Dr Lawrence Ang @ Sun Plaza

hi nez,
normally no 'news'(call) means gd news. Ur oscar results shld be normal/fine. If u're worries, no harm calling up to the clinic & ask =)

Hi Mdl

Thank u so much! Think I'll call them early afternoon tmr to ask...hee...feel better to know the result
happy.gif

hi nez,
Mdl is rite... Dr Ang told me tat if clinic din call tat means gd news. No need 2 worie. He will tell u e results in detailed when u see him nxt appmt.

Smetimes docs do make some mistakes here and there...and we hv 2 be knowledgeable abt pregnancy in case they 4got. misunderstanding do happen especially if we hv encountered problems and need gynae 2 help us. I guess maybe he's too experienced and too many patients under him so he reali will miss out alot of details. If pregnancy got any problem, perhaps go consult another younger gynae who aint so busy.

Scenario is juz like an older teacher and a younger teacher. Older teacher teaches same subj for so many yrs and got too used to it thus nt innovative enu as compared to a younger teacher.

My wife got chicken pox at the 20th week and we went to KKH (better equiped) as there is an isolation room and we follow up with Dr Han at KKH. We wanted a senior consultant due to our chicken pox situation. We were seeing Dr Lawrence Ang at sunplaza before the chicken pox but the only advice he gave us was not to go to his clinic during chickenpox and worst, he didn't even follow up or offer alternatives. He forgot this patient in need of help. Please don't go for the cheapo packages as you will not get good response during emergencies. Also, you will always pass by the X-ray room each visit. I am not sure how safe the X-ray machine athough low power? To be safe than to be sorry. Get a more responsible doctor. I think that he had too many patients and forgotten my wife having chicken pox.

Hi Jonathan

Hope your wife is better. Has she recovered from her chicken pox?
I had bad experience with the same gynae too.
I absolutely agree with you. It is always impt to find responsible gynae.

Does anyone know if Dr Ang still has his package? I heard that he no longer has the package but charges by per consultation? Is this true?

jgal
yes. refer to the same gynae.
i saw him few years ago when i was preg cos is near my place.
if i get preg now or sooner or next time, i will NOT see him

Hi, he is my gynae on my 2nd child, and i have a very bad experience on him..

i've got a heavy bleeding 14 days after pregnancy, this is wat they called Post Partum haemorrage..

And the worst is this is deadly..and till now 16months ago it's cause me so much Nervous breakdown, i've not enuff courage to take care of my kids..

However, ive set it aside now & hopefully i can forget it as the times goes by..

Pls choose a right gynae...

It is not a matter of money, it's a matter of lives... pls think carefully..

God bless!!!

Hi Ann,

so what did Dr Ang do for u after knowing u have heavy bleeding? when u say "after pregnancy" means after giving birth is it?

I just delivered with Dr Ang last month and found him to be a dr who knows what he is doing. Both my hubby and I feel that he is also very responsible and professional in his dealings with his patients and that we can trust him.

No doubt, he may seem to be in a bit of a rush, but he will answer our questions. Of course, if we don't ask, then I guess he presume we already know the answers and I think he is the type who will give just sufficient info unless we ask further.

There was once I suspected I had protein in my urine as there were bubbles. I highlighted it to him and he insisted I do a blood test just in case. Sometimes, there are symptoms which he may not be aware of unless we voice it out. Then I'm sure he will take further action from there.

As my baby was not really a straight forward delivery, I really appreciate him for exercising his good judgement and professionalism in assisting my delivery.

Also, after my delivery, I did not have much problems. Stitching was good, and I saw dr Ang one week after delivery to ensure everything in the womb is properly expelled out. He also follows up with a pap smear about 2 months later.

I think generally, if there is anything we require from the gynea, we need to take the initiative to ask. If not, just trust.

i had bad experience with dr ang too. i've switched to joycelyn wong from tmc and enjoy my gynae visits more now. i never enjoyed any of my visits with Dr ang as he's always rushing and gets irritated if i have alot of questions. he keeps mentioning he got alot of patients so he's busy. what kind of gynae is that.

go to dr ang if you are confident that your pregnancy is smooth sailing. but if you are more concerned abt your pregnancy, i advice you to find some other gynae cos Dr ang usually wont have the time to ASSURE you and eliminate your worries.

I agree with New Mommy. I had Dr Ang also. If he is no GOOD, then his clinic would not be so crowd already. Not because of the cheaper package, just purely that he is good. Sometime is the "Gan Cheong"ness that make one feels that he is not so good.

Like New Mommy had said. Unless you ask, else he really got no time to explain further. He usually just give you reading material when the time is right and if you got any further question then ask during the next visit.

I am also a person who bo chiap. So dr Ang suit me. He got no time to tell and Me too bo chiap to know till it is time.

I guess mummies who bother to search and read forum are seldom 'bo chiap'
happy.gif

Hence maybe Dr Ang's style doesn't suit some mummies here if you hope that he'll provide info or details.
So it boils down to one's expectation. Don't expect too much info, detail with Dr Ang.

aiyah, i think not everyone is perfect and the schedules too packed, then i guess they will be frustrated too. n sometimes some MTB too ignorant n wat also ask. cannot really push the blames to the doctor.

I would say Dr Ang provide sufficient and necessary info and will answer our questions if any. I find his checks / scans etc. all good enough for me. Maybe I'm the type who never ask him too many questions. Nowadays, antenatal classes, internet and books everywhere also got information. And I also think his package is cheap to make having a child more affordable, not that he really wants to attract more customers through cheap package? But then cheap, will have more pple, more pple, less time for each person, and so goes the viscious cycle. But he still perform his duty as good and responsible dr coz' I eventually delivered safely under him. Also need to give kudos to my epiduralist Dr Lim YC from TMC - me last min then decide to use..Thankfully he very zai too!

Think most important is to find the dr you can trust and relate to. Other than Dr Ang, I think there are also many good and responsible drs out there who cater to the various needs of various pple. And definitely, they would have their own niche / strengths / weaknesses too. Yup, in fact NO ONE is perfect (except God la huh hehe).

few weeks ago, went to the dentist outside of lawrence ang clinic, then i went to peek inside, dun seems to be crowded on a sat late morning

Did the patients go for their meals? That's what we used to do while waiting. Or was there a delivery scheduled? Otherwise, it is also good, then the wait will be shorter as I still got a post natal appointment with the dr and he will have more quality time to spare now.

Hello mummies,

Just kaypoing here.
My boy is 2.5 years old now and was delivered by Dr Ang. Just to share my experiences...

Visits
A lot of people at the clinic. I always have to wait an hour or so on weekday evenings. Sat early mornings or weekdays afternoons are good timings. Usually within half an hour can see him.
Consultations are quite standard. Scan. measure blood pressure etc. Usually upon reaching the next trimester, he'll explain a bit on what to expect. But for most visit, he will go through all the necessary motions and answer whatever question you may have. It's true that he will not volunteer much information. But then, I do not expect him to provide info without me having to ask.

A few weeks before EDD
Dr Ang was concerned that my blood pressure was low and wanted me to go for induction immediately cos my boy was not putting on weight for some time and he was worried that my boy was not thriving in the womb. I was swamped with a lot of work at that time and needed to settle a few things so I asked Dr Ang if I could delay the induction for a week. He said ok, but wanted me to go back to the clinic to do CTG (to monitor BB's heart rate) every alternate days.

during labour
I was to be induced, but as fate would have it, my water bag broke early in the morning before admitting into TMC for induction (supposed to check in at night). I went to see Dr Ang at his clinic and told him that water bag broke. He asked me if I was having contractions, I said not yet and then he hesitated a while and decided not to check my cervix for dilation as he was afraid of bringing infection (cos water bag already broke). He said it's up to me whether I want to check into TMC at that point since going there would just be waiting for full dilation. Me and HB decided to wait at home.

Contractions set in around noon and progressed quite fast. by 3pm, me and HB didn't know what to do and cannot decide whether to check in or not. So we went back to Dr. Ang's clinic and told the nurse that we wanted to see Dr Ang immediately cos I was having contractions about 5-10 mins apart. But I was made to wait like more than 30 mins before I can see him. I was quite unhappy about that. Anyway, when I finally got to see him, he checked for my dilation and I had show and he told us to go to TMC immediately. He then told his nurse that he needed to go and asked her to hold off all the appointments.
So me and HB rushed to TMC.

Now on the hindsight, I think me and HB were quite stupid, we should have just gone directly to TMC instead of going back to Dr Ang's clinic.

at TMC
I was admitted to labour ward immediately. My contractions are now like 3 - 5 mins apart and was already 8-9cm dilated. I kept telling the nurses that I need to push and Dr Ang was still nowhere in sight. It was quite drama, hahah, at least it felt dramatic to me. I kept thinking to myself whether my baby will come out before Dr Ang arrives, and the nurses kept reassuring me that they had called him several times and he was on his way. Just when I thought I cannot hold out anymore, Dr Ang burst into the labour ward.

during delivery
My pelvic size turned out to be smaller than expected and even though my boy is very small (2.4kg), I couldn't push him out even after pushing several times. Dr Ang did not suggest emergency C-sect. Instead he tried his best to use his hand, suction cup and forceps to get my boy out while monitoring my boy's condition at the same time. My HB told me that all through the process Dr Ang seemed very calm, confident and assured. And the process, though appears to me to last forever, only lasted 20 mins or so. Later when he's alone with me and sewing me up, he told me that my delivery was one of the hardest natural deliveries he has done for the year. And he told me that for my next pregnancy, whomever that I decided to go to, I should let the gynae know that if the baby is expected to be more than 3kg in size, I would have to go for C-sect.

General impression
Dr Ang is a very nice guy. Easy to talk to, patient during consultations and when I call him. He is always contactable off-office hours on his HP. He's more of an efficient gynae rather than those who will sit with you and give reassurances and information. I do find that he's a bit 'garang'. But then, I guess his 'garangness' does make him seemed like a skillful doctor during delivery. What I like about him is that he does not encourage C-sect & push for epidural (though he said it's up to mummies).
He even told me during post delivery checkup that there is no need to go to PDs for routine checkups if baby is doing fine generally. He said a good GP will do just as well!

I'm planning to TTC for 2nd one end of this year. I think I would still go back to him.

That said and having read some of the posts on the bad experiences with Dr Ang. I would say that he is not PERFECT. Whether he is good enough, I guess it really depends on the experiences each individual has with him. He was good enough to me for my 1st pregnancy.

Hi Sleepwalker, yes Dr Ang still have his package. I just signed the package with him last week.

I did post my personal experience with Dr Ang at the link provided by New Mommy (gwerty08).

I lived in Sembawang too. Is it better to sign up with clinics like Dr Ang or to visit hospitals like KKH for pregnancy check up?

This is my first child and I am 6 weeks pregnant. Havent done any scan or anything yet.

Appointment with Woodlands polyclinic in 2 weeks.

Hi All Mummies,
both me and hubby have been ttc for half a year but still no news. Does he help to do check up? How should i approach him? How early must i make appointment with him? Sorry am really new to this thread.

Bluegal
I actually would not recommend Dr Ang for TTC. He specialises more in pregnancy and delivery. His clinic is always packed and checks tends to be rushed which i feel is not conducive to couples seeking ttc advice. Both my kids are delivered by him, but for ttc, i saw Dr LC Foong at Gleneagles. There's a thread on Dr Foong. However Dr Foong is more expensive but he's good.

Hi ixwong,
Thanks for your fast response. Roughly how much does he charge for the checkup? I have friend with Christopher Chen? Dr LC Foong or Dr Christopher Chen is better?

Hi can i know if for normal visit, normally how much is the charges?

and what is the packages like? can we choose hospital? i think im 5 weeks pregnant.

i delivered my baby 9 weeks ago. i switch from another gynae to him, i guess those gynae are abt the same if they are busy, will not offer much info unless u ask. i don mind he rush because i dont like long waiting.

i find him quite experience, he say i am going to have a smooth delievry the day before i deliver. after he burst my water bag for me, he predicted that i'll deliver in 2-3 hrs time, and i really did. throughout the whole process, i find him very calm and stitching was ok too.

Hi, I am selecting gynae and is 16 weeks now. Wonder if anyone can tell me the cost / fees for Dr. Ang. Also does he deliver at Mt. Alvernia?

Thanks

i went saw dr ang yesterday ..
he told me he also deliver at mt e cause his price is for mt e and tmc ..

I was wondering to stay with dr ang and deliver at tmc good or find a snr consultant at kkh and deliver there .. more my brother gives me advice more confused i am
sad.gif

bluegal erm i went to him a mth before i got pergnant for a checkup and erm he gave me some folic acid and advice then i dunno conincidentally i got pregnant lor about a month later after i saw him ...

i just delivered my baby just 9 days ago...
i am staying in sembawang so i find it convenient to see dr ang.. and i delivered at tmc...
so far i found him okie...

I had my 2 delivery with him. he is very experienced Dr. but I just felt he controlled my delivery date in his convenience.

I usually have my routine check on Sat. when approaching the delivery date, he asked me to go to see him on one weekday. I went there and he checked if my cervix dilated, right after I arrived home, I had contraction and then rushed to TMC and delivered. this happened in my two delivery. Every time when I gave birth, there were about 6-7 mummy delivering there under him and he had to rush one another. In the end I was told by nurse not to push as Dr was still busy with other mummies.

Any mummies with same experience with him?

I think even for other Drs, right back to my aunty's time (15 years ago), she was also told not to push as the dr is not here yet.

For me, he was around even before the baby crowned/ I started any pushing. I think it all depends on how popular the birthday of our babies are!

how come oscar scan is stated on the list of his package, but when i call up the nurse says its not. Anything dat are bold are not included.

I'm also under Dr Ang. Just enter my 3rd trimester. However, I just realised that it is a must to take calcium supplement. Dr Ang didnt mentioned anything abouot this so I wasn't aware. I did not even take for my first pregnancy as well... Do you all take calcium supplement? Will this affect my baby?

it is a must? i din take for both my preg...but i make sure i drink lotsa milk...need to ensure we have enuf calcium to supply to our bbies' develping bones...mayb he see u dun need, so din mention? but u can ask him abt it...i did hear dat if calcium too much will also b passed out / not good for health.

bbs r like parasites so they will absorb sufficient calcium fr mummies 4 their growth one..but means dat mummies' bones may suffer if really very lackin in calcium..but most normal women shld b lackin according to dat anlene advert which says dat asian women often only take 50% of the calcium they need daily...ya so we muz drink more milk even when not preg hee...

hi ladies
happy.gif
congrats to those goign to becoma a mommy
happy.gif

choosing a suitable gynea for "yourself" is very important cos u are the one facing him when the crucial moments comes...though alot of mommies would probably say...."just get my bb out plssss" ehheheh

DR ang delivered my 2nd boy in august 09.it was a c sec , compared to the 1st c sec....hsi skills is much better..."why"???? cos aftermath of it was almost painless! i can walk the first day....can pee the next day n no need pain killers from 2nd day onwards n even chk out 1 day earlier= savings to me
happy.gif

consultation days~think he know sthere's a long Q always outside so he tries to accomodate all of us.as in speed up his consultation time.

if 1st time mommy...with a lot of enquires n uncertainty of urself....not advisable to see him la.u need to pay more for these type of services heheheh..

those popular docs.....may nt be as professional as him ( due to hi s confidence when in the threatre.) so far his deciscion making is good.as well as the stitching part according to few friends whom also deivered by him.

nurses:yup agreed they can be quite expressionless but well........think they also hv so many of us to handle each day.....

dr ang highest record to deliver in a day think 20+ bah.....heard from him :p

and one thing for sure he's straight forward.btu due to his ever expanding patients n tiny clinic.......he tends to forget.....we as patients also must try to call n chk with the nurses again bah.....cos unlike others...they probs will send sms or call to remind u of the appts.

hi plp.

would like to check regarding abt tcm services? are the nurses good and nice? i have heard some bad remarks and cant find any thread on tcm services.

I;m also with Dr Ang since 1st pregnancy. Now i'm 36 weeks into my 2nd pregnancy. I think he's ok. However, I'm now extremely irritated by certain things he does without asking me first.

During my first pregnancy, i recalled him doing a check with his finger in the vagina and next thing he tell me is that i can check into the hospital at 10pm. I was about 37 weeks than. True enough, at night i started to have contractions. I suspect he did a membrane swap but i didn't ask him as i was too busy with being a new mother.

Yesterday, (i'm 36 weeks now), I went for a check up. I tot he's doing a routine check but yesterday night i started spotting. Called him. He say so long no cramp it's ok. But I'm now very irritated and wonder if he did the same thing again - to get the labour going. I dun want my baby to be out so early!! I want the baby be out when she wants to so long as it's not late pregnancy and no risk involve. At least he should have asked me. Anyway, now i could be jumping into conclusion. I'm still waiting for him to call me back to see if it's really the case.

In anyway, i think need to let dr ang knows what exactly you want instead of same treatment for everyone.

what's a membrane swap? And 36 weeks is a bit early lei to "induce" the preg...won't it be risky if he tried to get the bb out in week 36? i always tot 37 weeks onwards then is considered full term.
