(2009/08) August 2009 MTBs

cc..
yah ultimately must go down n visit the school urself n find one that fits ur budget.

wat u like might be wat others dun like.. (e.g. carpe diam in punggol, i love the big outdoor spaces but other parents complained abt the mosquitos bites in this more "nature" place) and of coz teachers/principals makes the difference.. (again using CP in punggol as an example, i dun feel comfortable with PRC teachers teaching english using broken language)

smurfy, ya..nxt time i will go in the mrng when they engage in the program. for carpe diem bt batok i went ard 3-4pm kids jz woke up from naps & having teabreak. but the teachers there like not those loves kids moreover the environment really put me off.

piggy,
ya pat school is supposingly be one of the good preschool for toddler wor... what did you hear not good? And that branch is near West coast plaza so near your PIL hse leh. :p

but like you said the price abit ex lah think its $1K for full day cc

donkey,
pat school hse got subsidy I checked b4

donkey
last time i used to take leaves to visit a few ccs in a day.. wow lao, i think i covered 5-8 shortlisted ccs then. happy touring for u keke :D.. kekeke yah i knw some teachers not engaging type.. must look out for happy students and smiling faces (some cryings is norm. i think)

donkeymami, you will know the difference when you talk to them whether they hv the passion on the kids or not. Some principals are just wanting to sell but some really hv passions to teach. Same when I talk to 3 gynea before settling with 1. You have to talk to them to feel the passion. Teachers are good only in their own specialized area. Pre-school teachers are not as organized to give a detailed and organized speech to keen parents. If you talk to principals, you will be able to understand the vision, missions of the school. You will be able to know things like how the school get to adjust to the latest primary school requirements. So far impressed me is CM and MMI. Tough decision took me a few weeks to decide. whewwww...

So far the pre-schools I visited, more chances to talk to teachers than principals. I've to make another appointment to speak to the principals.

BB
wat is CM? and which branch of MMI have u selectED?

Celine
tat's a long queue right? confirmed got space? u registered when he is a newborn arr???????? ehh may i check, it's a kindy right? so it's per term school fees? how much ar?

donkey,
their fees abit high is because some of their syllabus is adopted from Kindermusik and Fastrackids and some other good enrichment meaning the child will attend these lessons during their days in cc.

so to some parent, they do not need to let their kids attend enrichment class during weekend since weekday their kids got all the enrichment already.

And this is also 1 reason why they are "good" school.

Celine,
but if i happen not working v inconvenience for me to pick up.. but i thot it along AYE opp Hong Leong.. maybe i got the location wrong but off my budget la.. wah st james v hot leh i heard another 1 nanyang also ...

smury,
haha ya #2 confirmed space because I registered since he was 6 mths old, kiasu right? :p The school fees for my #2 is$1020 per term

St. James is a church kindy which also have those good syllabus such as ABC Music and ME by kindermusik, brain developement by fastrackids, Speech & Drama by Helen O Grady etc (thats why this is one of the "good" school)

celine, understand their syllabus incorporated enrichment programs like phonics, speech & drama all these tat make up their school fees.

if i can affort i prefer this as in send to better cc..for carpe diem the enrichment classes is optional means hv to pay xtra for the class..if u dun wan to join u will be having separate program but i doubt they will really take care of them more on let them read story books or coloring.

smurfy,
yes I know pat's have full time music teacher and went thru kindermusik training too, I checked their syllabus when I was selecting a school for my #1.

but in the end I let my #1 goes to a church kindy not St James thou because registered him too late
sad.gif
I want my boys to learn about God at the same time have good acdademic...

Celine, St James also adopt intelligence insight material (if I remember correctly). Good choice!

smurfy, CM is Character Montessori. I'm staying at Pasir Ris, not planning to go too far for schools. Hee hee...CM and MMI only walking distant of 10mins.

piggy,
pat is along AYE but also beside West Coast Plaze...(need to walk 5min lah)

donkey,
some cc just let the kids watch tv in the afternoon... :p

celine
psssssss... i did not do as much research leh.. i just like the env. of the school, the engaging teachers.. and him started off with their d-story club helps lor.
happy.gif

donkeymami
come come, join me.. they dun have all these kind of extra fees
happy.gif
... u just dun eat so much resturant foods can oredi
happy.gif

BB
ohhhhhhhhh yes.we talked abt it.. i am considering my girl for CM in sengkang/punggol kekekee.. oso. the MMI in sengkang lots are trainee teachers, so it's a no-no for me :p

smurfy, haha.. that's why I was bit blur when you asked me what is CM. Yes, it's all depending on the management of the branches. For CM, it's more like each time, there will be a supervisor and once a while a branch manager will drop by the school. I prefer a more devoted principal managing the school full time hence my decision.

Good luck to all mommies hunting for schools. This is the right time to start looking around cos 5 months to go before our babies reach 18mths.

bb,
haha tks, I want to let my boys get in since long time already but last time stay Punggol so if let my #1 study there it will be long journey, luckily now we shifted WEST so at least #2 can go in :D

but I love montessori school too! My #1 attended montessori school since 2 YO until recently he switched to the church kindy.

smurfy,
told u i kiasu mah so i did alot of research heehee...oh yah their d-story club also similar to JG ;)

donkey,
yes yes join smurfy lah pat is quite a good school and you dun need to sign up any enrichment class for your child during weekend

Haha u gals are just talking abt cc. The jul moms a
were already talking about primary sch!

I also wish I can send my gal to a more 'branded' sch but too ex la.

BB
like celine, me thinking of a temp place to put #2.. so most probably it's CM in sengkang, until she joins her brother in 2012 - playgrp (that branch dun have toddler 18mths grp)

c

Celine, I'm staying east now but if my IL (touch woood) no more around, I'll move west to CCK. I'll get headache by then about schools. Hope not so soon... I'm also planning to stop enrichment classes after 18mth playgroup starts cos school will be touching on most of the enrichment materials.

Smurfy, I see. The MMI here only accept 18mths and above. CM I cant remember.

mashy
pri sch, i lazy mummy, i am just letting them go to my hb's old school.. easiest route.. no voluntary, no grassroots, no 1 or 2km.. n school emphasis on chinese language
happy.gif

mashy,
wow Jul moms talking abt primary school? I got competitors to be kiasu already haha...

but someone here also talking in FB...you or smurfy huh? Got a boy similar age as my #1 :p

smurfy,
I got MMI and Patschool as a temp place for #2 but most likely I will choose MMI since Patschool and St James will be similar. But patschool no need to wear school uniform wor...

celine
mashy's the one talking abt pri sch.. i think so. :p..

donkeymami
kekeke u can convince ur hb one lar.. i oso tricked him by signing the boy in d-story club.. then he start seeing the "beauty" of that sch kekeke

bb,
when u shift west, just ask me lah by then I shud be West expert haha

smurfy,
i am letting my boys go to my old school no need to be stress, near my hse and also quite a good school but hopefully my boys can improve on their mandarin *faint*

donkey,
dun feel any pressure ok, I just recommend patschool because I did research on them but you just decide on a school where it is within your comfort zone interms of $$, distance, teachers alot of factor play a part too.
happy.gif

k...i oso skip a step first... i wana ask hor.. for primary sch.. if we're old student.. will automatically go into the phase 2-duno-wat le izit? or still need to sign up the alumni club or something? (wah that time i juz go my primary sch website see see.. the alumni club membership like $300+ for half yr or 1 yr woh!!! scary!!!!!)

celine, is your baby same birthday as mine? Not sure if you are in my facebook. I definitely will consult you when it happens. Thanks!

Celine,
hahah tt the hottest sch in tt area.. my Hb even jokingly say wan to buy HUndred Trees so can go NH i told him even parent who r old boy/gal may not get a place not to mention us... simply too many pp wan to get in... for pri i tink my 1st choice if i din shift house will be Rulang hahah... u really gd alr done so much research me still blur blur lol~

Celine

OMG. that is super scary

Pats

im working at iras,so the one at buckley is the nearest. Learning vision here im on waitlist number 40. *sigh* the fees r very steep but it's the only option left being close to my girl cos im nt sure when we'll be moving to next also.

Celine

ya, that's me.

fat bobo
usually no need to sign up alumni unless your sch is super popular like nanyang then maybe sign up to be safer. But generally no need also can get in.

Based on last year's stats, the primary sch registration has gone crazy. Even though it has one of the lowest birth rates, there was balloting done in many schs within 1km! Speculation was that there are more prs and new citizens fighting for a place.

The fight for pri sch places in good schs are tough. My advice is if you are intending to shift house soon, pls look at the schs around. Be <1km for the schs u wanna send your kid to unless you are alumni.

I hope my son won't grumble why I never send him to 'ming xiao' like his sis. Sigh.

kiki,

I'm taking out my name cos we'll be at japan!!!
happy.gif
Hiaz .. this is the 2nd time i missed the trial liao. Btw, when do they stop the half price trial offer? Maybe i'll arrange another one when i'm back.

This is getting crazy ... my hubby just changed his mind and he wants to join us for our jap trip!
Now scrambling to find pple to look after my coalie.

piggy,
old gals/boys can get into nanhua but within 1km or maybe Parent volunteer need to ballot. I heard this year within 1 km got 30 vacancy but got 80+ balloting for them!

sophia,
which part scary? ahahah..

bb,
oh hi you are be be choo!
happy.gif

mashy,
its true about PRs and new citizens.

my colleague failed balloting for Maris Stella (within 1~2km) and he tried Cedar Primary (not very popular choice) but nearly need to ballot because the school admin said there is an increase in foreign people...
sad.gif

celine,

Indeed it is a rush for us .. i think still can get tic cos my bro-in-law i think knows someone from travel agency. Room haven't booked yet, so we can bk an extra room, now that hubby wants to join us.
happy.gif

Hiaz .. all this school talk is making me stress oso. My pri school already tore down ... doesn't exist anymore! Dun even need to talk abt old boys/old girls
happy.gif
Anyway, dat's not a good school oso lah.

Pegsfur
