Aspirin dosage for preeclampsia high risk

Hi Mummies, I am at 14w now, recently diagnosed as high risk preeclampsia and need to take aspirin to reduce the risk. I have consulted two doctors on my case, one giving suggestion of 100mg/day dosage of aspirin and another giving 150mg/day. Wondering if any mummies have similar experience and what's the dosage taken? Thanks a lot!!!!!!

I’m in a similar situation! Just started on 150 mg aspirin every night based on my private gynae recommendation. But I will be going to see another gynae (who is more experienced with high risk pregnancy) based in public hospital for second opinion. Based on the different studies for aspirin use to prevent pre-eclampsia and different guidelines, seems like there is a range of doses studied and used (from 75 to 162 mg) so probably that’s why there are different recommendations. In the United States they use 81 mg (1 tablet) or 121.5 mg (1.5 tablet) because the aspirin available there is 81 mg per tablet. In Singapore we have 100 mg per tablet.

Think there is no evidence currently on whether 150 mg is better than 100 mg dosing in terms of preventing preeclampsia and/or less risk of bleeding, but the general opinion is both are effective and reasonable doses. I will probably follow the dosing recommended by whichever gynae that I eventually intend on following up with for the rest of my pregnancy, be it 100 mg or 150 mg.

Thanks @jlwh92 for the reply, and really appreciate you sharing your situation and research!

Just posted here for my updated situation, I have visited another two gynaes today for second opinions (so in total I have consulted 4, 1 is my current private gynae, another 2 are private gynae specialised in high risk pregnancy, last one is based in public hospital with very good reputation and experience). Other than my current gynae who recommends 100mg, the rest 3 all suggest 150mg (with two saying 100mg is not enough, 150mg is the correct dosage).

So I have decided to increase dosage to 150mg from tonight, and plan to switch gynae as well, but have not made up my mind on which one yet.

@BusyBeeEve Will share after I’ve seen this gynae and if the consult went well!

@slinda1992 No prob! Just sharing what I read from a credible source (UpToDate) used by healthcare professionals, as I also previously worked as a healthcare professional and used that source for work. All the best in deciding on a gynae that you’re happy with and trust

Thanks for sharing @jlwh92 . I’m seeing one at structured hospital and also private gyne.

Decided to go with Dr Devendra at SGH in the end. He’s part of the high risk pregnancy clinic team so I feel more comfortable as he has previously handled a number of patients with similar medical condition as I have.
