I am back, day 4 after baby hatched and day 2 at home.

My Tuesday 20 hr labor goes like that:
At week 39, low amniotic level so dr did membrane sweep for me, Dilate 1 cm immediately and next morning at Mount A, I was at 3 cm. Delighted and hope it be a quick birth with induction through pessary. But contraction was slow, irregular and only managed to go to 5cm mid noon .

To make things worse, baby is in posterior position (sunny-side up), so my labour pain is really long dull nagging back pain. Belly pain is barely felt compared to my back pain. So unbearable and I asked for epidural then.

After 15 hrs, I ran fever and dr has to inserted two “panadol” pessaries to my butt. At 8 cm, IV drugs in used to speed up my dilation further. During pushing stage, I almost did not make it and dr could have used forceps to assist. I pushed with all my might and ended up using vacuum. Baby is only 2.77kg, and dr said I have narrow pelvis (but I have child-bearing hips!). Any bigger the baby and I will likely end up with c section!

Luckily my recovery is pretty good. It’s day 4, and my episiotomy cut is pretty much not “felt”.

Now at hme day 2 with baby, already abit post-natal blues. I am on total BF since day 1 and my nipples are sore and I am at the beck and call of baby. Further more, there is one side latching difficulty due to my short nipple. Decided to opt for pumping, since I have to do one side, may as well do both side. Hope pumping will save me some sanity, suckling pain and little more ‘freedom’.

Baby has been little cranky and crying non-stop really makes me wanna cry at the same time. Being first time mummy, I am happy to read all the stories shared by mummies here. At least I know I am not alone....
 


Hello mummies.. Have not posted regularly since birth of #2.. It's really difficult coping with #1 together with bf #2.. Today hubby not at home I couldn't latch #2 at all as #1 need attention .. So a bit upset, could only pump and let CL feed cos faster and more flexible.. And my CL say baby may forget how to latch!!! Hiaz.. Really difficult toggling between the 2..

Full house.. I also stayed in mount e.. And thought service quality is good.. I liked the room and nurses respond to calls v fast and they are v helpful as well.. I tried the confinement food menu and some of the soups on the menu are really quite good and bu kind.. the sofa bed that hub slept on was comfy as well.. They also provide nursing gowns that facilitate bf..Only negative point was there were a lot of babies in the nursery during my stay and I could hear babies cry at night, as my room is just opposite the nursery.. But I couldn't hear any renovations going on..
 
Celia Jia you!! Pumping will save some sanity if you have CL to help you feed.. Or u can alternate between pumping and latching to relieve your sore nipples a bit..

Formummies having engorgement, if possible put baby to breast to latch. No pump is as good as commpared to baby suckle Tt is effective in clearing engorgement.

I latching bb full time but pump after every feed.

agreed! Yes, they are the best 'pump' to clean and prevent engorgement.

Not painful and very effective esp when they are older! :p

I think it depends - I ended up having to pump after latching because my girls have small appetite and I had engorgement... It's double the time at times. Moreover, mine are twins and I feel really abused (aka sore) after every latch. However, the best thing about latching is the convenience, esp when you are out.

I faxed in my pre-registration form and they don't do acknowledge or call back so nothing was mentioned. Usually, natural delivery will stay 3D2N and C-sect is 4D3N. If your baby has jaundice and needs to stay longer, you can speak to Dr Ong to let you stay another day. FYI, if you stay at Mt E, Dr Ong usually makes his visit ard 12-1pm. If you stay in Mt A, he usually makes the visit early morning (based on #1 experience).

sore nipple is due to wrong latching. sometimes it is also due to bb small mouth and hard to latch correctly. out of 10 mums, 9.5 will hv sore nipple &amp; engorgement due to wrong latch. After a while, bb will learn to latch correctly, mum also learn to guide correctly.

If latch correctly, most of the time, will be empty as supply = demand. Some mum have very fast production rates, so this actually promote bb to latch more.

Anyway... most bb now are only a few weeks old, awhile later, sore nipple n engorgement prob will be solved.

Now that u mention, yes my boy has small mouth! No wonder I feel he is like a piranha when he latches altho he already try to open his mouth and I will also try pushing his lower lip down! Haha...
 
Hi all I ve delivered tis afternoon @ parkway east!!!! Woke wit contractions I nvr felt bfre.. Felt my pelvic bones tearing apart n the urge of wanting to pass motions.. @ 5 plus am.. The pain keep coming back til 7 plus I decided to wake my hub up who kept laughin at my facial expre.. 9 plus my mil ask my FIL to send me to hosp.. Hub say wait til gt sign...

Called dr heng clinic n told nurse Jenny hw I was feeling n she ask me to head to hosp w the papers fr dr heng

Reach hosp abt 11 or 12 after showering n get myself prepared plus hubby of cos who showered longer than me

Went to delivery ward 6!! My fav no.. Lol it was a bright room w nthg tt scares me off :p the nurses are super frenly n helpful n best listeners

dilation 1-2cm.. Then did the flush thing to flush out my waste matter fr my body.. Then nurse Beatrice broke my water bag n took time to show me n explain to me wad the colours meant.. N explained in detail the various options tt I can go for to ease my pain.. I chose laughing gas :p I was put on a drip to stimulate contractions..

Dr heng popped over n I was dilated to 3-4 cm.. So she went for her lunch bfre comin back to me.. I was in such pain then I can't really rem much details.. I definitely vomited many times due to my lactose intolerance as well as the laughing gas.. But I stand firm on nt havin epidural...

3 plus I dilated to 5 cm.. I tink.. Can't rem much I was quite gorgy then.. I opt for the pain killer jab on my butt.. Doze off in between contractions n let out loud my pain.. Lol wonder if I shake the entire hosp .. Lol can't ctrl.. Then bfre I knew it dr heng n did her magic on me.. At 5cm dilation nurse told my hub I hv to wait at least abt 8 hrs.. But wit dr heng comin in my princess arrive to tis world bfre 5.. I heard she ask me to push n dnt moan lol cos I was divertin all my energy to letting out my agony instead of pushing :x a lot of nurses assisted me to push.. Some push tummy some hold on to my legs n of vos hub helped me a lot too.. Baby gt vacuum out

Sylvia, yup yup you are so right, the lactation nurse did mention baby's mouth too small.
Anyway, I'm finally done with my pumping. Gonna go sleep now... I realised having sufficient sleep is important for supply, so mummies, do try to have as much as rest possible.

Jlau and mummies who gave birth w/o Epi, you are amazing!! :D
 
mummies, I have some painful contractions on n off since 3am, should I go hospital or just wait? not very regular but last 30 secs each time.. no other signs yet waterbag still there no blood.. but contractions are really painful..

U time ur contractions... the intervals should be getting shorter like 5-8 mins apart. U just do ur normal stuffs now to distract yourself from the pain, like get ready your hospital bag, bathe, have Bfast if possible. If really Buay tahan the pain, just make your way to the hospital. Today is Sunday, the roads should be quite empty. Remember to inform for ur Gynae bef u head off to the hospital. Call the emergency hotline.

It's the interval between contractions (end of 1 abd start of another) that matter more than the duration of the contractions. If 5min apart, most gynae will ask you to go hospital to check.

Happy Sunday mummies,
Though it does not feel like the usual Sunday. Used to going around for nice Sunday brunches, now no more le.
Today is the 3rd day after discharge with no nursery to send baby to at night. Hubby volunteered to do the night shift (12mn -7am) so that I can rest n recover better, but he is like super tired when I took over the shift in the morning as baby can stay awake n crying for abt 3-4hours in the middle of the night. Baby's pattern haven really form n his drinking n sleeping hours are sometimes really random.

Had not been latching much after discharge from hospital as baby seems to find the flow too slow n tend to fall asleep while latching end up dunno how much he drank n the latching timings also quite confusing as he will cry for milk every now n then. So I have been pumping out instead.
Milk supply finally kicked in yesterday and the amount pumped out though not a lot seems quite decent. We are also supplementing with FM in between pumps, so far I am pumping at 5 hour intervals. So that breasts dun get too engorged n sore.

Can u help me to update my son weight is 4.224kg. A very big size boy who took me 18hrs to give birth to him. But now he's at special care nursery. Hopefully can go hm tml. I extended my stay at kkh for 2 days to accompany him. As I don't want to leave him alone here.

Take care and rest well! Am sure your boy will be well looked after in the SCN n hope he can be discharged soon! Believe you can also ask the SCN nurses to show u how to bathe him, change him etc and even hands on while u are still there w him.

. I also drank coconut juice n ate the flesh 2x before delivery and baby really was very clean when delivered! My hb was so surprised coz he expected baby to be covered in a lot of mucus like fluid etc. Not sure if really due to the coconut but it seems to work for me

bdmummy : Thanks! Today is 2nd day after the VE and i still have brownish discharge but not a lot, dont look like it is mucus plug as it should be a lot and lumpy right? No close contractions or water break either... seem like my baby want me to be anxious of her arrival..

Serene : what brand FM you use for new born? I check the stores, all the FM seems to say for "after 6 months" leh.. i think i need to standby 1 tin too..

if u look carefully, newborn FM are very small tin ones. as they encourage bm, so it's nt very clearly placed.

As for nutrients, all FM are actually similar if u compare content.
Similac tends to cause constipation due to over packed nutrient.
Friso Gold emphasize on Pre-biotic &amp;pro-biotic ( improve immune system),
Nan Ha ( sensitive bb),
Nan Pro claimed to be very near bm,

Feel so sad now. My baby is hospitalised for high jaundice level at KK hospital. Couldn't stop crying just now when the doctor informed that she must stay overnight.

The doctor said she will call us to update the jaundice level later again. Hopefully my baby can be discharged tomorrow.

Dun worry. I think they ask baby to stay one night is for phototherapy? I think it is natural to feel worried to be separated from baby when they are still so small, but phototherapy is very safe for baby, so dun worry too much baby will be ok very soon.

I am using the Hipp Organic combiotic first infant milk. It comes in a box rather than in a tin. Should be available in those shops that sell organic stuff, I saw before in the Baby Online shop at 112 Katong Mall.

For newborn, I tried Friso &amp; karihome goat milk as they seemed to be easily digest.
Nan Ha taste bitter.

taste wise, u hv to try on bb to see bb reject or nt. That will be testing.

But this time round, I went to buy Japanese milk brand - Haha as what I found out was the content is different from wat I stated and looking at sg bb using sg brand &amp; jap brand, they digest faster when they drink Jap brand, which to me will be similar to bm and not so sweet like most brands found here. Won't cause the fat to deposit into bb and become michelin bb. I will update u on this later, can?

it's very common for asian bb to have jaundice due to liver immaturity. Don't worry!!
BB in good hand.

I think most mums here experience jaundice prob from avg to high.

U can sun tan in the morning when bb is home for 20-30mins depending on how strong is the sun. Afternoon sun if possible avoid or just 10mins will do. cover bb's eyes.
 
Hi snow_tea, my baby had slight jaundice prior to discharge.. The PD advised to sun bathe baby for 5-10mins in the morning.. Best timing is from 8-10am.. Some elderly people has some remedy for jaundice which I dunno what it is called.. My mum bought from the Chinese medical hall and placed it in a red packet near baby's pillow (where he lied on).. Thereafter, she will break them and put in a water to wipe baby's face.. I also avoided eating ginger during my confinement..
 
Snow_tea, I bought 'ang Kee' from Chinese medical hall (shd be the same one as mentioned by Joey) and bath baby with it. Jaundice went down from 11 to 7.3. Quite effective. U can give it a try if u don't mind.

I so worried I will give birth on the taxi and at home
 
My bb drink fiercely as a result I got sore nipples and bleed. In the end, decided to pump 100% and supplement with FM. Currently my BM is abt 20ml (both sides add tgt). As CL attends to all bb's need. Can't help but felt lousy tt I'm not able to latch bb, bond with him and doing my duty as parents.

It's ok to pump exclusively, dun be too hard on yourself or stress yourself ya? Feeding bm to bb is already a wei da task and not easy, so give yourself a big pat on the back! Initially days I also supplemented w fm and am also pumping bm rather than latching on for most feeds except prob 1 feed at night as I find that timewise more manageable since I do not hv a cl.

Dun worry too much.... Am sure baby is in good hands. Think positively - phototheraphy is fastest way to bring down jaundice level and soon u will be able to bring bb home. Do ensure bb drinks suff milk so as to flush their system and shoo away the jaundice. Take care!

This second labour took less than 30min after reaching hospital. Till now I still cant believe it happened this way
Lucky my gynae remembered I have fast labour for first one too and he rushed down

below is my birth stories:
I have gave birth to my girl on 10 Jan: )
I have contraction since 8 Jan.the interval becomes more frequent so I decided to admit on 10 Jan ard 5am!
When I admit I already 4cm dilated so I opt for epi. The epi really helps alot! My labour took abt 9 hrs plus in total.

Tmc stays:
I stayed at level 3 and is one bedded.overall the stays is OK. I can say not all nurses are attentive n helpful But there are few which I find really gd

Breastfeeding: being a first time mum I got lots of ??? And I need help from you all....hope u all dun mind helping me...hee!
Usually hw many days the BM will starts to kick in? I Think my BM still not in yet although I have been latching since day 1!
Now I have to supplement with FM after every latch. I bought pump But seems like there is no milk after I tried using the pump. Any ways to speed up the milk flow?

also my girl's jaundice level is quite high and she need to stays when I discharged on 12 Jan.I am so sad and keep.crying after knowing she needs to stay! Lucky on 13 Jan I can bring her back But still must monitor her level n sunbath her at home. Any ways can help reduce the level other than sunbath her? I heard bm can helps too Cos can flush away the level through the urine But I got no bm yet ;(

Dear all, thank you so much for the suggestions to decrease the jaundice level.

Rugirly, you can try the method which FRIENDS used. Buy "ang kee" from Chinese medical hall. I will try this method when baby is back.

KK called last night and informed me that baby's jaundice level increased so they will increase the no of lights shone on baby.

Now waiting for another update which they informed will call me at 6am. Still waiting....

Jlau, my gynae asked me to buy Fenugreek from pharmacy. He says GNC sells it more expensive when the effects are actually same if you buy at pharmacy.

I kepts walking around cos I feel guilty not doing anything as I see my husband and mother so busy. They keep asking to lie down on bed but that is only night time then I will oblige. Other times will see me beside baby's cot looking at her.
