the stroller stays upright as long as we don't weigh the stroller down too much by hanging diaper/shopping bags...

Gerald

That's a good plan. Must play around with them before buying, make sure it works for you. Some of the strollers I want to get, I give up after playing with it cos they're so cumbersome!

Have been kinda caught up w other hsehold stuff so not much chance to post

I totally agree with new_mtb bout Peg Perego. I've a P3 which I purchase in 2006 for my #1 & it's still working great. In fact, it's still serving us so well tt my DH is v reluctant to let me change new pram

NVM, will continue to "nag" for my Phil&teds vibe till he give in. Now my DD will stand on e platform when she's tired of walking while my DS sits in e pram. My angels have comfortably slept in it when needed.

It's really v sturdy, we've personally tested it by using it to ferry a 29" TV from my MIL's hse to my hse which is about 8 mins walk away. *hee*

I also love the generous storage space underneath. It also serves well as my shopping basket

e only downside is u need 2 hands to close.. but it's nt really tt bad as I've done it pretty often. I used to either sling my DD or jus prop her on e car seat & close e pram when I travel alone w her in e past.

And it's not exactly v lightweight so it's kinda difficult carry it onto e bus if u r alone unless u close it & sling yr BB

mummies,
woah, happy to see the discussion on car seats. my husband is thinking of getting a car this month (because of some childcare arrangements for my #1). we'll have to get a car seat for both #1 and #2 thereafter ... i saw a lot of car seats at the vivocity mothercare. will prob go back to that outlet to purchase the seats when the car has arrived. anyone knows if mothercare is having discounts during the GSS?

chellechelle · Jun 3, 2009

RE: Prenatal massage

Rach smsed me to help her post this massage lady's details.

Mdm Noor - 90048804
$50 for 2 hrs
She will go to your hse if its in the NORTH area. (Yishun ok, AMK is probably the furthest south she will go.)

Kindly SMS her first as she will not pick up calls when she is doing massage for ppl.

jul_04 · Jun 3, 2009

Hello gals!

Busy.. & a bit irritated with work *sigh*

shelled · Jun 3, 2009

I just got an email from Motherhood with some of the deals advertised: http://www.motherhood.com.sg/sub/mhex2009/wed.html

Hope this helps!

I noticed some items (like the Palmax stroller) won't be available for sale until 7th, so for mommies who want to go down tmr, might have to go back again on Sunday!

hanabiwaiwai · Jun 3, 2009

went for gynae appt yesterday, now baby is 836g, but i've gained 8 kg liao... hmmm seem most of weight goes to myself

i'm going to Japan in mid-June, and i asked gynae abt effect of Tamiflu... dunno is it because he just doesn't want me to worry too much, he said H1N1 seems to be mild, and said that should not affect baby much. he also comment that there is no evidence about effects of Tamiflu on pregnant ladies at this moment.

anyway i'm going to wear N95 mask on plane and at airport even no one else wears, just to play safe

blessedmommy · Jun 3, 2009

waiwai
actually we dun have to worry too much lah. ur gynae is right, this h1n1 seems to be mild. i think cos we r preg now thats why we more paranoid hor? just treat it as normal flu lor. why the authorities r so fearful of this h1n1 cos its a new strain they never seen b4. i will also be bringing my mask but will only wear if i hear ppl coughing non stop on the plane. somehow i still feel weird wearing a mask when nobody else wearing! also not forgettg wearg that n95 v stuffy, i can hardly breathe! lets just keep one another in prayer, im sure we will all be fine

JUL
who is iritating u har??

jul_04 · Jun 3, 2009

shelled

Thanks for the link. What's Landom EQ Dry & Landom Sumo Sealer ah?

waiwai

Oh I was in Japan a mth or so ago, when they discovered the first case in Yokohama. But on the whole, Japs are more civic minded than over here. They wear masks! Not like here, when pple can just cough in your face!

mamato6

The big boss lor. And the work I'm doing itself too. So busy, so much to do. I can feel the stress getting to poor Babylet *sigh*

flower4 · Jun 3, 2009

oops, mamato6,

who ah... oh no my memory very jialuck..

mummies, can help me regarding cordyceps?

shelled · Jun 3, 2009

Jul

They're diapers lah, my dear.

Today mid-week already, JIAYOU! Weekend coming soon, ok?

flower4

I also have no idea about the cordyceps. Like mamato6, I'm only taking bird's nest. Mostly because I don't like herbs.

mwerkz · Jun 3, 2009

jess> keke. i dunno leh. i bought the avent one. den try to remove. can remove leh. haha. but not sure if it still works upon removing -_-" nv try it yet.

btw, can try to buy cot mattress from ausssino during sale. pretty worth it. think de size is basically quite standard. i bought the yellow pooh one for my little prince =p

shelled> ya. agree infant car seats are usually more ex. cos dey are usually convertible to accomodate the a bigger age range. moreover for infants, de padding is usually better. n for the safety of ur little one. it's definitely worth it to spend abit more.

gerald> a few popular strollers is de capella s705 and pre prego piko p3. took a look at a few models. in de end go for capella. cos got rear facing and front facing mode. comfy n spacious.

rach> thanx for the massage contacts.

blessedmommy · Jun 3, 2009

JUL / WAIWAI
oh yah the japs r v civic minded. the sight of ppl wearg masks r not uncommon and they have such cute masks for children too! im so tempted to buy. i think my kids wouldnt mind wearg those! but if u want to prevent the h1n1 virus, only the n95 masks can do the job. the rest of the surgical/paper masks can only help to prevent spreading of the virus droplets if u r the sick person urself, it cant help to prevent the virus from gettg into u.

australia has 500 over cases already. Thank God all r concentrated in victoria and NSW.

i agree that perego P3 is one of the best strollers available. its so comfy and sturdy, only thing is very heavy! we have a combi also which is very light and useful to bring when u travel overseas but cos its so light im always wary it may topple. if ur child is heavy and sitting on it should be ok. just dun put a baby in there and hang too many things behind. v dangerous!

my hub is bent on gettg this baby a stokke. im surprised at his decision cos he hs never been a pram person and is always against heavy strollers. but im not complaining lah! i wud prefer an orbit though. that stokke cant hang anything at all! the only plus point is the height

blessedmommy · Jun 3, 2009

flower
i think the person who knows abt herbs is kiddo? correct me if im wrong?

flower4 · Jun 3, 2009

shelled,
i try to take birdnest too but always kena flu

mamato6js, maybe is kiddo or rach hor, duno who say , their father very expert in cordyceps....

i forgot lioa. heee..

btw, i put on 13kilos lioa!!!!!!! me now only 27weeks. SOS!!!
