Hello mums to be , i am new here and i am expecting my 1st baby, not sure if prenatal classes are necessary for me & my hubby?

I'm 35 weeks now and I did not take any! I have asked around all my friends, and they say nothing can really prepare you for real life. Besides with this information age, there is nothing you cannot learn yourself over the internet. I love to research and always read the internet. And my friends agree with me that there is nothing these classes provide that you cannot search online.
Of course these classes are all good to have. But I won't say they are crucial to your baby's survival! Provided you are the proactive type in research!

I didn't go for any. Sometimes it's best to rely on your own wits and logic + reading up books/articles/forum discussions.

Nothing will ever prepare u well enough 'cos when you're in labour, there's not much time to remember so much.

Like what minigingerbread posted, not crucial to take up all courses. Best thing I had was to have my hb in the delivery ward -- managed to deliver real fast after he finished up the admin (forms etc) and came in help rah rah

Well, no harm going. I went for prenatal classes and I must say the info shared can be easily found online or fr friends. Just that I want my hubby to be more invloved as well. That is why I insisted that he attend with me. Usually, the mummies are the one who are more proactive in looking for answers online but not the men. So getting them to attend classes with you will get them involved and excited about the arrival of the baby. Also, they will be nmore appreciative of what mummies went thru and are more informed when the baby is here. I think my hubby learnt how to swaddle a baby from the class and he did a beta job than me!

So, i suggest that you and your hubby attend the classes. It is also a time for bonding for the both of u!
