its their route to growing up. and when they grow older means more independent for them and more freedom for us too. but of cos will miss their giggles and the times when we can hug, kiss and hold them. bet they won't like any much more of these when they get older.

Jo
Haha 1 2 times a nite is quite normal for my gal la... I seldom get to sleep thru e nite one.. So at least ur boy sleeps early at nite so stil not too bad la. Wake up early but it somehow fit into e timing he needs to get ready for school rite?

Triangle
Good luck for ur refresher. Driving lesson is getting fun for me. But as a newbie I already find myself quite an impatient person always drive faster than req wahahaha...

nut,
Yup ... at least wont cause my hb to be late for work. Last nite he sit down there cry and cry ... I barely cant open my eyes .. ask him stop crying and go sleep, he cry even louder. Cry until cannot control, I got no choice only then I carried him and still cry nonstop. Then hb says why I let him cry until like tt then carry him .. I keep quiet .. in my heart I was like .. I carry him u say I pamper him, I dun carry him earlier on u say I make him cry until no control.

Think you will be a daring female driver!

Yah lor they always tink wat they say are rite la.. Whenever my hubby makes comments I'll ask if he wan to sleep at my side so he'll b e one attending to her at nite. Tt will make him shutup

Jo, if i were u hor... I will ask him 'U so clever then why didn't u wake up and carry him in the first place?'

So good .. but as long as I'm ard, Lucas is like "I want NOBODY NOBODY but MUMMY" leh. Buay tahan. His daddy has never shower him b4! Useless bum .. only know how to shower his notebook/ car. When Lucas cry in middle of the night .. heard Daddy's voice only, no matter gentle or fierce .. simply cry even louder.

I'm feeling sleepy now!

Jes, nw on t way bk home. To spend time w K and do last min packing. K spending tis morning w her daddy at home, dunno if he is surviving :p

sighz, juz want to vent my frustration here...
really hard to please grandparents when come to taking care of a toddler.
i really dun understand y grandparents like to spoil their own grandchildren. one moment comment tat muz discipline, then the nx moment give in to them when they throw temper/cry.
i juz tryin to toilet train my gal every nite b4 bedtime & it's oredi become a routine (w/o grandparents around). but 2day she throw her temper and cry in front of them! and they want me to give in to her instead of me scolding her. DID I DID ANYTHING WRONG?!
Then the other side of grandparents say give her something sweet to drink eg ribena, coz see her drink onli plain water, so quite pitiful but she still got slight cough at nite. and i find her still too young to take sweet stuff. in case she dun want to drink plain water... u know wat i mean... ARGH!!!

Jeanne,
You shld have cooled down by now.
You simply did nothing wrong ... its already nice that you try to toilet train your gal now and she has been doing it well before the presence of grandparents.
Its also good that if the child willing to drink plain water ... juz give her plain water, not sweet drinks everytime.

hi jo,

ya, i know... sometimes really speechless...
i nv really say anything when seeing my parents & in-laws spoilt her. but if i'm the one who give in to her a little, then they comment tis & tat...

well my mil always ask me to give her bit of honey water. but i scare of her digestive system, so nv give her till now. any mummy hv let them try yet? i used to give her drink heinz fruit drink but she'll hv bit cough after tat.

Jeanne,
Yikes! Do NOT give honey water. I read somehwere before that honey is no good for young children. Something about Botulinus intoxication. Read this link - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Botulism

As for your posting, I can totally relate and understand you. I was initially like that too. Frustrated and stressed over such matters. But after having 3 children, I'm kinda immune to such things.

Grandparents will always be grandparents. Given the chance, they will spoil their grandchildren to bits. However, I find that bringing them to doctor check-ups and getting the doctor "tell them off" directly helps more cos the source is an unbias and professional individual. Alternatively, I just relax and let them spoil the child. But once we get home, the usual rules apply. I used to kick up a fuss... but found out the hard way that I was in turn making everyone miserable. My main rule is - if the thing they are doing is not to the extreme detriment of my child's health and well-being, I'm ok with it. Those few times of drinking sweet drinks and eating sweets won't hurt the child. But if this 'giving' is on a prolong basis, then it becomes a different story and will be nib in the butt.

As for the child, no need to be harsh and discipline on every aspect. I find that stresses us out even more. No need to follow those mothering books with precision. Instead, follow your child's lead. When they do as per your instructions, clap for them, cheer them on and be glad. But for days when the child seems to 'rebel', relax.. dun fret. Children do go thru phases of "PMS" too. During the tough times, you can still enforce your rules but discipline with love and tenderness. Screaming, shouting and beating the child won't help. It will just make the child fearful, confused and sad. Especially at this tender age of coming to 2-yrs only.

Trust me. After 3 kids, I've learned finally to let go of the nitty gritty and just to enjoy the whole moments of parenthood and being a child again with my gals.

Jeanne,
As for sweet stuffs, my 3 girls starting taking such things like sweet drinks and all sorts of tibits since they reached 2-yrs. To date, all are doing fine. They still take their plain water and eat proper meals when required. No harm done whatsoever. The key here is... give them in moderation. Dun be over-excited and protective. I know quite tough epsecially if it concerns number #1. I ws those super protective mommy. Din do any good for me, my hub or those around me. Was not easy for me to let her go out from my protective cocoon. Now, I like to expose them to such thrills and treats..... and take delight at the joy in their eyes. hahahahahah....

wanna seek ur advise for maid. haa.. u are a maid guru here! wanna ask if maid has eye sight problem. employer have to pay for their spec? i tink my maid either got short sighted or lao hua... we say she still deny.. tinking to bring her to eye physician to check.. but i not willing to bear the whole cost... cos i tink they dont take of tings. if she pay, she will still take care. haa.

Hi Alibaba,

hahahah... no lah. Paiseh... Not maid guru. Just unfortunate that in 5-years, I've changed 7 maids liaoz. hahahahahah...

Technically, for any medical associated issues, we gotta bear the charges. So if you are bringing her to those opthalmologist clinic, then legally, the onus is on us to cover 100% of costs. But if you are just bringing her to those normal optical shops for check-up and to get a pair of spectacles, she has to bear the costs. Alternatively, you may wish to split the costs half-half out of goodwill.

I totally agree that if we dun make they bear some costs, they won't take care. Cos they cannot be bothered mah.

hey mummies: i was on course yesterday but nothing much seems to have happened.

hi jeanneloi: long time no c. *pat pat* don't let it get u down.
