How my girl got discriminated at Amazonia Great World

i went the above yesterday n wanted my girl, who is 10mths old to try their playground. The receptionist greeted me politely n said its free for babies <1, then she asked if I hv socks. I said I do. She then looked at my girl n asked what happened. I said she has eczema (red patches on cheeks n some red marks on her hands as she scratches). She then looked at her palms (which was normal). She looked up and said solemnly "sorry its crowded today u wont want to go in". She repeated it 2x. I then asked if i can go in to take a look if I cant play.. She said i cannot bring my girl in (But I just want to take a look!) And then guess what, I saw other toddlers queuing to go in! I can only say my girl has been discriminated against as the poorly informed receptionist thinks that eczema is contagious! Its alarming how she shut me off and went off to talk to other customers. Oh yes, and I asked if there is an email I can write to to feedback my experience, the same girl thrusted me their brochure and said I can email them anytime and went away. Really appalling.

Mummies, if u have kids with eczema or skin sensitivities, pls avoid Amazonia as they wont take u in! Such blatant discrimination is sad when a kid with skin sensitivities is perfectly capable of playing in a playground, without spreading it to anyone.

Amazonia, pls read up and know more about kids if u are going to be in this business. You may just ruin a child's confidence if you continue to be so uninformed and rude to the little ones!

Hi Lush,

Sorry if what I say is going to anger you, I really meant no harm. Just want you to try looking at it from another angle. Okay... Don't angry huh...

The receptionist isn't a doctor or nurse or at the very least, a childcare teacher, I'm not even sure if she's a mother. When she sees abnormalies on your child, not knowing what it actually is, even thou it's just eczema, she'll rather not take that risk by taking your words and thus allow the safety of the entire playground to be compromised. How is she to answer to her boss if it isn't eczema and it actually happens to be contagious?

While I think she's taking the proper preventive measure, reject entry to any situations she can't be sure of, I think she could've better conveyed that msg by explaining in details her rationale and seek your understanding rather than just telling you that you can't enter or you can enter but without your child which is rather crude and easily misunderstood.

I won't say it's discrimination, it's far from it. Discrimination would be if you see the playground is filled with a certain skin colour, the "upper classes" of people or other possible forms.

Just like childcare centres, the teachers at the gate won't risk the safety of the entire centre by allowing entry any kid with illness symptoms she couldn't identify right? She would instead ask you to bring your kid home or get doctor's certification that you child is fit enough for school correct?

Let's just say she has an ultra strong and rigid firewall that blocks entry to even the harmless.
