Hi Mummies-to-be.

Does any mummy here has hyperthyroidism before conceiving? Just want to know how safe is the medication before TTC. And do you consult any specialist with regards to the thyroid condition during pregnancy?
Hope mummies here could share your experiences.

Hi , I have thyroid when I am having my secong child but when I discovered that I had thyroid , its already too late coz its already 20 wks. As my thyroid was very serious at that time n I am allergic to the medicine which is safe for pregnancy, therefore I have to take the normal medicine but its will slightly affect the baby, its best to consult a endocrine n a gynae together during pregnancy as its a risk to have thyroid during pregnancy. Even I was having my third & fourth child, I am still on medication. As long as u maintain your thyroid level, it will be safe for u n the baby.

i was on carbimazol when I first had thyroid. when I was doing family planning, I switch to PTU who is pregnancy safe. during my pregnancy I have to go and see my endocrinologist on a monthly basis because the thyroid might shoot up. so need to monitor. about 4 months into the pregnancy, I switched back to carbimazol as PTU might cause liver issue to baby.

Just to share, I had hyperactive thyroid. Took PTU during before, during and after pregnancy. Total period was 18 months before doctor declared to me that I have to go for treatment as medicines is not the suitable method for me. Thus, I went for radioactive treatment in Jan 2015 and went to take my blood test this morning. Now awaiting for the results.

Doctor told me that there is a chance that I will need to take thyroid supplement everyday for life. Cross finger that I do not need it.

Hi Ladies, I have a contact for an endocrinologist, should you feel more assured consulting one for thyroid problems. Feel free to pm me if you need.

hi, i've got hypothyroidism before pregnancy, been taking thyroxine throughout pregnancy and just delivered a healthy bb girl. definitely must see an endocrine doctor to monitor your hormone level. if you tell your gynae, i think they will refer you to ent doc as well.
