1. Marvel at the light art installations and bring one home

i Light Marina Bay 2017 will feature three distinct festival hubs; Art-Zoo, The Fantastical World of eco.me and GastroBeats. Linking these hubs is a necklace of 20 scintillating light art installations, curated to the theme of Light & Nature that will line the Marina Bay waterfront promenade. Designed by artists from nine countries, including Singapore, the light art installations are made with energy-saving lighting or environmentally-friendly materials to serve as reminders of the importance of sustainability in our world today. Be amazed by them and feel free to snap away for that Instagram-worthy shot!

For the first time ever, visitors can give an installation a second lease of life after the festival by taking it home. Yes, that’s right! Local artist Lee Yun Qin will be offering some 800 intricate stalks from her work, MoonFlower, for public adoption. Made of wire mesh and lit with a solar-powered LED bulb, each moonflower can be adopted for a minimum of just $5. All proceeds will go towards the Garden City Fund! You can also adopt the moonflowers on this website and collect them after 26 March 2017.

2. Let your kids go wild at the giant play-garden, Art-Zoo

We are positive the kids are going to adore this new addition to i Light Marina Bay 2017. Art-Zoo, one of the festival hubs at The Float @Marina Bay, will house 11 larger-than-life inflatable art installations in a giant play-garden! From plants and animals to ecosystems that represent different letters of the alphabet, Art-Zoo explores nature from the perspective of art within an imaginative landscape. Kiddos can make their way through a Giraffe maze, walk through the belly of a Whale or take pictures with a towering Spider!

This interactive adventure promises great fun for the young and and the young-at-heart while learning more about wildlife and sustainability. When you visit Art-Zoo, you’ll also be doing your part for charity as part of the proceeds will be going to beneficiaries like Student Care Services and Focus on The Family Singapore. 3. Pop by the Learning Yard to learn about sustainability

It’s not all about play alone at i Light Marina Bay 2017. There’s some serious learning to be done by the kids as well! Visit Animal Allies, an interactive booth with games related to sustainability. Or head over to the DTE booth where you can embark on a mission to electrify the automotive industry so as to reduce global carbon emissions. Your child’s generation needs to be steered towards a more environmentally sustainable lifestyle, and what better way to do it than to educate the little ones! They can also toy around with the electric bus scale-model to learn more about how it works.

Or how about catching an artistic performance with the tots? Josh & Meg will be putting on a performance which involves creating a blanket out of plastic bags. Why a blanket, you ask? It’s meant to symbolise the fabric of our society and our over-dependence on plastic. At the end of the session, you’ll be invited to write your pledge to reduce your consumption of plastic bags on the materials used to create the masterpiece. Do stick to your word in the long run, yeah?

When: 3 – 5 March and 9 – 12 March 2017
Time: 6pm – 10.30pm

4. Party away at a Silent Disco session – kids are welcome!

Following Silent Disco Asia’s launch in May last year, the headphone party concept has taken Singapore by storm! Owing to that success, Silent Disco will be integrated into this year’s i Light Marina Bay. Centred on their unique rechargeable and energy efficient wireless LED headphones, the Silent Disco crew will host a variety of activities which will appeal to a wide range of interests and tastes. Just imagine a room full of dancing party-goers – all wearing wireless headsets that glow brightly in red, green or blue – raving to music that only they can hear! Psyched yet?

Oh, and there’s no need to leave the kids out of the fun. In addition to the weekend evening sessions, there will also be daytime family-friendly Silent Disco slots designed with little ones in mind! Following the same format there will be three channels of music but they will be tailored for younger ears along with some pop classics thrown in for Mum and Dad. This will be the first time Silent Disco opens to families in Singapore, so be sure to get involved!

Get ready to be wowed by state of the art technology when man and machine become one! Don’t worry about how to operate it – most folks, if not all, learn to ride it within minutes.

Alternatively, you could be part of a unique shared PMD experience by exploring the light art installations on your own time on wheels! Experience urban mobility within the Marina Bay precinct while gliding away with the cool evening breeze caressing you. Rental of mobility devices is available between 6.30pm – 10pm (terms and conditions apply). You’ll have to check-in 15 minutes ahead for onsite registration and a familiarisation briefing.
