(2006/08) AUGUST 2006 MTB

piyo: i had the massage when i was in my 6th and 7th mth. each massage was 1 hr long, the RV branch is on the dot, exactly 1 hr. u can choose either the normal herbal oil or baby oil....the herbal oil had a very strong coconut smell which i couldn't take it, so i choose the baby oil at my 2nd session.

i can't remember the massuer's name at RV, but i remember the lady was quite big size, and she's very good, really thorough with her massage, working all the knots out, especially the shoulders area for me.

The Devonshire branch was really lousy, she took shortcuts and didn't bother to massage all the places, like the inner thighs or the hip area.

What I can't stand was that the Devonshire branch kept changing my appt timing, and then made me wait longer at the reception with the whole bunch of them chit chatting away infront of all the customers...really not professional.

Hi Rain,
Congrat, that's mean yr baby will be out soon
happy.gif
. Did yr gynea do any VE scan for you?

Peddie,

Nothing to be more stressed up about. If you don't tell them, you're just running away. The stresses will not surface yet but they will eventually build up and explode in your face. So be glad you did what you did.
happy.gif

Pain management, you can still request for epidural if you can't take the pain. Probably during your mom's time, epidural usage for delivery is not common? C-section wound takes some time to heal. Most people it seems, would rather go for natural than C-section because of that. My friends who had C-section for their first hoped and prayed that they can have natural for their second. With natural, we can be up and about almost immediately after giving birth.

Say, if your bf's parents are ok with you staying over, how comfortable are you with them? How comfortable and supportive are they with you, given that your situation is a little tricky? And since your mom is asking you to stay with her, I'd honestly opt for that choice. :p

I understand your mom's situation. Having to take care of a down's syndrome child is not easy, and another baby will just put additional stresses on her and I honestly don't know how she'd cope without additional help, like a foreign domestic worker. Honestly, unless our parents are in good health and free from other duties (work, or taking care of our sibling's children), we shouldn't be expecting them to look after our kids for us. For those who has the support of parents or in-laws, they are richly blessed.

As for ROM, honestly, if you truly truly feel that he is the one for you, and you feel that he's feeling that way too, and truly he is feeling that way too, then that's fine. Don't let the child be the reason to get married. In many situations as such, couples are better off not getting married. In your case, it's more than just about getting married... there is the other thing about converting to his religion. Tell me your religion is not something you hold dear to??? I would imagine that, like most young teens, you'd have participated in a whole suite of spirit filled activities, including mentoring the younger ones, facilitating and sharing with them the faith (conf4 '05). Pray about it and you may also want to seek spiritual guidance through the relevant people.

In everything, we must always go in with our eyes open and be realistic and understand that this and that things may happen. If we so decide to still go into it despite the odds, instead of choosing the alternative path, and eventually, things don't work out, know that this is the decision we have made, don't regret and kick ourselves. So do go in with your eyes open. You remain in my prayers...

Hi ladies..

Just came back from my Wk37 checkup. BB weight now is 2.5kg.. Yeah! She gained 0.5kg in 2 weeks... Head engaged now...
Told My doc abt my crampness these few days. He say is ok... Just watch out for three things - water, blood and contraction will do...
Wondering when my ger will be out. Everything is ready now. I hope she can come out by next week...<!-/quote-!>

kao_clap.gif
Wow Rain,
You must be really excited!
Yeah ... Hee, can't wait to see your princess soon.

Hi Peddie,
I agree with Leia.

We believe that you want the best for your baby.
Will getting married (a matter of signing papers) help?
kao_sad2.gif

Raising a child is a life time affair & no mean feat.
Do be open to other options (a lot of which mummies here in the forum had shared the helplines).

kao_smile2.gif
Sometimes truth hurts, but it sets you free.

As for the aching back, try doing a back rub or place a warm pack/tumbler to ease the pain aye?

Hi Peddie
happy.gif

C-section would cost more than natural birth.

You may like to ask the nurses or your obgyn abt the breakdown of delivery charges during your next appt so you'll be better prepared.

I still find it cheaper to have a natural with epi.

For c-section, you may choose to be administered wif general anaesthesia (right spelling??) or epidural. For ga, you are totally knocked out but epi, you are awake but won't feel the pain too.

peddie,
by the way KKH don't encourage c-section if you could natural birth. Only private hospital they allow you to op for c-section.
KKH they will only c-sec for you if your baby is not turn down, or emergency cases.

and private hosp c-sec will cost you $3-5k

Hi,

hi leia
u're welcome
happy.gif

hi peddie
i don mean to sound like a nag, but have u gotten in touch with the social worker at KKH? your mom must have a lot going on for her, n i think having a social worker attached to your family and you will benefit not just you, but your mom as well.
we can give you all the help online we can, but i still firmly believe having a social worker with you and your family is the best option.

me praying for you, hope that God will give you the strength and guidance you need in your life right now.

Hi Wanli,

No. my gynae did not do VE scan for me. Just tell me he see in in 1 week time. VE scna is to check if you have dilation is it?

Hi Cecilia,
Although she is ready now but dunno whether she wanna come out anot... Got a feeling that she dun wanna come out so soon. :-(

Hi Noe,
me getting more and more impatience already. :p
But some one told me that once she come out, you will want to tuck it back again.. kekeke

Hi Wanli,
I got a feeling u going to pop real soon
happy.gif
My nxt appt is nxt fri as all her nxt sat appt were taken up. Dr wong told me today that she stays 5mins away from TMC. So if she is in spore, should be no problem.
I also have problem sleeping, wake up frequently and hard to get to sleep.

Hi mommies
happy.gif

Been having tightening and pelvic pains since last nite. But no show yet so I'm still up and about.

My toddler is so clingy tonite, made me carry her before she dozed off...cialak man....tummy tight, what more a toddler in tow, felt like bursting just now...
uhoh.gif

For those whose obgyn is delivering your baby, it'll be wise to ask for their h/p or pager no. cos at least we can contact him/her once we are on our way to hospital.

If we wait for nurses to page them, might add to our waiting time especially if we are already quite dilated.

One more thing...do bring a sweater to put on in delivery suite cos we'll only be wearing those white operating gowns (very thin cotton material and held together with strings).

Have everyone packed their bags yet?

Here's what I'm bringing (KKH), those at TMC may have to bring own gowns.

1. Sweater
2. Socks
3. Sanitary napkins (with adhesive)
4. Disposable panties
5. Toiletries
6. Towel
7. A change of clothes for baby to go home in
8. Antenatal booklet and pre-admission papers
9. I/C and marriage certificate for registering
birth
10.Wet tissue-travel pack
(in case baby spills up milk on the way home)
11.Tummy binder
(can buy from pharmacy after delivery so size
would be more accurate)
12. Baby sling/hooded blanket to carry baby

And of course.....cash to travel to hospital and back. No cash...die mannnnn....
crazy.gif

Hi Dino,
I'm still at home
happy.gif
, so tired of playing this waiting game with my baby. Although I'm still quite scare of the delivery process but still hope the water bag burst, so that can deliver soon.
Yr appt on friday ah, then may be you can meet chrys at the clinic
happy.gif
.

Hi nurbates,
Is that when we admit to the hospital will need to change to hospital gown? So is that mean when we admit to hospital wearing pant also no problem right?

Hi Rain
Do more squatting help for dilation. Although I have dilated 1.5cm but already 1 week baby still very comfortable staying inside :p.

Peddie,

Just out of curiosity, how long have you known your bf?

Maybe for coming appt at KKH, you can ask the gynae about epidural and c-section.

All the best to you!
happy.gif

Catherine, yes in KKH we'll be asked to change into the pink hospital gowns whilst in wards, when we are ready for delivery, the nurses would get us to change in white operating gowns.

Wanli, yup! I don't think it'll be a problem to arrive in KKH wearing pants.

Just a little more extra info for those in KKH, if you're in B1 ward and above....no need to bring toiletries cos they'll provide you wif a bag of it (unless there's any change in practices tt I know not of). Just bring your bath towel and sweater.

Yeah, our sleep is first to go!

<!-quote-!>quote:

kkh we don't need to bring our own clothes?<!-/quote-!>

Hi Cat,
Do you mean after delivery?
KKH provides nursing gowns which we will change into after they clean us up at the delivery suite.
kao_sticktongue.gif
I stained the hospital gowns both times I was there.
I will be delivering at Mt A this time round and I understand that I have to wear my own clothes after delivery.
Not looking forward to stain my own clothes leh ... Especially, I don't get to wash my clothes immediately & the stain will most likely set in.
kao_sad2.gif

nurbates & noe,
yah, i tot kkh same as mt A must bring own clothes to where while staying there after delivery.
since they provide use then i don't have to worry bout bringing own clothes there the most i prepare the clothes to wear home.

peddie,
theres always pain during giving birth no matter c-section, natural, with or without epidural.
theres no such thing as giving birth without pain.
this you got to be well prepare, when you are well prepare the pain to you is all worthwhile.

Peddie and the rest who are sceptical of epi's side-effects..here's my take on the issue...haaa...haaa...I not spokesperson for epi deh, just sharing what I did to counter the side effectslah....heeee...heee...

Tips:

1. When epi is being administered;
Get a pillow, hug it and bend over forwards.
Ask hubby or midwife on duty to press your
shoulders down
Reason: To prevent yourself from jerking. If
our body jerk whilst needle is inserted,
might risk needle being wrongly inserted
hence..the spinal headache.

2. Once epi is administered. Make sure tt
midwife/anaethesist (right spelling) is
around while you assess epi's effectiveness.
Should not feel any pain anymore. If not ask
them to tilt your body on one side to let the
drugs flow well.

3. If you shiver like me (my teeth were
pratically chattering!!), get hubby to cover
you with a thick sweater. Blankets provided
normally are very the "holey" heee...hee...so
quite uselesslah unless we ask for two or
three blankets.

4. Hydrate yourself by munching on ice or
slurping plain water. Get midwife to provide
you wif these. Hey! We're payign for their
service mannn....

5. When it's time to deliver, ask midwife to
help with epi level so we can push but still
go pain-free.

6. I was totally nauseated after birth and kept
vomitting cos of the drugs. Ask midwife or
hubby to swipe up your back. This helps the
drugs to get out of your body..of course
we'll vomit it outlah...

7. Backache: every delivery normally sure get
backache..cos of the pushing..
Make sure you rest well, if breastfeeding,
can ask nurses to feed baby wif formula first
until we have complete rest, say after we've
taken a nap/sleep well then can take over
feeding. I slept (on my left) after I gave
birth, wif a pillow supporting my aching back.
Breastfed my baby the next day, after I woke
up AFRESH!!!

Remember to take care of ourselves first cos if not it'll be HELL to take care of our newborns...who really poops, cries, spills up milk, pee and drinks if they are not taking their two hourly short nap.

GOOD LUCK!!! Hee.....heee....

Hi, Peddie

I am opting for c-section & i had asked my gynae what method is he going to use? so he told me he is using c-section with half GA( which means that i will be fully aware of the whole operation & that my husband is also allow to go into the operation room with me) But i am not too sure what the difference bet half GA & epidural? maybe different drug is used & the way they inject the drug. Gynae told me that by using half GA, it is less painful than having full GA.

Hope that helps u!

Hi mummies,
I went to see gynae last sat. I may end up delivering early as my baby may not be growing that well in my womb
sad.gif
She is about 1.7kg at 34weeks. Gynae mentioned that he may consider taking out the baby before 38 weeks via csec if baby continues not to grow much inside my tummy after next visit. He would rather baby come out and absorb nutrition from outside instead
sad.gif
For now need to monitor baby movements and see him in 2 weeks time. I have a haunch I would deliver by national day week latest
sad.gif
I am really worried about baby's growth and actually am not prepared to deliver so much earlier and going thru Csec instead of natural...
sad.gif

Hi, *Piyo*

I also went to see my gynae last sat... & got a scare as when my gynae measured my baby for the 1st time, he told me that my baby weight is 2.3kg but i told him that during my previous visit, my baby's weight is also 2.3kg. then he measured it the 2nd time & confirmed that baby's weight is 2.6kg. knowing that I was scared, he put me on CTG to monitor baby heartbeat & everything is normal.... but had noticed that my baby did not gain much weights.. only gained abt 300g for 2 weeks where i gained a total of 3kg plus...

quite worry too
sad.gif

jesline,
don't worry your baby is ok as long as baby weight gaining no matter how much still save. by the time your baby should weight ard 3kg when giving birth the weight is just nice..

piyo,
don't worry k you baby wil be fine maybe your baby just small build in size?

Do we need to bring receiving blanket? or will hospital provide? TMC got provide?<!-/quote-!>

kao_sticktongue.gif
Hi Celine,
I know that KKH definitely does not provide receiving blanket!
I know TMC does but is the new receiving blanket wrapped up & unwashed?
We need to wash the receiving blanket befor use right?
kao_confused2.gif

Hi cat and jesline,
When we saw the baby at 32 weeks then, baby was 31 weeks gestional age. Then we saw her last week at 34 weeks, she is still at 31 weeks lei meaning not much growth lei while I put on 1plus kg within these 2 weeks. I am worried by 36 weeks visit, she is still at 31 weeks age or still lagging behind alot? In that event, I am also wondering would her lungs and all be developed if we take her out even at 37 weeks?

Hi *piyo*

maybe u can request to see your gynae more often to check how is your baby growing.... actually i am also quite worry so i always bring forward my appointment with my gynae to every 2 weeks or whenever i feel alittle unwell, i will make a trip to see my gynae as i had a previous miscarriage abt 1.5 yrs ago when my baby is abt 30th weeks...

my next appointment with my gynae is in 10 days times. maybe u should eat more nutritious meal... eat more fish, vegetables, milk

Hi Piyo,
It must be worrisome to hear this piece of update from your GY.
Delivery after 36 weeks of gestation is generally considered safe.
What will you be seeing your GY again?
kao_smile2.gif
Hopefully baby will put on more weight by then?

<!-quote-!>quote:

noe wats receiving blanket for?<!-/quote-!>

Hi Cat,
It's a blanket we use to swaddle our newborn.
Most of them now come with a hood.
kao_smile2.gif
You most likely have seen them or have them already.

Hi Piyo,
The doc himself have to make sure the bb's major organ is developing well before he get him/her out.
Mine case worst, as am losing weight (becos of diabetes diet) my bb's increase .... Consult doc at 31 wks but bb's weight 34wks. kind putting my endocrinologist on the worried part.

Hi *piyo*,

Don't worry too much. Such things happen. My friend had the same experience. She had an early delivery as advised by her gynae. And after the baby is out, he ballooned so fast and now he's one healthy, fiesty boy!
happy.gif

hi nurbates,
thanks for the information. guess i'll try to deliver without epi then. really scared of the vomitting. had a terrible 1st trimester and half of 2nd trimester due to morning sickness.

hi piyo,
don't worry too much. remember i had the same worry when doc told me my bb is not growing as well as expected. try to take more protein food and milk. I'm still taking enfamama though i only take 1 scoop of the milk powder than the 3 scoops that were recommended. can also get ur gynae to give u jabs to strengthen ur baby's lungs if u r still worried. will pray for u n bb.

Hi piyo,
Dun worry too much ya gal..i am sure yr doc knows the best for yr bb and if she mention that she would wan u to deliver earlier, then shld be ok..She will give u a jab to strongthen bb lungs. Like wat leia said, after yr bb is out, can always put on more weight after that..dun worry...bb b ok...if u r concern, then maybe u can see yr doc more often to monitor...
happy.gif
Hugs for u gal...take gd care n eat nuritious meals..

Hi Jesline,
Yr bb weight is 2.6kg at wat weeks? I juz went to see my doc on sat as well and at my 34wks n 3days, my bb is 2.3kg...so yr bb shld be of a good weight..i also lost weight actually, abt 1kg but bb gain 300g in 1wk...doc shld according to the chart, bb weight is ok..abt medium size...
happy.gif
So dun worry..as lonf as doc say it is ok, it be fine..

Btw, do u mummies suffer a lost of appetite now? I dun feel like eating this past 1 wk and dun reali get hungry nowadays..like got no appetite...My doc say it is normal for 3rd tri but i seems to find that a lot of my friends still eat quite a bit..now i have to force myself to eat proper food still for the sake of my bb even if i do not feel like eating...
sad.gif

hi piyo

don worry too much oki. im sure u r in good hands with your doc. can fatten baby up after doc delivers u.

take care, and always praying for all us delivering gals
happy.gif

Piyo,

I know how u feel but dun worry too much.. maybe ur bb is of the small size group? One of my gf was only 2.1kg when she's born but she's now very big size leh.. I gained almost 20kg and my bb's still under small size category.. sigh.. even not bo hua rite.. and do remember tat the measurement of bb's weight is only an estimation with high percentage of uncertainty. Dun worry too much k.. we r almost there..
happy.gif

Dino,
what time is ur appt on tis friday?
happy.gif

i do squatting everyday and walk alot now at least half an hour to more than an hr a day, even walk at east coast park, shopping mall, but i have a feeling my bb's not engaged yet still.. even though i feel the pelvis pain greater but when i press my pelvis area near lower tummy, it still feels soft soft. Dr Wong said it should feel hard at both side of lower tummy if bb's engaged and will feel half bb's head only as half of it has gone inside the bottom. I have a feeling tat i might need to go for c-sec later which i dun wish to..
sad.gif

hi gals,
is it true that if the swelling subsides for 3 times, then abt to give birth? my swollen feet just seem to be back to normal size for the 1st time. not sure if it's due to the rest over the weekend.

hi jesline,
i also change my appt to 1 wk earlier (wk 36) this time cos i'm quite insecure.
happy.gif
dunno if see gynae at wk 37 is too late.

hi augbaby,
my appetite also decrease. can't eat a lot at 1 go but gets hungry quite fast. so now, i take snacks at regular intervals.
happy.gif

Hi, Augbaby

my baby is 2.6kg at 35th week.... i have been getting more & more hungry easily even straight after a meal....

my gynae told me that baby is ok.... hope that baby will gain more weights during my next visit....
