Hi seabreeze,

re: jaundice
How yellow does your boy boy look at 15.8? i need a gauge leh..the whites of his eyes yellow? cause i brought my girl to the doctor that time, but he say still in safe zone. Unsafe zone is when a baby's skin becomes yellow like durian type of yellow... dunno, but i don't really like the PD. going to change to another one.

hi mummtobe,
when my gal jaundice is 11.3, her face will be red with many patches of yellow when crying or after latching on for some time. the yellow are around the mouth, the nose, above eyes, btw eye brown... Now her level is 5.11 I notice the yellow patches are much less significants. I use this to judge whether is it more serious then 11.3.

ting2
he fussed coz he wanted to eat again? Or just burp & swaddle him will do? Wonder does anyone put their baby in a pram on tummy?? that'll solve many fussing problems haha

Hi

must we monitor and bring them to pd to check jaundice all the time? my boi last check at 12 days old was 7.0.. i think he is not so yellow now but must get pd's all clear notice?

Hi seabreeze
i think u just have to persist pumping using avent.. i am using it.. i actually wanted to buy the electric one.. but the cost of it delayed the decision so i just kept pumping with avent.. so far it has been ok. just try to massage more and pump at regular hours

cakey
How old is your child? my child is less than 2 weeks so he might still have some changes in weeks to come.
Yes my Cl feeds him day and night and I latch him twice a day. He now wants to 'play' or stay awake more during the night as he thought the day as night and night as day therefore he sleeps more during the day.

Babies are always unpredictable, therefore I would suggest to be a facilitator than a regulator. Sometimes, the baby might cry because he wants to be cuddled or even bored so we as mothers have to know what the baby really wants.

Hmm what my cl did is using the small portable electric kettle that I got for her in the room, she will boil the water and pour it onto a mug with the bottle ( it will only take 2 mins to boil the water since it is such a small electric kettle), leave it for like 3 mins. Pour away the water, and pour the rest of the water in the kettle into the mug to make sure that the milk is warm enough.
Sometimes, talking to your baby like mummy is preparing the milk now for you and telling him/her what you are doing might help. I mean my Cl told me that my baby seems to understand when she 'talks' to him but different babies are different. My Cl said my child is quite mature for a baby who is barely 2 weeks old. It takes time to understand the pattern of your child. I suggest to write down the timing of all his/her feed as well as peeing and pooing times.Maybe from there, you can see if there is a pattern which you might not have noticed.

Hope this helps and remember that talking and playing with your child is important cos though they are babies, they don't sleep all the time

I'm a mummy ...

my boi face and body is yellowish with red patch ... the yellow is quite obvious ...

just came back from the hospital ... bf him there but seem like he didnt drink enough (he kept falling asleep) cos the nurse called me to say that he started crying non stop after i left for 20mins .... and they couldnt continue with the light treatment ... so told them to give him FM .... aiya talking about him in the hospital me heartache already ...

will go home and start pumping out the milk ... can feel my breast becoming heavier ... think i will give the avent pump one more try ... if not will just invest in the electric pump ... since i prob need it when i ret to work ...

those who bought e ameda dual breastpump, how much u pay for it? i understand there's a cheaper lorbang compare to MIM rite, can share the contact?? thanks in advance.

Cakey: Usually i will have to cook a quick meal for lunch when staying home. like porridge or noodle. I will quickly prepare the ingredients when my bb is sleeping usually by the time i finished eating, she will wake up for her afternoon feeding.

Hi temple: I got no problem taking LRT, anyway now the train service is very convenient.

RE: Going out
I started bringing my girl out when she was 3 weeks old. Since then has been bringing her go gai-gai including trips to compasspoint usually weekdays all by myself. Once u get the hang of it, sure u can handle yr nb.

Triniti: Gosh so envious on yr milk supply... i hve been expressing on a regular basis of 3hrly, can oni express 120-140ml per session leh...

i have a question.....

those mummies.. before u given birth.. do your fart alot????

cos lately.. i realise i keep farting.. so irritating and i cant sleep well either.

Hi mummies,

Have been following this thread for a while... Can i just ask, those of you who bring your babies out, do you use the sling or the pram?

clarissemummy: i do realise i fart a lot. before pregnany, i don't really fart// do burp to release gas... hehe..

but it wun be smelly one lor.. juz lotsa gas when u fart.

Hi tulip, dun worry, she dun hard sell her pdts. She's a very nice, friendly lady. Usually per facial session last for abt 75mins to 90 mins.

Hi Anissa, aya...I bot the bouncer liao, but it still doesn't works for my gal. She still cry alot. Any other suggestions mummies?

Hi Kathy,

Even after you strapped her to the bouncer she still doesn't like it? You can try teaching her how to 'hit' the 3 dangling stuff. My boy will self-entertain himself by hitting on the object and try to catch it with his open mouth. Usually he will get frustrated after trying at it for an hr. Hahaha ...

Anyway, the bouncer is good for putting your baby in an upright position also after each feed so that she doesn't throw up her milk.

I find that my boy can sleep longer when I place him inside. Give it another try.

Hi all,
Havent been in here for a few days. Still waiting for my boy to come out. Can't wait, especially after hearing about all your brestfeeding stories and confinement stories. Hee...
Will be going for my checkup tonight. Will be doing CTG as mentioned by my gynae. What do we look out for when doing CTG? Are we supposed to have some contractions detected or what?

hi wendy, i sort of resigned to "fighting" with my boy during feeding times... no matter what position i put him or what i do, he'll fuss, and there's no trend or pattern or clue to the reasons... u'll see this wed... thinking of getting a lactation consultant for advice...

hi mummies,
Bb finally full-month but nowadays getting more fussy. Refused to sleep even though can tell he's extremely tired. Must carry and hug at all times. Tonight getting the sarong to try, hopefully will get him to sleep better.

RE: BF
Originally things was going well. Can pump about 600ml a day although still need to supplement at night. But since my rashes, my ss has dropped to only about 300ml, and bb developed constipation from the increased formula intake. Took him to PD yesterday to clear his shit...poor thing, ganna poke in anus and cried until face all red. Stayed in clinic for 4 hrs and was so relieved when we finally managed to clear his system. Now mentally phobia to give him formula. Want to give him more BF but dun have. Don't know how I'll cope for the next 2 mths, really felt like giving up breastfeeding....

Hi ixwong,
My bb also same as yours when he was 3 weeks old. Till i let him sleep in Sarong it seems better. But day time still doesn't sleep much.

what FM do you give to ur baby? Don't give up your BF. I was very very low supply when my bb in full mth. (about100ml per day only) But due to bb has block nose and phlegm i kept on pumping every 3-4 hrs interval. Finally my ms increase to 300-400ml per day. At least not bad. Maybe you can pump more often ? Drink milo 30 mins before pump? Lets jia you....

hi Lib
I think my body is very heaty by its own so the milk ducts are more easily stimulated. You can try to eat more tonics since they are heaty. Drink lotsa hot fluids before u feed your baby or before you pump.
The colour of your baby's stools will determine how heaty you are..if it is very yellow or orange that means your body is very heaty. If it is light yellow or green that means your body is not very heaty.

I also fart alot now but the CL said it is good cos it means that your body is expelling the wind.

Hi ixwong

Ya, what brang of FM your bb take? My bb took S26 Gold during the initial days and she got no prob on passing motion daily. When we replace more of her feed with bm, she only pass motion once a week despite her stools are soft. Ironic right. Checked with the pd and was told that as long as her stools are not hard, it's ok tt she dun pass motion daily.

Rgd bf, dun be discouraged. Try pumping at every 2-3 hrly interval and the supply should come back again. Take more fish and papaya, should help too!

Hi cmy, do you give water too? I will give her water to drink whenever she cried for milk but not time yet for milk. I am giving my gal total FM now and with more water feeds in between, her stools are ok.. yellow and soft. HTH.

Vivien, for me if i go out alone wif baby or to crowded places i will sling her.. if hb is wif me then i will use pram..

Mummies:
anyone giving yr nb Similac excellence? I have half a tin left, which is used to supplement esp when i'm outside. However, find my girl is starting to reject it, and i do not want to waste it. any mummies want? somemore realise she is quite colicky after drinking FM.. tot to change to Nan HA.

Tingting, wat abt listening to soft music or u singing song while feeding?

Miso: u at punggol this wed? I pass u the friso FM

Hi Lib,

What brand of sling do you use? I bought a Moms in Mind sling but find it very difficult to use cos there seems to be 'so much cloth' and my girl is quite small.

Hi miso, i give him water by forcing before milk....aiyoh....he cried and scream like nobody biz. Till my MIL said out don't force him. Hmm.... his pattern exactly like father who doesn't like to drink water. But i do sometimes give him water at midnight. He accepts leh. Maybe night time he couldn't differenciate water and milk.. haha

Hi temple, u wan me to bring the tin huh? since we stay so near can pass to u anytime..

Hi Vivien, I'm using the MIM sling.. My girl oso used to be quite small.. wat i did for the excess cloth around the head area to cover her face so tt she can't see wats happening outside.

hi gals

long time no see. i gave birth to my boy, Dominic, on 13/9 via c-section. pelvic bone small so can't go thru natural birth.

my BM is not very established yet and he is always struggling with me during BF, refuse nipple and crying and screaming. i am getting very discouraged and stressed over BF now. i can't express out my BM, nipples are very painful using the pump. any suggestions??

should i just try to pump out my BM regularly to establish flow?? i am so confused now.

Hi all,

I'm from Oct 2005 mummies thread, I've got a question I hope some of you can help me with: What goes into the tea for confinement ah? Red dates, wolfberries, dried longan and huai shan? Or is it dang shen? And should we drink it throughout the day?

ilmare,
congrats on your delivery! I wanna check with u, how did u know that ur pelvic bone is small and cant do natural? u found out before the delivery or during? Thanks.

Hi Kris,

My confinement lady uses, red date, wolfberries, dang shen, bei qi, dried longan.

She doesn't put ginger inside cos she said it wont't taste very nice and the dishes i eat daily already have ginger inside.

I drink this throughout the day.

mrstan

i actually was trying to go thru natural birth, and had regular contractions on the friday prior to the birth of my boy. i didn't feel the contractions then, and was admitted for inducement on the following monday. still got regular contractions but no contraction feeling and cervix not dilated. so long story short, i was fully dilated on tues afternoon and tried to push. baby head was at station 1(whatever that means??) until everyone realised that when i pushed, his head will come down a bit and when i released my push, he went back up again. so after 1 hr of pushing, gynae decided to c-section and told me after the op that my pelvic bone is small.

my baby was not really engaged during the last few weeks of pregnancy, tummy still quite high till my 38wks. think that is probably another sign.

ilmare,
wow thanks for ur explanation. that means u only found out after pushing and attempting to deliver by natural. i wonder if we can find out early from gynae if our pelvic bone is small so we can skip the labour process if really so. if not, imagine if kena episiotomy and then end up cannot deliver, then double the pain leh.

hi ilmare, congrats! my boy is now 7 weeks old, and still having the struggling problem too.. funny thing is he was ok for the first few weeks of birth, only started struggling after 1 month old. can u contact the lactation consultant at ur hospital, maybe they can shed some light? will let u know if i find any solution...

lib, when he's irritated music seems to irritate him further leh... he can only be calmed down when he's being walked n carried, but when he starts suckling again the fussing just starts one more time... sad thing is he doesn't struggle when he's bottle fed...

last night was a nightmare.. his last feed before bedtime lasted 3 hrs! he suckled quite long at the breast and then fell asleep.. thought he finished already, so burped him n put him on bed.. barely 1 minute later cried again for milk... happened 3-4 times until i cannot tahan n asked hubby to bottle feed EBM. same thing happened also... both of us so fustrated... finally got him to bed at 12 mn... but the sleep was v long, he only woke up for his next feed at 6am... dunno whether it's bcos he's changing his feeding pattern... but v siong woh....

hi lib, me will not be at punggol. daytime will b at my mil's plc. tks. will go over ur plc prob this weekend to collect...is it ok? sms me...cos hardly log in.

Hi mummies,

Finally have time to log in. Been stressed and busy since CL left on saturday...

Hi cookies,
For the ameda dual lactaline, you can contact the distributor (Euramedic) at tel: at 68447717. They sell the new pump at $280. Free delivery with 1-day advance order

Hi Clarissemummy,
I think that's the 'wind' coming out of our systems. Wah, the first few days when i was still in the hospital, i farted like nobody's business. whole day fart fart fart and they were real stinkers like rotten eggs haha my mum says that those are the 'toxic wind' coming out due to the hot soups/confinement i've been taking at TMC. But they smelled really bad..i pitied the nurses who had to come in and out of my room kekeke

Hi Ixwong, Chemistry, Miso
I recently switched my baby girl to total FM few days ago, cause me stopping breastfeeding due to health reasons. Can i check, how did you know your baby was having constipation? How often does a baby poo when on FM? i heard from some that it could be once a day only, or once every 3-4 days? when is it considered constipation? since my baby girl on FM, she hasn't poo poo yet in 3 days. Me thinking whether should bring her to PD or not...I do give her water feeds twice a day. Me feeding baby similac excellence, not sure if its because of that?

Hi Ilmare,
Congrats! Me did not latch baby completely on the first days also, cause first four days in the hospital, kenna sore nipple already. But milk coming in with engorgement etc, so had to loan an electric pump at TMC to express the milk. if you express regularly, you can stimulate milk flow, not a problem. For me, i could pump up to about average 1litre a day, all through using electric pump (ameda). didn't need baby to 'stimulate'

Re: falling asleep before finishing feed

Does any mummy have this problem? Sometimes, i am faced with my baby girl not finishing her feed. On these ocassions, my girl will start drinking her milk very eagerly..but by the time she reaches the last 20-30ml, she starts dozing off and no matter how we try to wake her or toy with the bottle, she just refuses to drink anymore. and then she will wake up and cry for her next feed earlier than scheduled. Eg. she is on a 3 hourly feed schedule. But if she doesn't finish her milk, she will start demanding her feed at about 2.5 hrs.

Btw, any suggestions on how we can stretch feeding time to 4 hours or more? my mother keeps nagging at me to feed her water when my baby is screaming for milk at 3hours. You know babies lah..they only start screaming when they cannot take it anymore. Hungry means hungry, and my mother keeps insisting i feed her water only and wait until its 4 hours past her last feed before giving her milk. But no matter what i do, my baby girl just doesn't want to drink water at times like these. I can't make my mother see that...dunno if i'm wrong or not..

hi all

i am using a nipple shield now to BF him, he takes to the nipple shield better than to the actual nipple! at least there is less of a struggle now, tried for 2 feeds so quite stress free.

my BM is really a sad case.... no engorgement when try to pump, super painful and very little milk. if i can express BM, i will gladly give it to him in a bottle and not struggle during each feed and sore nipple.

i am supplement him with FM, since my BM is insufficient. both HB and me agreed tat it is more impt for him to benefit the maternal antibodies from BM and get his energy from FM. even if i BF him for 20 min on each side, it is still insufficient for him. the only thing is tat his poo poo is yellowish, so meaning he did manage to get some BM during feeds.

i am quite upset with my CL, there are things tat i wanted for my boy but she is like so anti-my-suggestions. she keeps telling me that my nipples are too big and baby cannot latch on so not getting enough, my BM very little to feed baby, BM no good lah, baby cannot use baby powder(must buy some never-hear-before chinese powder), baby must wear disposable diapers(cloth no good, need to keep changing), nurses at hospital should have give FM to baby. wah, i so damn fed up with her sometimes.

sorry, i need somewhere to let off some steam.

tingting, at least you can give your boy EBM... i am left with only struggles and FM.

ilmare: i think ur cl is basically trying to make her own life easier. by going onto fm, baby tends to sleep longer in between feeds. tell her that its not that ur nipple is too big that baby can't latch on but rather its becoz of her not so nutricious food tat caused the lack of bm!! BM is of course good in its way coz.. its easily digestible.. and not as heaty as fm. as for the disposable diapers.. u should continue to ask her to use cloth diapers.. and demand her to wash and change each time ur boy pees or poo!! my cousin's cl is so nice that each time her baby pees and poo.. she will change and tend to the baby.. and then go and wash the diapers immediately so as not to let the stain stay! what kind of nonsense ur cl is toking about? she is basically trying to make her life easier. u do not have to give in to her! just be a bit more assertive and tell her tht no doubt this may be ur first baby, u have already read up and learnt a lot to know whats good and whats not for the baby!!! u are paying for her service!! not laziness!!

ilmare: Do persevere with bfing! Whatever it is that your cl said to you my own mom said to me when I was doing confinement with my elder child (who is now 2 yrs old). It was a v stressful time as I also had little milk and was worse when your own mom tells you your milk is no good and pushes you to give your bb FM at every feed. Drink papaya and fish soup (make sure you get GREEN papaya) everyday for both lunch and dinner and dun let up on the pumping even tho v little comes through. I eventually managed to bf me #1 for 6-7 months!

I'm a mummy: You can't stretch bb's natural need to feed at 3 hourly intervals, or 2 hourly intervals or however many hours. You need to wait for bb's stomach to grow bigger so that he can hold more milk in his tummy.

hi ladies,
anybody's discharge already finish after delivery? I just past my 4th week and still got some discharge on and off.. and there's some 'mucus' like strand in the discharge.. is this normal?

Hi Viven, Lib,
You gals are using the MIM sling right? Did you have any difficulty using the sling initially? or getting your baby into the sling initially? i was watching the vcd, and trying out the sling and using a soft toy to try out, but like doesn't fit properly leh..also, is it strenuous for the back? does it distribute baby's weight evenly? cause i have a bad back, wondering if the sling is ok for me to use or not. also, any advice when trying to put baby into the sling?

Hi Anissa, my gal screams whenever I try to put her in the bouncer. Even when she's sleeping, she wakes up the moment I put her down. She kinda reject the bouncer leh...
sad.gif

Hi Cakey, I think thats quite normal. I'm into my 6th wks and still have discharge. My gynae said that the bleeding can stretch up to 2 mths.

cmy/chemistry/I'm a mummy,
I'm using Similac for my boi. When I was down with rashes, I increased his FM feed. End up, he didn't poo for 2 days and subsequently, his poo was hard, pellet-like and he strained & cried each time when trying to poo. *stressed* Anyway, after the constipation incident, PD advised to give Friso 1 comfort instead of Similac + lots of BM. He now poos 4-5 times a day, all yellow and creamy. But apparently Friso comfort cannot drink for long cos it may result in runny stool like diarrhoe. My boi also seems to be more tummy upset when he drinks Friso. I'm now trying to pump every 2-3 hrs to feed him as much BM as possible. Quite siong cos he drinks 100-120 ml every 3 hr sharp and I can only pump abt 100ml per 3-hr. Thinking of changing to Enfalac which my fren recommends. Any mommy using Enfalac?

Re baby not sleeping in day time
Bought sarong for my boi yesterday. Life is much better now cos we can swing him to sleep.

Re infant care
Any mummy intend to send bb to infant care after maternity leave?

Re Sling,
I had a BayB sling but also don't know how to use. Seems too hot to put my boi in.

dear kris and adel

i give up on the diapers business. my boy poo poo about 3-4 times a day and his poo tends to be watery. he pooed in the afternoon and i saw that the diaper was going to be a challenge to wash. anyway, guess what, she told me that it will be diffcult to wash and the whole toilet will stink of poo (cause there was no drainage within the shower area in my common toilet), and if i insisted on diapers she say she cannot do it. i feel that she is like threatening to leave. i got no choice but tell her to switch back and throw the soiled diaper away.

my boy is on FM at night, midnight and early morning feeds. he needs to be fed like 2.5-3 hrs.

i keep telling her that i want my boy to benefit from maternal antibodies but she like cannot understand.

regarding the formula milk:
i am giving my boy nestle Nan, and we also very worried that it will be too heaty for him. so we are feeding him water, which he doesn't like, and trying to make to formula bit more diluted, this is my HB idea.
