Hi, any mummies got recommendation for curtain dry cleaning services? Those dat will come and take down curtain and also deliver and install back a few days later.

Am also looking for once off house cleaning services. If got recommendation, do let me know. Thanks!!

Mummy_Mummy (davian): I let my DD try out My Little Genius (Upp Serangoon) last Friday and she was so blur, looked left and right at her classmates as if never seen children before. Haha. I think she felt more reassured knowing that I sat behind her. Anyway, I signed her up till end November (pocket hole big big!), this is to prepare her for her January pre-nursery.

Haha, ya, my boy also tried little genius a few mths back. Also like quite lost. But the class size v small. I went je one. End up din sign up cos I signed Julial Gabriel. Now thinking whether to try others.

Hi Fitti,

can you share more about your child's lesson with My Little Genius with me as i am also on the lookout for enrichment lesson for my daughter before i send her to childcare next year.

How many lessons you need to sign?
How much?
Did you sign her for Genius Playground?
How big is her class?
Is yours the one-hour class too?
What is the program about?
How was the environment?

Thank you for sharing =)
Jesline

Jeanie, dunno leh. Still thinking. He like not v into the class, and 2 hrs feels long. May try out the iGenius city square mall
.

hi, I'm back. Quite busy w my work. Finally got one night free now. My girl going for apple tree next yr. Quite worry. cuz she will be the youngest in class.

1xMummyJesline (valkyriegal): Last week was already lesson 6 for the current term so I signed for 6 more and then 8 lessons for the next term (until end November). Per term is 12 lessons.

Weekdays $620, weekends (I forgot liao. Sorry!)

There were 4 kids including my DD. The class limit is 6 kids i think.

1 hour 10 minutes will be the programme.

The lesson was rather intense, with flash cards (which totally left me o_O because the teacher was speaking so quickly and sometimes inconsistently and I rather they leave that out to be honest), activities, songs etc.

The environment within the centre is quite ok. DD seems comfortable.

To be very honest, I placed my daughter there because I want her to get used to having lessons with other children so she will not freak out in January. The teacher we had was really sweet and nice so I try not to think too much of her mispronouncing some words. Have to set priorities, ...to let my DD interact with kids and not really trying to make a genius out of her.

Hi Fitti,

Thanks for sharing!
Yup, this would be my priority as well to put her in a weekend class now.
I want her to get used to having classmates and getting used to having a 'teacher' system.

I found Faith to be unable to concentrate, distracted easily and I was afraid her activeness would make it difficult for teacher to handle her when i send Faith to childcare next year jan too.
Instead of the teacher to waste time to train her when she goes CC later, i want to get her ready now too. I think getting this into a habit can help.

I may go to their open house this weekend. I would be visiting their Hougang branch.

What else do they do besides flashcards during the 70 mins?

They do many different things during the session. Oh, i forgot to add that they use English one week and Mandarin the next. Today we went for the Mandarin one. My DD enjoyed it more (I guess it's because her nanny spoke to her in Mandarin). I like the teacher. She is Taiwanese so her Mandarin is fluent and easy to understand. Still, the flash card bit, I think can skip. Haha. :p

Mandarin lesson seems shorter though. It lasted less than an hour today.

GG Lee: I think it'e because the Mandarin teachers are all native speakers and the English teachers are locals? Locals very poor thing, I always say we are the confused lot, grew up learning British English, watch American TV and then speak Mandarin, dialects, Malay etc at home. That is why must give chance. The teacher is lovely otherwise. I rather have her than some angmohs.

Hi, Thanks Fitti for sharing.
My girl is also more fluent in chinese as my MIL speaks to her in chinese.
And hubby & I try to make it an effort to speak english to her.
I hope Hougang branch one will be as good. More important, if they can make us feel comfortable (with parting with our money!) haha
TGIF!! =)

Hey Jesline,
Pls let me know if the hougang branch is any good? I want to go for the open use. But my boy has not been well so can't.

Tx.

Hi ChengHS,
I have not been to the Jurong branch one so i cannot compare.
So, i going to just share based on our visit yesterday at the Hougang branch.
Their Hougang branch is a shophouse set up. Therefore I felt there was a bit of space constraint. There were about 4 small classroom set up.
We were introduced the concept that kid 0 -3 yrs old uses their right brain etc.
And that their program are specifically target for right brain activities. One good example is flashcards. Thats why they have a lot of flashcards in their activity. Even sing song, the teacher would also be flashing cards. And other activities includes memory games, training their fine motor skills, story telling.
Overall they were friendly and not pushy. So i was comfortable. But we did not commit due to the venue. Hubby prefers parkway.
I think if you live nearby, dun need open house can just email or call them to fix an appt for a visit.
Hope this helps =)

Ytd brought my boy to attend his lesson at shichida.... alamak after doing 2 activites run to the back of the class and tried to open the door.......haizzzzz. Tried to drag him back to his seat he made a greast fuzzzzzz.... Any advise?????Anyone experience whenever you bring your little one for playgroup he refuese to particpate at all???

Davian- dun be disappointed when my boy first join shichida class he will always roam round the room or go to the door wanting to leave the class. Now he is in the 2nd semester, more settled down.
During the 1st semester if he wants to leave his seat. I will carry him n walk to the centre back of the class at least he will still participate the lesson. Dun be discourage, after several lessons he will get use to it.

Mummy_Mummy,

It's normal! :p My boy still runs ard between the activities! Thus at times, I will actually to do the activties with him on the floor or he stands and I go through with him etc.
happy.gif

It's on and off and it happens to not only my boy in the class (but generally gals are more guai lah! haha)

During flash cards - if he is running ard, i will carry him and stand at the centre back of the class also.

so dun worry...

MTDT,

Sigh!!!! He is the only one behaving like that in class. lol.. Can tell he is not interested in the activities whenever the teacher do this kind of activities. U attending Shichida too??

Twinstars,
The problem is i got no problem with first term. He participated in all the activities... Very keen in subsequent activities. The moment he comes to his 2nd term completely changes.... Of course i know i change his timing...and this class is 2 term ahead of him...cos i use to attend wkday now wkend....

mummy mummy,
its ok, my girl is the only one that shout "NO" to the teacher haha.
During 1st term, she only get active at end of the class, 2nd term start to shout no, argg...

And another girl is the only one that love to sit on table.

same tr? another reason is not shy already, used to the classroom/tr/frens - so gets more monkey haha

Tks twinstars. Most of the mummies here go SM at TPY rather than spring leaf? Any one knows if there is any difference?

Hi mummies,

Can I join in? Its seems there are many mummies in this thread sending kids to SM class.
My boy will be joining Sat 1030am SM class in TPY starting Oct. He is born in Oct 2009 though. I am practising flashcard session with him everyday though as my elder gal is also in SM class.
Any mummies doing home learning too? Maybe we can exchange resources as i had a hard time doing so many flashcards..keke

Hi shanonbb, guess u must have found the sm classes useful to sign up ur no 2 as well. I am thinking of enrolling my boy but heard the wait list v long at tpy. Still thinking whether to continue JG.

Hi Shannonbaby,

My boy will be attending the 10.30am class in oct 11 too... Wonder whether will be the same class as u....

oh Shannonbaby sorry mine is sun class. Wow Shannonbaby u very on....i am so shameful.... i dun do much home practise with my boy!!!!!!! U ftwm? or Sahm?

Mtdt, huh, so same like GUG. Dat one I end up also like Bo wait. And I still see new pple join now and then. I heard sm v good for memory training so feel like trying out. GUG after 1 term like a bit bored.

Hi,

my boy used to go JG playnest. but has stopped already. Yup, i agree the waitlist abit unreal. I put my boy on waitlist in Jul, and they called in Aug to offer me my preferred timing Sat 1030am.

Mummy_mummy,
I am a ftwm. Usually i will do the home practise when they just woke up or before they sleep.

Hi shannobaby,

Wow your boy will sit still and watch u flashing the cards? Good lor ur boy.....my boy will come and scratch my card if not he will stand up and walk away........sigh!!!!!!!!! Anyone here enrol their kids for a year in SM already???

Mummies,
SM is suicide is it? Do they only do flashcard in class? Is it really good for kids?

Hi Yummy,

SM got lots of diff activities.... But sure everywk they will do flashcard, Linking memory, memory game, eye training, sawako So called their core activities... they also do plays song and does actvities that train fine motor skill//

Somedays, I wonder if it was a good idea to let DD attend lessons so early. Abit paiseh when she showed no interest at all and ended up staring at her drooling classmate/s or climbs up and down the chair. Sigh! Activity time, it would always be the mums or grandmas who did them. :p

My fren kid doesnt want to o to kindergarden anymore coz he is bored with school..hmm i guess depends a lot on kid character n school itself...but dun pressure them oo much lah..afterall they just graduated from babyhood

Our kiddos' big Two birthday is coming up, mummies! Can't believe my DD is turning 2 already. Such mixed feelings! :D
