How do you tell the difference between a child just being energetic vs. having a real attention difficulty? I don’t want to overreact.

Our 6-year-old is incredibly active. He’s always jumping, fidgeting, moving from one thing to another. He starts puzzles and abandons them halfway, can’t sit through a story and struggles to follow multi-step instructions. I know some kids are just more active, but part of me wonders if there is something else going on. My husband thinks I am overthinking it, but I am starting to see it affect his learning in class. If you have gone through this, what helped you figure it out? Also, if it was more than just being energetic, what worked?
 
Hello, I'm a psychologist. based on what you have described, there's a high risk for ADHD. whatever behaviours you have listed here are signs that we look for when we assess. go get him assessed by a registered psychologist. you can bring your child to a polyclinic and ask for a referral.
