We explored the archives of celebrity pregnancies and emerged with tons of inspiration. Here are 13 maternity photoshoot ideas that’ll turn yours from ordinary to picture perfect.

1. Be a Goddess in a Garden of Eden

Who could forget the day this Beyoncé photoshoot made its appearance on the interwebs? Sitting atop an intricate floral backdrop, resplendent in full bloom of her pregnancy, Queen B’s took our breaths away. A year later, Cardi B followed suit. Surrounded by lush bouquets, she was very much the ruler of her floral empire. Here in our garden city, local celebrity Cheryl Wee recreated her very own version which we love! Fancy doing the same? We hear that the people at Pixioo Photography can help.

2. Get Naked

The nude maternity photoshoot has long been the staple of the Hollywood elite. And for good reason! The female body is amazing – and deserves to revered, especially when it’s carrying life. Can you recall when Demi Moore graced the covers of Vanity Fair with her baby bump? Considered “risqué” for 1991, she set a trend that’s not abated. Recently, eldest Kardashian sister Kourtney was on the cover of Dujour magazine. And who can forget Serena Williams’ gorgeous pregnancy cover? The athlete looks equally stunning in her maternity shoot, also for Vanity Fair.

3. Be an Underwater Nymph

There’s something so fascinating about underwater shots. How does the photographer get such a precise picture right? Why does the woman look like a mermaid goddess? The most famous of the underwater maternity photoshoot has to be Alanis Morisette’s (see above). Looking strikingly beautiful as an underwater nymph, her picture is still the go-to for anyone look to emulate it. We think our very own Yoga Movement founder Alicia Pan looks just as ravishing in her underwater maternity shoot, doesn’t she? Grab your best buddy and contact photographer Vanessa Clementson to give it a go.

4. Flaunt your Earth Mama vibes

Some of us just love to be connected with Mother Earth. There’s something peaceful and calming about surrounding yourself with nature. It’s no surprise this maternity photoshoot idea continues to be popular! We love Heidi Montag’s take on the outdoors. Lying on a tree surrounded by lush, dense forest – she truly embodies the Yogi Earth Mama vibe.

5. Channel your inner Greek Goddess

Ah, the Greek Goddesses. There’s never been a trope of elegance that’s lasted so long in human history. And if you think about it, when do you truly feel like a goddess? When you’re carrying out the miracle of life! Kelly Rowland’s flowing satin looks ethereal. Glowing skin against the silky fabric, she truly looks like a work of art. Alessandra Ambroiso’s maternity shoot for a jewellery brand is also a sight to behold. The curtains soften up her silhouette, making her look more than mortal.

6. Blow Me a Kiss

There’s also room for more playful, fun maternity photoshoots! There’s something intimate and loving about a Dad-to-be placing a kiss on his wife’s pregnant belly, and we adore this one of Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake.

7. Slap on some Belly Paint

Do you have anything to tell your child? Or just want to let the world know that they’re arriving? Continuing on with playful maternity photoshoots, writing on the belly has stuck around for a long time! Local influencer Naomi Neo also chose this idea as a way to reveal the gender of her baby. You can play it up or down however you want – be creative! Be it at home surrounded by family and friends, surrounded by foliage at Botanic Gardens, or even on the beach at Sentosa. The options are endless!

Okay, who doesn’t love a great bathtub maternity photoshoot? It’s magic. Be it a milk bath, or one where you’re surrounded by flowers, the options are endless! There’s definitely a way to customise it to showcase your personality. We especially love Meghan Edmonds’ example of a bathtub maternity photoshoot. The glitter just adds that extra oomph for the picture perfect moment. Local songbird Tay Ke Wei captured the ethereal essence of the maternity milk bath, too! Looking like an angel in white, this mum definitely gave international celebrities a run for their money.

9. Sister Sister

Is your sister, cousin, or a close girlfriend expecting at the same time? Why not rope them in for some pictures together! Experiencing pregnancy together is a wonderful thing, and it’s definitely worth documenting. Kardashian/Jenner sisters Khloe and Kylie got together for a joint maternity photoshoot! In simple crop tops, it’s double trouble in this monochrome shot. World-famous supermodel Bar Refaeli also roped in a friend for some cute pictures together!

10. You’re Getting a Sibling!

Does your little one have an older sibling? Then they should be part of the shoot, too! There are few things more adorable than pictures of Bub saying “hi” to his or her sibling on the way. Pop icons Pink! and Hilary Duff both had maternity photoshoots that incorporated their older children. How cute are these? We’re overwhelmed! No kids yet? Don’t worry! Your fur kids also make adorable siblings! Tammy Tay, founder of the popular Oh So Fickle blogshop, looks radiant next to her adorable puppy.

11. Royalty Royalty Royalty

That’s right, Mum is the Queen of the household. When else should you treat yourself like the royalty you are than when you’re carrying a child? We’re all for donning gold robes, wearing a tiara, and waving to your subordinates – we mean – family! Angela Simmons and Blac Chyna both took on this idea for their maternity photoshoots, and we love it! While not overstated, the subtle elegance of royalty just shines through their pictures. Well, we might not have married a Prince, but we can still be Queens. Right?

12. Denim

If you fancy yourself more of a tomboy, or a “rough and tumble” kind of a girl, then this idea is for you. Florals may be too girly, and tiaras too fancy, am I right? How about doing it in denim? We’re serious! A newer trend, more celebrities have taken to doing maternity photoshoots in their good ol’ jeans. We’re talking Ciara with her stunning light-wash. Or Chanel Iman with husband Sterling Shepard in their couple denim photoshoot!

13. Costumes

Source

Are normal clothes too typical for your maternity photoshoot? You’d rather stand out from the crowd? Then why not try some costumes! Queen Beyoncé did an African-themed maternity photoshoot, full with costumes and ethnic wear. Maybe showcase your ethnicity or hometown culture through your dressing! If you want to go the more comical route, then Jessica Simpson’s Mummy costume (get it?) is hilarious. The ideas are truly endless with this one, so have fun!

Maternity photoshoots often mark a special time in our lives. Be it if you’re welcoming your first child, or your sixth, every pregnancy is special in its own way. You’ll be glad you have a picture perfect memory of that moment to look at in the future. At a loss for what to do during your shoot? We hope our 13 unique ideas (inspired by Hollywood!) have given you more than enough inspiration to create your own. You’re beautiful, Queen, show it!
