(2003) Calling all 2003 babies

I have booked the function room for Sun, 29 May. So, Apricot, just nice for you. /clipart{wink}

Mother's Day gathering:
Date: 29 April
Day: Sunday
Place: Upper changi, near EXPO
Time: 11am
Lunch: Potluck

Confirmed:
1. sarah
2. moshi
3. apricot
4. moo

Anyone else?

Hi moshi2!

Kristin looked very unhappy coz she wanted to go up the pirate ship again... not on her own of course, but with either daddy or mommy carrying her. we didn't want to entertain her with another balancing act down the beam. A family fell into the water and got themselves drenched. Luckily there's a dryer for them.

Yeah... Playmobil Park is a theme park, more like a enormous adventure playground. No roller coaster rides. More suitable for young kids, like from age 3 to 7 kind of thing.

We'll be meeting Serenade in Paris in two weeks' time. Disneyland is the next destination. And we are also planning for a trip down to Legoland in Guenzburg, South Germany at the end of May. As you can gather by now, this year's vacation revolves around theme parks for the children. Thought it might be a good idea to make use of the advantage of being around in Europe for such theme parks. I think we won't be able to afford to fly back in the future to visit these places.

But Mommy would like to make a trip to Provence in Aug. hope to see lavender and sunflower fields. Am wondering if they can wait till we come back from Sg.

Hi Apricot!

Take care! Take more ginseng soup!

How was your recent trip to HK? It must have been fun shopping for Aston and the twins. Was Aston excited that he flew? Show us some pics once you are feeling better, ok?

Hi Serenade!

How do you come across all these online stores on teaching resources?
wonderbox, teachers theme park and sep 21 etc.

Got to ask you for a list of stores that offer shipping to overseas address. wonderbox doesn't do it... so will only get stuff when i'm back in Sg.

Hey mommies!

Any idea where to get those paper dolls? You know those we grew up with? Very colourful cardboard paper with dolls, dresses and accessories printed on them. All perforated and waiting to be punched out and then you can dress them up with various outfits.

I remember they used to be dirt cheap... like 20 cents per sheet. Saw some in an art and craft shop the other day. One pack costs 4,90 Eur!!! i.e. 10 SGD! Well, good quality but still... they are just paper dolls. Anyway, that got me thinking about the paper dolls I grew up with. I never had a Barbie... and paper dolls were cheap alternatives! I think with the cheap ones, I wouldn't feel the sting when my kids destroy them. Besides, they can be easily stored away too, e.g. in one huge envelope.

HK was cold for me...19, 20 degree..i thot I can cope well but turn out I suffer there. That's why I was unwell there but I still struggle go shopping...ha ha.. bot 3 shoes, 1 bag, 6 tops and 1 bottom. Afterall, I am still a shopaholic !! If I am there during summer, I will buy even more ! Aston is also a good shopper, he buy toys, umbrella, his famous bob the builder and thomas the train underwear. He totally surprised us in this 1st flight , he was perfectly fine, no discomfort in ears or whining. An hr later in the plane, he falls asleep and wakes up 1 hr before we reach HK.
Abt pics, it's rather disappointing..DH took one night pic for me and he wanted to check if there is a function to brighten the background, do not what happen he format the pics and that means del all pics...that's it !!! All pics we took for that days are all gone. I was so mad with him. He tried to make up by taking pics that night and on Tue we are flewing back to Sg. All the pics are good memories and they are just gone like that. Thus, I only have less than 10 pics to show ...better than nothing..yap, will load them onto the blog by this weekend.

Hi Kristin_mom,

Paper dolls are my fav too. I used to have alot when I was younger. I missed them so much ! If only I have kept them with me, they will become priceless. I do not think I have seen them in Spore before or either I did not look hard for them.

Hey apricot!

What are you doing? Sitting around and surfing the net?

You should be lounging comfortably and resting away....
happy.gif

Yeah... love those paper dolls too... you also no idea where to get them.... sigh, sigh!

I used to get them at the ma-ma store...

Apricot,

so sorry to hear about those pics that were accidentally deleted. But never mind... hehe, tell your husband you need to be back again to take some more pictures. Good excuse to go back again, right?

Yeah... 19-20 deg is the time when people fall sick easily... sometimes one just doesn't know how many layers to put on. Right now it's about 22 deg during the day, but early morning and late evening/night temp can be about 12deg only.

Sounds like a great shopping trip for Mommy and Aston sure knows what to get ;) It must have been fun travelling with just one kid... treasure it.

Yah, you are right, Kristin_mom. I am lazing around watch TV and surfing the net whole of today til now. Hush, hush, luckily DH will not come into this forum...I participated in 4 sprees today..looking forward to receive my "loots".
happy.gif

Seem like it is getting very quiet in here.

K's mum...glad that your family enjoyed playmobil park. Hope we have a chance to go there too before Kai is too big.

At least the temperature where you are is picking up, over here in Vancouver, highest temperature is about 8-10 degree and lowest about 2-3 degree. It was snowing for two days on 1st April and 2nd April.

Apricot...you enjoy HK? Did you go to Victoria Perk at Night for the night view, Disney HK, Snoopy Park as well as the famous night markets and night lives there.

We were in HK two years ago to visit some friends and stay in one of our friends apartment and we took a trip to Macau from there.

Serenade...wow educational spree? All ready to return back to Singapore.

We spent our long weekend last week on trail tracking that brought us to another suspension bridge in North Vancouver, Sat and Sun with friends in Downtown and Mon lazing around at home.

Will MIA as next week we are heading to Seattle with some friends.

K's mum...you can get the paper doll from the shop that sells party, decor and toys for children near Bugis area and concourse in Singapore. I saw them when I was there last September.

Hi Pris!

The Concourse at Beach road, roger there!

really haven't checked out that place. Must make a trip down this time... calling all SAHMs, interested to make a field trip down??? With kids or without kids... gotta do babysitting logistics... haha!

now i really need to get organised and jot down the things I want to do in Sg. otherwise things will just slip my mind.

Envious of all your travel adventures. It's always easy with one. So treasure all the holidays with Kai before the second one comes along.

Suspension bridge? How did Kai manage that? Think Bryan and Kristin will freak out!

Just finished my unpacking from the long weekend. Still have backlogs of laundry to do. And we'll be leaving in two weeks' time for vacation again... hurrah! Why did I even unpack???

Am not too sure if there's a Playmobil Park in Canada. There are two in the States. Maybe you can still check them out!

Pris, you are lucky coz you had a snowed out winter. We the Europeans here had a snowless winter, sniff!!!! I love snow!!! And the cold blue winter skies! But now spring here is getting a tad too warm, too quickly. Maybe the summer will be wet and rainy.... the seasons are getting it all wrong this year, funny! The environmentalists will blame it on the universal global warming etc... better not say too much coz I'm guilty of that too...oops! So I have all of myself to blame, ha!

Hi Serenade!

You've got mail... just realised my email marathon reply to you... it took three days for me to get it out of my draft box. Someone would be up when I opened up the mail to write.

Bad news... dh said that one of his bosses wanted to have a trip on Apr 27... I'm hoping the lazy Europeans here have already booked their vacation. Fingers crossed on that one.
Otherwise it would mean we have to drive to Brussels first and then only arrive really late in Paris that night... what a torture for the kids, or rather a greater onr for me during the horribly long road trip.

Hi kristins_mom,

Anything to entertain the kids during the car trip? Children songs? Once I brought the laptop along so that the kids could watch some shows.

About the online stores, found some when I was back in Sg 3 years ago. Others, I came to know them through the various forums. Think ky knows more than me. :p

September21 is worth dropping by cos it carries a huge selection of resource books/materials for teachers. Some can be modified for homeschooling. There are two online bookstores that I usually browse - wonderbox and www.whoopeekiddies.com. Sometimes, the books maybe cheaper than wonderbox and they provide shipping overseas. For shipping to France, I rely on amazon most of the time. But you can check out Towerrecords.com. Sometimes, they have pretty good promotions and prices can be lower than amazon. One thing I realised is - it is cheaper to get hardcover books from amazon.com and have them shipped to France. Not sure about Germany, though.

Other online stores -
www.elc.sg
www.edventure.com.sg
http://www.kiddystuff.com/index.php

I'm a member of GrowingFun. Can always get the member card from me. Think there's 10% discount, if I'm not wrong.

Let me know if you need anything from teachersthemepark (moshi2's recommendation).

Paper dolls - saw this link on another forum http://crayola.com/canwehelp/products/cutter/new_styles.cfm

Been hooked on another forum for the last few days.(It was so quiet here.) Think I'm going to stop visiting other forums except here
happy.gif
A friend told me she was addicted to online surfing and forums when she was in France. But once back in Sg, she has no time for such activities. Hopefully it will be the same for me... Anyway, my internet connection will be cut off a week after the Paris trip. Think that will be the detox period for me, hehe...

Hi kristins_mom,
We haven't visited much of France. But I heard a lot of good comments about Provence. Forget about Nice and visit Brittany, that's what I was told by the french. Be sure to drop by the walled city - St Malo. Annecy which is located between Geneva and Chambry has beautiful scenery.

France is pretty much a child friendly place in terms of nursery. So, not much problem for us when we were travelling.

Here's a pic of the sunflowers we took in 2004

Hi Priscilla,

Yup, getting all excited to return home
happy.gif
. Though I have grown to like the laidback country life, we are growing rather restless. Brandon is also excited by the idea of going back to Sg. He has been "helping" with the packing since months ago.

Educational spree? haha, I can't wait to entertain the little ones with those educational stuff and trips besides books. Did you check out the teachersthemepark? Everything looks so tempting. I must be cautious not to turn my place into a mini kindy :p

Kristins_mom is right. Travel more before the second baby arrives. It's much easier.

Welcome back, Minnie!

Hi Apricot,
That's a lot of sprees! Any good recommendations?

Btw, have you ever bought branded clothes from the sprees? Are they truly authentic? My hubby keeps warning me not to join those sprees cos he doubts their authenticity.

Hi mommies,
Any idea what happens to Sarah? Is her pc alright? Hasn't been seeing her dropping by for sometime...

Hi Moshimoshi & Apricot,
Can email me your orders by the end of this month? Will process them once I come back from the Paris trip
happy.gif
.

moshimoshi, are those with smell cut-outs or stickers? Did you get the cut-outs or mini cut-outs? I'm torn between the two. The big apple tree looks so interesting. Very tempted to get it... Any idea if the apple cut-outs can stick onto it?

At least Mel let you put away the scented stickers. I doubt it will be that easy with my kids...

Mel's school is pretty interesting, as in there's a lot of parental involvement. Does all church kindies work this way too?

Hi Priscilla,

This is my 6th time to HK and I enjoyed every time I am there. This time becos I am preggie, movements are bit difficult so we only go to Ocean Park, shopping at Times Sq & Tai Koo & Stanley Market, streets markets at Causeway Bay and Central and window shopping along Nathan Road. We intend to bring Aston and the his two little bros to visit Disneyland few yrs later so opt out Disney HK this time.

Serenade, I like the sunflower pic !!!!
happy.gif
Well taken !
No authenticity issues. I have been buying Old Navy or GAP from the sprees becos we still have to visit the online ordering to make our choices and submit our orders to the organiser. So far, I only buy ON, GAP, Birthdaydirect & Bikenstock. I am very pleased with the pdts so far.

Hi Serenade!

Thanks for the tips on online stores. Will ask ky more for advice when back in Sg again. Btw, where is ky these days?

Entertaining the kids on road trips?
1) Errmmm, we usually travel either in the mid morning or after lunch so that the kids will snooze for a while. Whenever they snooze, we'll drive as far and fast (within speed limit of course) as possible.

2)Children songs? Bryan's crazy about Julia DOnaldson now. You know we had A Squash and a Squeeze on repeat the whole journey down to Nuremberg and back. We also have the usual Christian kids music. But he's also only fixated on one song "Moses went down to see Pharoah" until Kristin can sing some words of it.

3) Think this time round I'm gonna try some audio books, like those very dramatically read ones with sound effects from Julia Donaldson's stories. As you can see, Bryan is going through the JD craze now.

4) How about playing some games with Brandon? Like "I spy" or get him to do mental sums.

5) Usually it's the younger one who gives us more trouble. She'll be fussing when she sits too long or when the sun is in her face. Quite bad now since the temperature is climbing.
Sometimes we can stop all the fussing with some snacks for her. She's a greedy girl. Thus, easy to bribe her with food. But not very good for long drives and the sitting down... so food only in moderation.

We will always stop after two hours plus so that the kids can run about for a while and stretch.

But whatever I do, never sit in the backseat with them! It's definitely a torture coz they will be fighting for Mommy's attention.

When did you see such a beautiful sunflower field? Which time of the year? It's so hot now that I think by the time we are back from Sg, we'll be left with only burnt fields. It's so hot here today, 30 deg C! Pris, aren't you envious of us now???

So you're the one who's not been posting much here... haha!!! I think you'll probably spend less time online in SG too. You see, weekends are usually packed with visiting the grandparents or taking the kids out. There's so much to do over the week, like dropping off/picking Brandon up from kindergarten. That alone can be quite a journey every day for the kids. Hmm, maybe even Cheryl will be attending a nursery. Are you going to let her start school too? You know, chances are she wants to be with Brandon when you drop him off in school. Kristin always runs into Bryan's class and refuses to leave. This couple of days she's been mentioning to me that she misses one of Bryan's friends. She'll say his name and make a sign at the door and wants to leave right away as if she wants to go pay him a visit. Ok... got a little side-tracked from what I wanted to say... you'll be spending time at the bookstore, swimming pool, library, meeting other SAHMs from this forum, playground, zoo, bird park(gd weather all the time)or science/discovery centre that you won't even remember the Internet. Sigh... this forum will be really quiet then
happy.gif

hi KY!

how have you been? gathered you must have been having fun homeschooling Ben? must be exciting to see how he's responding to your teaching at this amazing speed in application.

Bryan always remind me that we have to pray for Ben every night. I think he can't forget Ben after having known him from the blog. Now I really regret sending the kids off to the zoo and went off to meet you and Meilan when I was back in Sg. It was definitely an easier time for me without the kids, but Ben and Bryan would have met and had fun playing together too.

I thought I saw a recent post from Sarah on Friday.

Sorry, I think I must have been spending a bit more time here. Apologies again for drowning the forum with my posts... :p

Hi mommies!

Do you all still remember "The Electric COmpany" from Bill Cosby and Morgan Freeman? Long, long time ago when we were still young ourselves learning reading and spelling.

Apparently there have been volumes of the Best of the Bests available in the US/Canada. And they are still so well-received. Any idea how to procure a copy?

Think I'll probably have it shipped from amazon.co.uk or from the States direct.

Nowadays kids are spoilt with choices when it comes to children's programmes. I only grew up with Sesame Street, The Electric Company and 3-2-1 Contact...

btw, here are some clips to relive your childhood.... think some of the kids here will enjoy The Electric Company immensely, esp those who are already reading.
happy.gif

Hi hi

K's mom, I'm here
kao_kiss.gif
... thanks for remembering me and of course, Ben. I've been too busy doing goodness knows what. Have been reading the forum but writing not much.... hey, we can always meet up when u r back next time. zoo is a must-go for kids in sgp

Actually I do not know the online stores very well... just that I've got very friendly staff and mothers who have introduced me to good products. Usually I get my stuff by chance rather than deliberately.

Apricot, stop taking photos with that card. This happened to my BIL once and my hubby helped him to recover the lost photos. He uses a software and a card reader to do the recovery, but if you have used the card, some photos would be overwritten. He didn't manage to recover a lot of the photos then, but it did work. I can email the program to u ... wait hor.

Re : The next gathering
Sarah's place would be too far for me and going there for a swim would be getting stares from my hubby.... we go swimming downstairs, no need to go so far .... blah blah blah. btw, can I know if your kid can swim without armfloats? Ben can now finally move with armfloats, from one end of the pool to the other. But when I remove his armfloats, his kicks become haywire and he can't move far. Getting him to straighten his legs is difficult

.ky.

Hi Ky,
Thanks thanks !! At least there are hopes for me to recover some photos. Sure, I will wait . Thanks.
Aston do not know how to swim though he kicks water very well, he can straighten legs well and daddy says will teach him swim but never see them swim except those times we go cousin's private condo or Sarah place where they swim together.

Hi Serenade,
I'm still around! Been a little lazy to check and write.

Btw, I owe you this. The 'bebe' class are for 3yrs and above, some classical ballet starts at 4yrs old. Hannah has been in the bebe class for a year, and it's just basic movements to mostly, nursery rhymes. Eg, walk on tippy toes etc.

Hey, your sunflower pic is simply gorgeous! I have always like sunflower, so cheerful and really brighten up your day.

So when you meeting Kristin's mom? Are you packed already? Remember to take more pictures.
happy.gif

Hi Sarah,

Wonder if its alrite for me to join you gals for your gathering? Would like my boy to make more frens too.
happy.gif

Do we have to state down wat we are bringing too?

Hi Serenade,

Thanks for the welcome.
happy.gif

Hi Kristin Mom,

I think some of those old stationery shops in older neighbourhoods should sell the paperdolls. Somehow, they have pretty interesting knick-knacks around. Hehe..

Hi Apricot,

Are you feeling better now? Recovered?

Hey Minnie,
It's great that you & family can join us!!

i have this idea for the kids to 'bake' us a cake, no bake type. will provide the ingredients ;) or du u

this time, we must remember the camera!

serenade
think u asked abt the mini accents, i bought some, bees, birthday cakes ... they are great for decorating cards, presents, or use them for seqencing games. the apples bulletin board should stick nicely on the wall with enough blue tac. again, they look great on the walls, and they are various ways to use it, some come with learning guides.

lemme browse thru the webby, will email my order . merci!

Sarah,

I am crossing my fingers. I was hoping for May6 but Apricot cant make it. My dad yet to fix up a date for annual ɨĹ which is compulsory attendance I have been asking them which is the DAY! The family tradition is always impromptu. Hope he does not clash with our meetup. I will try to get it confirmed asap ....

A Hundred years from now

....it will not matter what my
bank account was, the sort of
house I lived in or the kind of
car I drove
.....but the world may be
different because I was
important in the life of a
CHILD

And so i am helping Mel make me a mother's day gift! haha

Hi Minnie,

I am feeling now. Thanks. Today back to work like a mad women rushing clearing the backlogs.

Abt gathering, if it has to change to May6, pls go ahead. I am perfectly fine.

Hi Serenade!

The weekend in Paris does not have promising weather forecast. But still about two more weeks to go... so hopefully, things will change by then.

Don't wanna be travelling with lots of jackets.

Hi mummies,

Please pray for this little girl

hi everyone, just wanted to give an update on Sabie, she was in surgery from 3:30 pm till 11:30 pm today. Operation went well but she bled a lot during the surgery (much more than expected) and she lost a lot of blood... doctors are a bit worried about it. so far they say she is in very critical condition for the next 2-3 days and they are hoping the bleeding will stop by tomorrow. They did not close up the chest because the heart is swollen and due to the bleeding.

Please please pray that the bleeding will stop...

Thank you.

Hi everyone, just a quick one...just came out of ICU, sabie is much more stable now than last night. The bleeding has stopped but now the problem is her kidney is in shock and she isn't passing urine. They will do dialysis on her later and also infuse more blood trying to get the kidney back up working.

She looks ok, still heavily sedated. X-rays are better than last night and for now the lungs are clear.

We're praying for continued recovery with no more complications.

Thank you very much for the support, James and I really apprecaite it very very much!

Hi everyone... thanks for all the jia you!!

Just got home after being chased home by hb and my dad. The doctors have been able to find the source of the bleeding and have stabilized it, and the blood is starting to clot normally already, so we're hoping past that hurdle. Doctors also said renal failure isn't unexpected so they're not worrying about that (as per what Jules said above, thanks!)

we're hoping for continued progress and no more unexpected complications. doctors have warned that we are not yet out of the woods but are a bit more comfortable with her position now. Please continue to pray for her.

hi everyone, it's been a tough day... from seeing sabie doing well this morning, she's not doing so well now. her left lung has collapsed due to fluid buildup, most likely caused by renal and liver failure. her kidneys had too much of a shock and she has not yet pee'd in 2 days, and her liver is not functioning and not making the blood clotting agent so she is still bleeding. The doctors have decided not to close her chest yet because her heart is swollen again due to too much fluid.

chenoa: i went to but but slept on and off... until about 5 am then i slept and woke up at 8 am and jumped up to go to the hospital! haven't filed for leave, my boss told me to stay off for as long as i needed.

thanks to everyone for their prayers. we really need it now. they don't dare take sabie off the paralysis medication because her chest is still open so she's still drugged out. please pray for her kidney and liver to start functioning soon...

Sms from Patsy as @ 9.10am

They are (surgeon) closing her chest now. Hoping its a good sign

please keep those prayers gng! tks a million

Sms from Patsy as @ 1.41pm

We really need alot of prayers now. Sabie has deteriorated more and the blood acid is destroying her organs due to poor circulation. She is going on a bypass moachine now to help the situation but now we ran the risk of her bleeding out. Please pray for her

another update from Patsy...

Saby on bypass machine now, the next 48 hours are very critical. Please pray for no bleeding & no infection.

Sms for Patsy @ 6.30pm

just to update, Saby seems to be responding to the bypass and hemo dialysis. She is still in critical condition but least her blood chemistry is better than this morning
_________________

Sabie's heart is stil not working, BP is dangerously low, blood chemistry going down wards again. Doctors saying it looks bad but I'm hoping prayer can intercede.

Sabie is having multiple organ failure now. We need a miracle.

All medication to saby has exhausted and bleeding everywhere. Hoping
bleeding does not occur in her brain, and will lead to brain damage.
Its not really a piece of good news compared to now. I choose not to
reveal a moment ago, worrying mummies would not be able to take it.
That is why we are asking for a Prayer with Miracle.

Saby is now on 100% oxygen but only taking in 10%. Her grandparents
are worried sick and so are Sarah & James.

We needed a turn badly tonite, please pray for a miracle to happen.
Pray for our Merciful & compassionate God to heal Saby

PLS PRAY & GOD... pls hear our prayers!!

Hi Sarah,

Hi all. Just dropping by to say hello as I've been too tired to log on lately. Also, I thought I've been complaining too much here, so decided to give you all a break :p

Have been trying to be more positive abt things lately so coming back to draw some positive energy from the group here. Will find time to catch up on reading the postings I have been missing...

Hi krisins_mom,

We have been busy packing and cleaning the last few days. Seems like it's never ending. Managed to scrub off Brandon and Cheryl's masterpieces on the walls.:p

The sunflowers were really gigantic and beautiful. The pic was taken in Aug. If I'm wrong, you should be able to catch the lavender and sunflowers in July. We were hoping to visit the tulip farm this year, but heard that the flowers didn't bloom like in the past. So, gave it a miss in the end.

I'm quite blessed in the sense that my kids always nap during long rides
happy.gif
. Initially, they will talk, sing, squabble a bit but usually drift off to dreamland within an hour or two.

We checked out the Gruffalo website. Guess what Brandon like best? He likes playing the Memory Game most.:p

How's your hubby's work status now? Do you still need to drive to Brussels first? I'm keeping my fingers cross that the weather will be fine for Disney. Otherwise, there won't be much to do or see. Maybe we can go there first on 28 Aug, then La Vallee Shopping Village on Sunday and Troyes shopping on Monday.
