Fetus Small Size for its age - IUGR? Placenta problem?

Hi, at my 22 week scan, doctor said that my baby is small size and asked me to eat more. The baby's head circumference, abdominal circumference, ear-to-ear measurement, femur length etc have been in the 10th centile (meaning lower than 90% of the fetus out there).

Im worried about intera-uterine growth retardation or placenta problems or chromosomal problems. Any mommies out there with same problem and deliver normal healthy babies?

When did your growth spurt come?

I still dont obviously pregnant until now.

try to eat more more durians n also drink more maternal milk. It helps a lot. Focus on baby growth n dun give yourself too much stress.

relax and have a balanced diet. most of the time the scans are an estimation and not 100% accurate. when i had #1 the dr also said she was small (but i don't remember what percentile). we were worried but in the end she was born 3.5kg.

btw are u petite? from what i've observed petite mothers usually don't have big babies.

IUGR or other problems can usually be diagnosed by the dr so if dr didn't say anything don't scare yourself too much.

Hi all. Thanks for the replies. We went for another growth scan at 28 weeks and baby's measurements dropped from 10th centile to 5th centile. Cant help but feeling worried. Been trying to eat durian 3-4 times a week, eat 2 eggs per day and drink milk. Hopefully baby's growth will catch up. Im dont think I am considered petite.... height 1.65m and normal weight around 55-57 kg.

did the fetal dr asked you to go for amino test or did any bloodtest to test for blood infection? if not, I believe you are pretty safe. As the scan and levels are based on your Last Menses Date, the chart may be off if your LMD is not accurate. If you baby is conceived via IVF, please inform and remind your gynae about it.

monitor your baby kicks more carefully.
