Ovary too high for egg retrieval

Hi, my left ovary is above the uterus and not accessible for transvaginal egg retrieval in IVF. In my last IVF, egg was retrieved via abdominal incision. But my current doctor told me he rather poke through uterus to reach ovary to retrieve egg, I was quite shock, wouldnt it cause any damage for needle to poke through uterus? He said the risk is lower going through uterus to reach ovary than via abdominal, the uterus is used to all kind of tormentation anyway.
Anyone who has some knowledge or experience to share?

Hi Chingching,
sorry i don't have any knowledge nor experience but i would advise you to seek 2nd or 3rd opinion frm other docs as well. Cos it's best to hv minimal invasive procedures esp to the womb..you don't know what will happen in the long run and even if you do bfp, then with a puncture in the uterus, i don't know about you, but if i were you, i would be scared that in any case, it might affect bb's growth.. My 2 cents...

Thanks for sharing your view

Hi chingching, my left ovary also too high for egg retrieval. It is stuck to uterus wall and my doctor in nuh say it is not reachable by needle via virgina. Nuh does not practise abdominal retrieve, so i will chage to sgh. May i know who is your doctor who can still retrieve via virgina? I am not sure if abdominal egg retrieval has any impact to our reproduction system as well. Able to share your current planning?

Hi Ching Ching,

I have similar problem as you. I was told that they only retrieved eggs from one side after my surgery. was very upset.

My doc said ovary position may be adjusted but need to go through surgery to check and adjust if it is feasible. they may also stitch it lower if need to. I am considering that but still worry about the negative implication and the cost involved.
