(2003) Calling all 2003 babies

Hi all

Lots of posting in the thread that I am too lazy to stroll back to read.

Joanne, keep us update on Benny. He is a brave boy and we are all praying that it is a successful operation.

Just share my homemade bak kwa (We are craving for this as the one that sold here is not as tasty and nice as the one in Singapore.) and I am glad that it is quite successful and the taste is closer to the one we get in Singapore.

Hi SJ/Apricot,

I used to be an EAST kid too. Moved from Marine Crescent to Simei to Pasir Ris and finally Hougang after I married. Parkway and Katong Shopping centre used to be my hunt place after P6 and secondary school.

I hope to be able to move back to east next time.

Apricot, the price of the ladybird series 1 is correct. before discount $27.82 for 6books. But i did not check out @ Times. I do hv the member card if u need it.

Hi Sherlyn

That's why I said each kid is different. B can... and he gets really tired if he's not in bed at 10pm. He gets into bed at 9pm. I guess that's bcos from young, whenever I let him sleep at 2 sthg, he'll wake up at 5, and then be in bed by 9pm. It's a routine ... so you've to figure out what's the best routine for yours. And btw, he wakes up early in the morning at 7+ and have school from 8+ to noon, so that's perhaps why he could be more tired than yours.

We went for the movie, Artic Tales, last night. actually a very sad documentary, to me. It's abt how global warming is affected the lives of the creatures living in the artic. The movie's actually quite lovely...

Hi helen
good to hear that chloe's well.
what's disney playhouse book? from SCV? Mel's photo appeared in Singapore's Child Sep issue, check it out if u have one;)

Hi Pris
Home-made bak kwa? how's that done?

Hi ky
Did it feel 'cold' watching the docu? Artic, must be very lovely. Did B manage to finish the docu? The kids were fidgeting 60min into the movie.

Exciting East:
wow, seems many have lived there, i was never East kid but i love going to the east, for recreation, for food, for dating, for anything! and we always use the TPE, the friendliest expressway in Sg;)

hi moshi,
disneyplayhouse (SCV channel 34) complies the photos of children whose birthday fall into that month into a "book". quite nicely done, you can catch it at 1125am everyday. not sure which day chloe's photo will be telecasted though.

hey you know what, i was just looking at your blog's photos & i realised both chloe & melody won in the same "me & my osh kosh contest". they were just 8 months old then

Ladies, the recipe for the bak kwa is found in my blog under the recipe section.

K's mum, surprising bak kwa is pretty easy to make and I am so happy that I try out the recipe but did a little modification to it. And if you have an oven at home, try it.

Serena and moshimoshi, I used the oven to bake and grill the bak kwa.

Joanne, so happy for you and Benny. Hooray!!

Chloe Mak??? The one in denim dress with tongue sticking out?? What coincidence!!
Can't tell it's her but it's a kawaii shot!

Shall we go for another one and put them together again?? ;)

Hi K's mom
Quack quack, duckies are back from tour, they each got a quacker thing, like a duck's bill whistle. all the excited duckies started honing their quacks with it, and the best quacker? Zavier! He has got oomph in his lungs man!

It was a good tour except for the hot air we got while on land. Brandon had wanted it to fly, not a bad idea actually!

Worrymom
Another coincidence here, Henry (My friend's son) was also born on 26 Sep! So Ben and Henry are exactly a year apart;)

the duck tour idea in itself is already a whole lot of fun. And imagine the kids went on a duck tour with mainly kids they knew. it's the ultimate duck tour excursion!

it must have been a quacking fabulous experience...

hey brandon,
what do we know? Ducks waddle on land, swim in the pond and of course they fly too! You've gotta tell the duck tour people that. How can they not have a complete package?!!!

wow.. u mummies are early come back to this forum..

Hi Worrymum,
Ya lor, we did not have a gp pic with the "duck".
We are just too busy with kids and chattings.
Next time, I will remind everyone in future outings

Hi Jan and moo87,
Nice meeting you gals! Do join us for the other gatherings

Hi mommies,
Yup, think the duck tour is really fun though kind of short. Can't believe an hour had passed when it was over. I enjoyed the ride on water more than on dry land though.

Hi Kristin's mom,
Halfway through the ride, B asked me when we were going to blast off into the sky. I was like, er, it's not going to fly. And he went BUT DUCKS FLY. haha... need to catch and show him some non-flying ducks :p

Hi Serenade,
Agree, the duck tour is kind of short or I shld say it's rather short gathering today. How I wish we can find a place where the kids can play on their own safely and we mommies can talk, chat as long as we can..

Hi Apricot,
Very true. We weren't having the best seating arrangement for lunch today. Hardly talk to you and the rest cos of our seats. Like your suggestion. Let's do it the next round!

Btw, you look fabulous despite having 2 newborns! And don't worry abt the figure, you will be regaining it back soon
happy.gif
Can't wait to meet the twins on 29th Sep!

Hi Sarah,

Thanks for the effort in organizing the duck tour and lunch..

Nice meeting to all mummies + kids @ duck tour.

Hi Serenade, glad to meet up and chatted for short time.. we shall do more next rd..

Zavier told HB tt the darla, the duck bus drove on road and went for a swim.. And my dear HB "mountain tortise" says r u sure n u do not need to get down the bus... he was mad wif dd...

Apricot, would love to cuddle yr twins on 29th Sep.. cant help but overhear Lawrence's comment... too young...too many pple..

Pris, looking at your bak kwa made me very hungry, not to mention the montage of the other pastries. When are you coming back to S'pore? Can make us something please?

You guys seem to have a great duck tour! Last year we did all 3 at a steal of $33 - duck tour, DHL balloon and Hippo bus (for X'mas light-up)! Till now, JK still talks abt all these.

Too bad I can't join the gathering on 29 Sep. Would have been able to join on 30 Sep. By the way, is 1 Oct a day off at childcare centres too?

Sherlyn, are you switching Jing An to a later session next year? I wanted JK to switch from 11.15am class to 8.15am class but decided against it since it would be quite rushed for all of us. Even now on certain days when he has a field trip or combined session at 8.15am, it is extremely difficult to get him on his sch bus by 7.40am. I guess being a SAHM allows me the luxury to opt for the later session.

Hi Meilan,
Oct1 is not off day for Aston's CC. They are celebrating it and parents are invited to join in the fun. I am so excited with this invitation
happy.gif

Serena, thanks for your concern. Maid problems revolve around managing my mum who has found many shortcomings on my helper while my helper seems to be taking the opportunity to test boundaries. She has been raising the issue that new Indon maids now have a salary increase. Currently, I still find her ok but my stand is the she is free to go anytime since she has no loan/bond and I'm sure the above-mkt-rate package I'm offering is still very attractive to other experienced maids.

Sometimes I wished my kids would grow up quickly so that I can cope better on my own. I am giving myself another 2 years.

Joanne, pls keep us updated on Benny's post-surgery developments. Hope you see the light to the end of the tunnel soon.

Apricot, surprised to learn that 1 Oct is not an off day since it's children's day. But it's nice to be able to join the celebration and observe the interaction bet the kids and the teachers right? When are you going back to work by the way?

By the way, just to check, are all the kids here able to recognise the Chinese characters of 1 to 10? I've been focusing so much on JK's slow progress on his alphabet that I've overlooked his Chinese but was very disappointed to find out today that he hardly recognise any Chinese characters despite speaking quite a lot of Mandarin. This is after 1 whole year of childcare which covered much more than this plus the past months at his present nursery. I think I just killed his interest today by drilling the character "si4" (4) into him when I realised that he only knows 1 to 3. Can't believe that JK still fails to absorb after practising with him the whole day. It's been a long time since I tried to teach him something and again, he made me feel like a terrible teacher
sad.gif

Meilan,
Thanks for your concern, I am returning back to work on 15Oct. So am only left with 1.5 mths to enjoy my ML and shedding my fats to fit into last time clothings and not spending money to buy new clothes. Did not mean to stress you, my son can recognise & write chinese 1 to 10 & he learns it from CC this year. So I believe constant and regular practices will perfect anything. Jia you !

hi Meilan

I had never thought abt reading 1 to 10 in chinese till you mentioned. Yet to test on R and worst she can't speak mandarin.

When I was breathing down on R re piano, she didn't like to practice when I was around and even asked to stop her piano lessons. When she said that I backed off cos I realised I was killing her interest too. So now I stayed away and just told her to practice on her own. Things have improved for us.

Don't feel bad Meilan, as long as we knew where we had done wrong and had them corrected, it's ok.

Children at this age have very short attention span.
