Not sure if Dr Ong does episiotomy because he was overseas when I delivered #1 early (imagine my shock at the hospital when the nurse told me so), but he has never brought that up for discussion throughout my #1 pregnancy. This time round, I have been told to go for C-sect right from the beginning so nothing was discussed on natural.

One thing I do know is he is very pro-breastfeeding! He came back only in time to discharge me after I delivered #1 and was shocked that no lactation nurse visited me during my stay at Mt A (I was also blur enough not knowing what to do/request). After he went out of my room, I have 2 different lactation nurses coming to my room that day to teach me how to latch. Heard that he went out and reprimanded them... :p
 
Bdmummy: jia you! gynae did VE for me today too - 0cm, so sad! I felt so uncomfortable once I reached home! Had cramps from 7.30 to 8.30pm, about 5 mins apart but subsided after that... Contemplated going to KKh but now seems ok... No bleeding though

Is it possible to be 0cm dilated when gynae did the VE then dilation speed up all of a sudden?
 
Elp_mum: For #1, thot typically wld need more than 10hrs for dilation? I was 1cm dilated when gynae checked this aftnn. Crampy feel but no major contraction yet. Any ways to speed up the process?

Maybe you can nipple stimulation ( manual or w breast pump) n making out. I read sperm contains prostaglandin that can speed up labour.

I am also not dilated n scared of my scheduled membrane sweep this coming Monday, so I tried both methods last night. Hope w see some results over the weekend. Hehee.

Are you going to bring them to and from lessons, enrichment or school? are you requesting they stop for a mOnth or are you getting others to bring them to class?

Morning mummies, nothing happened last night.... Still got bleeding which is likely to continue. Doctor on rounds this morn checked me and still only 3cm dilated. They will be asking gynae if wanna induce by breaking water bag. Now strapped to ctg again think contractions starting again, but still not painful.

Although my cervix closed during VE, gynae managed to dilate it 1cm wor. U should be fine since no bleeding. Take care!

I also hope Raffles service will be good. So far from the tour the staff look friendly n the environment seems very conducive. Cross our fingers.
For the lactation specialist wise, they did not really mentioned abt staying extra day. They told me they have demonstration n lactation specialist to help teach how to breast feed.
Anyway, I heard C sec more difficult to breast feed due to the wound n likely need more help to breast feed while lying.

Any other mummies who had been thru C section can share the experience?
Cos all along I am more prepared for natural, sudden change of plans I abit blur Liao.

If ur bb decide to pop early then ur gynae dun have to consider C Section le. Jiayou!
I am still hoping maybe these 2 days bb decide to come out by himself then maybe I no need to cut. But so far I got no signs of early labour except for big bb doing lotsa stretching n kungfu inside. Feel so tight.

Mummies...

Juz came bk fr my appt. dr said I can deliver any time after today. Asked me to monitor for contractions... Etc...

He mentioned tat bb is est 2.8kg.. But cld easily hit 3.3-3.4 once delivered... Told me its a big baby.. And asked me to ctl my diet
 
serene : also have to depend on the size of my bb. currently is more than 4kg, so am skeptical i can go thru' natural birth.

Hi mummies who went thru csect, can check with you all whether you bought your own binder or used the one hospital provides?

I will be having my csect on Monday and not very sure if I should bring my own and whether gynae will use it or not.

yes, I thikn c-sect as it's a op so u tend to be weaker n need help esp sitting up can be painful. just relax n try to bf when u can.

Random: Mummies who have delivered. Hw do u time the contractions? I hv contraction-like feeling but the pain is manageable. I'm clueless when to go hosp.

My hospital stated that they do not provide binder n likely u will need to buy from them. I already got one from my gynae yesterday. The staff told me to just bring it with the hospital bag the nurse can use it on us after the surgery. So if u have one u just bring along.

I am not very sure too, but the hospital's instructions to me previously was to go hospital directly if
1) the contractions are at 5 min intervals, or
2) when u have greenish discharge or
3) when water bag burst.

Hi Snow_tea, you might want to get the tummy binder from your gynae.. It's cheaper than getting from the hospital..

I also asked my dr about going to hospital at 5min interval. He said will be too late and too painful for me by then. Rather I head at 10 mins interval. At least I can check in hospital at a more comfortable stage.

In fact he also prefer I head down straight away should my water bag bursts or bloody show occurs.

I just had my last appt with gynae this morning but he didn't mention anything. Only after I left then I remember about the binder. Not sure if he has it or not.

I previously saw a tummy binder for after-surgical use selling at tmc for $59.

Now contemplating whether to buy on Monday before my op.
 
Cos afraid the one I have may not be good enough then end up still have to pay extra cos the nurse use the hospital de.
 
Snow tea, I just bought the tummy binder from my gynae today. Was told that they will bring it along for my csect next week. Maybe you want to call your gynae clinic and check with them?
 
Hi serene and angeliqeous, I delivered my #1 in Raffles in 2011. I like their service and everything. Only the confinement food is not so nice. But their menu is like hotel style. Enjoy!
 
Hi Mummies, I just went for my Week 36 check up... Baby has not gain any weight (2.5kg) since last week's visit &amp; I actually loss weight too... BP slightly high as commented by gynae...

Is this normal? Gynae will see me again on 10 Jan.. If baby still doesn't gain weight &amp; my BP is still high, need to induce at Week 38...

Being 1st time mum, I'm slowly feeling scared and loss...
 
Hi mummydt, don't stress yourself too much.. Most importantly, just monitor your condition closely these few days. If u feel unwell with symptoms such as Headaches, blurred or altered vision, Abdominal or shoulder pain, Nausea and vomitting, confusion and shortness of breath, perhaps u might want to contact your gynae (before your appt).. Jiayou!

if you have a BP machine at home, you can also take your BP readings each day to ensure it does not reach dangerous levels..

Pelvic examination or vaginal ex, is done by gynae/midwife/nurse to check for dilation in the cervix. They insert finger in to estimate how many centimeters. Not all Gynae do it, ESP if you are second time mum coz the cervix could already be slightly dilated, thus giving false impression of impending labour. Sometimes it could also also trigger labour :p

Episiotomy is just slight incision done at vaginal to prevent tearing as the bb emerge.

Sorry for being MIA past two days. I've been having fever since my platelet transfusion and was placed under observation. I have been place on drips and have only "learnt to walk" yesterday. It's no joke sitting on bed for two days! It's a pain in the arse!
As I haven't been resting enough (baby crying lots for milk), I haven't had time to follow the thread. I'm sorry. Will try to catch up with the reading when I have time!

Snow tea: I used the binder provided by the hospital previously. Gynae put on for me in the operating theatre. I'll be bringing along the same one this time round.

I'm quite worried abt bb's hearing test, he failed on right ear , anyone got such prob too? My bleeding seems a lot too, not sure how much is normal. My foot still v swollen and tummy still v big.. All diff when I have no1 , this round is worse than before

my feet is still very swollen too. my friend was telling me massage will help.. so hoping that after my massage, all will come down..

can i ask also if mummies start using the breast pump on day 3? coz now i see only colostrum.. so i think there wun be enough to flow to the bottle.. but still not mastering the way to hold bb for bf-ing. can anyone advice? thks in advance!
 
Serene &amp; snow tea: I was (and will be) a c-sec mum. Yup b/f will be more challenging for c-sec mums due to the pain of the wound whenever we move, plus kicks from the bb. Perseverence is key and also don't skip the painkillers too quickly. Get help from hubby or nurses to bring bb to you and help in positioning of the bb in a position that is comfortable to you. It was tough and I suspected the lack of rest and frequent movements contributed to my wound infection, but I survived lah and managed to TBF for #1, and hope to be able to do so for #2 too.

Snow tea: Depends on whether your hospt provides binder; I think most provide at a cost (usually more ex than outside retail price, you can be sure), so depends on whether you like the type they provide and whether you wish to buy on your own and bring. What I did was to ask in advance and google for feedback on that brand provided.
 
siewz: There's no hard and fuss rule on when to start pumping. But I find that pumping stimulates demand (and hence supply) even though it is just colostrum. Only that pumping during initial days made me feel very demoralised cos it's just so little, so shy that I don't dare to show anyone. But after pumping for a few days the supply goes up dramatically. Jia you ok!
 
I din use my binder as having heat rashes... nw trying to recall where did I keep it........

nt cheap so wont be buying. then end up like last time, only use a few times.

@mummydt, yes.. Agree with Sylvia.. Some mummies got it and I was one of the cases.. I was diagnosed with preeclampsia at 34w5d.. So, baby has to be delivered immediately cos my BP very high (180/100).. Though the covering gynae managed to control my BP with the help from the anaesthetic, baby's heart rate is dropping.. So, I went through an emergency c-sect.. Eventually, baby's umbilical cord also entangled round his neck..

@Serene, yes, agree with Sylvia and piggy_mum.. C-sect is indeed challenging for bf ESP the getting up and down of bed for expressing or bf-ing the baby.. I am also getting used to have the c-sect wound (my earlier 2 deliveries were natural) and to bf the baby.. You will really need the support of your hubby, CL or whoever is helping you in the confinement on this.. Just don't be afraid to ask for help.. Jiayou! Eventually, u'll realize this can be achievable.. I am into the 2nd week after my delivery now, and is managing well..

Hi all,
Baby like know he's going to come out by induce labour on thursday. This morning while shopping for stuff at NTUC, I feel sharp and 'sour' pain at my lower abdominal and my whole stomach feel very tight and a bit pain too. Scare the hell out of me and my hubby as it last quite long and very close. Is that a contraction? And also when I get up or walk, my inner thigh near my vagina there is very painful. Almost can't walk already. And now I still on and off feel the pain in my stomach. Do you think I'll go into labour before my induce date? Or it's only I too stress out about everything...
