(2014/08) August 2014

thanks all mummies. it is indeed a huge relief for me and my hubs.

waiwish, i wish u all the best for coming friday. i am currently 14.5 weeks

I went for second opinion with my previous gynae (Dr S F Loh) at TMC, and the NT measurement is still the same. He suggested to dump oscar test altogether saying with NT at 3.3mm coupled with my age, oscar test will return with bad results. No point doing that. Just go straight to harmony test which is non invasive. So i did harmony test yesterday, praying results will allow me to carry the little one to full term healthily.

Next 2-3 weeks will be agonising but I will cast my anxieties to the Lord and pray for his miracle of life to continue in me healthily. It is tough, as I prepare myself for the worse.

I went onto the thread on mid term pregnancy termination in this forum, and read how some ladies had to induce labour and give birth to babies that were still kicking...and i could only cry while reading their stories. I could almost feel the pain just reading their stories...

Waiwish,
Praying that your harmony test will turn out to be fine. It will be tough for these 2- weeks, while waiting a the result. Try to think more positively this period, always believe a miracle will happen.
I have a friend who has very high risk from the OSCAR result, and harmony test is not available for her that time. She has to go through the Amniotic fluid test which is highly dangerous. Result: She still have a health baby.
OSCAR only give about 90% accuracy... harmony will be 99% accuracy...
your baby will be fine.

Hi mummies, I have just returned from Prof Ananda's clinic. He gave me good news, as he said he has found no physical abnormalities in my baby. my risk has reduced from 1:428 (from oscar test) to 1:1019 (from genetic scan with prof ananda). so hubby and I decided to let matter rest here and not proceed with amnio test. it is really a huge relief. and seriously, prof ananda is the most professional and expert one i have seen before. he did measurements which i have not seen any gynae or sonographist do before. mummies who need 2nd opinion, i highly highly recommend him.

oh prof ananda gave me a bonus as well. he scanned and showed us that we are carrying a girl!! :)

i wish all mummies here good luck. thank you for keeping me in your prayers, and i will continue to pray for you and your little one as well. most importantly, please keep positive.
Hi Didy, could u share the contact details of this Prof? Will you get the results immediately?

I just called the clinic. The staff was extremely unhelpful and rather rude. She refuse to tell me what the screening is for. Just said "if you want to know more? Then you come down. " I can't take leave as I just started my new job and the clinic doesn't do scanning on Saturdays. Am so very frustrated now!

rest of mummies, do continue to stay strong & positive!

The website is ssr.com.sg u can find all the details of the scan there. Yes the result is immediate. Prof ananda will look at the scans and analyse on the spot. It's just scan, no blood test unless prof ananda thinks u need blood test. But it's probably the most detailed scan I have ever encountered.

Thanks Shirley, I probably will just wait to do my amniocentesis at 16 weeks. Just that the wait is agonising...

Hi Leanne, am abt 14 weeks plus. Wonder y my gynae didn't suggest CVS

Hi Leanne, am abt 14 weeks plus. Wonder y my gynae didn't suggest CVS

If I am not wrong, CVS has to be done prior to 14 weeks maybe that's why your gynae didn't suggest that. Some forum said CVS carry a higher risk but KKH said risk is the same for both ( I guess its cause at KKH it's the same person conducting both ) ... But I still optforCVS cause I really cannot wait ...

One more week to my results ...

Hi Jo Lin,

I think there's a cut off date for CVS.
For example in my case, they told me the last date for me to do CVS is 19 Feb.
But then 1st day that I can do Amino is 5th Mar, so there's a gap in between.

Is it ok to drink teh halia at this stage? I heard teh is cooling and best to avoid, just wondering if anyone knows?

Not sure about Teh Halia.. But Ginger is not cooling right?
Anyway, as I am going into 2nd trimester, my Chinese Sinseh said can drink some mild cooling 'herbal tea' like chrysanthemum and barley (hot or warm ones, no cold drinks) but don't go crazy on them.

Hi waiwish, my harmony result was released to me in just 8 calendar days later....so you should get your test result soon to ease your worries.

Jia you!

Hi Durham, that's fast. Where did you do your harmony test? Did the clinic call or the gyane call?
Based on 8 calender days, it will be this Friday. I did last Thursday but was told results out in about 2 weeks.

I have an appt with Camden for the genetic scan this Friday, had wanted to change it to this afternoon but was told it is better to do it at 14w.

Based on ovulation date, I am 13w3d. Based on last scan on last Thursday, I was 13w5d then so that makes today 14w3d. The lady at the centre asked so which date should she follow, I was lost. She then said let's stay with Friday for the scan to be on the safe side. They prefer doing the scan at 14w for better measurements.

I really have to acquire patience in this journey.

This morning, we started getting our little one to join in the prayer. We prayed together as a family of 3 for the little one's safety in growing healthily in my womb.

Hi waiwish.

Had the test at gynae clinic but was served by an external staff. She definitely do not work at the gynae clinic.

My gynae staff called me to inform the result.

Is your gynae clinic at TMC?

Same as mine, the lady from the lab came over to collect my blood. Lab is just across the street and she said it's under TMC. I suppose if all turns out well, usually clinic staff will call. Like my oscar results was depressing, the gynae had to call me personally to ensure my concerns are addressed at his break of negative news.

I hope I do not hear from my gynae with the Harmony test, but a mere call from the clinic staff to share joy. Praying, wishing and hoping...

ladies, do you still feel queasy at this stage? My nausea went away last week but it seems to have returned slowly since Saturday and now in full swing. I do not actually throw up (not at all so far) but the thought of food makes me want to puke. It's just that wanting to puke feeling all day, and it gets intensified towards end of day.

Wondering if anyone of you still feel this way though we are into our second trimester.

Yes Waiwish, it does for me still esp if i didnt have a proper meal for lunch. Which is pretty hard for me since i have to tk care of my active #1 too. Sour gummies does help alil thou. Are u taking meals regularly? I think lots of fluids does helps too.

And i yearn for cold drinks! I know TCM says no cold drinks at all times. Anyone drank cold drinks this period?

Me! I drink n eat whatever i feel like .. like salmon sashimi , cha soba cz i cant stomach much other food. As per what my gynae advised, cold stuff are generally ok, as we will be feeling hot n sweaty due to our hormones changes, so jz go ahead. Bt thats of coz from Westerner dr point of view.

Didn't had any symptom for the first 2 months, nausea kick in 3rd month and I can't take oily food.. all will be vomitted out.. occasionally feel nausea but not causing me any problem...
For me it's the hip pain that at times it's bad that I can't stand properly especially after lying for long period of time ... But usually only happen at night

Queasiness went away for me completely once I hit 14th week. Appetite is back to normal again. Was a hungry hippo during 1st tri.
Btw anyone feels their bump is shrinking?? There are some days I feel like I am going to explode but others, I feel like not pregnant, ie no bump. The mystery of the elusive bump.

Yah! Me too! But I have a colleague who had sashimi through her pregnancy and her baby is very healthy. I don't have the guts to try and that is one food I miss the most!!

Same here leanne, was a salmon addict before preggies too..n totally hold off any for my #1 pregnancy in 2012.. this time round, my MS was so bad my weight drop... bt somehow only craved for salmon sashimi. Double checked with my gynae n he say is safe to eat. =)

I realised the bump is only more obvious after meals..due to bloating, and ya a times ppl cant even tell my preggies that make me paranoid. Ahh... But im sure growth will be much faster into our 2nd tri now! .. ;D

Me too.. usually at the end of the day. Though it's less than in the first tri, but it's not gone totally

Me too, on the bump part... I like to feel the bump lol

Thanks for d feeback on ginger tea! been holding that off too. I still take salmon.. anyways I think the imp thing when taking sushi or sashimi is to male sure they r properly handled.. as long as its hygenic it shd be fine.. plus everythg in moderation.. I mean I doubt the japs could avoid their staple food during their pregnancy. =)

I should be around 15 weeks but I still feel queasy, no appetite and can't stand some of the food smell. Always feel like vomitting and sometimes did vomit. Also feel very lethargic. I wonder when will I feel "normal" again. Hopefully not till end of my pregnancy. Crossing my fingers.
