Celebrate National Day 2017 at 12 Family-Fun Events
This year, Singapore celebrates its 52nd birthday as #OneNationTogether – yup, that’s the theme for National Day 2017. No tickets to the big event, you say? Don’t worry, we have you covered!
Apart from staying home to watch the National Day Parade on TV, there are loads more ways we can come together as a family to mark the occasion. In fact, National Day-themed events are taking place long before and even after 9 August. So start marking your calendars now, and step up as #OneFamilyTogether too!

1. Istana Open House & Art Event 2017
The President of Singapore welcomes you to an early National Day party at the Istana. One of the highlights is the Arts and Heritage Village, where kids can get hands-on making styrofoam relief print portraits of family and friends, or try batik painting and Peranakan beading. Three- to 12-year-olds can also take part in the On-the-Spot Art Competition. While you’re there, try the Istana Harvest Sorbet, a refreshing treat created using ingredients found in the Istana’s Spice Garden. All proceeds will be donated to the President’s Challenge.

2. “One Nation Together” Children’s Art Contest
Calling kids aged four to nine years old who love to draw! 18 Tai Seng wants you to illustrate how you would like to celebrate the occasion. To take part, drop by Junior Champs over the next two weekends. Colouring materials will be provided, so just bring your creativity! Alternatively, pick up the official drawing sheets, complete your artwork at home, and submit it by mail to this address: 18 Tai Seng, 18 Tai Seng Street, The Management Office #02-01, Singapore 539775. The closing date is 6 August.

3. Families for Life Celebrating NS50 Picnic
Enjoy family bonding games, camo face painting and have kids dress up in SAF uniforms! The upcoming Families for Life picnic commemorates 50 years of National Service in conjunction with NS50 Week. There will also be music performances, an outdoor movie screening, a static display of army vehicles and a mini Standard Obstacle Course for families! Register online as a family to receive a goodie bag (note that goodie bag redemptions start at 4.30pm).

4. Civic District Outdoor Festival
Head to the Padang over two weekends in August, as it transforms into a huge picnic ground, complete with giant rabbits! Then follow an outdoor projection trail and witness the story of Hemera’s Dream unfold over the facade of four heritage buildings: National Gallery Singapore, The Arts House, Victoria Theatre and Asian Civilisations Museum. The festivities include live performances, art installations, art markets and food streets.

5. PlayLAH! Let’s Celebrate! NDP 2017
Themed “One Nation Together, One Community Gathers”, this family-favourite carnival is back in a big way. Spend hours of fun at the Play, Learn, Eat and Bond zones, with inflatable bouncy structures, giant mazes, hands-on activities and tasty treats on offer. Over at the new Music, Sports and Tech villages, you can learn a new instrument, attempt mini obstacles courses and experience new technology. 6. National Gallery Singapore Open House
National Gallery Singapore is offering complimentary general admission for all this National Day. This is the perfect opportunity to take the kids to the Gallery Children’s Biennale. There’s also a fun scratch art activity featuring images of the City Hall and former Supreme Court buildings. At the Keppel Centre for Art Education, kids from four years can learn about Singapore’s history through art, before depicting their idea of future Singapore through their own artworks. (Ticketing charges still apply for special exhibition YAYOI KUSAMA: Life is the Heart of a Rainbow.)

7. Sports Hub National Day Fiesta
It’s going to be a sporty red-and-white day out at the Sports Hub this National Day. Take part in an aquathlon workshop, join a 52-minute fitness workout to popular National Day songs, or challenge yourselves to eight fun sports. Kids can craft their own Singapore flag collage at the Singapore Sports Museum, or have fun with upsized board games, racing simulators and bouncy castles at the National Day Carnival. In the evening, gather for a mass family picnic while watching the live telecast of the National Day Parade.

8. Play as One Nation at KidZania Singapore
The kid-sized city is offering National Day-themed activities for the kids. Highlights include a special rendition of the City Parade, where kids can dance to heart-warming National Day songs in a specially choreographed National Day dance at the City Clock. Ink your love for Singapore on the Pledge Wall, get a temporary tattoo, look out for fun facts about Singapore and stand to win prizes. Big ‘kids’ aged 17 years and up can also take part in Back-to-Kidz National Day Edition from 6pm on 4 August.

9. Science Centre National Day Promotions
For two weeks in August, Science Centre Singapore is offering one free adult ticket for every adult ticket purchased, and one free child ticket for every child ticket purchased. This makes it the perfect season to experience exhibits such as Professor Crackitt’s Light Fantastic mirror maze (above). Furthermore, with every child ticket into Dino Robot Factory on 8-10 August, one adult gets in free too. If the weather gets too warm to bear from 1-31 August, head to Snow City for an hour of snow play at just $5.20 – in celebration of Singapore’s 52nd birthday, of course!

10. Orchid Extravaganza Floral Display
This year’s Orchid Extravaganza floral display tells the story of Singapore through the motif of a butterfly’s life cycle. There is also a sculpture of 52 butterflies in the shape of Singapore! Local residents enjoy $5 off tickets to the cooled conservatories purchased online from 5-20 August. On 5 August, join a 2km guided mass walk through the Gardens in the morning, then a musical dance fitness party in the evening. Remember to come dressed in red and white!

11. So Singapore at Sentosa
The State of Fun delivers a truly Singaporean adventure, beginning with a special National Day edition of the iconic Merlion Magic Lights! Every Saturday, catch acts like traditional face-changing, wushu, Peranakan folk songs and classic Indian songs. Over at Palawan Green, find giant food props, retro exhibits, a kids obstacle course, old school snacks and movie screenings at the Heritage Carnival (4-13 August). To up the fun factor, local residents enjoy discounts of up to 52 per cent at various attractions including the Trick Eye Museum, MOSH!, cable car rides and more.

12. PIECE OF PEACE World Tour − World Heritage Exhibit built with LEGO® Bricks
