kristin's mom,
My son's name is also Bryan :)

Amum,
I just went genting on 20/11 & back the next day. Coz my Grandma's relatives fm China were here for a short vocation & we brought them to genting & some places in sin during their stay here. Will try to upload some photos here when I'm free.

Sarah,
haiz.. my grandma has leukemia ! She has been in & out of SGH very often for blood/platelet transfusion. She cant do any chemo for take any cancer drugs as her body cant take it. She is already 80 yrs old.. So doc said can only "support" her.

Meilan,
My hubby works long hr as well. Normally he works till 11+pm or sometime pass midnight but there is nothing much we can do. Living standard in sin is just too high.. In order to cope with all the "expenses" we really got to work hard.

Hi mummies,
I dun think I'm anle to join in the dinner/shopping session... Hv been really busy since my grandma is sick. Initially my mum helps me to take care of Bryan but now that my grandma is sick, she spent most of time taking care of her.. so I got to rush home straight after work to take over.

Hi Irene,

Take good care of yourself and your mummy too, cos it's very very tired and draining to run beteen hosp and home.

Hi Irene!

Yeah, let's get the Bryan's to meet.

Does your son have trouble with people of the same name?

My son has shown his occasional dislike when his teachers mix up the names, e.g. another boy's name is pretty close to his, i.e. Ryan. Anyway, you can read about the previous post on the changing of names. But it's inevitable coz I sometimes mean Bryan but I call him Kristin too... you know, the days when you are not so sharp and a bit light-headed, not from the alcohol but from sleep deprivation.
happy.gif

When Bryan was in a playgroup in SG at 23 months, there was another Bryan in his class. Then he was more accomodating and there was no mix up for him at all.

Hi ky!

I would have done the same too if I saw what I didn't like. But perhaps the last minute preparation could be due to a last minute notice too.

I remember filling in for Sunday school for the first time. It was tough to deal with 15 4's and 5's at one go. And much as I tried to remember names, I could only get about 60-70% right. I must stress that I'm still very good at names. Usually I remember every student after max 4 lessons - and we're talking about class size of 30 and four classes in total beginning each year. But that was probably when I was working... so my memory power is out of training. Anyway, the supply teacher does have my sympathy of not being able to get all the names right at one go. It's also esp difficult if she's ang-moh. Coz to her, all Asians look the same... It's very different being back here in Germany where you see hair of all colours.

But I'm glad that the school is responding positively to your feedback. That's what's important, right?

Hi Meilan!

Yeah, sometimes it makes me boil when I call my husband near dinner time and am just wondering where he is and he tells me he's having his beer with his colleagues!!! Those are the days when I really don't like being a SAHM and the kids are driving me crazy at the end of the day.

But there are also times when I call my husband - good summer days - and tell him to get off work with his colleagues and buy drinks for his assistants. Those are the days when I'm out and happy roaming the garden with my kids, or my children just give me a break.

But like what ky mentions, it's even more unbearable when he's home and he's cat-napping away! And I'm the mom, the maid, and then late at night I still have to be wife!!!! I think you know what I mean there.

Hi Serenade!

3 cheers for year end bonus!!!
happy.gif

Now I can get more books and DVDs for the kids.

Does Brandon like Caillou? That's Bryan's recent favourite DVD. And it's my excellent babysitter!

Hope your kids are giving you some break.
Hmm, do you give your children herbal tea, e.g. chamoumile tea? The PDs here encourage children to drink herbal infusion. There're even herbal infusions for babies as old as one week. WHat I do is to mix the last feed of milk with chamoumile tea. And we all get a good night's sleep, esp Kristin, she'll sleep deep and sound.

Otherwise, just let them watch their favourite DVDs and you take a break.

I really hate it when the kids are not feeling well as they are now. They are so whinny.
Btw, did I mention to you that Bryan's worried he'll be permanently scarred? He asked me last night if he'd still look the same. And at Sunday school yesterday, he drew a self-portrait. When my busband picked him up when the service was over, daddy was shown the picture and Bryan said, "See, Daddy, Bryan looks the same. Bryan has no plaster." Now that really saddens me.

For those who didn't know:
Bryan had a little accident on Thanksgiving Day. Sigh! If only there was school...
Anyway, long story short, Bryan walked into a pole coz he was looking where he was going. And mommy was stuck behind pushing pram, and has been blaming herself since. If only her arm was just 5 cm longer to grab him, he wouldn't have sustained a cut at the corner of his left eye, sigh!!!

Moshimoshi,

You are henceforth crowned as Queen Craft!!! I hail thee, Queen! And mommies of all ages will bow down to thy great works! And kids of all ages will adore thee...
happy.gif

I really adore your mistletoe, Christmas tree and snow man. Maybe I'll get Bryan to do that. Craft work really does have calming effect on a child, doesn't it?

yo yo K's mom,
I shall gladly accept the title, and to celebrate my enthronement, here's some more crafts for my
princes and princesses hee hee

I am getting a flatpacked gingerbread house from ikea's swedish food market, great for parties, all can chip it to decorate the house with icing(snow), gum drops, marshmallows etc. Only $7.50. Check it out at your Ikea.

Hope bryan's wound is healing nicely, try some vit E cream to help the scar?

Mommies going for D & D
Cya tomorrow, i hope to be early to do some window shopping. Apricot, do u have the numbers of all? We must catch everyone this time.

Thanks mums, for sharing your views and experience abt husbands staying out after office hours for socialising. Looks like most of you sound more supportive than me as long as the hubby is "zi tong". Actually my hubby has been very selective and does attempt to attend only those that he feels will add value to his standing at work. I was just very pissed with him when I said no the other day only to have him dig up my past "debt" to him when I went on frequent business trips and office functions, leaving him to handle JK alone. I thought it was an unfair comparison since we are talking about 2 kids now and it's a fact that I am still incapable of handling both on my own and hate to have to impose on my parents on these occasions.

Anyway, I do get the message that since he's the sole breadwinner, he does need to put extra efforts to be more appreciated by his boss such as working late on some days and supporting certain social events. But that does not change the sinking feeling arising from those occasions when I will then get no relief even at the end of the day esp if the kids are already driving me crazy like what Kristin's mom said.

Like Sarah's husband, my hubby also wished he could be the one staying at home. Frankly, I think he would do a better job than me with his patience and firm ways with the kids and his more positive outlook. But since his career prospects seem better than mine, it does not make sense for him to quit instead of me.

Kristin's mom, is Bryan better now? Did he cry when he knocked into the pole or did he act brave? Actually I feel more heartache when JK tried to act brave on the occasions when he hurt himself. Anyway, don't feel guilty abt not saving him in time. Children are prone to injuries and there's only so much we can do to prevent so. I see small injuries as chances to toughen them up, maybe because JK has had too many, being a very restless boy.

ky, I can totally empathise with you abt daddy pretending to spend quality time with the kids. My husband used to watch tv or read or does his own thing with the kids around him while I was busy with something else. He did not really realise that till I confronted him the other day to think abt whether this was how he wanted to spend his already very limited time with the kids. Now he's improving...

By the way, have anyone tried the ducky tour, hotair balloon and hippo bus tour? I strongly recommend all 3 as JK had a great time. The hippo tour is a great way to see the X'mas light-up. And the best part for duck tour and hotair balloon - children under 3 pay only $2 each while the hippo bus is free for them. I think there is also some promotion for Singaporean adults now.

Hi Meilan!

This is one of the days I dread. My husband is not home for the night, and I was running around like a mad woman near dinner time till the kids are finally tucked in bed.

Bryan was complaining that his wound hurt. But I think he's a bit whinny coz the plaster is still intact and there's no sign of infection. He cried extremely loudly - actually screamed and then wailed when he knocked into pole. And that must have hurt a lot since he doesn't usually complain about slight bumps and knocks. However, the pain must have subsided quickly too. Coz three minutes later, when we walked past the drugstore, he told me we missed it. Originally, we wanted to go in to get some cotton balls. He was still thinking of going in there. My facial expression probably gave him a much bigger scare than the actual pain he felt. I was near tears when I saw blood trickling down.

I think I will have to slap on lots of vit e cream for him for many years now...

At least his daddy thinks that boys should have a few scars so that they can tell story about them.

Now I know how my parents must have felt each time they treated my bruises and cuts.

Hi moshi2!

Thanks for the tip on the ginger bread house. I shall check it out this weekend. we've been planning to make a trip to Ikea just before Christmas.

And the snowman... what can I say? Hail thee, hail thee, hail thee!

My attempt on the Christmas tree with Bryan turned into shreds. He literally shredded it with his good scissors skill, which he claimed that I taught him well!!!

This couple of weeks have been tough to do anything with him without any meltdowns. Maybe we need to go back to SG for a while... I'm not gonna care much about getting their routine right these few weeks. Just make sure the kids get their due attention and try to distract them and make them happy. On top of separation anxiety (grandparents!), they haven't been feeling well in terms of health... sigh!!!!

I will religiously apply vit e cream for him every day... until he finds a wife to do it for him! sigh!!!!

Anyway, enjoy your D&D with the rest of the mommies!

Hey mommies going for D&D, happy shopping! And enjoy your time-out.

Morn kristin's mom, have u tried Jorubi aloe vera gel for brusies, scars, rashes, bites, ulcers? I have been diligently applying for zavier on my sis recommendation. She used them for my niece and she is now 15yrs old.

Hi aileen,
Can this Jorubi aloe vera gel suitable for me ? Recently I was scalded by the edge of a pot when it was boiling hot. Now, there is a 5cm brown scar. Looks ugly...

Hi K'mom,
Feel so heart pain to hear that Byan hurt himself. I rem two yrs back aston fell down in the school and cut his tongue and was hospitalised to stich back the flesh. Sorry if sounded scary to you. I was so shocked and no tears cos I was too afraid for him to handle the surgery. Doc assured us his taste buds will not be affected so we trust him. Aston still rem this incident & we use it to remind him cannot run too fast.

Hi Kristins_mom!

Don't worry too much abt the scar. It might take a longer time but I believe it will eventually fade away. Remember, Bryan is still a big "baby" and baby skin tends to heal better.

Don't feel too guilty abt it. Think most of us have some stories to tell too. Once, Brandon was jumping happily on the bed when his back hit directly on the wooden frame. He cried real loud and scary. There was a bruise somewhere near his spine. He was 21 mths old then. Imagine my fear and guilt. Since then, we have slept on just mattress.

Does Bryan like plasters? Brandon likes it since he was two years old. He would request for a plaster whenever he "hurt" himself, regardless if there's any need for one
uhoh.gif
Once, he had a bump on the back of his head and he requested one for it. Our neighbour was wondering what happened to him...

Caillou sounds great. Was checking out the amazon and found rave reviews abt the sensitive boy Caillou. Hmm, probably will get some for Brandon. He's now obessed with The Magic School Bus. His daily routine includes taking magic school bus rides to castles, outer space etc...

I did buy some chamomile tea & tea infusion for the kids, but too busy to make it for them. Maybe I'll try it tomorrow. Cheryl's running a slight fever. Just fed her some paracetamol. Hopefully, it's due to her teething.

Stay strong. Only 2 weeks more to go before returning to Singapore!

Hi AMum!
That really sounds scary! Poor Aston. Glad that he's doing great now.

We only brought the Logoico set over. It's pretty interesting. I think he likes moving the buttons around. How many activities do you complete with Aston per session?

hi amum, it helps for scars defintely but take a longer time. I used it for stretch marks and too. i tried GNC brand but its not that good.. too watery and light.. i hrd from someone chinatown selling cheaper than guardian but no idea of which shop. we can get at guardian less 5% with my sis card tonite if you want.

Hi Kristin's_mom,
Hope both B & K feeling better. Like Serenade said, 2 more weeks to go. Hang on there.

Hey, how about getting Bryan to look forward to the Sg trip - he could make some little presents, or drawings etc for ah-gu's wedding, and things to do with ah gong and ah ma. Maybe that will distract him from missing them too much, or worsen it...

hi hi

hm, I may come by to meet u gals for D&D ... I'll sms AMum if I'm there. will be there latest by 7.30pm, so if no hear from me by then, it means I'm not coming. may not have dinner. will have dessert if can though *heehee*

btw, anyone going for Gingerbread Man? I've won a pair of tickets but it's on Sun night and I've given it to hubby to go with Ben ...

Was busy setting up X'mas tree, visiting farms and reviewing clothes and toy areas ... really hope to get a break this evening ...

.ky.

Hi Sereande,

Yeah, we like logico alot and enjoy completing them with Aston. We do not restrict the no of activities. Sometimes we can finish two books and sometimes a few activities in one book. We just feel very happy seeing able to complete it after we read him the instructions. Kids are smart nowadays..
happy.gif

hi ladies

where did u bought the logico set?in english or chinese? i recently bght one chinese set for my gal also and we enjoy it veri much

hi amum!

that must have been terrible for Aston, and even worse for you and your husband, knowing that he'd to go through the stitching trauma and as parents there's little you could do to help ease it... sigh!!!

looks like the cut is really just pure grace from God. Coz it's so near his eye, just 2 cm more it would be gone. I try not to feel guilty too much and thank God each time when I think of the accident that it wasn't his left eye.

hi serenade!

yeah... i am slowly moving away from my guilt now. like meilan said, there's so much we can do to stop them from getting hurt. so it will be a good lesson for bryan now that he's got to look where he's going.

bryan loves plaster too. so like brandon, he'll be quick to ask for one even if it's just the slightest tear of skin. but as long as the plaster is still there, he'll complain it hurts a whole lot. I know this is usually not true esp the most minor of cuts.

i'll be ordering a magic school bus dvd from scholastic. hopefully we can still get it before we fly back to sg. otherwise, it'll also be good when we come back, when bryan starts missing grandparents yet again.

you know, i'm so tempted to get another caillou off amazon.de. daddy's been away for two days now, and he's got allowance for being out of town. i think i can make a good investment out of that allowance so that when he's away again next week, i shall have a new caillou dvd.

i think the reason why caillou is so well-received among many children - also read the good reviews - is that the language is spoken clearly and the situations are so real to the preschoolers, e.g. train-ride for the first time, stay-over, helping out in the kitchen etc. bryan identifies himself with caillou immediately esp so coz caillou's got a baby sister too. he'll go, i'm caillou and meimei is rosie.

wow, cheryl has already got 16 teeth. so now the big ones could be coming out. or just watch out for virus, though you seldom go out these days since brandon has stopped school, or have you?

you know, this is like the mildest november i've ever experienced. usually at this time of the year, there'll be a little snow to get one excited about winter. also i don't like this wet weather... just makes one more susceptible to colds and coughs. i'd rather it cold and dry with snow and then you know you have to really clothe yourself thickly. neither here nor there... just like spring time, that's when people always get sick.

two weeks from now it will be holiday for me... coz husband will be clearing leave till end of year - yippee! besides, the kids can be with the grandparents... haha, what a break that will be!!! Yap, sure am looking forward to it. Usually every morning I'll wake up with a great determination for the day... but by dinner time, i would have run out energy. and when the kids get cranky, it gives me a headache to put up all sorts of meltdown.

i hope your kids are letting you sleep earlier. is there some sort of indoor playground where you can bring them to?
otherwise give them thick clothes and take them out for a walk. we like to do stupid things like singing:
walking walking walking walking,
hop hop hop, hop hop hop,
running running running, running running running,
now we stop, now we stop ( to the tune of Ferre Jacque).
or the Grand Old Duke of Yoke is also a good walking song.
or just tell them to pretend to be walking slowly like a turtle, galloping like a horse, or hop like a rabbit... hmmm, you could be covering miles by now, haha!
great workout for the kids and a great knock out for them at night too.
happy.gif

or give them their rain coats and water-proof pants and wellingtons and go step on water - splish-splash, if it rains!

i'm arranging a playdate with another mom from sg this afternoon. our sons love each other. so we are just gonna hang out and relax at her place later.

hi sarah!

great idea about drawing for the wedding too.
also wrapping a present for oma and opa. but fingers crossed that it would not end up in shreds like the paper Christmas tree did last evening.

i think i'll attempt the idea when the daddy is back. gee, the kids miss their dad so much. i wish the daddy knows how much he's being missed. i hope they'll not think that all the adults are leaving them.

how are things back home for you? is your hubby back in town already? how's your dad?

hi ky!

you got your Christmas tree up too?

Don't the children go ga-ga over it? Does Keith go grabbing all the Christmas decor and tinsles off the tree? Kristin did that the first few days when it was up. Now she that knows the tinsles don't taste good and the tree is gonna stay in the living room for some time, she's leaving the tree alone. She goes for other Christmas trees she sees outside the house though... haha!

hi ky!

forgot to ask you about the farm visit on sunday. was it fun?

do you know goul ney from PB2003? she's actually my ex-classmate.
happy.gif
the world is small, isn't it? and we got to know that we were pregnant with the first one when we saw each other in the antenatal class... life's got busy after we left school and started work.

Hi Meilan!

You've got mail!
kao_wink.gif

Let's meet up in SG even though JK will not be attending CC then. Actually, it's easier to relax when you are out and the kids are running about and then when you get home, they'll be tired and they want to sleep.
happy.gif

Till soon!

Hi Kristin's mom. You make Bryan's wound sound serious - having to put cream on him everyday till he gets a wife! I really hope you are kidding. Poor boy!

Then more horror stories abt Aston and Brandon from AMum & Serenade! I pray that I will not have any injury story to share esp abt JK since he does not heed warnings and deep down, I fear that he'll be sorry sooner or later.

Just to share something about measles and chicken pox. I didn't know till now that the kids can still get these despite the vaccinations. JK just had a bout of measles a few days ago which the Dr said must be a wild strain not covered by the vaccination. Likewise, my friend's nephew also had chicken pox. The only comfort is JK's measles was mild though his crankiness was at an all-time high and I nearly spanked him. Thank goddness I held back, I just didn't know he must have been in discomfort.

hi Kristin's mom

U in PB2003 too?? yap, I know goul ney. Her hubby also happened to be working in the same Poly. I bumped into her many nights ago when there was a company event ... ya, small world. now I know how old u r .... hahaha. I'll mention to her about u then but I wouldn't see her prob for a couple of weeks. A few of us are in PB2003 too, and MH was also at the farm visits on Sunday. It was really fun!! You should read abt the weekly event at one of the mummies blog. Since she does it, that saves my trouble of writing that and I just put her link in mine :> maybe you wanna consider coming for a lesson or two when u r back in Singapore. Alot of folks commented why I travelled so far from CCK to Punggol for the lessons but I really feel the lessons and company is worth the distance. And esp so when we see how the kids grow up with each other that sometimes it's difficult to break the routine

sorry, folks that I didn't come to D&D last night. Thot about it and the distance's a bit too far. We went down to Daiso at IMM to get some Xmas decor, and as expected, Keith cried out pitifully when he saw me stepped thru the doors and could hardly wait to get himself on me ... I don't think I can keep late nights out anymore :-/

.ky.

Hi ky. What lessons are you taking in Punggol? Just curious as I live in SK.

I was wondering how the gals must be enjoying the D&D while I was busy cooking last night. I'm worse than ky, can't go anywhere on my own now. I can't even step out of the car for 2 min to pick up something without bringing JK along. He will be crying out of proportion by the time I come back!

By the way, is anyone taking the lead to organise a meet-up in Dec?

hi meilan, amum, sarah, melmel and myself met up for D&D last evening. Nice Chit-chat and got to know one another.. w/o kids
happy.gif
. I've enjoyed my outing. we were talking of xmas meetup last nite but not confirmed yet..

hi ky, you should see melmel's purchases.. she's a cool shopper..
