angel, i saw in the papers today, tom and stephanie is selling Maxi Cosi Priori SPS for $298.

Prawnie, the Zojirushi thermal food container is going at $47 at Robinsons. I'm not sure if it's cheaper than BP.

I also bought a Graco play pen for my son to sleep in for fear of him falling off the bed. My husband is quite careless, he can be in the same room as my son surfing the net and forgot baby is in the room. I think the play pen can sleep till maybe about 2 years old. I made-to-order a mattress to fit in (only $45), so it is quite comfy.

For car seat, I am still currently using the maxi-cosi cabrio-fix. Still debating between the britax or the maxi-cosi Tobi. About a month ago, saw a Britax (can't remember whether it was the boulevard series) on sale at motherworks for $300+, but decided not to buy because I think my son prefers the maxi-cosi type of cushion material. Anyway, I found 2 online stores selling the maxi-cosi car seats at very good price, especially for the 2007 model, almost 40% of the current price. May wish to look through before deciding.

mummies letting babies sleep in playpen, do you let your babies sleep in the higher level? it's a bit shaky isn't it (cos only hands from the rails)?

my girl sleeps in hger cot but daytime in the playpen at my mum's. but she keeps waking up cos it'll wobble a little whenever she stirs.. do you have this problem?

morning mummies, Finally it is Friday!

lynn, my playpen have this problem too.. now Charis sleep on mattress beside us, we only let play inside the playpen.. is ur playpen the lonney tune 1?

zac, sleep in the lower level? so low not difficult to put the baby in?

cherishbebe, yeps mine is the tweety bird one
happy.gif

Hi Lynn, I have actually raised up the bottom by putting two mattresses in, so not so bad. But I regretted not getting those play pen which has a side opening.

Zac, can you share the online stores link which sell the maxi-cosi car seats? I am oso comparing between maxi-cosi and britax, however, looking at a carseat which has ISOFIX.

same as mine, it is shaky!!

zac, if ur bb sleep in air-con, sleeping at the bottom is not a problem.

but we don't sleep in air-con, the playpen will be stuffy and hot.. and I realised Charis love to flip and flip before she fall asleep, so we let her sleep on mattress, it is bigger

RE: babies falling down
Hugs to all MUMs who had babies falling down! DUn reproach yourselves. It's part & parcel of their and our learning process. Yes, they are very fast these days so try to belt them or put them on the floor. Sayang all bbs who fell.

Angel: I bought Britax boulevard for Elliot since birth. We decided Britax as this model is USA version which has high standards for car safety for child. Australian version is safety first. Our model weigh is 2.3 and 29.5 kg. My HB pays alot attention for safety-ness hence gd cushioning is a must. They have side cushions. Very sturdy but design may not be savvy. Well, safety first :D

For car seats: Any mums buying from MotherWorks can let me know. I have the membership card. Not sure if they have sale now. Otherwise can get further discount :p

Good morning mommies!
Been a few days since I've logged in, hope everyone's doing great.

Playpen:
Ethan's using the Graco Pack n Play and it doesn't have the wobble issue. I'm not sure if it's sturdier, but that's not a problem.
He doesn't nap in the playpen, always in his crib. No particular reason, it's just his main bed is all.

Car Seat:
Ethan's using the Maxi Cosi Priori SPS. I worried that it wouldn't be as comfortable as the Tobi but he doesn't seem to mind. He's very happy in it actually. I like the Tobi Sky Diver but it's unnecessary at the moment, so I hope I don't give in!
Considered Britax but don't quite like the design and fabric. One very important deciding factor for us was that the actual seat room (bum to thigh) was considerably less for the Britax as compared to the Maxi Cosi.
This didn't seem very practical since it would be accommodating a growing toddler and since I would like my legs to be supported as much as possible, why not my son's?
The loose, bunchy fabric was also a pain, I like the neat and tight fabric of the Maxi Cosi.
Having said that, Britax is probably more padded that way. But I've got extra seat padding just in case, that Ethan hasn't even needed yet.
What the heck, Ethan's happy in his Priori so I am too.

The bottomline is that a high end car seat will do its job well. And both Maxi Cosi and Britax are considered high end.
Therefore with regards to safety, Maxi Cosi and Britax are comparable.
Touch wood but in the event of a serious accident, the best car seat will only be able to do so much.

Car Seat:
Safety 1st priority & next will be the comfy issue. Am planning a long drive up to kl & maybe northern msia in mid dec. The current britax (2nd hand) is not so comfy & material is too warm.

Hi Angel

Isofix is some base thingy that you put in the car to secure the car seat. It looks very sturdy but cost about $300++. I think with the ISOfix, you don't need to strap the seat in with the 3point seat belt.

Lynn and Zac,

I understand what you mean by wobbly. My playpen is like that too. What I did was use velcro to secure the bassinet(top layer) to the fabric of the playpen. (sides of the playpen)Not so wobbly now. But, I'm quite worried as Juilan might be able to climb out soon. He's trying to grip the railings already. Is there a playpen that opens from the side? I don't mind getting one so that I can put him lower.

Hi Zac, thanks for the detailed explanation on Isofix! I get the idea now.

Chewy, where did you buy the Britax from? and how much did you pay? Does Elliot like it?

I went to Baby Kingdom but much prefer Baby Hyperstore instead.
If you go there, look for Dila or Shaun. They will very patiently answer all your questions with a lovely disposition. I'm very impressed with their customer service.

I agree with Chewy about going to Mothers Work to try out the seats. Hubby and I poked and prodded the Britax and asked a zillion questions there. The only drawback for us is that we got a young kid who was so soft spoken and didn't know much about the products. Eventually, hubby and I did our own research and weighed the pros and cons ourselves.

Hi Jules' mum,

I saw one at Baby Meadows online store which says that the playpen has a side opening, selling for $170/-. But have not seen it physically, so can't say how it works exactly. Am tempted to get one for my mum's place also...but I have too many 'beds' already, 2 cots (one at mum's place)plus my current playpen. Actually I bought my playpen because my cot is too bulky to move into my room. My silly husband has separation anxiety when I propose to put my son to sleep in his own room when he was 4 months old, so we got the graco pack & play, which is quite compact and 4 corners netted so not so warm. I even raised the bottom by 30cm by putting in 2 mattresses so that it would not be too low.

Hi Hi scuba

saw ur PM... msg u lo.

Thanks Chewy, for comforting words that made me feel that should not be so reproaching towards myself.

zac,

which mattress you using? i'm thinking if I should put mattress or to buy another pen. I'm thinking of not spending too much cos dun think he will sleep there too long. I wanted to let my son sleep in his own room on e queen sized bed. I took out e bed frame thus not so high. also tot of using bed rails to prevent him from falling. my hubby dun allow too. I have 2 pen too. 1 at my house 1 at my mum's. luckily my sis getting married this sunday so we decided to put him on e floor mattress. so I still gotta settle my own place. maybe I'll get e other pen or add more mattress. my dad is super funny. I wanted to put him on e floor mattress beside our bed. my dad worried that we will roll down e bed and fall on him! ridiculous right! haha.

Hi Jules' mum, your dad is funny, worried for his precious grandson. My mattress is the made-to-order type. It is about 4-5 inches thick, cost $45. I got it from those neighbourhood furniture shop. Underneath that mattress, I put another mattress (actually it is a spare single size mattress, folded up fitted nicely)

Babies who fall out of cribs:
Do your cribs have 3 levels? And which level are you using when baby falls out of it?
Ethan is using the 2nd level now but we'll be moving it to the lowest level when he starts trying to stand up in his crib.
The only problem I foresee is putting him down in it as it's way too low. Sometimes he sleeps elsewhere and we just move him to the crib. We don't usually lower the rail coz pulling it back up and snapping it into place will wake him up.

Choc: I think it's less than $400 after discount. Otherwise shld be almost $500... hmmm... if I happen to go great world I post here. Pea brain man... llimited memory space....

Cath: hey babe, dun mention. Hv a gd wkend k.

Scubababe: Yo babe, how are u? Din c u & Byron for long time since last outing at Pearl's hse. Sayang Byron *hugs*

Diva: my cot has 3 lvls, & tml we r adjusting to the lowest lvl as Elliot climbs up by pulling himself up by the side yesterday! Tsk tsk, not safe man! He slps on my bed at nite. Noon time, I put him in to let him play. Guess the snapping sound u hv to let him get used.

my cot has three levels too, but i'm still at the highest level cos Adel can't sit up by herself from lying down position yet.

diva and chewwy, your babies so fast can sit up from lying down and even standing up by themselves?

Diva, yes my cot also 3 lvls.
Now already at the lowest.
But we have somewhat migrated Summer from her cot to our bed! When some parents are trying to put their babies to sleep in the cot, we are moving her out.
She pulls herself to stand when in the cot, so it's no longer safe to let her sleep in there at night. Nobody knows when she would wake up and if she does pull herself to stand, we are afraid that she might lose her grip and fall backwards.
Highly likely that she would knock her head against the cot.
She is ok with e snapping sound. But the prob now is that with the lowest level, we have to bend like mad when we want to change her. We dont have a changing table, we change her on a changing pad in the cot.

Yest, summer fell from the bed. Think she creeped too fast. Fell right infront of us. She landed on the floor, cheeks down first.
My heart just stopped! and she started screaming.
Seems like she is so injury prone.
Recently, she was playing with her activity table, she pressed the side to pull herself to stand. But as she was only pressing onto one side, the table couldnt take the pressure and flipped. The other side of the table flipped up and hit her head.
So now my hb removed all the table legs.

mummies with fussy eaters.. i noticed Adel's more interested in eating when i 'pretend' to eat her food and then pass it to her. aiyo, i'm gonna become one of those aunties who have to pretend the food is very yummy when feeding their young ones -_-

just now let have her apple puree (she initially rejected, and then accepted sucking on apples in her fresh food feeder, now going back to try puree).. i fed it to her cold since that's the way she's been taking her apples in the fresh food feeder. first mouth she took didn't like it and made a face. second mouth she gaged and spit it out. then i pretend to eat it she began to try grabbing the spoon again so i gave her again. made a face and didn't like it but still accepted the other mouthfuls i gave her, alternating between giving me a disgusted look and spitting it out. hahahaha but at least she didn't cry and refuse it or vomit up her previous feed like she used to..

Summer's Mama and Chewy,

Ethan startles quite easily which is why he doesn't sleep on his back, instead only on his tummy. I guess we'll need to find a way to snap the rail back up as quietly as possible.
He doesn't stand up in the crib yet so we're safe for now, but I do worry about him falling backwards and hitting his head on the rail like some mommies have mentioned. Hubby and I even went around looking for something, anything that we can cover the rail with to soften potential bumps. But it doesn't seem like there's anything for that purpose.

Must be tough without a proper changing table! I used to go without one till we decided to get the change table from Ikea. Ethan has sort of outgrown the length but it still serves us well!
I'm worried about bending to put Ethan down when we move the crib level lower. I started having back problems last week, there's this annoying pain right smack in the middle of my spine now. It's not going away and my mom's bugging me to see a doctor and do something about it before it escalates to a slipped disc.

I hope I don't ever have to consider putting Ethan back in my bed. He doesn't sleep as well as he would if he were alone in his crib, and it's kinda hard to get a good night's sleep when Ethan is next to us. We did it when he was 2 months old and I was always half awake.

Cuddle lil Summer for me and kiss her for Ethan. 2 big bumps warrants a whole lotta love!
Since she moves fast and sleeps on your bed now, you probably should place mattresses on all 3 sides so there will be some cushioning should she fall again.
We have an activity table too and while Ethan doesn't use it to stand himself up yet, I'll bear in mind that it may topple.
Over the last few days, he's really started a flipping frenzy. He'll flip his way from one end of the bed to the other without stopping and at lightning speed too.
We haven't had any accidents or major bumps yet, save for the toys he whacks himself on the head with!
Hope to keep it this way for as long as possible.

Lynn,

Haha kids are so smart!
I'm happy to hear that Adel is accepting it even if you do have to play pretend with her
happy.gif

I do the same thing with Ethan when he looks disinterested, but he just gives me a goofy look as if to say 'that's not gonna work on me, try harder mom! '.

My gal will be 7 mths tomorrow and she pulled herself to a standing position in the cot today! So surprised, cos she just started to crawl this week...;-)

jgal,
i sent u a pm this afternoo if the Porky in ur list referin to me or the other mommy. Cos i listed my nick in the list, but was not in ur finalised list. pls confirm. thx. =)

Sputnik,

It's great to watch the developments but be careful as a few mommies have babies falling out of cribs or falling backwards and hitting their heads on the rail, once they start standing up in the crib.
Enjoy the milestone!
