(2010/07) July 2010 MTB

Ann.. Me too.. 11am.. haha.. I'm suppose to be on waiting list.. Guess I'll see you there then..

I'm thinking of going to metro to shop for bras without underwire during the wait... my bras (all with underwire) are killing me...

The charity thing.. if we really doing it then I guess we'll be e only ones printing maternity T-shirts...

I think those Baby megastore is cheaper. We have to checkout in the papers for the promotion. Heard there's 1 popular store somewhere in Ubi area.

Anyone has any idea on the exact location?

bbbliss

babykingdom and babyhypermart/store is v near to ubi driving centre... if u know where it is... ans it is not always cheaper... u may wanna compare prices from various sources...

Jo_lyn, my friend gave me a list from Takashimaya.. the list is LONG man

Jellypurin.. thanks for the advice... things you commented can buy before we know e sex right.. but then.. dun think I hv e energy at all to shop in 1st trimester.

oh.. any mothers here used ikea stuff for babies before?? are they ok to use or I better kill tat idea??

Jellypurin

Thanks for your advise. We must really do our homework before we commit to buy anything. [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif]

buying bb stuff:

my mum's advise is to wait after de 1st trimester n if best, when u know if it's a bb boy or girl den u can colour-code ur items.. as 4 big ticket items, pls to look ard 1st n grab dem during bb fairs, that's when u get de best deals w freebies..

yaolan: i m personalli agst it and would advise all mtbs nt to get it unless ur bb is really hard to handle.. cos i ever saw a lady shaking her bb so violentli in the public like a manual yaolan juz 2 coax bb to sleep... do u like to look like a manual yaolan??

noknok

maybe it's just me... i bought v little b4 i knew bb's gender, after that, i was irrational... esp when u r expecting a ger [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif] but yes, there are things u can buy now w/o knowing the gender so can keep colour selection to neutral [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif]

bbbliss

yes, esp for me now with #2... my current investment is my breastpump and a buggie for my #1... and i am not getting anything else except for clothes, after i know the gender of bb [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif]

Talking abt gender.. Tea lady in office suspects that I'm pregnant and asked me if I was craving for salty or sweet stuff... then she said... salty stuff most prob it's a boy, sweet stuff most prob it's a girl.. how true is this?? or any other saying about bb gender?? I know.. none of this are medically proven... jus for the sake of it since we still dunno the gender of our bb..

star_xln

true... i was also against yaolan... but i realise that when u hv ur parents/ILs who prefer yaolan and they eventually become your bb's primary caregiver, i had no choice but to give in...my yao lan experience was short lived as my bb used it for only 3mths and the springs could not take her weight :p

Noknok: i always crave for sweet stuff. Lets see if mine will be a gal.

I also hear saying of if you are pretty during ur pregnancy, its a boy. If you turn ugly den its a gal. Hahhaha.. Wonder how true...

Hi mummies, I am selling off a brand new still in packaging nursing cover I got as a gift for $20. Please pm me if interested. Thanks.[IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/messages/2495852/3361226.jpg]

Hey Jo_Lyn

I heard it the other way round lei... pretty means girl.. ugly means boy. Haha!!

Hey Noknok.

I am also on waiting list lei. Cause it is suppose to be scanning today but I am going back on Saturday for injection so might as well do everything on Saturday instead of visiting the clinic 3 times a week.

Think need to wait 2 to 3 hrs. Nevermind .. can go lunch.. shopping too.. Hubby say will buy slippers for me cos he felt mine very lousy. Don't wan me to slip and fall.

Hey ladies.. any recommendation for slippers?

Posted more second-hand maternity clothes for u to consider!!!

Selling them cheap - Tops at $3 - $6, Bottoms at $6 to $8, Dresses at $8 -$10. Many of them r still in rather gd condition. If u r interested, come for viewing personally at my pl which is a stone's throw from Toa Payoh MRT station.

Noknok, i heard from my frens that during the scanning of the bb, if the sac is longish in shape, its a boy, and if the sac is round, its a girl..not sure how true..lol

Hahaha.. I guess there are many type of hearsay thing. We just wait and see. But the OSCAR scan able to tell us the gender of baby? My friend was telling me th gynae may not tell us. Those mummies who went thru OSCAR scan, care to share?

Yup I also heard if become pretty is boy, uglier is girl because the girl will steal away your beauty!

Hehe…

I usually have very random cravings. I would suddenly crave for spicy food, then KFC, Ba Kwa and today I just feel like eating Ba Zhang!

But I don’t really like sweet food, not even before pregnancy.

One thing is I suddenly hated eating prawns (especially steamed/boiled prawns) and I feel like puking whenever I see one.

Last time I really love prawns.

Jo Lyn,

I am from the april MTB thread just bouncing around and saw ur question. I got to know my bb's gender during the Oscar scan but doc said its 80% accurate at that time. The detailed scan double cfmed what he saw during the Oscar scan [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif]

So I think it depends on the corporation of your bb and the scan machine whether u can see the gender or not [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif] Hope this answer ur question.

Sweetkiss,

I dont think its accurate i have become super ugly with lots of acne and stuff but I am having a boy [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif] The sour, spicy theory for me is quite accurate I dont take spicy stuff pre pregnancy but I am eating lots now [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif]

Jo lyn,

the last time i went for the oscar test, the sonographer told me the baby looks like its gonna be a boy... but she didn't wanna commit...in the end, baby was really a boy... i went when i was 12 weeks preggie..think its easier for them to detect boys early as the birdie will be sticking out

Ann - see if we'll bump into each other.. wah.. u go there so often ah?? what kind of slippers are you looking for?? flip flops?? I should be wearing black 'fluffy' pants on sat.

suntan - haha.. next time u scan observe then tell me if it's true in e future.. :p

how's the OSCAR scan done?? is it just like normal scan or they do something else??

I had been craving for salty and spicy food.. nothing sweet appeals to me.. not even chocolate that I loved.. lets see if I hv a boy.. hee

My friend got prettier during her pregnancy but she got a girl leh.. duno which is true..

Hey Thanks BB Dust!!

Anyway no matter boy or gal, just hope they are healthy can already. Nothing is worth seeing them cuddling in ur arms i guess. [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif]

**But still wondering the gender everyday.** Hahaha...

Jo Lyn,

keke yes u are right does not matter the gender so long as bb is healthy [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif] tell ur bb to open his/her legs wide wide for u to see before the oscar scan good luck [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif]

noknok,

the scans are much clearer than the ones from the gynae...

basicically they're scanning the thickness of some fluid at the back of the neck... the thickness should be less than 2mm to rule out downs...anything more than tat they'll encourage you to go for further tests

Hey Noknok.

I go there twice a week for my injection. Can't produce hormone is like that one.

Don't know what slippers to look for. Everyone say the slippers i wear very dangerous.. scared i will fall.. so ask me buy better ones. I am looking at open toe kind. Any brand to recommend?

Re: Breastpump

Anyone has any good recommendation on this? I intend to invest a good one, my previous one was Single-Medela Electric Pump.

Hi bb_Gen,

How long do you think you intend to BF?

For me, I had both Avent Manual and Medela double. They had been serving me well, when was BFing for 18months.

bbgen

my fav still medela... keke...some of my frens say avent gd too but can be easily spoilt...

ann

i wore birkies when i was preggers with #1... i am in love with OKAb, which is available in New Urban Male... v gd slippers... i order 5 pairs 2 weeks ago for my mom and aunts because they tried my slpper and said it is v comfy [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif]

hello all MTBs,

I'm new here and would like to be added to the growing list [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif]

I have a 2yo and now 7wks preg. I goes to Dr Woo @ Tiong Bahru and will definitely go back to TMC for delivery.

I'm always so tired and restless which is unlike my 1st pregnancy and can't do much housework at the end of the workday [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/sad.gif]

ecym, thks for adding me [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif]

Any idea where in BKK is gd for maternity wear and baby stuffs shopping?

vio

me too. end of work day i am really v tired... i wanna ply w my #1 bt i hv no energy [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/sad.gif]

Hi Jo_Lyn.

Gynae say normally till first trimester is over. That is when your placenta is ready to take over the production of progesterone. Then BB no need to rely on us to produce it for them.

thanks Vio for the idea, going to BKK next month, will surely look out for maternity wear in BKK...

Hi Jellypurin.

I also thought of birkies. But somehow it makes my feet look funny.. dunno is it because i am not use to that kind of shoe design.

Pet & Jellypurin,

I hope to bf as far as I can cos now I still have bm but my girl doesn't want. I prefer Medela double but not too ex..

Ann, I wld go for birkies, they're nice to wear... but too bad cannot wear for work.. I intend to get myself another pair this mth.. [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif]

ecym, you might like to check out the nursing bra in BKK too, hopefully it's cheaper there. I bought S$30+ per piece here 2 yrs back.

Jellypurin, yah no energy.... make my gal sleep = i sleep 1st. How old is your #1?

hi vio,

same same as me [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif] elder one of 2 yr old +

Hi,

Remember seeing some posts where some mommies were discussing about having dreams at night. Saw this article and tot its good to share [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif]

You have vivid or weird dreams.

Probable cause: Lighter sleep patterns. "Pregnant women simply wake up more often, and that's one of the reasons they're more aware of their dreams," says Dr. Anwer. Anxiety and hormones can play a role as well.

Cure: "It isn't a bad idea to learn relaxation and breathing techniques -- either through meditation or yoga," suggests Lewis Kline, M.D., director of the Sleep Center at Western Pennsylvania Hospital, in Pittsburgh. Many moms use whatever helps them relax. For Anne Depue of Seattle, a lavender-scented bag over her eyes could lull her back into slumber.

Hi bb_Gen.

Ok.. will go and see see this Sat. Thanks.

Hey ladies.

Any advice on cord blood banking? Cannot decide to do it or not and with which bank.

ann

r u thinking of banking privately? i bank publicly and am happy that if one day my bb's cord blood can be used for another child and for research.

in reality, there is only 25-30% chance that your child will use his/her cord blood for any disease. so for me, i don't have an issue banking publicly and yes, i dun hv 2 pay the private cord banks.

Hey Jellypurin.

Can you tell me more about banking publicly? If bank publicly, does it mean that if the cord blood is used for another child, my child would not be able to use it?

ann

yup, ur child cannot use it exculsively. i know it sounds silly but public cord blood banking is all about charity...but again, it is parents personal choice.

i guess this is a topic that can argue till the cows come home. very personal and individual. i read up, and read up and read up before making this decision with my hb.

i have also chosen to donate my elder child's cord blood namely to benefit anyone in need, including my child although i have no privy rights to it as i have donated it. An important consideration for me at that point was the units of cord blood that is being collected. As i understand the units collected is actually hardly enough for the needs of my child, should he need it later on in his life. We would still need to go to the public bank. From the internet,i know some countries have also not approved private banking of cord blook due to lack of research to substantiate that the quantity collected for one since being hardly enough, is of much benefit to have it privately 'banked'.

Having said that, i do know of many singapore gynaes supporting the private cord blood banking and does so for all their children.

But i choose to do my part, by donating. hoping it will benefit someone out there.

Hi Pillow and jellypurin.

That's why I am wondering should I donate the child's cord blood. I think I read somewhere about no point banking them privately. But I just can't remember the reason why.
