Avengers fans young and old, the wait is over! Here’s your chance to delve into the mind boggling world of the Avengers at Science Centre Singapore’s Marvel’s Avengers S.T.A.T.I.O.N. Exhibition. Following highly successful runs in New York, Seoul, Paris and Las Vegas, the newest edition makes its Southeast Asian debut here in sunny Singapore. Oh, and being the latest edition of the exhibition sure has some perks – there are original costumes and props from films as recent as Civil War on display here (we hear you squealing)!
From when it was first announced in June this year, 7000 tickets to the exhibition have already been snapped up! It’s also the largest and most interactive yet edition of Marvel’s Avengers S.T.A.T.I.O.N. – how lucky Singaporean Avengers fans are! The SingaporeMotherhood team got to tour the interactive exhibition which spans over 2000 sqm. last Thursday. I’m all ready to share with you the details of the simulated recruitment that will eventually make you an official *ahem* Avengers S.T.A.T.I.O.N. agent!
First things first, in order to get the best experience out of the Marvel’s Avengers S.T.A.T.I.O.N. Exhibition, download the Avengers S.T.A.T.I.O.N. Mobile Training Device application on your smartphone prior to your visit. It’s available for free on the App Store and Google Play Store. If your kids don’t have their own smartphones, you can rent a mobile device for them at $5 each before you enter the exhibition.
Recruits, if you’re ready, step into the briefing room where you will receive your mission brief from Agent Maria Hill. Once the application on your smartphone is loaded and ready, you will be guided through your training by Tony Stark’s Artificial Intelligence – FRIDAY. As the application will provide you with access and insight into every exhibit, you’ll want to keep it running while you’re here.
Are You The Next Super Soldier? Compare Yourself to Captain America!
I’m sure you’re aware that the first Avenger, dashing Captain America, was recruited for the Super Soldier program because of his strength in character. But if you’ve always been curious about the resulting physiological enhancements from Dr. Erskine’s program, here’s your chance to read up on that! You can also learn about vibranium, which Captain America’s indestructible shield is made of, its scientific properties and even pose for a photograph with it!
Another Instagram worthy photo opportunity would be with Captain America’s amazingly sleek Harley Davidson which is also on display here. If you’d prefer to get hands-on, head over to the High Performance Test Area where you can test your strength against Captain America’s (no one has outperformed him yet). Try your hand at reaching his extreme level of fitness by measuring how much pressure your hands can exert or by pedalling continuously on a kinetic bicycle. It’s all about strength and endurance!
Watch The Incredible Hulk Come Alive!
Thanks to advancements in technology, you can watch your favourite green Hulk come alive on an interactive live screen display! Look on as Dr Bruce Banner transforms into the Incredible Hulk and learn what the effects of the Super Soldier Serum are on the Hulk’s blood. If you’d like to delve into the nitty gritty psychological mechanisms of the Hulk’s brain, you can do just that at the Hulk Neuro Display.
Click on the various segments of the Hulk’s brain on the touchscreen display to find out the neurological changes that take place in Dr Bruce Banner’s brain when he transforms. You’ll also get to observe the graphic metamorphosis of his brain when you touch the ‘Transform’ button. Oh, and don’t forget to snap a picture with the life sized display of the Hulk’s humongous green arms!
Inspect The Uniforms of Black Widow, Hawkeye, and More!
If you’re the sort who loves to ogle at original costumes and props from superhero films, you’ll be pleased to know that the Singapore edition of the Marvel’s Avengers S.T.A.T.I.O.N. Exhibition has got some of the newest gear on display! True blue Avengers fans, snap away to your heart’s content or feel free to even pose next to the astounding costume displays.
Discover The Scientific Theories Behind Thor
What allows Bifrost to transport Thor from Asgard to Midgard (Earth)? What is Dark Matter and how does it relate to the Dark Elves? These burning questions of yours and more will be answered here at the Thor Observatory! Use the accelerated mass spectrometer to find out the isotope detected in Thor’s hammer or take a closer look at Thor’s warrior outfits and helmet.
In the mood for a challenge? Head over to the Mjölnir Simulation section of the exhibit where you can have a go at lifting Thor’s hammer! Legend has it that only Thor and Vision are known to be able to wield this hammer, so it’s highly unlikely that you will succeed. But hey, at the very least, it’ll be an Instagram worthy photo opportunity!
Get up Close with Tony Stark’s Engineering Feat!
The Iron Man Advanced Engineering Bay is truly a geek’s dream come true. At the Hall of Armour, you get to study Iron Man’s collection of MK 1 – 7 Suits and learn more about each and every suit’s capabilities. The Iron Man MK-46 Suit from the film, Civil War, has been on display ONLY here in Singapore! The War Machine exosuit also stands ready for Rhodey here. Given its immense stature, you’ll probably just want to gape at it.
Don’t forget to try out the Hulkbuster Experience which lets you put on Iron Man’s suit in augmented reality to bust some villains! Stand behind the yellow line, watch yourself get suited up on the screen and look out for the bad guys as they try to take you on. Virtual reality allows you to hit out at them by punching or kicking, so react fast to wipe them all out and feel on top of the world!
Conclude Your Avengers Experience at The Game Room
Here’s where your smartphone or mobile device truly matters. At the final stage of the exhibition, you get to team up with fellow visitors and take on the roles of The Avengers to battle villains in an interactive touchscreen game. I was on Team Hawkeye and all I had to do was to look out for the baddies on the large screen in front of us, point my mobile device in their direction and swipe its screen to hurl arrows at them. There’s not much room for movement here, but it sure was fun while it lasted!
Let Your Kids Create Their Very Own Avengers Keepsakes!
At the end of the Marvel’s Avengers S.T.A.T.I.O.N. Exhibition, you’ll find activity tables where kids can get hands-on to make their own Avengers souvenirs. Choose from Shrinking Heroes or Flying Superheroes, both priced at $5 each.
Shrinking Heroes
- Choose your favourite Avengers superhero.
- Trace and colour in the outline of your chosen superhero on the plastic sheet provided. This sheet is made out of polystyrene, which will shrink to one third of its original size when heated.
- Watch your chosen coloured-in superhero shrink in the toaster!
- The friendly staff will let you have your shrunken superhero once he (or she) has cooled down.
- Take home your newly made Avengers keepsake!
Flying Superheroes
- Get yourself a clear plastic jar and a piece of string.
- Tie a paperclip to one end of the string. Cover it with an Avengers character sticker.
- Secure the other end of the string to the middle of the lid using a sticker (the length of the string and paperclip should almost reach the base of the jar but should not touch it).
- Tape a strong magnet on the inside of the jar’s base. Cover the base with a sticker.
- Personalise your jar with your choice of landscape sticker.
- Bring your home new Flying Superhero who appears to be defying gravity in his jar!
If you’re feeling generous and want to treat your kids to super cool Avengers merchandise, be sure to check out the pop-up gift store located at the entrance of the exhibition.
