my girl has colic problem too, just happened this week

i am totally drained out cos' i am taking care of her myself...my hubby also cannot handle her. I discovered it when she cried frantically on Tues evening without stopping, she looks very upset and cried loudly, i know she is not hungry cos' she refuse to drink and no matter how i carry and rock her, she just cry non-stop.

In the end, i took her to my baby doc and she is given a colic medicine called Infacol, need to feed her 3 times a day, she will poo greenish stuff and fart too. My girl don't burp well, or maybe i didn't burp correctly?? So trying my best to burp her after each feed, today went back to doctor and he say its perfectly normal that baby don't burp if they suckle correct.

Another thing my doctor advise is changing of milk powder, i am now using NAN 1HA HypoAllergenic, recommended to use up to 6mth.

Of course, some babie are colicky without any reason. But mainly due to wind in their stomach or digestive system no good. Must observe as they grow, normally it will be ok after 3-5mths.

In the meantime, we just have to be patient with them and comfort them if they cry.
 


Hi mummytobe, like what cat_tail says above. The thing is, if u dun do anything to it, the bm ss will gradually decrease till stop totally. My breasts will feel v. full and heavy if I din pump it out but no engorgement liao. Maybe U try not to time your pumping. For me, I just pump while watching my favourite show, Meteor Garden, and before I knew it, it's 3.5 oz liao.. then I stop lor. hehehe.. usually will take me about 30 - 40 mins depending.

Hi Anissa, maybe can hold it in 2 days instead of one? Like what Lib did, on Sat and Sun. For me, I plan to hold it at home too.. 80+ pax for Sunday only.

can pump 100ml not bad leh.. why u want to stop? i pump about 80ml every 3 hours.. but not enough for him cos he is drinking 110ml every 3 hours. i hope to be able to bf him at least until the minimum 6mths. i saw in bb boom mag, a lady wanted to bf her baby until 7 yrs old, my cousin who is a dr said this is an over exaggeration of what breastmilk can do.

cattail, my gp advises against taking medication to stop milk flow. according to her, the breast size will be be reduced due to the hormone. she said just try to pump less and slowly reduce

btw, any of u having period? funnie leh, i am having mine... i thot it comes after 2 or 3mths?
 
tulip, I intend to stop cos after the full mth, will be gg over to in law's plc with my ds and dd so very inconvenient if I hv to keep pumping. And back to work, no place for me to pump too. Do you latch ur boy to ur breast? I heard can pump after breastfeeding to aid milk flow! Though the ebm will be v. little cos of the milk bb had earlier, but it will send the signal to our brains tt bb needs more milk so milk ss will increase. Another way is to put a hot towel over our breast before pumping.

I had my period few days after the lochia stops.. till now.. still hv bits leh..
 
Hi gals, wow really pei-fu u gals.. after birth still got time to log in.. now tt after my confinement, no one is at home to help me.. everything got to DIY.. everyday seem to pass very fast tt i didn't even realise tt now is oredi 4plus..

Angel, Megan is so sweet & adorable.. Not to worry she will be fine..

thanks for the tip. i will try that. i kept trying to coordinate the pumping with the bb's feeding time.. but usually can only coordinate once a day. i will try your advice.

ya.. my period also.. suddenly a lot then after that nothing then a lot.. weird

yap counting down now ... today will be my last day at work ... starting my maternity leave on Monday ... finally ... no need to wake up to an alarm clock liao ....

hopefully i will be able to share my birth story soon ... going to see my gynae later ... hoepfully he has good news for me heehee

I finally tried using both pumps of the Ameda Lactaline at the same time. I placed a pillow on my lap, and held one bottle in each hand. basically when i needed to switch the machine off or not, to adjust the bottles etc, i balanced them on the pillow while still pumping to free one hand hehe.

wah! dual pumping (expressing both breasts at the same time) really can pump more milk leh! normally one pumping session (using one pump, alternate both breasts) i usually get about 100-130ml. The most i ever hit is 155ml. Now, by pumping both sides together, i hit about 220ml! 100ml on one side and 120ml on the other side. Saves so much time!! but i must 'practice' more and get used to this method of pumping..i kept accidentally spilling some of the milk whenever i try to balance the bottles on the pillow. ended up wasting and making a mess, if not will have even more milk kekeke

my sister says i remind her of a cow haha but no choice lah, what to do..baby drinking so fast! she feeds every 3 hourly, and now at 2 weeks old, she's drinking about 3.5oz or 100ml each feed. I need to pump faster than she feeds... cause when she grows older, will need more milk!
 
miso, what do u mean by circular motions? like sitting baby up on your lap then move his whole upper body in clockwise/anti clockwise direction? usually how long does it take for the burp to come up?

my baby is a v impatient sucker.. hard to get him to open his mouth wide enough at the beginning, and he'll just suck the nipple in... v hard to break his suction also.. haiz.. so at the beginning he tends to suck the nipple (therefore persistent sore nipple problem). Until he's calmed down a bit then he'll correct himself to the correct suckling position. but damage already done... prob is, my let down is so fast that even if he suckles wrongly, he still gets the milk, so no incentive for him to do it properly...

Hi tingting, yes.. correct, circular motion, then stop and try to burp again. I usually will try to burp, but if too long and still no burp, then stop.

mummytobe, really envy your milk supply. I'm also using dual pump and yet the highest record I ever hit is 110ml...half of yours. *sign*

Yeah i got the mag, I know can collect fr their office, but i where got time to go Lower Delta?! I can barely squeeze 1hr to rush to Compasspoint to pick up some baby stuff, then rush back coz it's time for baby's feed. He awakes every 3hr like clockwork.

i had epidural coz my labour was induced & i was feeling contractions. Then after many hrs cervix still not open, decided C-section. So since i was already on epidural, no need GA lor. During the op, I didn't feel any pain at all. Maybe the doc increased the epi dosage & gave me additional pain-killer drugs or what... i was awake thru'out & that's why hubby could be in the OT with me & he could take baby's first pictures! And we heard baby's first cry too.

1. backflow problm no matter how i positioned myself. Instd of leaning back against my headboard, i was leaning front to help stem the backflow, but still there was leakage.
2. too slow for me, even tho' i turned both dials to max.
3. too noisy
4. Same like u, dunno how to use both at the same time. Coz 1 hand holding pump, the other hand I gotto keep it free to grab tissue to catch the leakage!
I hated the leaks - got milk on my clothes, bedsheet, floor, everywhere! Sticky mess in the middle of the nite, attracted ants too. Urgh!
Good that u've got success on using both pumps together. I din know that pumping in tandem will increase supply so much!

Precisely what my gal is doing too! She cried & scream almost every evening from 7pm to 1 am! If lucky, sometimes I can manage to rock her to sleep which lasted for less than 30 mins.. and sometimes no matter how much I rock or cradle her, she just simply won't stop her cries... I am so stressed & tired in the end... So far Infacol helps u?

Jia lat, next few weeks my hubby will be outstationed for 2 weeks. Really headache on how to manage alone.

mummytobe, i also seems to have more milk from right breast..dunno whether becos i latch my bb on the right-side first... he sucks more from right, when I switch to left, he'll fall asleep very soon. so not much stimulation on left.

how much is ur babies drinking at 2 weeks?
Mine consuming 120ml of FM per feed (can last 3-4 hrs)
& if BF, only enough if I add another 60ml of EBM in addition to my 30-40mins of BF...sigh.. now i gota buy bigger milk bottles.

really scare me leh.. is he drinking too much, am i over-feeding?

cakey and wendyg, tks so much for sharing your experience. As I may need to opt for c-section as baby is still breeched, keeping my fingers crossed that baby will turn down at the last moment, your experiences will really help me in deciding whether to go for GA, epidural or spinal. By the way, are epidural or spinal different? Something to ask the gynae when I see him on Wednesday.
 
Hi cat_tail, reenie and applejuz.. seems to me your babies are suffering from colic cos it happens daily arnd the same time? Sad to say, there is no cure for colic, but the least we cld do is to help lessen their suffering by soothing them with music, rocking, etc.. whatever means which can make them feel comfy. Maybe infacol, gripe water or changing of FM will help too.

Hi applejuz... my gal at 2 weeks also consume arnd 120ml of FM which can last her arnd 2 hrs. Sometimes an hr later she will cry for milk, my cl will offer her ebm instead cos she says it's not as filling as FM. Once she had enaf, she will sleep peacefully for 2 - 3 hrs. Also have to make sure she's cool enaf to sleep, so sometimes have to on the air con in the room to let her sleep. Dun worry about overfeeding your baby, he will know when is enaf.

Hi gals, anyone experienced bb suffer from block nose? My bb seems suffer from block nose whenever i switched on the aircorn (about 1-2 hr only) My air-corn temp only 27 degree. Do your let your bb sleep in air-corn room?

Where will you be holding your baby's full mth? The condo refuses to let us book 2 sessions on the same day. Thot od doing it in 2 diff dates but the other date already fully booked cos of mooncake festival

Hi cat_tail, can move to ur parents' or in laws' place during the 2 weeks ur hb is outstationed? Btr to hv someone arnd to help you if you cannot cope. JMHO.

Hi cmy, sometimes I do let my gal sleep in air con room cos she's afraid of heat. Just like me. U might wish to bring ur bb to see a PD and get the nose drop to ease the blocking.

How's your baby's rashes? my baby girl developing heat rash around the neck also, and some on her forehead. They disappear when we put her in aircon room, but they reappear when we switch off the aircon.Also notice that she perspires quite easily. What did you use for the rashes? the pharmacist told me to use calamine lotion..it helps, but the problem still there leh.. some told me to use desitin creamy for her heat rash, but the pharmacist says desitin creamy for nappy rash only..sigh..any advice?

Does your baby cry when she or he is being bathed? my baby girl starts crying from the moment we start bathing her till the time we stop bathing her. After that she is fine. Any advice on how to calm her? We play music, sing song, hush or use soothing voices to calm her also like not much effect leh...i hear her cry until my heart very pain

1. backflow problm -
i face this problem also, but it seems to happen no matter which pump i use - ameda, medela mini electric or avent ISIS. For the ISIS, the milk even flows under the rubber petals! like you, i have to lean forward from time to time to help the milk flow into the container..

2. too slow
- for me the speed ok haha cause its much faster than the medela mini electric which i was using previously, and the avent isis i use until hand tired.

3. too noisy
- its much quieter than the medela mini electric, so i have no complains on this keke

4. leakage-
me also got leakage, especially now when i'm still getting used to using both pumps at the same time. Like you, i got milk on my clothes, bedsheet, floor, everywhere! and my hands also become sticky...sigh..

So you find the avent isis better? do you get lots of bubbles with the isis? i find that i get lots of bubbles when i use the isis. and like i mention, the milk backflows under the petals and leaks out, and makes a mess. end up wasting milk...

Hi mummytobe, my baby also got baby rashes on last weekend due to the hot wheather. He refused to sleep due to the rashes. Finally, we applied the desitin cream to him. It's work. Now he doesn't have the rashes anymore. Hope this help.
 
hi mummytobe, i initially cleaned his face after every feed. aircon env helps also.. think they will go away in time anyway, so now his situation is better but still got bits here n there.. i find keeping them cool effective..

re bathing:
mine cries sometimes, he sounds like we're trying to murder him! i find that a good time is when baby's alert n awake.. then try talking to him abt what u'll be doing along the way, using soothing tone.. i find my boy focusing his attention on me during this time, like in a trance... sometimes when he realised halfway what was happening then he let out his cry...haha..

re nose block:
my boy suffers from it too.. sometimes can see that both of his nostrils are nearly blocked.. so poor thing... has to gasp for air during feeding n crying.. mentioned this to PD, but she didn't give any medication except advise to clear w tissue if it's near the edge of the nose. if blockage is v serious try to avoid aircon. but sadly he gets cranky when feeling hot, so we try to place him in non aircon during daytime n in aircon room at night, but temp at abt 28 deg.

wendy, i didn't see Dr Lin in the end, cos receptionist made a mistake n he was on leave.. so saw another Dr Lim, but dun find her good..v brief n give really vague responses to our questions... think will shop ard before settling on one.

I have just change the FM from Mamex to NAN (the one my hospital feed her) & somehow it seems like she's quite happy with it. She's not crying a lot but still the 7pm nightmare is unavoidable. Everynite I am rotating my rocking & singing shift with hubby every hour. Hands & mouth very tired..

As for the outstation, coincidently my MIL & mother all also travel out.. so I am thinking to get my CL back again to tie over.

do u have problem getting letdowns? I realised my milk supply is always up and down....50ml if I only experienced 1 letdown, up to 120ml if there's 2. Anyone got tips on how to encourage letdowns more effectively? I tried to relax and think of my boi but effect is erratic.

yes, the infracol is good, i am feeding her 3 times per time, help her to pass out all the GAS, she will fart alot :p but its extremely smelly,even the poo!!! I am using the NAN 1HA Hypoallergic, use till 6mth then see how.....its really nitemare for me and hubby too when comes to evening hours.....but no choice, colic babies are like these.

Huggies...take a rest when she nap, take turn with hubby in rocking or soothing her, i try to be patient and understand her need for comforting

I find playing soft music and with the room cooling helps to relax and maybe achieve letdown. But i often feel sleepy then and sometime dose off with bb hehe..

I'm holding bb full mth at my own 5-rm new flat.. u kno nowadays..new flat very small.. mine are those with passageway to bedrms.. so make my livin rm even smaller...will have to think of how to stagger the timeslots for guests...

my boi also has heat rash on the cheek, neck & now even T-zone.
has been applying Johnson's baby cream. quite effective though.. the cheek & neck ones already dissapear.

the 7pm nightmare lasted until we give him FM... cos I usu latched him on ard 4pm(when he wakes up fr his aft nap after his 12pm FM feed),5pm,6pm..almost every hr.. think he dun have enough milk..until my nip cannot tahan liao...

To check with you gals, how much does yr bb drink for EBM? My girl has been taking 120ml of EBM since week 4 and she now moving to week 6.

We have been sleeping in a non-aircon room if the weather is still alrite juz circulate with fan since girl returns home. If we on the a/c it will be 28degree celcius.

my boy loves his bathtime! Dun think he ever cried coz we get the water temperature correct. Spend a few $$ to buy a bath thermometer.. we aim for 37 deg for baby's comfort.
Try talking & singing to him thru'out the bath session.

wendy, so nice of Isaac during bathtime.. mine starts wailing when we clean his face with cotton wool! gets worse when we strip him... sometimes he's cooperative lah, so cannot "condemn" him too much here..hehe...

bb Ernest has just discharged from the hosp 2 daes ago.... was in the hosp for 3daes... so heart pain to see bb plc under the uv ray...now his jaundice is gettin better...bring him to sun bath every mornin n evenin time....

my bb has change his name to Ernest Tan... (old folks prefer tiz name...even the chinese name also change ...) well, as long as the name is not too weird...i think is fine for my bb...

leakage
i also havin tis problem...epslly when feedin bb on 1 side, the other side will leak. i gotta use a tower to cover it.

EBM
i can pump out abt 220ml at 1hr+ time...sometime after feed the bb, i still can pump out abt 60-80ml... now i store the EBM in the freezer... im using the medela PIS...is very good! highly recommend tiz pump to u gals... b4 tt i was using the Avent Manual pump... i pump till my hands so tired...

notice tt my engorgement come back after 1-2hours even after i empty my breast. but now using the PIS, is kinda relief for me...

todae is my 1st dae bathed my bb. hubby has started work todae. think bb is quite satisfied wit my bathin skill. cos he didnt cry at all... "phew"

heat rash
my boy also hav heat rash...but after apply the cream given by PD, now is better liao. the rash has gone... :eek:)

Diapers
you gals know where can get Mummy Poko for new born?? i think mummy pokko is not bad too... now bb Ernest is using pampers premium...tried once for the mummy pokko for bb, i think is equally good as pampers premium...

guess wat, durin pregnancy, thot using nappy for bb, but now end up using diapers all day long. more convenient and more comfortable for bb...

any idea/suggestion for bb full months? besides the Neo Garden Catering...

went 4 routine check today, already 39wks, but bb head still not engage. gynae measured n say my bb head is big, maybe e reason for not engage. if next wk check still e same, may hv to consider e option of c-section. rather upset cos i've always thot i can deliver naturally.

My gal will also cry most of time when bathing. On some lucky days she will only cry softly for a while. The thing is.. she dun like her mittens to be removed. Once removed, she will cry like nobody's biz! aiyo.. really jin shou zhi. haha..

today i had my refresher course on how to bath bb.. almost 2 yrs.. forget how to do liao. this week is my final week of confinement. next monday, cl lady going back malaysia
