My two months old is having block nose and phlegm whenever she cough. Making it difficult for her to drink milk and even sleep... Went to polyclinic and the doctor told me that it's normal?? Any mummy can tell me ways to cure phlegm and block nose?

Raise her pillow a bit higher or few layers of cloth diaper below her head to elevate for easier breathing..

my boy is 2 months too and he has this problem when he was 6 weeks. you can try rubbing vick on her foot and let her wear socks yhis can ease her block nose.. as for phlegm I just let him drnk the green syrup given by doctor

Can let me know if ur bb is feeling better having taking the medication? Especially for the phlegm.. cos my bb also seems to have a lot of phlegm. Elders said take pearl powder will do but I'm still hesitating to give or to see a pd for this

My bb is better today after medication. I took pearl powder too as my father in law was told that it's good. But my bb spit it out. Heard from my grandmother that pearl powder cannot be taken on bb that's too young... See doctor btr

How long does the green syrup take for your son to completely recover?

Actually the green syrup for my baby taken from polyclinic don't seem to work. Somehow she choke on her phlegm and almost breathless. So I brought her to specialist... And it seem a lot better.

pls consider switching your formulae or diluting. Milk causes phlegm. If this goes on your bb will risk having bronchitis (pls google). Try tcm or tuina

I would suggest taking your baby to the PD..

My girl had this phlegm problem for quite some time but that PD told us not good to just let it be.. My girl duno how to cough out and she always gagged on it.. The PD could hear slight whizzing deep in her lungs.. That means it could very quickly escalate into bronchitis.. She then told us to use nebulizer for my girl.. Recovered within a week.. All phlegm totally gone..

Maybe u can bring your bb to PD and check.. Ask if nebuliser is an option? Nebbing also opens up the airway, making it easier to breathe..

nebuliser is usually a last resort when the phlegm is too thick in the lungs, it is definitely effective. However the medication will also weaken the lungs. After nebuliser, singulair (http://www.circleofmoms.com/moms-of-children-with-asthma/kids-on-singulair-243484 ) are often prescribed. My son airway was very sensitive after using the nebuliser. It took months for him to recover. A whiff of food will send him coughing. Lung supplement made him gorge food like monster, he will scream once I remove food, I stopped lung supplement and switched to tcm as I realised this phlegm problem is going to be recurrent. It is only when I tried out tuina that I realised that it improves his blood circulation and his health went uphill.

Please note that western med only suppress ailments. The medication that works on our child may not mean that its good for their body, this is why their hands and feets are always cold or perspiring a lot while taking western medication . It is worth considering to improve their blood circulation first instead of piling them medication.

Hi teatreesg,
What didn't work for your kids may work for others.. Every kid reacts differently.. The dosage/meds prescribed was probably different too..

We were very glad we took the PD's advise to neb her as it eased her discomfort pretty quickly.. My girl benefited from the nebuliser and had no side effects right after she stopped it.. Until now, her lungs and phlegm problem has never came back again..

As a mom, I would prefer to know all my options and then decide based on professional opinion, be it western med or tcm or both..

No offense intended.. Just my personal opinion..

Hi rykgirl. How old was ur daughter? Could hear wheezing sound whenever my son sleep.. guess it's really too much phlegm. . Will be bringing him to the pd next week for his vaccination.. perhaps will check on the phlegm issue as well

My daughter had similar symptoms. Block nose and often chokes during feeding. Also, notice that she arches her back a lot when crying and looks like she trying to catch her breath. At one month old, I learned that it was actually reflux. Try to keep your baby upright during feeding, and don't lie flat immediately. At 2.5 mths, I see some slight improvements but PD say that baby will be like this on and off but will eventually outgrow it. Good luck.

Hi stinzy,
My girl was abt 18mths then.. She just started cc abt 1month prior to the beginning of her phlegm problem..

To be honest, we didnt realize anything was off until the PD listened and told us abt it.. We did not know anything abt whizzing or wad it could lead to.. She just sounded like prolonged coughing.. I've always been hesitant to use medicine and i wanted to let her heal naturally.. But PD strongly suggest we give nebbing a try first since the whizzing sounded quite deep.. We're very thankful to that PD till today.. :)

She is almost 5 now and thank goodness, no relapse.. Sure she has coughs and flus time to time but at least she know how to purge out now..

I suggest asking ur PD abt nebbing if u're at wits end and see what he/she says.. Maybe can ask for lower dosage to start off first..

I've been through that too and i do have similar concern about having the kids always on medication...my kids (3 and 5) are always falling sick until I started using a 100% therapeutic essential oil and it has indeed improve their immunity and health after 8 months of usage.

PM me if you want to find out more, happy to share.
