Hello there, 1984too! And many thanks for keeping me in your prayers and for the good luck that you are sending me way! Welcome to this forum, I'm also hoping for more to come on board and share their experience. Sometimes, it is also a form of bonding and support for those going through this process. At times, the trying to conceive part can wear us down mentally. Better that we "vent" our frustration here than on our loved ones! I've been through it when trying to conceive naturally. The poor hubby literally has to "do it" on demand. It affected the intimacy between us both for a while, but thankfully, the hubby is very very sweet and loving throughout this experience.
By the way, which consultant are you thinking of seeing at KKH?
I had my Pregnyl jab last night (4 May 2014). I was scheduled to arrive at the 24 hour O & G Clinic at KK Hospital by 8.30pm, but hubby and I reached at 7.52pm. When the nurses see you with the cooler bag containing your drugs, they will ask you for your IVF forms and then you are required to take a seat and wait patiently for the nurse to call your name. You will then be ushered into one of the rooms (where you will see many other patients lying there - I think they are those who are there to see the doctor cos they are unwell) and a nurse will first take your blood for tests. After the blood test, another nurse will bring you to a bed (curtains to screen you from other patients) and administer the Pregnyl jab. You have a choice of being jabbed in the thigh or on the butt, but it has to be administered on a muscle. This means that it will be slightly more painful than usual.
Before I had my jab, I heard many horror stories about how painful it was. I must say that the anticipation is worse than the actual injection. Yes, the injection into the muscle causes you to flinch and clench the muscle uncontrollably, but you must try to relax. I was quite lucky in the sense that the nurse manager who administered the injection for me was very experience and the pain was minimal. You can resume normal activities immediately afterwards. I did not feel much discomfort, but do note that it may vary from patient to patient.
This morning, I did feel slightly bloated in my lower abdomen but nothing unbearable. Will update again after my oocyte retrieval tomorrow morning. It is scheduled at 7.30am! It is so early, but I guess in a way it is good. The earlier it is done, the earlier I would know the quality of my eggs. But the poor hubby will have to wake up super early to produce his necessary goods! So do remember that you are not alone in this, the poor guys have to do their part too! And it is probably not so easy for them too.
In the meantime, I hope our wishes for a baby will come true soon! Good luck to all of us! <3
