Hi Moshimoshi,

I am keen to look at the booklist. How can i do that?

I hv no idea at all what is my boy's term 4 like. There is no update or paper informing me of anythg at all. Din even noe if there is a yr end concert. The most recent form is one which inform us abt a HFMD case in one N2 class.

Chloe, Happy 4th Birthday, hope you have a great time with your family and friends.

Helen, Chloe shares the same birthday as Kai.

Apricot, it's just a personal review of the "product". ha.. not in zoo-phonics. Husband not supportive of my part time job. Quit.

Chloe's mum, how's your new job? Out of curosity, did you quit because of higher pay or you hated your present job? Just comparing notes because I'm in more or less the same situation as you.

Moshi, regarding Scholastic book order. There's a book which I thought was quite good and you may want to consider. The title is "Hoover's bride". It's about Hoover who does not keep his house clean till one day he was introduced to Elecktra, the vacuum cleaner. He's so happy with her that he married her! You can find rimes in it too. Here's an extract:

Said the priest,"While this seems like the strangest alliance, I now pronounce you Man and Appliance."
Stepping outside, they were pelted with rice. But they swept up the stairs, leaving everything nice.

Star & Jan, At first we did thought of package tour to Japan. Then we were told morning call at 6.30am, meet at lobby by 7am. Breakfast finish by 7.30am. Killing man! Don't think the kids can take it. I believe travelling should be fun, relaxing and taken at a more leisurely pace. Not to add more stress and start screaming at the kids to make sure we catch up with the group! It won't be nice for the group to wait for one family. You know what I mean?

So we decided to take the F&E route. Will take lots of maps for you mummies. But to know more, Meilan would be the best person and I think Pris too. They live there for a short while.

Pris and Helen,

Happy Birthday to Kai and Chloe.

hi Serena

We went to turkey on a package last year. There were 5.30 wake up calls and we made sure the kids at least had their milk and rest was done on the bus. It wasn't that rush.

hi mommies,
yeah finally hubby's back & i can "kidnap" his laptop, log in & read the archives. hee hee suffered "withdrawal syndromes" for the past week, wondering what all of you have been chatting about :p

thanks for the generous sharing of ideas. i have been trying to play games with chloe but she is not very keen though. probably it will work better if she plays with other children.

time flies, starting my new job on monday. hope i can still log in here to de-stress.

hi kai,
happie happie birthday!!

hi pris & worrymom,
chloe says thank you!

hi serena,
i was in my ex co for 6+ yrs, just felt it was time to move on & to have a change of environment. of course, better remuneration also plays a part
happy.gif

enjoy planning for your trip. which part of US will you be going at end of the year?

hi serenade,
does brandon enjoy this morning's JG class?

i asked chloe what she learnt and she replied "dunno"! she didnt remember tu lao shi taught her kong1 tiao2 (actually i also didnt know that air con is called kong1 tiao2, i always thought it is leng3 qi4 ji1 kee kee)

Did not mean to scare u gals or support me..I was in my current co for coming 13yrs..ya, work there since I graduated from polytechnic..wanted to change job but has been unsuccessful. Anyhow, co is undergoing cost cuttings so I really hope to get the retrenchement package, get the money and find a part-time job. I find that I need to spend more time with my 3 boys. Wish me luck !!

Was MIA for quite a while as I seldom has chance to have access to PC. Either hubby was using or busy with chores and cooking.

Serena,
So have you tendered your resignation? Thanks again for spending time with me that day..

HaPpY BiRtHdAy to Kai & Chloe!!

Apricot
Wish for you to get retrenched as wished. best of luck. 4yrs ago before my pregnancy, I was hoping for retrenchment from a local bank where I've worked for more than 5yrs but guess what?? Most of my colleagues got retrenched but not me. Instead, I was transferred to Tampines when I'm staying in Bukit Batok. So after having Benny, I decided to throw in my letter and spend all of my time with kid.

ky
I didn't manage to get the chinese sinseh's phone number. I think I did post it in thread quite sometime ago. Will continue to search for it.

Joanne, it's good to hear from you again. Hope Benny is doig fine.

Chloe's mum, haven't planned out exactly which part of U.S we are going yet. I'm not too concern with the U.S trip because this is our 3rd trip there. We are now focusing more on our Japan trip.

Apricot, you mean this was your one & only job?!! Wow, they must treat you very well for you to stay on.

BTW, There's a promotion under Starhub now. If you sign up for their broadband package of $94 per month, you get a free laptop. My husband is thinking of this promotion to pass me the laptop. Maybe, you girls can consider if you're always waiting for husband to free the computer for your use.

Just had my health screening, the verdict? I've got high cholesterol!! Doctor says need to monitor my diet and go back for review 6 months later. No more red meat and seafood for me. Sob... so sad.... Can't believe this is happening to me. No beef, no duck, no lamb, no prawns, no crabs, no scallops. All my favourites!! Urgh... my friend told me my mentality is that I'm skinny, so I just gobble up whatever food I want without second thoughts. That's quite true. Since I hardly put on weight.

Hi Jo,
Yeah, it's nice to hear from U again !!! Wana try Yu Guo ? Tel# 64474761.

Hi Serena,
Bingo ! Yes, this is my one & only job. The environment is too comfortable, many things to learn and great colleagues to work with minimal office politics. So this is why I stay there for these years. But now, really xian cos many are retrenched and I simply no mood return to work cos got to cover more people jobs, title remain & no pay adjustment. Doesn't this sound like SAHM job...ha ha...

Serena,
I have a skinny friend with extreme high cholestrol. She has the same mentality as for no matter how much she eats, she'll never gain weight thus always gobbling red meat and seafood especially stewed belly which is her fav. You can still take seafood and red meat, but in moderate portion. Did doc give you any medication to lower your cholestrol level?

Apricot
I'm trying to search for the chinese sinseh in Teck Whye for ky. BTW Yu Guo is chinese medicine hall in Sengkang area? My sis is staying in Punggol and she might need one. Her baby frequently down with flu, suggested her to bring her baby to chinese sinseh instead GP.

Hi Joanne,
How's Benny doing? Hope he is recovering well.

Hi Apricot,
WOW, first job! Very loyal worker hee hee. Is the company not doing well? Economy is so good, isnt it time to hire than retrench?

Hi Serena,
Yeah, i used to have high cholestrol too. I think it's because I love eggs (esp the yolks eg in mooncakes) and pastries, and I dont put on weight no matter how much I eat. Skinny dont mean healthy! Do you exercise? I have wanted to take up yoga but have been procrastining for the longest time....

hi

I need chinese sinseh recommendations for adult, preferably in the west. It's for my helper. Joanne, I'll dig the archives too.

btw, would like to find out ... if your kid's battery-operated toy is spoilt, would you
1. throw it away
2. delegate to your hubby to repair it
3. attempt to do it yourself?

.ky.

Kai asked me to thank all of you for wishing him a happy birthday.

Jo, glad to see you around and know that Benny is recovering well.

Here's some sharing of the stuff I made this week

Chloe's mum, ya I want to exercise. I have been looking around for a gym where they conduct classes for both adults and kids. I can enrol my girl in the kid's class then I go for the adult class. So far haven't found one that cater to my needs.

Joanne, no med yet because doc will review 6 months later. So am thinking to take these 6 months to exercise and control my diet!

Apricot, you should be well treated now because consider a pioneer in the company?

Pris, heard of using apple butter to replace the butter used in cakes? Wanted to try it but not so such how to.

Hi chloe,
B enjoys his class. He told me that he was with C most of the time
happy.gif
Yup, leng1 qi4 is the right name for aircon. Learnt that when I need some translation work done years ago. Actually, our chinese isn't really the real chinese, if you get what I mean :p We like Tu Lao Shi too. She provided feedback on B immediately after the lesson ended. Phew, at least B doesn't need to attend those classes meant for expats
happy.gif

Hi Joanne,
Glad that everything is well

Hi Serena,
My hubby has a couple of colleagues who are in the same situation. Need to be watch out their diet and exercise regulary. But aside from that, they are pretty healthy. Since medication is not required, just watch out your diet and things should be fine.

Hi Chloe,
I love mooncakes with egg yolk too! Have been munching them since 2-3 weeks ago. Think have to cut down on consumption now.

Hi Kristin's mom,
Can't help in on the phonics. That's my weakest area.

Serenade: yes. yes.. Tu lao shi is very very good.. she is good with kids too. A few of us think she is a good teacher.

Serena: how high is your cholesterol? how about the reading for the good chol? my friend's husband is ok with the bad chol but reading very bad for the good chol, so he has to eat more good fish esp salmon .

Joanne: sorry, havent got time to visit you and return you the "toy" . Hope B is recovering well. take care and we shall meet up soon ok.

Hi Meilan,

You bet. B used to come to me with all his complaints. Still does nowadays but less frequent. I'm not exactly sure what I did. But I think treating him as an "adult" helps. Whenever he comes to me with his complaints, instead of telling him what he should do, I got him to analyse the situation and find a solution for himself. Which, of course, will involve a lot of time and patience. I'll listen to his complaints and try to understand how he perceives the situation, get him to talk about his feelings, and how he wants things to be and the type of actions he think he can or should take to alleviate his bad feelings. Most importantly, I always advise him to approach the aggressor to tell him/her his unhappiness and work things out with him/her in an amicable manner (I'm still working hard on this). I'm glad that having a younger sibling helps him a lot in this aspect. Whenever they have conflicts, I am there to assess and direct them to choose the "appropriate" course of action through reasonings. I take neither sides. Both are in the wrong when they start squabbling. For instance, if C snatches a book from B, and B shouts and tries to snatch it back. I'll first reproach C that it is naughty to do so (explain to her why blah blah), then ask B if he has done the right thing, and if he would like it if C does the same thing to him in future, then wrap up the case by walking him through what he could have done. Oh yes, both would have to apologise to each other. Another thing I realise is - my reaction matters a great deal whenever someone does something naughty. That's why I try to be careful of how I handle their misbehaviour too.

KY, Joanne,
I have got the contact for the chinese Sinseh.. in Teck Whye..

Chloe, Priscilla,
Happy Belated Birthday to Chloe and Kai! How did you mommies celebrate the day?

Moshi,
Happy Birthday to Mel! Told H that she's celebrating birthday in school, and she said "Then I cannot celebrate her birthday, I can't go to her school." Haha

Thank you auntie sarah and hannah, mwah!

we just had the bday sing song session, Mel was so co=operative for the first time, gave her best 'cheeeez' in front of the camera, it's amazing what power teachers and friends have on her!

Happy Belated Birthday to Chloe and Kai!

Hi Worry_Mum, many many thanks!

To Chloe, Kai, Melody, Happy Birthday!

Hi Serena ... tahan a while on the diet. knows it's probably difficult to curb on the good food, but since it's doctor's orders ... btw, thanks for the DVDs. I've passed them onto worry_mum to pass back to you. I realize that I cannot bear to watch movies with high-tension scenes involving babies/young kids ...

btw, I too like zoophonics :> Have been doing this with K for a few weeks now and he loves it, more so than B ever did! B's forgotten almost everything coz I've not done with him for 2 yrs now, but he is picking up quite well with his phonics. btw, SVPS (for those in CCK) uses Zoophonics for P1.

leng3 qi4 is what we used in Singapore, whereas kong1 tiao2 is what is used in China ... so I supposed tu lao shi is from China?

.ky.

Hey meilan, sarah, serenade

Hi all

Thank you for wishing Kai an enjoyable birthday.

Happy belated birthday to Mel too.

I think it will be Benjamin's birthday coming up next. In case I did not come in here for the next week as I am teaching some friends how to make the snowskin mooncakes and also preparing some goodies for a gathering with some Singaporean friends based here for Mid-Autumn Festival.

Hi Meilan

Hi Apricot

Hi moshimoshi
Melody is a nice name, where is she schooling now ? My dd name is Claudia.
Party game Maybe ask the kids to find things Eg. Since Sarah is the host, maybe ask Sarah to ask the kids to get her a watch, key etc so the kids will find where is the item that are being called and bring it to sarah. Is quite exciting and is fun.. can reward them with stickers if they found it.

Hi Serena
Don't be too upset. Health matter at least u found out the result and work together with what the doc told u. Did the doc give u any medication ? Another thing is rice, try to buy those rice with cholestrol free ? Try eating Calrose rice. You can get it from NTUC. Take care u will be fine.

Hi Kristin's mom,
These are books and titles on respect, character buliding & humility. Information was provided by my friend who is a librarian.

Consider the following which I dun know whether NLB has them or not:

1) http://titlepeek.fsc.follett.com/tp/query?action=3&subnumber=8500478&isbn=0689877323&appid=4
2) http://titlepeek.fsc.follett.com/tp/query?action=3&subnumber=8500478&isbn=0060225610&appid=4
3) Don't forget your etiquette : the essential guide to misbehavior by
David Greenberg ; pictures by Nadine Bernard Westcott.

I think poems are not easy to be used to teach the topics u are talking abt...Story books are probably better for the child to relate to the topics cos there's a background in the story which the child can relate to his own experience.

U can try books like :

1) http://titlepeek.fsc.follett.com/tp/query?action=3&subnumber=8500478&isbn=1404800344&appid=4
2) http://titlepeek.fsc.follett.com/tp/query?action=3&subnumber=8500478&isbn=1404810536&appid=4
Books on respect are found at 179 section of nonfiction books
3) http://titlepeek.fsc.follett.com/tp/query?action=3&subnumber=8500478&isbn=0060286229&appid=4
4) http://titlepeek.fsc.follett.com/tp/query?action=3&subnumber=8500478&isbn=0152020136&appid=4
5) http://titlepeek.fsc.follett.com/tp/query?action=3&subnumber=8500478&isbn=0060287616&appid=4

Hi Serenade, thanks for sharing on how u handle the kids' misbehavior. Will learn your "wu lin mi ji" to handle my son with his cousin and next time with his bros.

Hi Serena,
Nope, I am not pioneer there. I am working in MNC and there are already many who work there for more than 10yrs.

kong1 tiao2 = aircon in china and zixingche=bicycle, it's interesting to know how these are named , just like gas station in america and petrol kiosk here;)

hey serena
my sis is skinny like u, had high cholesterol but now it's at the healthy level, she cut down on seafood and the results show in a few months. no worries, it's just an effort to change your diet towards the greens and white meat;) I need to eat healthily too, too much carboh and not enough fruits n veg.

Hi star
Treasure hunt? great idea!
lemme check with sarah what items we can borrow from her house.
Melody's attending Zion Bible Kindy in Bishan, how about Claudia?

wow apricot
great research there on the books!

hi ky
about the toy, if it;s a cheap one and Mel doesn't ask to play it, then we'll leave it alone. But if it's something that's dear to her, Hub will fix it. I am no DIY woman. Yourself?

Hi Serena, agree that a holiday should be a holiday. Although packaged tours may offer better value, will not enjoy as much if do it F&E especially with young kids. Please don't bother about taking maps. Just enjoy your holiday and share your experience.

Re high cholesterol, don't worry - you will be fine. Few years back, my cholesterol was high too. Didn't consciously do anything different. My last health screening about 2 mths ago showed good cholesterol is high (!?!) but body fat is higher than recommended i.e. I'm fat. However, I still carry on with chocolates, ice cream, fried food....guilty! Just made a promise to bring kids to run during weekends.

Hi Serena / Apricot, agree that our kids mirror our behaviour. Problem I face is they spend large part of their day in school and pick up bad habits from friends which is so difficult to correct. The way my son speaks is sometimes so rude. I keep reminding him and feel like a nag. He always apologises but in the next instance, he forgets again. sigh... My daughter uses violence to resolve conflicts becoz in her class, that's what most of the class boys do. Her hands are quick to react and she is even proud to declare that "I scratch him back". *faints*

Hi Apricot, one of my insurance plans comes with full health screening every 3 years which I didn't appreciate when I was younger (heheehe!). The tests cost more than $200, based on the fee schedule displayed. It's also an employee medical benefit for some companies.

hey ky
The pinata for the party's a great idea! mel had one during her 2nd bday, my friend made one for her, the kids took turns to hit it and had fun fighting for the treats that rained down on them.
Does anyone work near Concourse? i know the shops there sell pinatas.

Hi mommies!

Sorry for not being more explicit earlier, I was actually thinking of humility in this manner:

You know, it's a big thing for many kids when they don't get to win in games sometimes. And life isn't always about winning and excelling.

How's a kid gonna learn to be humble with his achievements and while at the same time live with an acceptance when he loses?

During our UNO game nights, while it is certainly fun to play and learn through games, I realise that emotionally a child needs to grow to accept failures. And my ds has a long stretch to go in that area.

Already there are many things on the agenda right now. Their feelings begin to show, like anger, pride, jealousy etc. So what do you moms do to help your children express/relieve the negative feelings? How does your child show respect for people who lose or in real life show respect for the weak?

Sometimes I wish that my old grandmas would still be alive to tell my children of all the hardships that they went through when they were little. How do we teach our children not to take things for granted and respect life? Or even simple things like being thrifty and not wasteful when it comes to food? Respect objects for their values?
