Is any mom suffering from de Quervain's tendonitis (wrist pain)? And what kind of doctor should we visit? Is GP able to treat it or must specialist?

Jaslyn
My baby also struggles and cries when bottle feed but once I offer to latch her, she will readily open her mouth and calms down

@mummy G, my baby also calms down when i latch her. but is there any solution for this? because i am going back to work in 2 mths time and i am worried that my mom will have a hard time feeding her.

Jaslyn, the same thing happened to me for my boy. as i've stopped bf-ing, it's worse that he doesn't want to take fm through the bottle. he'll just cry n struggle n refuse to drink as though he's not hungry, so feeding is always a challenge. this went on for almost a mth, visit the doc but there was nothing wrong with him. the 2nd time i visit the doc again, she said my boy's weight is at 90 percentile and maybe he doesn't need to drink so often and his stomach also has abit of wind so he was given colic drop.

i thk the main reason for my boy was mild colic cos after giving him the colic drop, he's better now and beginning to take his milk already.

WKnRayden, my left thumb to wrist is also aching! i didn't even know there's a name for it. i'm only rubbing n massaging it with ointment but still aching

xycartx, I have a fren who told me hers got so bad she cant bend her thumb, western doc told her should not rub cos already inflamed. But Chinese doc will rub for her.. She recovered only quite a few months after goin back to work.. So not sure should trust west or chinese doc.. Almost drop bb down few times n its a torture getting him out of the car seat =(

Oh ya, if you are bottle feeding perhaps you can try to feed with the other hand so that ur left wrist can rest. I am still on ebf so both wrists are hurting.. Cant be lying to feed all the time either so jus hope it does not get worse..

Jaslyn, perhaps u might want to consider letting the caregiver feed instead of yourself? Cos the tendency to want to latch is strong when u carry the baby.. My baby also the same.. When it's time for milk feed, he will be in search for my nipple if I'm the one carrying him.. So, I will let my hubby or MIL feeds him instead to let him be more used to bottle-feeding

Wknrayden > i had that too for my first pregnancy. If the pain is really unbearable and no way to rest your wrist eg. I still needed to wash bottles etc, you can ask the GP to refer you for a steroid jab. I took one round at clementi poly and another at Alexandra hospital. The jab has fast effect and safe for breastfeeding but can only be taken 3 times max at 6 mths interval.

Haiza, thanks! Will check out the jab. Pain is bearable just that hand will sometime get stuck so must be careful esp when puttin bb down.

oh, by the way, have you all done your pap smear test? i am still having my "mens"/discharge since i delivered end jan even though i am bf. so i have to keep postponing the test. wondered when will it end.

Jaslyn, same as aspialle. I have done my paps smear on the 1st gynae visit too.. Finished my menses on the 2nd week after delivery too

Hi bdmummy, the ting kat from empire is not oily n salty...u can try their 10 days trial....

Hi Jaslyn, mine took abt 1 month too...then now my menses like in a mess....came again after that and end then again...haiz...cos I stop bf...now is n full formula...thinking of taking the contraceptive pills...and I have not take Pap smear...my gynae said dun need...but maybe I will go take when my menses more regular

Agree with Joey Ang. Same thing with my baby, if I carry her, her mouth starts to search for my nipple, leaving her saliva all over me. Prob can use this method (other caregiver to give the bottle) to wean her off latching.

I just did my Pap smear and ultrascan today, about 7weeks after delivery.

Hi Jaslyn, mine also about a mth but if I do some stomach crunches or any strenuous activities will have a little spotting. I had my pap smear on week 8. Mayb you should try to rest more to let your body heal faster.

Wknrayden : I had thumbs n fingers numb, occasional pain. My gynae refer me to neurologist in the same hospital n doc diagnose is carpal tunnel syndrome - there is a blockage in the wrist that affect the nerve system. If serious, need to take a jab or worst an op. I m currently prescribe wif complex B vitamin to improve blood flow but so far not helping. I m thinking to try arcupanture or chiropractic.

Anyone encounter the same and any recommendation where to get it threated is better?

Hello again all...it's been a while since i posted.,,

My fingers are exceptionally weak with slight pain too... And I was just beginning to think it's because I didn't observe any confinement stuff (bath/wash). But my wrist not affected.

Can't imagine how ur heart might have stopped when u nearly dropped the baby!

My baby is on big side > week 10 in 2 days and he's weighing 6.475kg. Hope his neck strengthen up soon, so easier to carry...

Rugirly
I was on contraceptive pills before pregnant. I'm still bf so can't take. At first wanted to do ligation but doc says have to wait 4 hrs after birth and operate again so I give it a miss..

JTS - when I went for my follow up yesterday, gynae advised that we should start with pelvic floor exercises followed by aerobics/brisk walk then running and finally weights/ sit ups.
Every individual physical condition is different so better check with your gynae too.

Help! My baby suddenly has bad case of cradle cap. Read that can use baby oil or olive oil to soften and then clean w terry cloth and shampoo off the oil. Not sure if can apply any cream to improve the condition or treat it. Any remedies that mummies hv tried which work well? Thanks!

Hi mummies,

Just a recommendation.. my gal also suffered fm colic and brought her to pd was diagnosed with severe colic, gave her ridwind but recovery not as fast so I brought her to this children specialist tuina. It helps after 3 sessions of tuina and she had recover. Might want to consider. Add: 8b Jalan Masjid #01-04. Clinic name Yu Guo. Not exp. Hopefully it helps.

Hi wknrayden,

This is my second baby, first one I got De Quervain's tenosynovitis too.. and a bit of carpal tunnel as well.

De quervains: pain over the radial side of the wrist ( thumb side) and locking feeling. no long term side effects
Carpal tunnel: numbness, tingling over thumb, index and middle fingers. if severe/ persistent over mths-> years, can cause permanent numbness and weakness due to nerve compression.

Due to carrying 1st baby too much. baby got too heavy as the months past and i was still BF so had to carry.
I massaged the area myself/did gentle stretching/rotation exercises aka self physio and it got better, but if it doesnt, can go for jab if its really disabling. main thing that helped is posture changes, once the symptoms start, quickly change posture/use another way to carry baby. it went away by itself.

there are some GPs who can do the jab but just check that the doc u see is confident and competent to do it, otherwise can see hand surgery specialist if prob is really bad.
hope that helps abit.

gld to see the forum still going strong, ,dropped out for a while cos was too busy

(as we all are).

hang in there! for mommies who worry abt baby sleeping thru the nite, usu happens at 4-6 mths.

my 1st boy (ignatius): woke every 3-4 hrs for milk, slept thru at 4 mths. but he was great during the day, took 2 hr naps, had a good schedule.
this 2nd girl (alethea): sleeps continuously 8-9 hrs at night.. but is a "terror" during the day.. doesnt sleep more than 45 min each time. when awake, wants to be carried and entertained. heh, so dun be too envious of those whose baby's sleep thru the nite early. I'm trying out the E.A.S.Y. schedule to get her into a more regular schedule.

bottom line is: i read that babies sleep 15 hrs total at 3 mths (eg. 10 hrs during nite, 5 hrs in the day eg. over 3 naps)... but its up to them how they want to space it.. the rest of the time they need to be awake to play and grow..

God bless all your little precious ones too!

Xycartx.. usually I go in the morning around 815am b4 it open at 9am. so far still ok.. usually 2nd or 3rd patient coz priority to bb.. whole tui na abt 45min..

It's so comforting to read all your postings though I'm didn't comment until now. It seems that I'm not alone facing all the issues that you all have mentioned - jailed at home, colic and baby crying in the middle of the night.

Thank you!

joey ang: must walk in.. usually quite pack during weekend. it doesn't matter whether before or after feed.. coz my gal cried during all 3sessions so they asked me to feed her if i bring my bottle..

yap just massage on their stomach, back, foot and hand.. but of course if you have other issue can let them know.. they will do accordingly.

Hi,

any mummies who are breastfeeding their babies exclusively have experienced babies pooing less frequently eg. once in a week or two etc..?

Pfshi

Got! My baby only poo every 4 to 5 days. I am also concerned but I read online it's normal. So long baby eat n is happy. One reason for lesser poo frequency coz much of bm is absorbed by the body. Not much wasted. I also noticed my baby pee volume increased. So that is another output way bah..

Hi pfshi,

my baby poops only once every 3 days sometimes.. i think its normal too, though i do notice her tummy seems distended and she feels better after pooing. so i try to encourage it with massage and ruyi oil. check out baby tummy massage techniques online. the gas/colic/constipation all seemed to come together, so i also gave her motilum from the PD for abt 2 weeks. now she poops abit more frequently

My boy poos abt once a day now compared to prev 2-3 times a day; still having good number of wet diapers tho so not a prob. My nephew poos only once every 4-5 days and pd says it is good, absorbing most of the nutrients. So it's fine!

How I hope my little one will poo once a few days too! Currently doing around 3 poos. And he get diarrhea when I drink milk =[ waiting for the super watery poo to clear again.

Thanks Moshimaro22 for so much details.
Just went to GP, didn't ask to check if I got carpal tunnel would have ask if saw the post earlier.. hmm but no problem with index n middle fingers so shld b fine.. haha doing so much self diagnosing.

Baby only 4.5kg can't imagine when he get heavier. Trying to hold with lock wrist position whenever possible hopefully it gets better as he get heavier.

Didn't take the jab but its call triamcinolone at $40 per jab. Local injection so doesn't get into blood stream only side effect is if it diffuse is thinning and white patch at that area but will recover. Am applying stiff joints gel and if that works will skip the jabs since going back to work soon and will have rest time. Haha just hope baby's caretaker dun get it instead.

But with baby's training pretty sure all we mommies will be stronger and tougher and all these pains will soon be distant memories and be part of the stuffs to share with new mummies. =]

I go Polyclinic for vaccinations. First experience quite pleasant. Have a baby waiting area and can have priority at payment/appointment. Nurses are friendly too. Remember to call and make appt before going down. Waited for a while but as there are only parents/grandparents and babies feel quite safe as the sick patients are downstairs away from the waiting for area.

But do anyone know for sick baby, do they join the walk in queue or have priority? And the waiting area for the baby, any dedicated baby area?

Pfshi,

My baby went without pooing for 14 days when she was 6 weeks - everyone was really worried. Called the PD, his nurse said longest they have seen is 21days (was ok), asked me to check if baby's tummy is hard. If not, then it is ok.

She finally did it, and poo was ok (sorry, gross). Now she has regular bowel movement once every 3 to 4 days. All ok also.

Total breast feed, and many wet diapers a day.
