Hi all, I am 34 this year and my hubby the same. My hubby is a diabetic patient (his diabetic under control). We are having a baby under IVF and I am currently at my 13th week, just went for OSCAR Test and the result was1:387 for trisomy 21 and my bb nasal bone thickness is 2.5mm. My gynae ask us to consider doing Harmony Test even though our result is normal. If you were me, will you still go and do Harmony Test?
Thank you.

I just finished my Harmony test, now must wait for 2 weeks time to get results. I am 40, so doctor suggest me skip OSCAR and just do Harmony test. He said Harmony test is the most accurate test. The Harmony Test cost me $1300.

In my opinion, no harm to go for harmony test.

The harmony test will also can find out baby's gender.

Hi all,

Sorry I am a first time mum, so just want to ask.. for OSCAR it comprises of both a detailed scan and a blood test. For Harmony is only blood test, there will be no detailed scan?

yes no detailed scan . that is why some gynae want to do both

I am thinking of Harmony Test and forgo OSCAR since Harmony is more accurate.. but it would mean no scan.. then cannot see my baby.. if do both will be too expensive.. haiz...

Hi MTB2015,
May I know where you did the harmony test?
$1300 sounds like a better deal compared to the $1500 our gynae quoted us.
I'm quite puzzled on why there's such a great difference in price as NUH quoted me only $900 (including GST) for the Harmony test.
Even with the first consultation fees ($90+ to $130+), it's still cheaper by quite a bit.

Hi icyjol, I have also opt for harmony test instead of oscar.
The scan you are referring to, is it detailed scan?
If detailed scan, gynae will still tell you to do, detailed scan is done between 18-22weeks and it is different from harmony test. I just did my detailed scan at Thomson, and it is not that expensive only around $160.

Hi Marvelous,

Thanks! I didn't know there is another detailed scan ard 5mths.. so during your first trimester you did not do any detail scan to check the NT and baby movement, only Harmony Test? The first detailed scan was the one ard 18-22 weeks?

Hi adelinejo

Since NUH quote $900 thus whats the reason you are not doing in NUH?

I tried to book my harmony in NUH but the doctors said since my gynae is not in NUH thus they cannot accept my booking.

Hi icyjol,
Yes, first detailed scan is done between 18-22 weeks.
Before that, gynae check baby through ultrasound during each visit.

I called NUH's Women's Clinic and was told we can't do a "walk-in" and book the Harmony test, the test has to be ordered by one of their gynaes/specialists (consultation fee for first visit range between $90+ to $130+). i.e. we need to pay for consultation, request/pay for the Harmony test, then pay consultation again to get the results.
Suppose each visit (consultation plus ultrasound scan) costs an average of $250, then the whole "test" process adds up to about $1400 ($250+$900+$250)... almost square one.

IMO, going through all that hassle to save just $100 and risking the "goodwill" with our gynae isn't worth it.
I'ld rather ask him to elaborate on why his Harmony test is charging that premium, hopefully it includes more than just the blood test for the 3 trisomy.
btw, we are currently seeing Dr Tho of Astra, went to him after reading many good reviews about him online.

Hi Adelinejo, I did my test at TMC Dr. SF Loh.

hi
im 33 this yr. my gynae asking me to do a oscar test. i have heard oscar test not so accurate. do u think i shld do oscar or harmony test?

I have a friend who gave birth last year she did a oscar test because the scan shows her baby got flat nose and could be sign of down syndrome so she did the test an (Oscar test) and came back 60% her baby might have Down Syndrome so u can imagine how she felt during that time and even her sister ask her to do another test (Harmony Test) and was advice that maybe she can abort the baby ..well luckily she did not because when baby was born healthy and no sign of Down Syndrome.I am currently on my 35 weeks of pregnancy and i did not do that test coz may not accurate and it will just cause you some worries your entire pregnancy which is not healthy for both mommy and baby, pregnancy is something we must enjoy and not to cause us worries:)

It depends on if you intend to keep the baby should there be any abnormalities.
If you do not intend to keep baby should there be abnormalities, then do the tests.
Otherwise, no point to spent the money to do the tests and stressed over the results.
