tot i start a thread on above as i'm planning to start bringing my 2 year old son to visit dentist and get my teeth done at the same time. trying to find a child friendly (playing corner, toys, etc) yet reasonably priced dentist...feedback please (with details and pricing)!

I've got one:
GPA dental @ United Sq (they also have branches at Balmoral Plaza and Parkview - opp Raffles Hospital). But they are quite expensive! Cost as follows:
Adult - $50 consultation (first time payment only, need to pay if you visit again after 1 year) + $90 for cleaning
Child - $30 consultation + $60 cleaning

I would think this dental clinic you mentioned have pretty good rates in terms of consultation fee for children.
My friend brot her dd to one opp Tiong Bahru Plaza i think n they charge $50 for child consultation fee

Why don't u try the school dental clinic at Outram for your chd?
It's best that the dentist you go to specialises in paediatrics, as child dentistry is a specialised skill

Went to GPA Parkview. But our bill came up to $180! :jawdrop: Even though my son throughly enjoyed his visit, we never went back there again.

I have a very good dental surgeon to recommend. But be prepared to wait cos u probably have to wait at least 1 mth before u get an appt date. She's very nice, gentle and thorough. I am going to bring my girl to see her. I have been going to her for around 3 yrs already. For sat appt, the last time i ask, she's booked till next year already.

I'm sure many of us mums here wud like to know if your dental surgeon's rates are reasonable?

blessings!

Hi miracle bebe

i am very well... thanks.

I find Dr Lim's rates very reasonable. For myself (cos she's under our corporate a/c). But i have checked and for basic checkup, cleaning, scaling polishing is $50.

But from what i checked, for a kiddo say below 3, there's nothing much that she can do, except to check and advise if theres anything.

Hi, sorry for the late reply. Took me a while to find this thread again. I think I've thrown away the receipt but I know it includes full set X-ray, which my hubby now says he must have been conned into consenting.

Despite my misgivings about GPA, I brought my second son, 30 months, there today for his first visit.

My reasons:
1. I checked out 2 others: one at Camden Medical Centre and one at Paragon; they were about the same price.
2. My second child is a screamer...stopped screaming at the doctor's only at about 24 months.
3. My second child appears to have cavaties in his upper molars.

The total cost was $70+. $30 for consultation - just a check-up; and $40 for dental mousse - to stop the decay.

Working Mom, I just remembered more details of my elder son's visit (Sorry, it was so long ago). My hubby brought him there at 3 years old 'cos he fell and his gums bled. $180 was for full set x-ray, cleaning and polishing and consultation. His doctor was Dr. Cheong, a senior doctor.

Today's doctor was Dr. Adrian Ong, seems young. But, he tried his best - even changed into a brighter and more colourful dental uniform for my son. They have a monitor at the chair, showing Hi-5! (That's how we lured my son in), a small cubicle like waiting room with a few toys, sunglasses to reduce the glare from the lights.

Working Mum
I went to the one at Parkview Square (the awful brown gothic looking building) 'cos it's the most convenient from our place.

I've tentatively booked to go to SmilesWork @ paragon (recommended by 1 mommy) for my boy, myself and hubby (1 lady dentist)...hope they are good and reasonable....

Good luck!

Think the first visit is important.

After we brought our elder son to GPA, he had a favourable view of visiting dentists and was not afraid. His subsequent visits were to NTUC Denticare, which was much cheaper.

Hi,

I brought my gals to Raffles Denticare at Causeway Point. We went to see this lady, Dr Joyce Mary. She is only there on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. She is at other branches on other days. My younger gal went for a filling and the total bill came out to about $70+. Consultation is $30 and fillings start from $40. Not sure how much is the cleaning. Bought the tooth mousse for $30.

Find her very friendly and she will play with the kids first to distract them.

Wow. How old is your daughter? She's must be very brave to go through the filling. The mousse is $10 cheaper than GPA! That's 25% cheaper !

Just brought my 5 yrs old gal to Smile Inc at Forum Shopping Mall (specialise in Family & Child Dentist) 2 days ago.

Since this was d 1st dental visit, I won't mind paying more as I don't want my child to have phobia like i do n still does. Can see from her facial expression that she's very tense n scare. The dentist tried to calm her, let her press some buttons, on Hi-5 to further divert her attention. Whenever d dentist needs to do something, he'll explain n let her feel d equipment, wat sound it will make, get her mentally prepared. The overall experience is not as bad as i expect. But the "damage" for d initial oral examination, scaling, polishing n 2 sealant job on the bottom molar tooth already cost me $287.05 !

Major job is to be done today, ie a couple of small fillings & an extraction on d upper hind molars ! Besides buring an/r hole in my pocket, I'm also worried whether she can go thru d jab n extraction process. Sigh ......

Worst case would be to put her to sleep for awhile. Hopefully, she don't need to go thru that extend.

Hi Kira Ko,

My gal is only 2.5yo and she had a decay on one of her molar. Lucky she still manage to sit through and let the dentist dill up the cavity for her.

oh dear, 2.5 yo only and got decay already? sigh, that's why i also want to bring my 2.5 yo son to check..cos he always drinks milk before going to sleep. recently i've asked my helper to make him brush his teeth before sleeping, but this is not possible all the time esp when he is sleepy

oh, i called up SmilesWork and below their info:

Ma22
Extraction? Poor girl.
sad.gif
How is she now?

t_tottot
She's a very brave girl to go through filling. My next appointment is in October. The decay part is getting smaller, thanks to the mousse. Dunno whether filling will be required then.

Working mom
If he has tooth decay you can actually see brownish or blackish stains on the teeth, especially the molars.

Hi Kira,

Gosh I'm s.....o relieved that every thing's over. Phew !

During administering d local anesthesia, I kept talking n talking, diverting her attention on d Hi-5's Charlene, Kathleen, Tim etc etc. Wow nice pom-pom skirt, nice color, maybe we shd get 1 later ........ Ma-chiam like Ah Seow. So tired.

Gal did not complain abt any pain cos she was happily shopping at ToysRus. Showing her sis d decay tooth n telling me that d fairy tooth will give her a present. Ya, told her that " Mama will sms d fairy tooth n tell her wat present u want ok ". Hahahahahaha

Anyway, she did cry after d medicine wears off. Lucikly, I went in d late afternoon. Imagine, ur kid has to endure d pain d whole day.

Ma22
Hmmm...yah, good idea to go in the afternoon. Will take note. She's so brave...even I am slightly terrified of the needle! Hope she's fine now.

yes,i definitely agreed....

my son is 3 and have decaying front teeth.

which i brought him to d normal dentist few mths ago who advised dat i gotta spend 2-300 for extraction or risk infection which might cost more to remove next time.no other ways.

his teeth broke and im desparately looking for ways to salvage cos i dnt want him to look toothless for the next few yrs b4 his adult teeth kicks in(seems sad..

)

aft doing sme deaparate research i realised dat pedodontist might hv ways to help.so though ex but perhaps better solution, hope other parents can learn fr my experience.

Hi all,
just got a mummy PMed me on the pedodontist that I went to.

after posting here, I went to Smile Works at Paragon cos I think Camden one needs to wait for appt.

the dentist helped to patched my son's front teeth and got us to use a toothpaste like thing to rub on his teeth to keep the teeth strong.

so far, his teeth lasted till now but I guess its time for the next appt, pretty glad that it lasted so long but did spend quite a fair bit.overall was about $3-400+ cos patched front teeth and some others inside.

they had toys to distrct him too.overall was quite gd.

Anyone have any comments on NUH dental? I'm wondering if going private will be better than govt ones. The last time I brought my gal to National Dental Clinic they extracted 4 which I didn't it was necessary.

My boy recently had a fall resulting his front tooth to shift in. I bought him to kk n took a xray. Dentist said that he got an infection. N he needs to either extract his tooth or do a root canal. Hes only 2.5 yrs . Any one experience similar situation? Duno should I get a 2nd opinion? Cos I feel that they don't really knows how to handle kids. My son was not cooperative during the xray and they actually gave up after 1st try. I managed to get my son to listen to me n I told the dentist to try one more time .

Hi dollieger,

I started seeing this dentist dr phoon wai leng last yr.. She's really nice, gentle and patient.. Will spend time to really explain the condition.. Seems like she's very experienced with children too.. Maybe can consider her if you are looking for a 2nd opinion.. Can call up to enquire..

hi mommies,
I've been visiting Smileworks (and also their sub branch Dental Care@Fajar) for a few years now. I have an extremely low threshold for pain and i am really scared of dentist cos of bad experience when young.

If you are looking for a gentle dentist, i strongly recommend Dr Lam. she is based in Smileworks but sometimes she will be at Dentalcare @fajar. She is really gentle and patient. I understand that she deals mostly with kids.

I just remove my horizontal wisdom tooth at GPA dental.
Swelling for a wks and bruise.
The surgery cutting was so long....across 3 tooth.
I will not go bck again.

Since I still have one more horizontal wisdom tooth to remove.
I plan to go to Khoo teck puat hospital.
Any other dentist to recommend.
I very scared to remove wisdom tooth nw..

There r paediatric dentist ard n there r normal dentist which does sees children who r able to cooperate. For toddlers, u would probably want to bring to a PD dentist or School Dental Centre at HPB. Call to make an appt as waiting time is ard 3 mths.

why dont bring to polyclinic ?
for both kids and adults and the charges are very reasonable esp if you are just looking for cleaning and polishing and not complicated stuffs
