Here's my take on semi-solids / solids for 6 months old.

They can take canned cereal or rice (brown or white) powder.

You can also cook porridge. But porridge should be very fine (like chok), not grain porridge (like teochew muay). Baby may not know how to chew yet. To get chok, u can cook porridge overnight in slow cooker, or process rice grains into smaller pieces using blender or chopper before cooking. Some rice cookers have porridge function that can cook very fine porridge. When u add fish or vege etc, they must also be blended till fine. Either blend before cooking, or mash well before feeding.

You will find that every person has a different take on weaning , it will drive u nuts LOL Most imptly, see what your boy is ready for. No hard and fast rule.

Anyway if you want to gradually increase solids to 2-3 times a day as bb grows older, some flexibility and variety will be good. E.g. oatmeal cereal in morning, porridge in afternoon.

Btw if u are starting solids for first time at 6 months, maybe start with single grain cereal e.g. healthy times brown rice cereal or brown rice powder. then slowly work your way to more complicated stuff like cooking ur own porridge with ingredients, or mixed grain cereal.

ya premium choice is the NUK wide neck bottle with red/blue screw top. So far my boy ok with M size teat but he's sucking harder than before so maybe time to change the teat. How do you enlarge the teat?

little mouise
U mean this Sun you coming my place to collect the book? Sure, i am in during the afternoons.

I understand your confusion. EVERYONE tells me different things too. Eventually, I think u will give both porridge & cereal. Don't think baby will want to eat porridge 3 x a day, everyday, right? LOL So actually both ur mom & MIL are right. Just that canned cereal, being easier to prepare, may be a better food to start with - less chance for mistakes for mummy. Then when you get the hang of it, try porridge - takes longer to prepare & perfect. Then cereal can be for breakfast, porridge for lunch.

i use a small scissors to cut the hole bigger, like those sharp-ended nail scissors. poke a blade into the hole and snip. it is useful to get a hole size that's just between M and L.

geryl - sjck, depends on what you look for in a school... i like the chapel time n the teachers are caring n approachable.
so far, my girls are happy in the school

unfortunately they do not offer child care svc.

Littleprinceses, glad baby Val loves the jumperoo! Bb Dana loves exploring the toys on it but she can't jump on her own yet. I'm also thinking of sending her to SJCK as some of my neighbours' kids are there. Heard the queue is super long...

RE: Semi-solids
My PD advises us to start white rice cereal (before you proceed to brown rice cereal as it's easier for babies to digest). Anyway, I also started feeding Dana frisocream y'day (mix with warm water) and she likes it! Just that mummy is feeding too slowly for her as I'll wipe her mouth after each spoonful and she became impatient and wailed!

These few days, Dana's been rather cranky and sticky. Tends to cry a lot esp in the afternoons, keep wanting to be carried and refused to be put down on the mat/bed. Dunno whether it's due to teething
sad.gif
Every week diff set of challenges! Sometimes when she cries non-stop and refuses to be pacified, I feel like crying along with her
sad.gif

Littleprincesses, glad Val loves the jumperoo. Giddyness is a small price to pay for some freedom time
happy.gif

Angel - Same! Ernest also start wailing a lot in the afternoons. Don't know if it is colic? But should not have colic as he's 5 mths right? He cried till beads of tears rolling down his cheek, make me feel so bad
sad.gif

I think it's teething but MIL says not so fast, so I also don't know why....

My boy takes to spoon feeding very well. Even for stuff like gripe water, which he would reject in a bottle, he'd happily drink it up if fed by spoon. In the past, my MIL and mom told me he was bored with milk in a bottle, and I would never believe it. But his enthusiasm when eating leads me to suspect that there is some truth to it now :p

joelle.... my gal was sick for the last few days...And lucky i have the spuirt spoon, cos' my gal refuse to drink water from the bottle.. so i use the spuirt spoon and feed water.

aniway, constance is better now

Thanks

Will give it a try as his M teats are still very new, so maybe enlarging it is better, L teat indeed looks abit big for transition.

Angel,
You are not alone. My son also started to show his preferences these days, by wailing very loud the moment he doesn't like something. I used to feel like crying too but 4 months down the road, not any more
happy.gif
Sometimes when everything fails, I just walk away & leave him for a few mins, he quiet down by himself & even smiles to me when I go back to him, babies!!!

hi araid22,

which gymboree branch u tried out? u need to pay how much to register for sjck?heard it is the most ex in spore??

preschool
judging from the rates per term,it is more ex than uni...

angel - cool, hv you registered Dana at sjck? I m still considering...if keen better to register earlier. Like you say, the queue is rather long. I may let Val join when she is 4 yrs old.
*hug* hug* hope dana will go back to her sweet temperament soon. hang in there ok..

Hi Goodbb,

I tried the one at tanglin mall. The classes there are quite small. Heard the weekday class has only 1 child and the sunday class that I attended has 4 including my son. I'm not sure if I will sign up though my son enjoys. Will wanna try out the others before signing up. Maybe wait for the feedback for the little gym.
happy.gif

As for sjck, I had to pay 50 registration fee and 300 to secure the place. I don't think it's the most expensive. Some fullday schools like pat's, more ex ah.

goodbb
its no longer $75 subsidy, its $150 liao. i forgot govt has increased the amt during the national day rally. so for half day playgroup is $150 for both working & non working mums. child care is usually full day, so its $300 subsidy.
